Ah Sui didn’t know that Carlos was grumbling about him. After finishing his sword practice, he went to the bathroom for a shower. When he came out, he sat on the floor as usual, ready to have breakfast. Since he had specifically instructed this morning, the plump cook had delivered two identical breakfasts.
“Big Boss, here is today’s breakfast. The canned sugar water has already been opened for you. Be careful not to cut yourself.”
The interstellar pirates was stationed in the wilderness, and it was not easy to procure supplies. Additionally, there wasn’t much dry wood nearby for burning. Most of the time, they relied on canned goods and compressed food to stave off hunger.
Although Ah Sui liked sweet food, he wasn’t picky. He nodded and replied, “Got it. You can go now.”
The plump cook responded with a smiling “Yes” and, before leaving, glanced into the inner cabin. He saw a golden-haired, blue-eyed female zerg and quickly averted his gaze, hurrying away.
Seeing the cook leave, Ah Sui said to Blairand, “Come over and have breakfast.”
Blairand walked over slowly upon hearing the call and then noticed that there were two identical meals laid out on the ground. He sat down cross-legged and picked up one of the cans of sugar water, staring at it as if lost in thought. “Do your captives always receive such good treatment?”
It was unlikely, as Blairand had already witnessed Carlos’ cruel methods. So he found it even harder to understand why this male zerg in front of him would treat him so well.
Unjustified kindness was always more unsettling than unwarranted hostility.
Although Ah Sui hadn’t been with the Klayt Alliance for long, he was fairly familiar with the rules of the interstellar pirates, having once been a prisoner himself. He shook his head at the comment and said, “The other captives only get one meal a day.”
Only by keeping them hungry would they be too weak to escape.
Blairand, upon hearing this, opened his can of sugar water and, with a deft motion, subtly hid the can’s metal lid behind him. At the same time, he distractedly asked, “Then what about me? How many meals a day do I get?”
Ah Sui assessed Blairand’s physique and thought that this beautiful man probably didn’t eat much. After a moment of consideration, he held up three fingers. “Three meals a day. If that’s not enough, you can eat mine.”
Blairand was taken aback. “Why?”
Ah Sui generously replied, “There’s no reason. If you want to eat, just eat.”
He was so “kind” to the point where, if one day Blairand really escaped and came back with an army to eradicate the interstellar pirates, he might even feel a sense of guilt when he captured Ah Sui.
What else could be done?
Was he supposed to just let the other zerg go?
After finishing his meal, Blairand sat alone in the starship, lost in thought, but his hands remained busy. He took the metal lid he had secretly hidden and rolled it into a sharp, thin wire. Then, he carefully inserted it into the keyhole of his wrist restraints, patiently exploring the internal mechanism.
Old-fashioned locks like these were long outdated because they were too easy to pick. Now, electronic locks were in use. However, the chips embedded in electronic locks were connected to the military network, rendering them useless if stolen by the interstellar pirates.
“Click—!”
Blairand’s wrist restraints opened.
He looked down to check the condition of the lock, ensuring that he could open it again in the future. Satisfied, he, “click”, locked the restraints back into place to avoid arousing suspicion from the interstellar pirates outside.
Blairand cut a small slit below the collar of his shirt and hid the wire key made from the metal lid in a hidden compartment inside. He carefully concealed it, making sure no trace was visible, and then neatly flipped the collar back into place.
Now, he just needed to wait for the right opportunity to escape. The male zerg guarding him wasn’t very alert, so getting away should be relatively easy.
However, Blairand didn’t expect the so-called “opportunity” to come so quickly.
In the afternoon, Ah Sui, feeling bored, went out for a stroll. He appeared to be patrolling the territory but was actually discreetly investigating the assets of the interstellar pirate leaders. In the end, he reached the conclusion that he was indeed the poorest.
With no guns and no starship, it seemed Ah Sui had none of the trappings of a big boss.
Ah Sui found a secluded snowbank and sat alone, propping his chin up with one hand. From the back, he even looked somewhat melancholic. While idly poking the ground with his sword, he suddenly heard a roaring sound from a short distance away. It resembled the noise of an aircraft flying through the sky, and he instinctively stood up from the ground.
The sound grew louder and more intense. Eventually, not only Ah Sui but also the plump cook, who was cooking near the camp, noticed something was wrong. They both looked up at the sky and saw a swarm of dark specks heading their way.
Black Fang had been injured by Ah Sui the previous day and was lying on the starship to recuperate. Carlos happened to be outside drilling the troops. Upon seeing the situation, he snatched the binoculars from the sentry and peered into the distance. His expression suddenly changed drastically as he saw something. “Not good! The Black Eagle Alliance is coming! We need to retreat immediately!”
