ICAWZ Chapter 96

ARC 3: Battle

Bauer was the top-ranked fighter on the Morhan fighting list, boasting an impressive record of thirteen consecutive victories. His massive build alone suggested formidable strength, making Xu Cengfeng’s lean frame appear somewhat inadequate by comparison.

The audience below the stage roared wildly, cheering him on:

“Go, Bauer! Show that Western male zerg your might!”

“If you can’t beat that male zerg in the ring, how can you enjoy yourself in bed!”

“Go! Go! Go!”

With the crowd’s shouts reaching such a fever pitch, Bauer felt that if he didn’t make a move, he’d be seen as a coward. Letting out an angry roar, he immediately charged at Xu Cengfeng. His massive hand reached out, aiming to grab this male zerg and throw him off the stage, making him regret his earlier words.

Some softer-hearted spectators couldn’t bear to watch anymore. After all, Bauer was notorious for his brute savagery, and this male zerg was likely to suffer a severe fall.

However, Xu Cengfeng, despite his seemingly frail appearance, possessed surprising strength. In a flash, he grabbed Bauer’s wrist, targeting the critical meridian of this female zerg. With a precise joint lock technique, he caused Bauer to let out a scream of pain. Bauer’s entire arm instantly went numb, rendering it useless in the fight.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Xu Cengfeng lifted his knee and delivered a powerful strike to Bauer’s abdomen. The move was swift and forceful, causing Bauer to instinctively bend over in pain. But before he could react, Xu Cengfeng’s hand, shaped like a knife, chopped down on the back of his neck. Simultaneously, his fingertips pressed hard on Bauer’s temple, followed by a fierce sweeping kick.

“Bang!”

A thunderous noise echoed across the ring as the huge zerg fell flat on his face in front of the stunned audience. Dazed and disoriented, he lay on the ground, struggling to get up for quite some time.

“Wow—”

The audience was instantly filled with shock and disbelief. They had never expected the physically imposing Bauer to be taken down in less than twenty moves, nor had they anticipated that the seemingly lean Xu Cengfeng would possess such swift and decisive skills.

Faeus, seated in the stands, had a flicker of surprise flash in his eyes upon witnessing this. Unconsciously, he rubbed his lips, concealing a barely perceptible smile. His dark green eyes suddenly gleamed with a hidden fire, reflecting an interest even he hadn’t realized.

Without any discernible emotion in his voice, Faeus asked Hawke, “I asked you to investigate Xu Cengfeng’s identity. Did you find anything?”

Hawke leaned in and lowered his voice, “Reporting to the Supreme Leader, we’ve checked both the Western and Northern regions, but we couldn’t find any information on this male zerg.”

“Useless.”

Faeus uttered the words coldly, “There’s no need to continue searching!”

Hawke nodded in agreement. He felt there was no need to search further. Who else but an interstellar pirate could handle a female zerg like this? Xu Cengfeng was most likely an interstellar pirate without a doubt!

Meanwhile, the announcer was already crouching beside Bauer, shouting at the top of his lungs to encourage him, “Bauer! Can you stand up again?! Come on! The final ten-second countdown! Come on, get up!”

Bauer felt his vision darken and his ears ring incessantly. He struggled to move, attempting to stand up from the ring. However, his neck was sore and numb, his arm dislocated, and his legs were agonizingly painful. Just as he managed to straighten his body, he stumbled back down.

The audience erupted into a chorus of boos: “Get off the stage! Get off! Get off!”

The ring was a cold and harsh place, where the audience only cheered for the strong. If Bauer couldn’t stand up, he would become discarded trash.

Most of the female zergs who fought in the Morhan arena came from the slums. They couldn’t carve out a place in the military, where nobles often stuck together, nor could they receive a proper education to pursue careers in business or other professions. Female zergs like Elden were rare, and their experiences were the stuff of legends.

