Faeus, for some reason unknown to him, did not refuse Xu Cenfeng. Instead, he chose to bring him aboard the spacecraft, with over a dozen warships trailing behind, heading towards the interstellar hospital.
Yenia sat in the co-pilot seat, unable to shake the scene he had just witnessed at Faeus’ home from his mind: the slender young cub eating on the coffee table, while the handsome male zerg sat quietly beside. The living room, left slightly messy due to lack of tidying up, gained a touch of warmth and liveliness unexpectedly.
They were clan brothers, naturally familiar with each other’s personalities. The villa had always been empty, with Faeus living alone. Now, out of the blue, there was not only a male zerg but also a cub, making it look like a family of three. It felt strangely out of place.
Such a heartwarming scene seemed unfitting for Faeus’ home.
Yenia thought about this silently for a moment, then discreetly glanced back. He saw Faeus sitting in a relaxed posture, eyes closed as if lost in thought. The black military cap cast a shadow over his long narrow eyes, making his emotions even more inscrutable. His face lacked color, indicating some weakness.
The male zerg, perhaps sensing Faeus’ mood, reached out and pulled him into an embrace, gently removing his military cap and planting a light kiss on his forehead.
Faeus didn’t resist, and even returned the kiss with a slight smile.
These two zergs, hidden in the shadows, were intimate beside him as if no one else was present.
Yenia, witnessing this, felt a hint of astonishment in his eyes. Though he had no interest in matters of desire, he had experienced some passionate encounters in the past, enough to not be completely ignorant. Faeus’ current state of weakness clearly indicated he had been deeply marked by the male zerg.
But how could this be possible?!
Yenia was momentarily startled by his own thoughts. As if to confirm something, he turned to look at Faeus’ neck, attempting to discern any signs of changed zerg markings. Unexpectedly, he met a pair of ink-black eyes.
Xu Cenfeng had long noticed Yenia’s scrutiny. He raised his gaze to meet the green-eyed zerg with gray hair, his expression unreadable, like a tranquil cold pond. Unlike his usual gentleness, upon closer inspection, his demeanor carried sharp edges.
Xu Cenfeng silently observed Yenia, Faeus’ clan brother, the deputy leader of Hossburgh, the instigator of a mutiny in his past life…
The instigator.
While the outside world knew Yenia as Faeus’ right-hand man, none knew of Yenia’s ambitious nature, how in a previous life he had nearly usurped Faeus’ position as leader.
Xu Cenfeng didn’t necessarily follow along today just to watch the excitement. He simply didn’t trust Faeus and Yenia being alone together. This female zerg was deep-minded and skilled in deception; otherwise, in his past life, he wouldn’t have hidden his ambitions for so long without exposing his intentions.
Yenia suddenly met Xu Cenfeng’s gaze, feeling a sense of awkwardness as if caught peeking. He instinctively turned his head away, furrowing his brow slightly, thinking to himself that this male zerg might not be any less cunning than Hill.
Not long after, the spacecraft arrived at the interstellar hospital. Faeus and Xu Cenfeng disembarked together, leading a squad of soldiers straight upstairs. Upon reaching the hospital floors, they encountered two groups of military females in a standoff in the corridor. Doctors and nurses were scared, hiding around stair corners, afraid to approach.
Leading the charge for justice was Haite’s fellow brother, Ted. He brought his own escort squad and directly cornered Hill inside a hospital room, guns loaded and ready. He was furious, demanding, “If you’re smart, hand over that male zerg! Otherwise, even if I have to make a scene in front of the leader, I’ll get justice. Hill caused my elder brother to miscarry—I swear I’ll put a bullet in his belly!”
Hill’s cousin, Abidan, firmly blocked the hospital room door, refusing to let Ted enter. Despite his efforts to raise his voice and justify himself, his slightly retreating steps betrayed his underlying fear. “Ted, don’t think it’s only your brother who got hurt. When he transformed, he went berserk and injured Hill too. At most, it’s even now, just one less zerg egg. He can always conceive again!”
His words undoubtedly ignited the fury of Haite’s family members. Ted erupted in anger, cursing loudly, “What nonsense are you spouting? I’ll smash your belly right now and see how you’ll conceive zerg eggs in the future!”
