ICAWZ Chapter 41

ARC 1: Hohenzollern

[We never worship deities, and we never conceal our ambitions.

Long have we walked alone in the darkness, chasing the solitary shadow under the bright moon.

The distant kingdom has long been destroyed, and history shall eventually crumble into fragments.

Greed is not base; selfishness runs in our blood, and ambition should be held high.

There is no crime of betrayal in this world, for our loyalty lies only with ourselves.

Even if glory bows before us, we shall never bow as subjects.]

For the nobility of the main star, the Northern Zerg Clan is like an unmentionable taboo. In the distant era, long before the Zerg Race had flourished, their ancestors had once joined forces to resist external enemies, forming a close-knit bond as if they were brothers.

However, in a battle they knew they would lose, the ancestors of the Northern Zerg Clan were unwilling to fight to the death for glory. Instead, they directly led a portion of their people to rebel and escape to another place, taking root in the harsh and inhospitable environment of Hossburgh. From then on, they became separated from the western faction.

Since that time, Hossburgh has become synonymous with betrayal. Unlike the western zerg clan’s pursuit of glory, the Northern Zerg Clan spent their lives attempting to make glory bow its head.

Lu Yuan had heard before that the Northern Zerg Clan revered female zergs, and most of them were robust and warlike, but he didn’t know if it was true. As he followed the commotion with his eyes, he saw a densely packed group of figures suddenly appear at the entrance of the palace. They looked like a flock of crows representing death and ominousness, descending among a group of swans, abrupt and unsettling.

In contrast to the white uniforms of the western nobility, the Northern Zerg Clan mostly embraced black. Hence, their military attire primarily featured a black and gold color scheme, giving it an oddly magnificent appearance.

As the light from above poured down, casting intricate shadows, it illuminated a group of ambitious faces. Their bronzed skin symbolized the most primal wildness and vitality, with sharp and profound features. On their faces, there were ancient golden totems drawn, giving them an aura of sanctity that seemed untouchable.

Yusto watched coldly, offering a half-smile as he explained to Lu Yuan, “That red-haired female zerg is the current leader of the Northern Zerg Clan, Faeus.”

Lu Yuan glanced over and saw in the forefront of the densely packed group a red-haired female zerg, with mysterious emerald-green eyes. It was evident that the other party did not regard this grand banquet with much importance. The white military shirt was casually open, revealing a robust chest, and the black and gold military jacket draped over the shoulders exuded arrogance, a stark contrast to the conservative demeanor of the western female zergs.

Faeus evidently noticed the Zerg Emperor standing on the second floor. His gaze paused, and he directly led a few close attendants towards the upper level. As he passed, the nobles on the way automatically stepped aside, not out of fear, but out of disdain.

The two major clans, whether in their behavior, demeanor, or way of life, were starkly different. They had long found each other disagreeable, with numerous conflicts erupting over the years. From minor verbal skirmishes to full-fledged bloody battles, a subtle antagonistic relationship had coexisted between them on this land.

As the nobility of the capital city looked upon them with disdain, the northern zerg clan responded in kind.

Western clan’s view of the North: Coarse and vulgar.

Northern clan’s view of the West: Pretentious and showy.

Onlookers’ perspective on both: Drama and conflict.

Due to his concealed position, Lu Yuan went unnoticed by them. Rarely had he seen such a wild and mysterious race, and he couldn’t help but feel intrigued. He spoke up, asking Yusto, “Is it true that the Northern Zerg Clan reveres female zergs?”

Yusto gently swirled his wine glass, and the dark red liquid rippled against the cup’s walls. “Certainly, in Hossburgh, they honor the strong. They would never bow to a male zerg weaker than themselves.”

Upon hearing this, Lu Yuan subtly glanced at Yusto, feeling that this female zerg seemed to be born into the wrong clan. With his rebellious nature, he should have belonged to the Northern Zerg Clan instead. “So, what are their mating rules over there? In the west, it’s one male with multiple females. Is it the opposite in the north, with one female having multiple males?”

“How is that possible, Your Excellency? Even in the prosperous capital, male zergs are scarce, let alone in the distant north.”

Yusto took a sip of his drink, his words carrying a profound meaning, concealing thoughts and possessiveness known only to himself. “However, within Hossburgh, as long as you’re powerful enough, you can monopolize a male zerg.”

Whether it was a misconception or not, Lu Yuan seemed to detect a hint of envy in Yusto’s tone. After all, within the capital, no male zerg had ever exclusively taken a female monarch, not even the Zerg Emperor had that honor. As proud as Yusto was, he couldn’t guarantee that Lu Yuan wouldn’t marry other female consorts in the future.