In the arena, there were more like Bauer, relying on brute strength and physical prowess to earn hefty rewards. They were the impoverished female zergs who fought for a chance at a better life. If they were lucky enough to win a match, they could bask in temporary glory, but if luck was not on their side and they lost, they were left either dead or maimed.

Bauer remained the top-ranked fighter on the fighting list, and to everyone’s surprise, as the announcer counted down to the ninth second, he somehow managed to stagger to his feet from the ground, bruised and swollen, yet determined to continue the fight.

Xu Cengfeng stood quietly by the side, neither rejoicing at Bauer’s fall nor showing any annoyance at his opponent’s resurgence. Clad in all black, he exuded a sense of cleanliness and purity that starkly contrasted with the savage brutality of the blood-stained arena.

“Ah!!!!!”

Bauer let out an angry growl and charged at Xu Cengfeng once again. With one arm dislocated, he could only clench his fist and attack with his remaining hand.

Xu Cengfeng sidestepped, his movements agile and graceful. In contrast to the rough and crude fighting style prevalent in the North, he embodied a subtle elegance. However, for some reason, he didn’t strike back throughout the entire exchange, merely evading Bauer’s attacks.

Before fighting Xu Cengfeng, Bauer had endured three brutal battles to vie for the highest purity of blood in the region, Hill. He was left battered and bruised, with not a patch of untouched skin on his body. Now, with his arm dislocated and his leg broken, he was truly fighting on his last legs.

Even if Xu Cengfeng were to strike back, he couldn’t find a way to do so.

Continuing the fight would either leave the opponent dead or crippled.

Finally noticing Xu Cengfeng’s evasion, Bauer wiped the blood from his face with his hand. His brown eyes stared intently at this male zerg who had shattered his understanding of combat. He seemed slightly less ferocious than before as he gasped for breath and said, “Your Excellency, dodging indefinitely won’t end the fight! I’m not one of those who can’t afford to lose!”

Implicit in his words was a challenge for Xu Cengfeng to unleash his true strength and defeat him on the stage.

With no other option, Xu Cengfeng decided to strike back. As he saw Bauer’s fist coming towards him, he moved like a cloud, sidestepping to his rear. His palm formed into a blade, originally aimed to strike at Bauer’s vulnerable back. However, upon noticing a wound with flesh protruding, he swiftly changed direction, turning his blade into a palm strike aimed at Bauer’s shoulder.

Bauer staggered back a few steps, almost falling out of the ring. He managed to regain his balance, seemingly unaffected by the pain, and continued to swing his only functional fist towards Xu Cengfeng.

Throughout the ensuing brawl, Xu Cengfeng continued to strike, but he always held back, deliberately avoiding Bauer’s vital points and delivering blows that were neither too light nor too heavy, simply enough to push his opponent away. Every moment of their fight was captured by the cameras and magnified infinitely onto the large screen above.

Xu Cengfeng’s movements were always graceful and fluid. He never engaged in direct clashes with Bauer, instead targeting the vulnerable areas of his body. Even when facing a female zerg whose size dwarfed his own, he appeared to handle the situation with ease. For the audience below, it was a revelation. They realized for the first time that excitement didn’t solely come from bloodshed; the sight of these unprecedented and peculiar techniques held them captivated.

“Crack—”

With the final strike, Xu Cengfeng grabbed Bauer’s dislocated arm. He twisted it sharply, and the crisp sound of bones cracking reverberated throughout the arena, prompting a cry of pain from Bauer.

But Xu Cengfeng didn’t stop there. Seizing the opportunity as Bauer stumbled towards the ropes, he spun around and delivered a kick, sending his opponent tumbling out of the ring, thus concluding the fight.

Rolling down the steps of the platform, Bauer landed on the ground with a dizzying thud. He struggled to stand up, subconsciously clutching his injured arm. To his surprise, he found that the dislocated joint had already been reset. His expression changed, and he looked at Xu Cengfeng in astonishment.