He was about to shoot when suddenly a cold and commanding voice rang out beside him, “Stop all of you!”
Everyone froze at the command, subconsciously turning towards the sound. At the other end of the corridor, they saw a group of dark figures that had appeared unnoticed. Leading them was a female zerg with red hair and green eyes, their expression grim—it was none other than the supreme leader, Faeus.
Abidan’s pupils contracted as he saw Faeus, instantly becoming flustered. “Supreme Leader?!”
However, Ted seemed to see a savior and quickly lowered his gun, stepping forward to angrily complain to Faeus, “Supreme Leader, that male Hill dared to disobey your original orders and privately whipped a female zerg. Haite was carrying a zerg egg and he miscarried because of him!”
Abidan wanted to defend himself but was at a loss for words, sweating profusely. He awkwardly tried to explain, “Supreme Leader, it’s not as he says. Haite suddenly went berserk and entered a transformation state, so that’s why…”
Before he could finish his sentence, Faeus cast a glance that silenced him involuntarily.
Faeus asked calmly, devoid of emotion, “Where is Haite?”
Ted grimaced and pointed to one of the rooms, saying, “Supreme Leader, Haite is in there. He underwent surgery just yesterday.”
Upon hearing this, Faeus marched straight to the hospital room door with Yenia and Xu Cenfeng in tow. He narrowed his eyes coldly and without warning, kicked open the door with a loud bang that startled all the zergs present.
Xu Cenfeng observed as inside the room lay a weak-looking female, whose features differed from the rough ones typical of the northern regions, unexpectedly delicate and refined. This was likely Haite, who had miscarried due to the whipping. Clearly caught off guard by Faeus’ sudden intrusion, Haite struggled to sit up in bed, his voice filled with astonishment and confusion, “Leader…?”
Faeus remained silent, his expression unreadable as he stared at Haite. The sound of his black military boots echoed lightly on the tiled floor as he walked calmly to the bedside.
Xu Cenfeng had a sinking feeling that Faeus might be about to lose his temper, and his suspicion was confirmed the next moment. Faeus seized Haite by the neck and pressed him against the wall, delivering a fierce slap across his face.
“Smack—!”
The crisp sound echoed through the silent hospital room, startling Yenia.
Faeus gripped Haite by the neck, a strand of red hair slipping quietly from under his cap, partially obscuring his fierce eyes. Through gritted teeth, Faeus uttered each word with venom, “Are you an idiot?! Allowing a male zerg to ride roughshod over you? If you wanted to get whipped, why not go to Blackstone Prison?! Why disgrace yourself in Hossburgh?!”
It’s undeniable that Hill’s actions were despicable, but what Faeus hated most about Haite was his foolish weakness. Haite, an A-grade female zerg, was shamefully whipped into miscarriage by a male zerg with little strength—a situation that Faeus found utterly incomprehensible.
With Haite struggling to breathe under Faeus’ grip, he felt a mix of regret and shame. “Lea… Leader… I know I messed up…”
Faeus sneered mockingly at Hite’s words, his aura icy cold, perhaps from the snow he had encountered outside or the murderous intent rising from within. “Messed up? What good is knowing that you messed up? Can your cub revive? Can the shame you’ve endured be undone?!”
Yenia stood nearby, neither intervening nor discouraging. He seemed almost content to witness Faeus alienate his subordinate in this manner, even though the latter’s actions stemmed merely from his personality rather than malicious intent.
Xu Cenfeng, seeing the situation, took a step forward and proactively intercepted Faeus, whispering in his ear, “Supreme Leader, he just underwent surgery not long ago. Whatever the issue is, it can wait until he’s recovered.”
Faeus frowned at Xu Cenfeng’s words and reluctantly released his grip on Haite. He stared at the zerg on the bed, who was coughing incessantly, thinking that perhaps he had finally awakened from Hill’s deceptive allure, but the cost was undeniably heavy. With narrowed eyes, Faeus spoke coldly, “Take care of yourself!”
Yenia approached hesitantly and inquired, “Supreme Leader, what should we do with Hill?”
While the North held females in high regard, Hill’s status as the purest-blooded male zerg, coupled with his ambiguous connections with many military high-ups, made punishing him a tricky matter.
