BDAW Chapter 9

Start of a Slow Life

I can’t stay depressed forever.
I get out of the hollow of the big tree and make a fist in front of my chest.

“Okay. I have to cheer up!”

I can’t go back to the village, let alone the kingdom.
I don’t know what will happen if I go to the demon country.

I have nowhere to go, so I will live in this forest for a while.

If that’s the case, I have to secure food, clothing, and shelter.

For the time being, ‘clothing’ is good.
I have these plain villager clothes that I got in the village.

“Come to think of it, I left my trench coat behind. . .”

Well, it can’t be helped.
I’ve already graduated from the slutty style.

Next is ‘food’.
There is no problem with this as well.
I can eat nuts and river fish.

But I need to somehow procure salt.
I wish I could get some rock salt somewhere. . .

Lastly, “residence’.
This is the pressing need.
. . . .Well, what to do?

“Ah, that’s right. I thought of something good!”

When I have an idea, I do it immediately.
In order to secure a residence, I started to take action.

“Okay! I wonder if it’s like this!”

I take a step back and look at my new home.

Yes.
I think it’s pretty good!

I decided to extend the hollow of the big tree where I stayed overnight last night.

I hollowed the inside of the tree with my claws.
I made a space of about 8 tatami mats.
Still, from this big tree, it’s nothing more than a small hole.

But these claws of mine are convenient.
Not only trees, even rocks can be scraped crisply.

Good.
Let’s name this ‘Dragon Claw’.

In addition to the doorway, I also made a window hole in the house.
The lighting is perfect with this.

Each doorway and window hole is covered with branches and leaves woven together.
To be honest, there is still a little bit of a gap, but the wind doesn’t blow much in this forest to begin with, so the draft doesn’t come in.

The result is a very comfortable space.

A fence was put up around the house.
It’s a relief to have a fence.
Is this a small-citizen feeling?

“Okay. It’s starting to take shape. I’ll do my best!”

I put my energy into it and roll my shoulders.
Now let’s get back to work!

A few days passed.
Since then, I have made various tools for daily life.

Tableware and water buckets cut out of wood.
I also made a wooden table and chairs.

There is even a bed.
A cot made with dead grass and straw on a base of mulch and a self-made bamboo mat on top of it.
It took a long time to weave the bamboo mats, but thanks to the tie and effort put into making them, I was able to sleep comfortably.

“. . . Fufufufu. I wonder if I should take a bath today.”

Yes, a bath.
It’s a bath.

I hollowed out a rock with my dragon claws and made a bathtub.

This bathtub is made of rock and is highly fire resistant.
After filling it with water and blowing a moderate flame on it, it quickly transforms into a comfortable bath.

I can also do the wash with the remaining hot water.
Well, I only have one piece of clothing, so while I’m drying it, I’m wearing clothes made of long, thin leaves knitted with vines.
I don’t know if I should say it myself, but I look like a wild person. . .
An unidentified creature.

“I wonder if I should have a meal~”

After taking a bath.
Dressed as a wildling, I’m humming and in a good mood.

Stone plates heated in a rock furnace sizzle.
My appetite is stimulated by the soft fragrance.
The thing making the noise is the rainbow trout (?) grilled with herbs.

Of course, this stone plate is also handmade.
I can use it instead of a frying pan, which is convenient.
Since making this, the range of dishes has expanded considerably.

After thoroughly heating both sides, transfer the baked rainbow trout-like fish to a plate.

“Well then, let’s eat!”

Relax with chopsticks and take a bite.
A moderate amount of saltiness and a refreshing scent of herbs passes through my nose.

“Hmm! It’s good!”

Oh yeah.
I also got salt well.
Rock salt was collected in the small cave near the stream.

. . . . After all, salt is good.
If I scratch the crunchy rock salt with my claws and sprinkle the salt, the bland food will suddenly become delicious.

In fact, other than salt, I also found nuts that tasted like herbs, pepper, and mustard.
The seasonings are also quite complete.

“. . . Thank you for the meal! Ah, I’m full!”

I collapse onto the bed with a thud.
I want to sleep with a full stomach.

“Whew. I was worried at first, but it’s unexpectedly manageable.”

My eyelids fell down quickly.
I think I’ll clean up after the meal tomorrow.

“. . . .Good night~. . . .”

I leave myself to a pleasant sleep.

In this way, another relaxing day passed.

Asahi is thriving in the forest.

I hope you enjoyed this chapter and thank you for reading!