Meanwhile, the announcer raised his microphone high, his voice trembling with excitement as it echoed throughout the arena, “Heavens above! I can hardly believe my eyes! Bauer, the top-ranked fighter on the fighting list, has actually been defeated by this gentleman! This is truly the most spectacular and extraordinary match in the history of the Morhan arena! Let us give our applause and cheers to the victorious gentleman!”

The surrounding applause thundered, and the cheers nearly overturned the dome.

Standing in the center of the arena, Xu Cengfeng remained calm and composed as ever. The play of light and shadow danced above him, while his gaze was serene, resembling a tranquil and polished white jade. He nodded slightly towards Bauer in the audience, conveying a gentleness and refinement that sharply contrasted with the brute force of the Northern region.

In the arena, victory or defeat was the only outcome, regardless of rules. Competitors were allowed to use any means necessary to win the match.

Xu Cengfeng’s recent bout unfolded like a visual feast, devoid of any bloodshed or violence, and without resorting to underhanded tactics. He stood on the platform with integrity, resembling a gentleman who could win with grace and elegance, while also allowing his opponent to accept defeat with dignity.

The culture of Hossburgh was fierce, and female zergs would never kneel before a male zerg weaker than themselves. However, they revered true strength, and such a fair and honorable victory clearly earned more respect than one achieved through cunning schemes.

Bauer had a gut feeling that today’s match might be the most satisfying defeat he’d ever experienced on this grim and deceitful fighting stage.

Without saying a word, Bauer bowed his head and gave Xu Cengfeng a respectful pat on the shoulder, then quietly retreated from the arena. It was the highest form of courtesy in the entire Northern region.

Faeus sat in the stands, toying with a retractable telescope in his hand. His deep green eyes were fixed on Xu Cengfeng, his thoughts inscrutable. He chuckled at the male zerg’s excessive kindness, yet at the same time, he felt a twinge in his heart, as if tickled by a feather.

Look at that, it’s truly remarkable.

In a place like Hossburgh, filled with greed and desire, could there really be a male zerg so clean and courteous?

Not only Faeus’ heart felt a bit restless, but the nobles of the Northern region also began to stir. Their faces varied, but they shared the same ambitious gleam in their eyes, though it was difficult to discern in the dim light.

The organizers of the arena were adept at seizing the moment, and they promptly ordered the prize money for the matches to be doubled.

The audience watched as a servant suddenly approached the announcer and whispered something in his ear. The announcer immediately looked towards the contestants’ area below, his voice filled with excitement as he exclaimed, “Is there anyone else who wants to come up for a match?! Is there anyone else?! The organizers have just announced that the prize money has been increased tenfold! Defeat this gentleman, not only will you earn the opportunity to be marked by him, but you’ll also receive an astronomical sum of money! Who else wants to step up?!”

With these words, the crowd erupted into a frenzy. The prize money for each match had skyrocketed to one million star coins, ten times its original amount. The organizers of the Morhan arena were certainly feeling quite generous!

For the aristocrats, such money might not mean much, but for those born in the slums, it was nothing short of a fortune. The contestants’ area immediately became restless at the prospect. However, before they could make a move, a slender figure suddenly leaped onto the platform.

“I’ll do it!”

Xu Cengfeng looked up to see the challenger—a tall and slender female zerg. Unlike the other female zergs from the Northern region, he wasn’t as robust. His dark green hair was braided into a high ponytail, and he wore neat and tidy clothes, in stark contrast to the battered and bruised competitors below.

The audience exclaimed in surprise:

“It’s Sheyi!”

“Unbelievable, he’s actually stepping onto the stage!”

Sheyi ranked thirty-fifth on the fighting list, but that didn’t mean he was weaker than Bauer. It was simply because he rarely participated in matches, resulting in a lower accumulation of points.

The audience who frequently attended the fights knew that Sheyi specialized in taking money to fight on behalf of the nobles. If a noble on the platform fancied a particular male zerg, they would pay Sheyi a hefty sum to participate in the match and ensure their chosen male zerg’s victory.