Upon hearing this, Faeus remembered there was still a major issue unresolved. He reached for his energy gun at his waist and walked out of Haite’s room directly to Hill’s location. Abidan, who was guarding the door, panicked upon seeing Faeus approaching. He stuttered nervously, “Sup… Supreme Leader…”
Faeus clearly had little patience left. He pressed the icy barrel of his gun against Abidan’s head, his voice chilling as it sent shivers down Abidan’s spine. In a cryptic praise, Faeus remarked, “Abidan, you truly are a good brother. Even willing to step forward and face a gun. Rest assured, I will ensure you receive a dignified burial.”
With that, Faeus made a slight motion with his fingertip, as if about to pull the trigger. Abidan, terrified, instantly bolted from the hospital room doorway, running faster than a rabbit.
Xu Cenfeng stood nearby and witnessed Faeus kicking open the door to the hospital room, followed by three intense gunshots echoing from inside. Soon after, Hill’s screams of agony rang out, akin to a pig being slaughtered.
“Ahhhhh!!!!!!”
It’s difficult to imagine a frail male zerg screaming so agonizingly. The other leaders, startled by the sound, thought Faeus had actually killed Hill. They rushed in together, only to find Hill writhing in pain on the ground, his lower body bleeding profusely, contorted in agony—
Faeus had indeed used his gun to cripple Hill’s lower half.
The scene caused all the female zergs present to involuntarily gasp in shock, feeling a chill run down their spines. They couldn’t help but feel a sympathetic pain in their lower bodies, while also being deeply astonished. After all, Hill was the male zerg with the highest purity of blood in the entire North. The fact that the Supreme Leader had decided to cripple him so decisively was beyond belief.
Faeus stood aside, feeling the heat of the gun barrel before tucking it back into his waist. He looked down on the agonizingly screaming Hill with undisguised mockery in his voice, saying, “Lord Hill, it seems you don’t like zerg cubs very much. Next time, there’s no need to bother whipping female zergs. This way, once and for all, it’s much better. I assure you, for the rest of your life, you won’t ever have zerg eggs again.”
After kicking Hill aside from the doorway and stepping over the bloodstains on the floor with his black military boots, Faeus turned around and left the hospital room.
Meanwhile, Xu Cenfeng was sitting quietly on a bench outside, anticipating what might transpire inside. He had guessed correctly and chose not to enter. Only when he heard Faeus coming out did he finally lift his head from the chair.
Faeus knew that Xu Cenfeng disliked such bloody scenes, yet he deliberately brought him along for no other reason than to make Xu Cenfeng understand that he wouldn’t tolerate any opposition.
He wouldn’t kneel down like the females in the West, nor would he succumb to love like Haite, losing his mind and resisting. He was cold, ruthless, domineering, and decisive. For anyone who dared to betray him in the future, their fate would be even worse than Haite’s.
Faeus stopped in front of Xu Cenfeng, then slowly crouched down, maintaining eye contact with him. It was the first time in his life that he lowered himself to speak to another zerg like this, his voice low and filled with ambiguous meaning: “I crippled him.”
It was akin to a general showing off his spoils of war.
Yet it also seemed like he was observing Xu Cenfeng’s reaction.
He wanted to see if Xu Cenfeng would be afraid, if he would show any signs of terror. After all, such matters were excessively horrifying for male zergs; even the females were left pale-faced with fright, let alone Xu Cenfeng.
However, Faeus was disappointed. Xu Cenfeng showed no reaction at all. He simply rose from the bench, glanced briefly towards the ward, then looked away. His tone remained calm: “Let’s go. We should head home soon. It’s snowing heavily outside, and the roads will be difficult.”
Faeus raised an eyebrow lightly at Xu Cenfeng’s words but chose not to say anything further. He stood up from the ground and gestured to the soldiers before taking Xu Cenfeng downstairs and leaving.
His grip on Xu Cenfeng was tight, almost to the point of causing pain, but his mood seemed to be good. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have acted this way in front of everyone.
Yenia hesitated for a moment and then subconsciously caught up with them. “Leader!”
Faeus paused his steps. “Is there something else?”