At his command, the other pirates in the camp panicked and hurriedly gathered their supplies, running aboard the starship to prepare for evacuation. The plump cook, seeing that Ah Sui was still standing in a daze on the snowbank, rushed over, yanked him down, and, sweating profusely, urged, “Boss! We need to leave now! If we stay any longer, we’ll be in grave danger!”
Ah Sui withdrew his gaze and asked, “What is the Black Eagle Alliance? Is it an army?”
The plump cook, in a state of panic, slapped his thigh and replied, “Of course it’s not an army! The Black Eagle Alliance is the Klayt Alliance’s arch-enemy. They are also interstellar pirates, just like us. If they’re coming now, they’re definitely planning to take advantage of the chaos and launch a sneak attack. We haven’t even recovered from the last fight with the military—let’s get out of here!”
Given the cook’s urgent explanation, Ah Sui had no choice but to flee with the main group. Just as the camp was in a state of disarray, several large energy bombs suddenly rained down from the sky. They exploded one after another upon impact, creating countless deep craters on the ground. The blasts were so deafening that everyone’s ears rang, and many of the pirates who were packing supplies were injured by the explosions.
Carlos had already climbed aboard the starship. Seeing the situation, he shouted hoarsely, “Send a squad with ten starships to resist them. We’ll cover from the rear. Hurry!!”
One subordinate, his expression anxious, said, “Second Leader, the Black Eagle Alliance has too many starships. Ten might not be enough…”
“Smack!”
Carlos responded by slapping him hard, his face twisted with rage. “I said ten, so ten it is! Now go execute the order!”
Carlos was solely focused on escaping with his life and couldn’t bear to sacrifice his own starship as cannon fodder. While urging his subordinates to transfer supplies, he sent out the former leader’s old crew to draw enemy fire, revealing his selfish nature.
At this moment, Ah Sui had already struggled through the gunfire to climb back onto his starship. Seeing Blairand inside, he hurriedly grabbed him and urged him to run, his tone anxious. “Come with me! The interstellar pirates are attacking!”
Blairand asked in confusion, “Where are we going?”
If the interstellar pirates were attacking, shouldn’t they be flying the starship into the sky? Why was Ah Sui pulling him outside instead?
Ah Sui replied, “Of course, to hide on the neighboring starship. Brother Cenfeng can fly a starship; I can’t!”
Without any subordinates to assist him, Ah Sui found himself in a difficult position as everyone was scrambling to escape and no one had the time to help him. Suddenly, Blairand seemed to recall something and pulled Ah Sui back. “No need to go next door; I can fly the starship.”
Hearing this, Ah Sui remembered that Blairand was a Major General in the military. “Then hurry up and start it! If we delay any longer, the interstellar pirates will be upon us!”
Blairand looked at him deeply. “Are you sure you want to let me fly?”
Ah Sui thought there was nothing to be afraid of and quickly led Blairand to the control room, urging, “Let’s get out of here quickly. Those interstellar pirates are formidable. If we get caught by them, what will we do?”
They would both end up as captives.
Blairand responded inwardly but did not speak. As he piloted the starship to take off, he considered whether he should escape amidst the chaos. However, he soon realized his concern was unnecessary. The Black Eagle Alliance’s firepower was overwhelming, and Carlos and Black Fang had already fled with their fleet to save themselves, leaving behind only the old, weak, and injured to draw fire, who were in no position to escape.
“Boom—!”
Another violent explosion sounded, and this time the blast directly impacted their starship, causing the entire cabin to shake for a moment. Blairand skillfully maneuvered the starship to evade the incoming fire. Through the display screen, he noticed that many pirates on the ground hadn’t had a chance to escape yet, including the plump cook.
He must have been very dedicated to his job; otherwise, he wouldn’t be frantically chasing the fleet, begging Carlos to take him along, while still dragging his pots and pans. Amidst the surrounding bombardment, he and the other pirates fled in a pitiable state, using pot lids as makeshift shields. It was as pitiful as it was desperate.
With bullets flying overhead, they couldn’t spread their wings to escape; their broad wings would only increase their chances of getting hit.
To conserve ammunition, the Black Eagle Alliance deployed several starships to descend slowly from the sky. Once they landed, a large group of armed and hatted interstellar pirates poured out of the hatch and began frantically firing at the battlefield.
