Buying slaves generally serves two purposes: either for warming the bed or for doing work. This little female zerg is only thirteen years old, too weak to lift or carry anything, and smells worse than a garbage dump. Faeus thought Xu Cenfeng bought him back purely to annoy him.
Xu Cenfeng hadn’t expected Faeus to say that and was momentarily stunned. Although he did want Faeus to bear zerg eggs, he wasn’t crazy enough to go to such extremes. Smiling, he shook his head:
“You’ve misunderstood.”
After speaking, Xu Cenfeng stepped forward to rescue the zerg cub from Faeus’ hands. He then straightened the zerg cub’s collar, which had been pulled out of shape, only to find that the cub’s clothes were so tattered that a light tug would tear a hole.
Faeus watched Xu Cenfeng touch the smelly, skinny monkey, his brow furrowing and his voice low and warning: “Xu Cenfeng—”
If Xu Cenfeng touched that smelly, skinny monkey, he should never think of touching him in the future.
Xu Cenfeng immediately understood what Faeus meant and softly reassured him, “It’s okay, just clean him up.”
However, since the zerg cub was already thirteen, and there was a difference between males and females, Xu Cenfeng felt it was inappropriate to handle it personally. He noticed the gardener working outside in the flowerbed, so he opened the window and called him in, instructing him to take the zerg cub to the shower room for a bath.
Faeus’ face was as dark as it could get. If he had to describe his current feeling, it would be like a pot of porridge ruined by a single rat shit; he even felt that the air he was breathing was polluted.
Xu Cenfeng went to the kitchen to wash his hands, and when he came back out, he saw Faeus lying on the sofa in a foul mood. Faeus seemed so bored that he was playing with a black energy gun, half-closing one eye and practicing his aim on the ceiling.
Seeing the situation, Xu Cenfeng walked up and gently pressed down on the gun in Faeus’ hand, aiming it towards the ground to prevent any accidental discharge. “Don’t play with guns at home.”
Faeus’ eyelid twitched uncontrollably when Xu Cenfeng touched his hand. “Hand.”
He was very obsessive about cleanliness.
Xu Cenfeng smiled. “I washed them already.”
Faeus became even more displeased upon hearing this. He casually tossed the gun aside and sat up from the sofa, glaring intensely at Xu Cenfeng. Through gritted teeth and in a low voice, he demanded, “Get rid of that little trash for me right now!”
Xu Cenfeng asked seriously, “And bring back a prettier one?”
Faeus’ voice was deep and ominous, “You dare!”
Xu Cenfeng replied casually, “So it’s still this one then.”
After speaking, he suddenly noticed the identification and servitude documents of the female zerg cub on the coffee table next to him. He picked them up and glanced through, finding the name field written as “Agu”. “Is this zerg cub named Agu? Why is there no surname?”
Faeus sneered disdainfully at his words and laughed, then reclined back on the sofa again. “He’s a little criminal slave who roamed the seas. How could he possibly have a surname?”
Xu Cenfeng was puzzled. “He’s so young, what crime could he have committed?”
Perhaps due to the weakened state after being marked, Faeus had appeared consistently lethargic these past few days, preferring to lie down rather than sit up. He rested one hand behind his head, pondering how Xu Cenfeng could be so oblivious to this. “Lagona Deep Sea belongs to the Empire’s jurisdiction, where many rare endangered species reside. Only military-certified vessels are allowed to fish there. Some poor folk venture out in unauthorized boats to hunt illegally, then sell their catch on the black market. That slave is a member of one such poaching group.”
He said “member” but it was highly probable that the slave was a stray cub adopted by the poaching group, tasked with menial chores aboard the ship. Unfortunately, due to his lowly status, there was no one to clear his name of any wrongdoing.
Xu Cenfeng heard the words but remained silent. He lowered his head, flipping through the sin contract in his hand. After a moment, he suddenly spoke up, “Have you noticed how similar that cub’s eyes are to yours?”
Both are green.
Such eye color is not common in Hossburgh; it usually only appears among royalty. Just like how the royal family in the West often has silver hair and red eyes, and the royal family in the North often has red hair and green eyes, it has become a symbol of status.
Agu is just a slave, yet he possesses a pair of green eyes. Wouldn’t Faeus find that strange?
Certainly, Faeus found it strange. However, there were many fallen royal families in Hossburgh, and nobles often sought romantic liaisons. It was not unlikely that some illegitimate children of these fallen families had ended up in the slums. Faeus replied nonchalantly, “Perhaps he has royal blood in his ancestry. There are many fallen nobles with green eyes in the slums.”
Faeus had no awareness that the slave named “Agu” could very well be his lost younger cousin.
In a previous life, General Wesley had been battling outside, and his youngest son, Uguz, barely one year old, was taken away by an enemy commander. For over a decade, there had been no news, and even General Wesley believed the cub had met an unfortunate fate. Moreover, Faeus himself had likely long forgotten about his younger cousin.