Now, with Sheyi suddenly stepping onto the stage, it could only mean one thing: there was definitely a noble in the audience who had taken an interest in Xu Cengfeng.

Yenia sat beside Faeus, and upon seeing this, couldn’t help but chuckle. “Faeus, things are getting more interesting by the minute. This male zerg is quite popular. Even I feel like joining in.”

Faeus, however, kept his gaze fixed on the arena and coldly replied, “It’s not your affair, Yenia.”

His eyes now harbored a sense of possessiveness.

The second match on the platform had already begun.

Sheyi stretched his neck slightly and then made a gesture of invitation towards Xu Cengfeng. He appeared much more composed than Bauer earlier. “Your Excellency, allow me to learn from your techniques.”

A voice from the audience below warned, “Your Excellency, beware of this despicable zerg! He hides many concealed weapons on his body!”

Xu Cengfeng took note of this warning.

As the referee announced the start of the match, Sheyi immediately launched an attack on Xu Cengfeng, his movements agile and swift, akin to that of a serpent. Having observed Xu Cengfeng’s prowess during the earlier match, Sheyi knew this male zerg was no ordinary opponent. Thus, he didn’t hold back, each move carrying a deadly intent.

Xu Cengfeng countered Sheyi’s attacks while aiming for the weak points in his opponent’s body. However, he noticed that Sheyi showed no response to these strikes, displaying none of the expected signs of numbness. Frowning, Xu Cengfeng finally realized something was amiss.

Sheyi’s slender physique meant he couldn’t rely on brute strength like Bauer. To win the match, he had to rely on agility or resort to some underhanded tactics.

Xu Cengfeng recalled the warning from the audience earlier and noticed that Sheyi’s clothing seemed tightly fitted. Narrowing his eyes, he finally realized what was going on.

The audience saw Xu Cengfeng, who had been evading attacks, suddenly switch to the offensive, delivering a swift and fierce kick towards Sheyi. Sheyi dodged to the side, but Xu Cengfeng seized the opportunity, grabbing his shoulder and executing a powerful grappling move. Sheyi was unable to break free in time, and there was a tearing sound as Xu Cengfeng ripped off his opponent’s clothing.

The audience erupted into a series of alternating gasps as they saw through the large display screen the needles and blades hidden in Sheyi’s clothing.

Sheyi was startled and immediately broke free, executing a move akin to a cicada shedding its shell.

Xu Cengfeng glanced at his torn clothing, noticing numerous small pockets sewn on the inside containing sharp hidden weapons. The material of the clothing was special, with considerable weight, acting as a layer of soft armor. No wonder his earlier attempts to strike pressure points had yielded no response.

Xu Cengfeng flicked his wrist, tossing the garment directly off the platform.

Faeus’ eyelid twitched at the sight. He hadn’t expected Xu Cengfeng to have the audacity to tear a female’s clothing right in front of him?!

But then again, upon reflection, he and Xu Cengfeng had no relationship to speak of. Naturally, Xu Cengfeng could tear or do whatever he pleased without concern for him.

With this thought in mind, Faeus unconsciously raised an eyebrow, his mood slightly less than pleasant.

With Sheyi now stripped of his armor, his fighting prowess noticeably diminished. He found himself pushed back by Xu Cengfeng, nearly kicked off the platform several times.

At a critical moment, Sheyi suddenly whipped his head, flinging the long braid behind him. Hidden within it was a thin blade. Although Xu Cengfeng managed to dodge in time, he still got scratched on the back of his hand, leaving a vivid trail of blood on his otherwise pristine skin, a stark contrast against its whiteness.

Faeus, seeing this scene through the display screen, had a face so dark it seemed like water could drip from it: “Who allowed this scoundrel to bring a blade onto the arena?!”

Hawke’s face twitched as he tactfully reminded, “Supreme Leader, carrying blades on the arena has always been allowed.”