Seeing this, Blairand unconsciously furrowed his brows. In the mindset of military zergs, they would rather die than abandon their comrades. But in the mindset of the interstellar pirates, only the strong survive.
The ten starships that Carlos had left behind were now trapped in the encirclement of the Black Eagle Alliance. They were still fighting desperately, trying to find a way out.
Suddenly, Blairand asked Ah Sui, “Do you want to escape?”
If Ah Sui wanted to flee, Blairand could easily pilot the starship to get them out of there.
Ah Sui, who had been staring blankly at the bomb-riddled ground through the porthole, was slow to respond. When he did, he unexpectedly turned and walked over to the hatch, pressing the red open button without hesitation.
The starship’s hatch slowly opened, and an uncountable amount of wind and snow instantly rushed in, the cold piercing to the bone.
Seeing this, Blairand instinctively stood up. “What are you doing?”
Ah Sui, half-squatting by the hatch, had his hair blown wildly by the wind. Hugging his precious sword, he waved to Blairand, a gesture of farewell.
“I’m going down. They’re still down there and haven’t made it up.”
Xu Cenfeng still had a starship; he could take the plump cook and the others aboard the neighboring starship. Ah Sui thought about how he still needed to eat in the future, and if the plump cook got killed in the explosions, it would be a problem.
Blairand hadn’t expected Ah Sui to actually want to go down and his expression changed slightly for a moment. “Aren’t you afraid of dying?”
Ah Sui shook his head. “I’m very strong; I won’t die.”
The wind and snow blew in, disheveling Blairand’s hair. His light blue eyes fixed on Ah Sui, unable to understand why this male zerg would risk his life for a few insignificant old and weak zergs.
Isn’t he an interstellar pirate?
Blairand frowned. “Aren’t you afraid I’ll escape?”
To his surprise, Ah Sui glanced at him and said, “You should take this opportunity to escape quickly. When Carlos and the others return, you won’t be able to escape even if you want to.”
After speaking, he tapped the ground with his sword hilt, quite generously. “This starship is yours now.”
To avoid the artillery fire, the starship wasn’t flying very high. Ah Sui glanced at the dozens of meters of altitude below, donned his emergency vest, and leaped down. His parachute deployed with a swoosh, carrying him slowly toward the ground.
When Ah Sui was just a few meters from the ground, he drew his long sword and sliced through the parachute’s lines, dropping directly into a snowbank. He rolled to dissipate the impact and then ran towards the plump cook and the others.
Meanwhile, the starship piloted by Xu Cenfeng turned around and deployed an emergency rope ladder from the air. The hatch opened, and Heim and the others were desperately waving at Ah Sui from the entrance:
“Ah Sui! It’s dangerous! Hurry up and get on board!”
Ah Sui couldn’t hear their voices. With a powerful leap, he immediately charged into the encirclement. Drawing his sword, he swiftly cut down the Black Eagle Alliance’s interstellar pirates, saving the plump cook and the others one by one.
Blairand held the control stick, his grip loosening and tightening, unable to bring himself to leave. He adjusted the control stick, turning the starship’s direction to enter the aerial encirclement.
Forget it…
Blairand thought to himself that there was no guarantee he could escape the Black Eagle Alliance’s pursuit, so he might as well take a gamble.
He retrieved the thin iron wire from his collar and quickly unlocked the cuffs from his wrists. At the same time, he sent a connection request to the other ten starships from the control panel. The interstellar pirates, mistaking the request as coming from their allies, accepted the main control connection.
Blairand soon gained control of the other ten starships. With his background in command and his experience in suppressing the Black Eagle Alliance, he was most familiar with their tactics.
Blairand adjusted the starship formation and targeted the weakest points in the interstellar pirates’ defenses, launching a fierce attack. He finally managed to tear a small hole in the encirclement. Glancing at the battlefield below, he accurately dropped several energy bombs into the interstellar pirates’ ranks and then maneuvered the remaining starships to draw fire away, buying Ah Sui some time to escape.
However, the difference in numbers between the two sides was enormous, and no amount of delay would change the fact that they were fighting a losing battle.
As Blairand’s ammunition ran out and he could only evade the enemy’s attacks, a sudden sound of air turbulence came from the distance. To his surprise, the Black Eagle Alliance’s interstellar pirates, who had initially departed, were returning in large numbers.
Half an hour ago, Carlos and Black Fang had led the remaining starships in retreat. His subordinates, shocked by his disregard for their comrades’ lives, were visibly distressed. “Third Leader, aren’t we supposed to cover their withdrawal?”