Xu Cenfeng wanted to hint at it, but he couldn’t explain how he knew about this matter. Therefore, he decided to strategize for the long term and planned to keep the zerg cub around for now.
The gardener responsible for bathing Agu took a full two hours to clean him up thoroughly. Due to the lack of suitable clothes, they could only find a loose-fitting shirt and an extra pair of pants. They improvised a belt using a piece of rope to secure the pants around his waist.
When Agu was dragged out of the bathroom by the gardener, Xu Cenfeng couldn’t help but feel like he was witnessing a thin, straw-like figure being hauled out. Agu was dressed in loose and ill-fitting clothes, which added a somewhat comical touch to the scene.
The gardener bowed to Faeus and Xu Cenfeng, saying, “Supreme Leader, Your Excellency, the zerg cub has been cleaned up.”
Perhaps due to a lack of etiquette training, Agu was somewhat untamed, continuously growling and attempting to bite the gardener. Unfortunately, the gardener was robust and strong, easily restraining Agu with one arm, causing him to struggle in mid-air.
Faeus, annoyed by the noise, cast a cold glance with his eerie green eyes and calmly released a wave of psychic pressure. Agu immediately quieted down.
Seeing this, Xu Cenfeng stepped forward, took Agu from the gardener, and placed him on the carpet. Agu attempted to bite Xu Cenfeng’s hand, but Xu Cenfeng agilely evaded and swiftly grabbed Agu by the nape like handling a cat.
Xu Cenfeng noticed that Agu’s sleeves were much too long and asked, “Don’t we have any clothes that fit him properly?”
The gardener looked troubled and replied, “Your Excellency, this zerg cub is too small. There aren’t any clothes in the villa that fit him. What he’s wearing now is already the smallest size available.”
Xu Cenfeng realized it was indeed unlikely for a leader’s residence to have clothes for a zerg cub. He reached into Faeus’ military uniform pocket and searched for a moment before finding a wallet inside. He took out several large denomination bills and handed them to the gardener, saying, “Please go to the shops outside and pick three suitable outfits for him. The remaining money can be considered extra pay for this month.”
The gardener was delighted beyond measure upon hearing this, thinking to himself that not only did this Excellency look handsome, but he also had such a good temperament. He eagerly accepted the money, bowing repeatedly. “No trouble at all, no trouble at all. I will follow your instructions immediately.”
After uttering those words, the gardener briskly left the residence and headed straight to the mall to buy clothes.
Faeus lay on the sofa, utterly dumbfounded. He watched Xu Cenfeng reach into his own pocket, take out the wallet, pay for the clothes, and smoothly close the wallet before tucking it back into his military uniform pocket. The entire sequence of actions was seamless and bewildering. “Xu Cenfeng—”
He couldn’t believe Xu Cenfeng had casually helped himself to his wallet, but buying clothes for that smelly little brat was crossing the line!
Xu Cenfeng had been seated cross-legged on the carpet, but upon hearing Faeus’ voice, he instinctively turned to look. Seeing Faeus staring at him with an expression of indifference, Xu Cenfeng leaned over and kissed Faeus on the cheek, speaking earnestly in a low voice, “From now on, I’ll earn money to support you.”
Faeus: “…”
Faeus was momentarily stunned, wondering why Xu Cenfeng’s thought process always seemed different from other zergs’. Where would one find a male zerg going out to earn money? He was the esteemed leader of the North, did he really need Xu Cenfeng to support him?
It seemed absurd.
Faeus instinctively wanted to scoff, but when he saw Xu Cenfeng smiling at him with gentle eyes, he found himself unable to speak the words. Finally, in frustration, he turned on the sofa, facing away from Xu Cenfeng, furrowing his brows, and muttered, “Who cares if you support me or not.”
Xu Cenfeng remained silent. He understood what Faeus truly valued.
Agu stood quietly nearby, perhaps finally realizing that these two zergs were not to be trifled with—one possessed formidable psychic strength, while the other was skilled in martial arts. Agu displayed a row of sharp teeth in a gesture resembling a small animal’s attempt at intimidation, trying to assert himself.
Xu Cenfeng always seemed to have a bit more patience with the zerg cub. He noticed Agu’s sleeves were disproportionately long, so he reached out and adjusted them to a proper length. He then rolled up the excessively long pant legs, making Agu look somewhat presentable.
Xu Cenfeng tentatively called out to him, “Agu?”
Agu’s ears twitched at the sound of his name, indicating that he recognized it.
Xu Cenfeng’s gaze softened. “From now on, you’ll live here.”
Agu bore numerous scars, likely from past abuse. In such extreme living conditions, it was inevitable to carry some thorns.
Xu Cenfeng realized Agu probably hadn’t eaten, so he got up, retrieved some food from the refrigerator, warmed it up, and placed it on a tray on the coffee table, gesturing for Agu to eat.
Agu was clearly ravenous, his eyes lighting up at the sight of the meat soup on the plate, and he instinctively reached out to eat with his hands. Xu Cenfeng swiftly intervened, pressing down on Agu’s hand and grabbing a spoon from the side, placing it into Agu’s hand. “Eat with this.”