Lu Yuan paused, about to say something, but before he could speak, attendants from the Zerg Emperor’s side suddenly descended from the second floor. They respectfully bowed to him, saying, “Your Excellency Lu Yuan, His Majesty wishes to invite you to the second floor.”

Upon hearing this, Lu Yuan subconsciously looked up at the second floor. He saw the Northern Zerg Clan leader, who had just been there, leaning against the railing, looking down at him from a high vantage point. He raised his wine glass towards him from a distance, lips slightly curled, and his emerald-green eyes filled with interest.

Hossburgh always favored black, and evidently, they found interest in Lu Yuan’s black hair and dark eyes.

Before Lu Yuan could respond, Yusto exploded with anger. He glared at the attendant, asking coldly, “Is His Majesty the one who wishes to see Your Excellency Lu Yuan, or is it those uncouth northern zergs who want to see His Excellency Lu Yuan?”

The attendant awkwardly smiled at the remark, unsure of how to respond. He wiped the sweat on his forehead with a handkerchief and said, “Your Highness, I am just conveying the Emperor’s command.”

Fernando, not understanding why Yusto reacted so strongly, teased, “Yusto, His Majesty wants His Excellency Lu Yuan, not you. Why are you in such a hurry?”

Yusto choked at the words, thinking to himself that, of course, he was in a hurry. Those northern female zergs clearly had ill intentions. If Lu Yuan went there, wouldn’t it be like a lamb entering a tiger’s den?!

Lu Yuan remained calm and addressed the attendant, saying, “I understand. I’ll go over in a moment. You can go up first.”

The attendant, originally responsible for delivering the message, looked grateful at Lu Yuan’s response and quickly turned to ascend the stairs. Yusto, feeling uneasy about Lu Yuan going alone, placed his wine glass on the table and furrowed his brow slightly, saying, “I happen to have something to discuss with His Majesty. Let’s go up together.”

Yusto was currently on high alert, fearing that if he wasn’t with Lu Yuan, someone might take advantage of the situation.

However, Lu Yuan declined, “It’s okay. I’ll be back shortly. It won’t take too long.”

After finishing his words, Lu Yuan raised his hand to adjust his cufflinks. Suddenly, he noticed Yusto looking at him with a somewhat pitiful expression. Pausing for a moment, Lu Yuan boldly reached out, pulled Yusto into an embrace in front of everyone, then leaned over to kiss his cheek. In a low voice, he said, “Wait for me downstairs. Be obedient.”

Without paying attention to the stunned and dumbfounded expressions of Fernando and the others, Lu Yuan, after habitually patting Yusto’s head, turned and walked towards the second floor, leaving a happily disheveled mess for Yusto to sort out.

Little did Lu Yuan know that his recent actions had Fernando and the others on edge, fearing that Yusto might unleash a punch, knocking him to the ground. After all, Yusto was notorious for his aversion to male zergs. Anyone among the noble male zergs who had tried to lay hands on him before had without exception received a thorough beating. For more details, one could refer to the Durant family member who was still lying in the hospital, unable to get up.

But getting beaten up was one thing; if Lu Yuan got injured, that would be a different story considering his pure bloodline, a hundred percent purity. It could lead to a significant issue!

Seeing the tension, Fernando took a nervous step forward. In his mind, he had rehearsed over a hundred ways to restrain Yusto if he were to erupt in anger. However, even as Lu Yuan turned to leave, there was no sign of any anger from Yusto.

Yusto hadn’t anticipated that Lu Yuan would publicly embrace him like that. After a brief moment of bewilderment, his face flushed entirely red. Under the gaze of Fernando and the others, he appeared embarrassed and at a loss, wanting nothing more than to find a hole to hide in.

Oh no, oh no! Why did Lu Yuan kiss me in front of them? I haven’t figured out how to explain it yet!!

Fernando stood there, dumbfounded, finally realizing something was amiss. Pointing at Yusto in shock, he asked, “Yusto, you guys…you guys wouldn’t be…”

Although Yusto felt like he had been slapped in the face, he could only grit his teeth and put on a brave face, trying hard to act as if nothing had happened. With an indifferent tone, he said, “Exactly as you’re thinking, Fernando. He is my future male lord, so you can rest assured now.”

The last sentence hit the mark – exterminate zergs, annihilate the heart. No doubt about it!

At those words, Fernando was almost knocked backward. He had suspected something when Lu Yuan inexplicably approached earlier. Now, it turned out he was looking for Yusto. Angrily, he whispered, “Damn it! Didn’t you say you wouldn’t let those vile male zergs touch you even if you were beaten to death? How come you suddenly found a male zerg to be your male lord?!”