Carlos gave him a cold glare. “What nonsense are you talking about! We lost nearly half of our forces fighting the Imperial Army. Charging in now would be suicide. The Black Eagle Alliance is clashing with us in the outskirts; it will soon attract the attention of the military. If we don’t escape now, we’ll all end up in prison!”
The subordinate, furious, shouted, “Second Leader, my brother is still on the battlefield and hasn’t been evacuated! Are you asking me to just watch him die?”
Carlos, having no family ties, cared most about his accumulated wealth. However, not all the interstellar pirates were like him; many had comrades they had fought alongside on the battlefield.
The other commanders, unable to abandon their comrades in the heat of battle, turned their starships around to rescue them, despite Carlos’s furious shouting over the intercom.
The arrival of reinforcements eased a significant portion of the pressure.
At that moment, Ah Sui had safely escorted the cook and the others onto the starship. He was standing at the bottom, preparing to climb up the lift, when another starship suddenly flew overhead and dropped down a lift.
Blairand stood at the cabin door, his clothes flapping wildly in the cold wind. Frowning, he looked at Ah Sui with a complex expression and urged in a low voice, “Hurry up!”
Ah Sui hesitated for a moment between Blairand’s lift and the one from Xu Cengfeng, but ultimately chose Blairand’s. Using the lift for support, he leapt up and grabbed the ladder, climbing back into the starship’s interior. He finally joined the rest of the team in fleeing the dangerous battlefield.
The Black Eagle Alliance relentlessly pursued them, but it wasn’t until nightfall that Ah Sui and the others finally shook off their pursuers. They chose a defensible and hard-to-attack valley as their temporary camp for rest.
After the fierce battle, more than half of the members of the Klayt Alliance were injured. Even Ah Sui had his leg wounded by stray bullets. The camp was filled with wails and cries, a truly miserable scene.
Blairand sat inside the starship, contemplating whether to take the opportunity to escape.
Ah Sui sat on the ground, carefully examining the contents of the medicine kit and tending to his own wounds. His calf was injured by stray bullets, a large area of flesh and blood was mangled, and it looked quite dreadful.
Blairand felt that Ah Sui might cry, not for any particular reason but because the young male seemed like a bundle of white cotton candy—innocent and naive, and such a creature could not withstand any harm.
Surprisingly, Ah Sui remained calm. He neither cried nor shouted, but simply focused on studying the strange characters on the medicine bottles, eventually discovering that he couldn’t recognize any of them.
Blairand hadn’t originally planned to intervene. He was regretting missing a good opportunity to escape earlier when he suddenly saw Ah Sui pour a can of gel onto his leg. Without waiting for his brain to catch up, he instinctively rushed forward and grabbed Ah Sui’s wrist. “This is for waterproofing on bandages!”
Was this zerg clueless?!
Ah Sui was startled by the comment and quickly put the medicine can away, mumbling to himself, “I thought it was for reducing swelling.”
Blairand looked at him silently, a hint of confusion flashing in his light blue eyes. “Can’t you read?”
Ah Sui: “…”
Although Ah Sui didn’t say anything, his evasive gaze spoke volumes.
Blairand looked down at Ah Sui’s bloodied leg, deep in thought. Finally, he crouched down silently and began to clean the wound, his movements skilled and efficient, clearly a sign of military training.
Ah Sui fell oddly silent. He noticed a strand of golden hair slipping from Blairand’s ear and, after a moment of hesitation, reached up to tuck it back behind his ear.
Blairand noticed Ah Sui’s gesture and paused for a moment. He instinctively wanted to turn his head away, but the side of his face tingled and even his neck felt stiff.
Blairand glanced at Ah Sui, noting the grime on his face. He couldn’t help but ask, “What’s your name?”
Ah Sui wrote three characters on the ground: “温绥之, my name is Wen Suizhi. You can call me Ah Sui.”
Blairand silently processed the name, finding the surname rather unusual. “Why did you become an interstellar pirate? Aren’t you afraid of making your male and female fathers sad?”
Blairand wondered if the other’s family had a tradition of being interstellar pirates.
Ah Sui replied, “I’m an orphan, so I don’t have…”
He hesitated for a moment before uttering the slightly odd words, “No male and female fathers.”
Blairand fell silent, wondering if he had touched on a painful subject. However, Ah Sui clutched his sword and added, “I have a grandfather. Once I find my Grandpa San, I won’t be an interstellar pirate anymore.”
Perhaps due to mentioning his background, the youth in front of him, for the first time, looked somewhat serious. He lowered his gaze to Blairand’s wrist, where the shackles had left marks, and touched them gently, speaking softly, “Don’t worry. I’ve already talked to Brother Cenfeng. When we find an opportunity, I’ll let you go.”