Agu let out an angry growl.
Xu Cenfeng, however, didn’t back down, firmly placing the spoon in Agu’s hand while maintaining a gentle yet firm demeanor. “Eat with this.”
After his words, as if fearing Agu wouldn’t know how to use it, Xu Cenfeng scooped up a spoonful of food and fed it to him, demonstrating once. Only then did he hand the spoon back to Agu.
Reluctantly, Agu gripped the spoon and dug into the bowl of food, eating like a wild animal—fast and fierce. He remained alert, occasionally lifting his head to scan his surroundings, as if expecting other zergs to come and snatch his food away at any moment.
In the harsh cold climate of the North, despite the villa being heated, wearing just one layer of clothing still brought a chill. Seeing Agu’s empty and loose-fitting clothes, Xu Cenfeng took off his own coat and draped it over him. He then sat quietly to the side, hugging his knees, watching Agu eat.
Outside the window, the warm sun gently bathed everything in its glow, adding a golden hue even to Xu Cenfeng’s jade-like face. His dark eyes were gentle and clear, as if nothing could disturb him at that moment.
Faeus turned from the sofa at some point, his expression blank as he observed the scene, raising an eyebrow. “This female cub isn’t worth anything. Why are you treating him so well?”
Xu Cenfeng glanced at him, puzzled. “Isn’t the North supposed to value females? How can a female cub not be worth anything?”
Faeus chuckled dismissively. “Only powerful female cubs are valuable. Someone as weak as him is worthless.”
In the North, the survival environment for females may not necessarily be stronger than in the West. They admire the strong, so from childhood onwards, they experience countless brutal competitions and struggles. Even if males lack skill, they can still be like canaries, but females without skills can only be eliminated.
Xu Cenfeng shook his head slightly, disagreeing. “As long as they are my cubs, gender and value don’t matter.”
Faeus fell silent for a moment upon hearing this, then dryly remarked, “Hey, don’t think saying that will make me want to bear cubs for you.”
Xu Cenfeng heard this and was about to say something when suddenly they heard an urgent doorbell from outside, indicating a visitor. Faeus furrowed his brows and got up to open the door, only to find Deputy Leader Yenia standing there. “What brings you here?”
Yenia sounded urgent, “Leader, something bad has happened.”
Faeus frowned upon hearing this, then turned back inside. “Come in and tell me what happened.”
Yenia hurriedly followed inside. “Leader, you need to come with me to the Interstellar Hospital quickly. The Haite and Hill Families got into a big argument today, and they have armed guards with them. It’s about to turn into a fight!”
Faeus paused at Yenia’s words, his eyebrows slightly raised, feeling somewhat puzzled. “Isn’t that Haite guy completely infatuated with Hill, almost bankrupting himself to buy luxury goods for him? Why would they suddenly start fighting?”
Yenia hesitated for a moment, unsure whether to reveal the truth. “They…”
Faeus’ patience wore thin, his voice cold. “Speak!”
Yenia finally said, “Haite’s egg sac miscarried because… because of Hill’s whipping…”
After his words fell, the living room fell into complete silence, as such matters were considered highly absurd in the matriarchal North. When Faeus first came into power, he had enacted laws strictly prohibiting any male from whipping females, punishable by severe penalties.
But now, with Hill not only privately whipping females but also causing a miscarriage, it was evident that this situation would not be easily resolved.
Yenia sensed the complexity of the situation. “Now the Haite Family is demanding justice, but the Hills refuse to admit anything. Both sides nearly came to blows at the hospital.”
Faeus’ expression darkened instantly upon hearing this. He had long known that the Hills were not to be trifled with. Their usual maneuvering among military commanders was one thing, but now, to whip a female causing a miscarriage—it was beyond intolerable.
“Let’s go, let’s see what’s happening,” he commanded sharply.
Faeus finished speaking and walked over to the coffee table, picking up the gun that was placed on it to check the ammunition before tucking it into his waistband. Suddenly remembering something, he turned to Xu Cenfeng and instructed firmly, “I need to go out for a bit. Stay at home.”
Yenia, upon hearing this, noticed there was another zerg in the living room… No, to be precise, there were two: one male and one cub.
The male zerg looked somewhat familiar, resembling the one Faeus had defeated on the arena floor that day.
Xu Cenfeng glanced over when Yenia entered, his gaze fixed on the gray-haired green-eyed female. His thoughts were unclear until he looked back, prompting him to withdraw his gaze from the carpet and rise directly towards Faeus. Unexpectedly, he said, “Leader, I want to go with you.”
Upon hearing this, Faeus paused at his words, looking at him with ambiguous meaning, a smile playing at his lips. “I assure you, it’s going to be quite bloody. Are you sure you want to come?”
Xu Cenfeng nodded. “Sure.”
He had heard in his previous life that this was how Faeus had crippled Hill with a single shot. He wanted to see if it was true.