Yusto’s gaze wavered, feeling an unprecedented twinge of guilt, yet he lifted his chin arrogantly, saying, “I did say that, but… he’s not at all vile.”

Not only was he not vile, but he was also quite capable in a fight, had an excellent physique, excelled in cooking, and even his cursing was oddly endearing. In Yusto’s eyes, every aspect of Lu Yuan sparkled, and he found it quite unbelievable.

Blairand, perhaps the calmest among them, chuckled and sincerely offered his congratulations, “If it’s that gentleman, it’s no surprise you’d be smitten, Your Highness. Congratulations.”

Yusto frowned, saying, “You can congratulate me when we actually get married.”

As long as they weren’t married, he didn’t consider Lu Yuan completely won over.

Meanwhile, Lu Yuan had already reached the upper floor. He saw a female zerg, dressed in imperial attire, standing among several high-ranking imperial officers. His face resembled Yusto’s but appeared much more mature. He must be Emperor Apu. Lu Yuan walked up and bowed respectfully, saying, “Greetings, Your Majesty.”

Lu Yuan’s actions were ostentatious and domineering, yet his demeanor was extremely restrained, precisely the type that elders often favored. Emperor Apu had heard about Lu Yuan beating up several male zergs in the capital and had assumed he was a restless and impulsive young man. However, seeing him now, he appeared quite composed.

Although Emperor Apu always maintained a low-profile demeanor, it wasn’t hard to sense his satisfaction with Lu Yuan as his future son-in-law. “I’ve heard about you from Yusto a long time ago. Indeed, just as he described, you are a young and outstanding man.”

Lu Yuan, who considered himself somewhat of a semi-illiterate, wondered how he was associated with the phrase “young and outstanding”. He knew it was a polite expression, but he behaved smartly in front of his future father-in-law, nodding slightly and saying, “Your praise is too kind.”

Emperor Apu seemed to intend to introduce Lu Yuan to some military generals, particularly those from the visiting Hossburgh. With a subtle hint, he said, “This gentleman here is the male zerg you wished to meet, with a blood purity of 100%. He and Yusto get along well, and I plan to arrange their engagement soon.”

In other words, Lu Yuan had already been reserved by the royal family, and the less important zergs were advised to stay out of it.

However, the Northern Zerg Clan leader, Faeus, seemed indifferent. His gaze lingered on Lu Yuan’s rare black hair and eyes, a pensive expression on his face. Then, he smiled and pointed to the two handsome attendants behind him, saying to Lu Yuan, “Your Excellency, your eye color is quite beautiful. Would you be interested in taking in two female consorts?”

Lu Yuan’s exceptionally pure blood also implied a high reproductive rate. Faeus was clearly considering whether he could use Lu Yuan to produce a male cub for the northern clan with a blood purity of 100%.

The two female zergs behind him stepped forward at the opportune moment, subtly showcasing their robust physique. Their healthy, bronze-colored skin exuded a vigorous and sensual vitality.

The faces of several imperial generals darkened at Faeus’ suggestion. In their minds, they couldn’t help but curse silently. There was only one male zerg with a 100% blood purity, and they couldn’t even get their fair share. How dare the northern clan come and try to snatch him away?!

Seeing their reactions, Lu Yuan’s eyelid twitched involuntarily. To be honest, he was more interested in sparring with female zergs of such physique rather than considering them as consorts. He preferred Yusto, the soft and fluffy bunny zerg. Frowning, he asked, “But I heard that in the north, females are revered. Males should take females as their female monarchs, right?”

Faeus chuckled softly, “Your Excellency, when in Rome, do as the Romans do. If you like them, we can arrange for them to be your consorts.”

Despite the significant differences in appearance between the two clans, some imperial nobles had a particular fondness for the robust and attractive female zergs. They just kept it hidden and didn’t openly display such preferences.

Faeus believed that Lu Yuan wouldn’t refuse. After all, it was just two female consorts. Many noble males in the capital had an indeterminate number of consorts; it was not an uncommon practice.

Unexpectedly, Lu Yuan declined, saying, “Thank you, but I already have a female monarch whom I like.”

Faeus raised an eyebrow, “They’re just consorts, Your Excellency.”

Lu Yuan persisted, “I’m sorry, but I have no intention of taking consorts.”

His refusal surprised the other female zergs to varying degrees, even catching the attention of Emperor Apu. They all understood how rare a 100% blood purity was. It was quite common for male zergs to have seven or eight consorts, and given Lu Yuan’s current status, it was expected that he might have even more. However, he unexpectedly had no intention of taking consorts?

How is that possible?!

This was the unanimous thought in the hearts of all the female zergs.