Blairand suddenly asked, “Don’t you want my wings?”
Ah Sui was taken aback by this, realizing that indeed, people in this world seem to have wings. However, he had only seen Black Fang’s wings, which were gray and not very nice-looking, “Are your wings beautiful?”
Blairand remained silent.
Ah Sui, still curious, asked, “What do your wings look like? Can you show me?”
Blairand remained silent.
Ah Sui, having already triggered two of Blairand’s sensitive spots, was still unaware. He then inadvertently touched the third and biggest sensitive spot: “I like things that are shiny. Are your wings shiny too?”
Blairand, who had no intention of showing his wings to Ah Sui, was even less inclined to do so now. He expressionlessly closed the medicine box with a “click” and went directly to the bathroom for a shower, leaving Ah Sui alone, sitting on the floor in a daze.
Did I say something wrong?
Ah Sui was somewhat puzzled. As he tidied up the mess on the floor and was about to throw away the trash, he suddenly discovered a silver chain under the seat. Pulling it out, he realized it was the handcuff that had been used to restrain Blairand earlier.
Ah Sui stared blankly for a moment: “…”
When did he manage to open them?
When Blairand came out of the shower, he saw the young zerg sitting on the floor with a hesitant expression, holding a pair of handcuffs.
Blairand’s steps faltered for a moment upon seeing this. He walked over, took the handcuffs from Ah Sui’s hand, and said nonchalantly, “They accidentally blew open during the battle today.”
He finished speaking and fastened the handcuffs back onto his wrists with two clicks, even pulling them tightly in front of Ah Sui to prove that they were secure.
Ah Sui had no choice but to pretend to believe his clumsy excuse and went to the bathroom to take a shower. Blairand noticed the long sword in Ah Sui’s hand and suddenly asked, “Could you lend me your sword for a moment?”
Ah Sui paused in his steps, “What do you need the sword for?”
Blairand looked down, his tone emotionless, “To trim my hair.”
In the southern region, female zergs are naturally fond of beauty and have a habit of keeping long hair. Blairand used to have short hair in the military, but after enjoying a life of luxury on the main star for too long, his hair had grown out to this length without him realizing it. Such long hair was actually inconvenient for combat, so he wanted to cut it off.
Ah Sui felt it was a pity. He crouched down and touched Blairand’s golden hair, saying, “Your hair is so beautiful, why do you want to cut it off?”
Beautiful things should be protected.
But Blairand did not like such beauty that brought disaster. He even hated it when zergs praised his wings, his appearance, or everything about him because behind those praises lurked dirty desires and plundering.
Blairand casually remarked, “It’s too long, it’s a hassle.”
Ah Sui looked around the room and asked, “Can’t you tie it up with a rope?”
Blairand lifted his gaze and glanced at him. His refined profile, under the light, had a jade-like glow, and in the interplay of light and shadow, he looked breathtakingly beautiful. “Here, we only have the ropes used for binding prisoners.”
Ah Sui also realized that in a den of interstellar pirates, there probably wouldn’t be anything for tying up hair. As he thought about it, he suddenly picked up his long sword, removed the tassel at the end, and carefully unwrapped it into a black tassel with golden threads.
“This will work,” he said, holding up the tassel.
The tassel was made by Ah Sui’s aunt, who was the most skilled craftswoman in Folang Village. Ah Sui had cherished this tassel and carried it with him for many years.
Without waiting for Blairand to respond, Ah Sui gently gathered his golden hair, combed it into a ponytail, and then wrapped it neatly with the tassel. The result was quite beautiful.
Ah Sui touched the tassel with a hint of reluctance and said, “This tassel was given to me by my aunt. I’ll give it to you. Don’t cut your hair; keep it well.”
Blairand was momentarily stunned by the words. He instinctively turned to look at Ah Sui, who was also looking at him. Seemingly out of curiosity, Ah Sui suddenly reached out and touched the back of his neck, hesitating as he asked, “Is this your zerg markings?”
On the back of Blairand’s neck was a silver, intricate totem. As the estrus period approached, it occasionally changed color. Ah Sui remembered that Xu Cengfeng had told him that this was a pattern unique to females. However, Xu Cengfeng had apparently forgotten to tell Ah Sui one thing: the zerg markings on a female is considered even more private than their body, and only the future mate is allowed to touch it.
“…”
Blairand’s breath momentarily caught, and his light blue eyes suddenly began to turn a deep red.
