BDAW ss1 Corona

Real Witch

Corona’s POV*

“. . . Well then, Chief. I’m going.”
“Hmm. Don’t be rude to the knights. Be careful.”

The villagers were sent to the fortified city.
It’s to tell them about that child.

I objected, but my father, who is the village chief, and everyone in the village decided on their own.

“Corona. Please fix your mood.”
“Hmm! I don’t know what you’re talking about!”
“. . . It can’t be helped, right? After all, she was the Black Witch, right?”
“That’s why I’m saying she’s not a witch!”

That black-haired, black-eyed girl with pure white wings.
Come to think of it, I just realized that I didn’t even hear her name.

“That girl is. . . she’s like my little sister. . .”

I don’t have any friends my age.
There was a famine right around the year I was born.

I heard that a lot of villagers lost their lives in the dangerous Demon Forest in search of food at that time.
Due to the long-lasting food shortage, not many new babies were born, and the rare babies eventually died.

In the end, the only child born around that time who managed to survive safely was me, the daughter of the village chief.

Thanks to that, it’s been 20 years since I was born.
Ever since I was a child, I have felt lonely.
It means that it was that child who appeared in such a place.

“When will the knights come to the village?”
“Well? It’s half a day one-way to the city, so maybe tomorrow of the day after tomorrow?”
“Well. Before that, do you want us to search for the whereabouts of the witch?”

Everyone in the village is noisy.
I glared at the villager who just said something unnecessary.

“Stop looking for her!”
“. . . That’s right. The witch flew away to the Demon Forest.”
“That forest is no good. There are too many terrifying beasts and magical beasts.”
“Oh, it’s just that Corona is worried about me.”

Nobody is worried about you.
In my heart, I spit poison.

“Come on, leave the witch to the knights, and we’ll work as usual.”

At the urging of my father, everyone goes back to work.

“. . . Hmph!”

After I snorted, I returned to farm work.

Today at dawn.

Under the fine weather, I silently continued farm work today.
The knights will come to the village as early as today.

Sweat dripped from my forehead, dripping down my cheeks and down my chin.

“Ah, I don’t want to do it. . .”

All I remember is her.

I regret that we were not able to talk slowly until the end.

Farm work was easy during that time.
Or rather, I was just stepping back and giving instructions.

Even though that girl complained about it, but in the end she obediently did it.

“. . .After all, such a lame person can’t be a witch. . .”

I think witches are more terrifying beings.
I’m sure it’s so scary that if you see it, you’ll be eaten.

As I continued to work, a shadow suddenly covered my head.
I wipe the sweat off my forehead and look up at the sky.

“. . . . . .Eh?”

In the sky that I looked up at. . .

-There was a witch.

A long black dress with black hair and black eyes.
Unlike that girl who only grew her hair down to her shoulders, her glossy black hair was long enough to reach her waist.

“. . . ah. . . ah. . .”

While opening my mouth involuntarily, I realized that what I had just thought was wrong.

Witches aren’t just scary, they’re such bewitching and beautiful beings. . .

“. . . You there. In this village, there’s a girl with black hair and black eyes, right?”

As I was fascinated by it, the witch called out to me.
A beautiful voice echoes transparently.

“. . . ah. . . . ah. . . the witch of the demon country. . .”

The eyes of the witch looking at me narrowed.

“. . . It’s a demon country, it’s a witch. As usual, you say whatever you want.”

She let out a small sigh as I stiffened with my face raised.

“Phew. . . I’m Queen Inedit of the ‘Liberated Nation Oine’. . . Village girl, bring the black-haired girl here.

My head is finally starting to work.
This witch is looking for her.

“. . .Ah, that child. . . what are you going to do. . .!”
“. . . I won’t do anything bad.”

I can’t believe it.
After all, the opponent is the real witch.

I frantically thought about how to get out of this place.
Then–

“. . .Oh?”

The witch shifted her gaze into the distance.
I also turned my face to the sky over there.

“Oh, that’s. . .!?”

The direction of the fortified city.
At the end of the sky, which is still a little far away, I could see the figures of dragon knights flying in formation.