Yenia had initially intended to suggest that disposing of Hill in such a manner might provoke public outrage. However, he quickly realized that the target of that outrage would be Faeus, not himself, so he swallowed his words before they could leave his mouth.
Yenia hesitated for a moment before saying, “Zog has been waiting for you in the military office.”
Upon hearing this, Faeus recalled his troublesome cousin. Zog had taken Xu Cenfeng to the auction house without permission, and Faeus had intended to reprimand him for it. However, due to his weakened physical condition, Faeus had delayed taking action thus far.
Faeus frowned in thought. “Has there been any beast tide reported recently?”
Yenia tentatively responded, “There seems to be a fire ant tide in the Multar Forest?”
Faeus made a decisive decision. “Send him there. Have him exterminate the fire ant tide completely before returning!”
Faeus didn’t want to linger in the hospital any longer. After his statement, he directly left with Xu Cenfeng. As they passed the corner, Xu Cenfeng glanced upward and saw Yenia standing there lost in thought.
It seemed to Faeus that Xu Cenfeng was showing excessive concern for Yenia, but for some reason, he remained silent on the way back, not speaking until they finally arrived home.
In the northern regions, where it is cold, large flocks of white magpies often frequent residential areas. These birds are ominous symbols, known for their preference for pecking at carrion and eyes, and their foul-smelling droppings, making them highly unwelcome.
Faeus took out a sniper rifle from the cabinet, aimed at the large group of white crows frequenting near the residential area’s garden wall. Squinting one eye, he calmly targeted those flapping, foul-smelling birds in the vast white snowfield, hitting his marks with each shot.
After firing a dozen shots, Faeus finally asked with no emotion in his voice, “Do you know Yenia?”
At that moment, Xu Cenfeng was sitting on the carpet reading a book, and upon hearing the question, he instinctively raised his head. “Why do you ask?”
Faeus frowned. “You’ve been looking at him a lot today.”
He continued, squeezing the trigger, accompanied by several gunshots. Another four or five magpies fell victim to his shots, inadvertently revealing his jealousy and bitterness.
However, Xu Cenfeng admitted, “Hmm, I’m not very fond of him.”
Upon hearing this, Faeus paused, instinctively turning to look at Xu Cenfeng. He observed the serious expression on the male zerg’s face, realizing he wasn’t joking. His eyebrow raised slightly. “Why?”
Xu Cenfeng turned a page in his book without lifting his head. “He wants to take your position.”
He thought that Faeus would be somewhat surprised to hear this sentence. However, the female zerg casually tossed the gun aside and leaned against the window sill, smiling ambiguously, “Oh, so it’s because of that.”
Xu Cenfeng didn’t understand why he was so calm: “Aren’t you nervous?”
Faeus simply walked over to where Xu Cenfeng was sitting, and he sat down on the floor beside him. He rolled up the sleeves of his shirt to his elbows, revealing a portion of his bronzed forearm that displayed latent strength. “It’s normal for him to want to be the leader. It’s not just him; there are many zergs in the army who want to be the leader too.”
Xu Cenfeng thought to himself that Yenia not only wanted to become the leader but also desired his demise. He then brought up another matter: “Won’t there be any danger in sending Zog to exterminate the alien beasts?”
He remembered that Zog had died in the alien beast tide in his past life, which led General Wesley and Faeus to become enemies. Zog’s cause of death was probably not so simple.
Faeus calmly responded, “Just a group of fire ants, they’ll be wiped out clean in less than three days. He’s not some helpless three-year-old cub.”
Xu Cenfeng couldn’t directly express his concerns and casually remarked, “What if Zog gets injured out there? Won’t General Wesley blame you? I heard he commands a third of the forces in Hossburgh and is quite powerful.”
Faeus heard the words and was about to say something, but in a flash of insight, he furrowed his brow. Suddenly, he realized that what Xu Cenfeng said wasn’t entirely unreasonable. After all, General Wesley was quite fond of Zog, who was somewhat of a lone prodigy. If someone were to make an issue out of this, it could potentially stir up trouble.
After a prolonged silence, Faeus finally spoke, “Well, General Wesley does indeed care a lot about him…”
There seemed to be an underlying implication in his words, suggesting that there was more to it than meets the eye.