They were the greedy and despicable denizens of the North, after all. Carrying blades on the arena was quite normal, and some even concealed poison.

In the audience, the crowd had already begun to curse aloud:

“That snake, Sheyi, is such a despicable zerg! Always resorting to dirty tricks!”

“How could you bear to harm such a handsome male zerg like him?!”

“Get off the stage!”

Xu Cenfeng didn’t react much. Since he was participating in the fight, getting injured was just part of the deal. However, this Sheyi was indeed tricky, like a slippery eel that he couldn’t seem to kick away.

Both of them had already exhausted more than half of their stamina, and dragging it on wouldn’t benefit anyone.

Sheyi glanced towards the spectator stands where his employer sat. The other party clearly wanted to get their hands on Xu Cenfeng, this handsome male zerg. They showed no signs of giving up, so without a word, they made a gesture, signaling him to finish the match as quickly as possible.

Sheyi gritted his teeth and had no choice but to charge at Xu Cenfeng again. However, this time, Xu Cenfeng changed tactics. Instead of attacking his limbs, he twisted his wrist and grabbed onto Sheyi’s long ponytail.

Sheyi’s pupils contracted. “You!”

But Xu Cenfeng just muttered “Sorry,” as pulling someone’s hair wasn’t exactly a dignified move. Taking advantage of Sheyi’s restricted movement, he landed a palm strike on his shoulder and a horizontal kick to his knee. With a thud, the zerg knelt directly on the platform.

Sheyi felt a sudden force on his back, and then his vision spun. Before he knew it, he was sent flying off the platform by Xu Cenfeng’s impressive flying kick.

“Thud—!”

Sheyi fell awkwardly to the ground in full view of everyone, clearly defeated.

Not only were the spectators cheering wildly, but the announcer was also excited, his voice booming, “Oh my! Oh my! Sheyi, undefeated until now, has actually lost to this contestant! Who else wants to step up? Who else wants to step up?!”

Xu Cenfeng had been injured just now, and half of his sleeve was stained with blood. Having endured the previous two battles, his chest was heaving unevenly, showing signs of significant fatigue. The female contestants participating below seemed to have noticed this, all feeling a bit restless, silently calculating their chances of winning.

Expressionless, Faeus stared at Xu Cenfeng’s pale face, his gaze falling on the injured arm. It was unclear what he was thinking.

The announcer’s voice boomed even louder: “Who else? Who else wants to step onto the stage?! Just defeat this gentleman, and not only will you get the chance to be marked, but you’ll also receive a hefty reward!”

“It’s the last match! Are there really no female contestants lucky enough to earn the mark of this gentleman?!”

“Hurry up! Hurry! If there’s no contestant stepping up within the next minute, the rules will automatically declare this gentleman the winner!! You’ll miss your chance!”

The contestants below gritted their teeth, ready to step up and give it their all. However, at that moment, a black figure suddenly leaped down from the high stands, gracefully vaulting over the railing and landing directly on the arena—

“I’ll go!”

The low, resonant voice of Faeus reverberated throughout the entire arena, stunning the surrounding audience. His deep green eyes locked onto Xu Cenfeng on the platform, a slight smirk playing at his lips as he said, half-smiling, “How could we let this gentleman return empty-handed after coming all the way to the North? The females of Hossburgh aren’t inferior to those fellows from the West. We must let this gentleman witness our true strength.”

Xu Cenfeng was taken aback by Faeus’s sudden decision to join the fray, a hint of surprise flickering in his eyes. He gazed at the untamed female before him, pondering what he might be thinking. Finally, he smiled, shrugged off his hindering outer garment, and discarded it aside, leaving only a blood-stained white shirt.

With his sleeves rolled up, Xu Cenfeng eagerly accepted the challenge. His deep voice resonated clearly through the amplifiers, reaching every ear in the audience: “I’m delighted to witness your true strength.”

Let’s just fight, after all, it’s not like we haven’t fought in our past lives.