Therefore, Xu Cenfeng understood that Faeus had taken note of this matter. Faeus was naturally suspicious, and Xu Cenfeng didn’t need to make Faeus trust him completely. Planting a seed of doubt in Faeus’ mind would suffice.
However, how to handle the young cub named Agu remains a problem.
General Wesley gave birth to his son Uguz while he was campaigning far away. Because of the distance, very few zergs knew about this matter, and even Faeus, as close kin, might not have any recollection, let alone the outside world. After all, losing a single cub is not a major event. Over a decade has passed, and apart from General Wesley, no one else would bring it up.
If Xu Cenfeng were to rashly tell Faeus that the larva might be General Wesley’s lost offspring, there are only two possibilities:
First, he’s lost his mind.
Second, he’s tired of living.
This matter must not be spoken by Xu Cenfeng. He can only slowly guide Faeus, finding ways to let the other party discover it.
Zog is a good lead.
Xu Cenfeng casually asked, “Doesn’t Zog have any siblings?”
Faeus responded nonchalantly, “Hmm, just him.”
Xu Cenfeng inwardly thought that it seemed Faeus was genuinely unaware of this matter. “I thought General Wesley would have several more children,” he said aloud, “turns out there’s only one.”
Faeus, upon hearing this, finally recalled something and said uncertainly, “Zog should have had a younger brother by blood, but it seems he passed away more than a few years ago.”
Xu Cenfeng: “How many years ago?”
Faeus straightforwardly: “Forgot.”
Xu Cenfeng: “…”
Alright.
Xu Cenfeng closed the book and prepared to get up from the ground, but unexpectedly, he was pulled back by Faeus. He looked at him instinctively, his eyes showing confusion. “What’s wrong?”
Faeus noticed that Xu Cenfeng kept circling back to the topic of the cubs, and he asked with a meaningful tone, “Did you see Haite today at the hospital?”
Xu Cenfeng was puzzled. “Yes, I did.”
Faeus smirked slightly. “What did you think?”
Xu Cenfeng seemed to understand something upon hearing this. He looked up at Faeus and said quietly, “You won’t become like him.”
Faeus was taken aback.
Xu Cenfeng reached out and gently touched Faeus’ face, his gaze tender as their foreheads touched, nose to nose. His expression serious, he said, “I will be very good to you. In the future, if we have offspring, I will be very good to them too. Your fate won’t be like Haite’s…”
Faeus heard these words and for a moment his breathing became irregular. He stared intensely at Xu Cenfeng, their breaths mingling together. The temperature in the room seemed to rise gradually as he uttered in a husky voice, “Xu Cenfeng…”
Xu Cenfeng: “Hmm?”
Faeus: “Have I met you somewhere before?”
He had a strange sense of familiarity with Xu Cenfeng.
Xu Cenfeng fell silent for a moment at his words. “Perhaps…”
But that ending was not good, nor was that story worth praising, so they all paid the price of death.
Unconsciously, Faeus had already pressed Xu Cenfeng down onto the carpet. He straddled over Xu Cenfeng’s waist, then slowly unbuttoned his own shirt, revealing his bronze-toned chest to the air, appearing more robust than before. With a mischievous intent, he asked, “Xu Cenfeng, want to have a go?”
Suddenly, Faeus felt a strong desire to be intimate with the male before him, for reasons he couldn’t quite explain.
Xu Cenfeng was taken aback by his actions, slightly surprised. “But isn’t your recovery period not yet over?”
The female zerg’s physical constitution had always been robust. Faeus’ reproductive organs had nearly recovered, with only some lingering weakness, but no other sequelae. Leaning over Xu Cenfeng’s body, his chest lightly brushed against the other’s cheek as he nonchalantly remarked, “Hmm, not quite over yet, but what should I do about it?”
The feast was right at his lips, so why wouldn’t he indulge?
Xu Cenfeng could only comply and kissed back. He tried to flip Faeus underneath him, but Faeus held his shoulders firmly. “I want to be on top.”
Northern and western female zergs both preferred to be on top. The difference lay in the former’s desire for control and the latter’s aim to make it easier for the male, though their ideologies differed, in practice, they did not conflict.
Xu Cenfeng didn’t feel at a disadvantage and could only agree.
