Chapter 1

Dislike

Yan Xingzhi dislikes his Omega.

Their marriage was solely due to compatibility without any feelings.

“Yeah.” The Alpha paused briefly, thinking, ‘Who can’t act cold?’

No one spoke in the room, only the faint sound of the Omega turning pages. Xu Shen’s fingers are slender, the friction of turning pages creating a soft rustle. Occasionally, the Omega would pick up a pen, either underlining or making simple markings.

It’s… quite a pleasing sight—

Yan Xingzhi’s gaze finally landed on the Omega’s bare left ring finger.

The Alpha froze for a second, bare??

“Ahem!” The Alpha suddenly coughed violently twice, then leaned against the bookshelf.

“What’s wrong?” Xu Shen asked, puzzled.

“Nothing.” The Alpha’s tone was indifferent as he pulled out a book and flipped it open, pretending to read nonchalantly.

As if it didn’t matter.

—If the ring on his left ring finger hadn’t intentionally glinted.

Omega finally spoke up after the ring caught his eye for the fifth time, a hint of hesitation in his voice, as if explaining, “I went to the lab today, so I took the ring off.”

“Oh, deal with it yourself.” Yan Xingzhi finally put down his book.

Yeah, the coughing fit had passed.

The study door opened and closed, and Yan Xingzhi went downstairs first.

After the Alpha left, Omega let out a soft sigh.

He knew he was not likable. An uninteresting person like him, unable to converse or have interesting hobbies. Even…sometimes he couldn’t understand others’ intentions. In school, he buried himself in books. After graduating, only research piqued his interest.

But since they married, Omega wanted to nurture the relationship properly.

Omega closed his book. His bedtime was usually 9 p.m., but today, after waiting, it was 10:30 p.m. Omega rubbed his reddened eyes and returned to his bedroom.

The next day was sunny. Omega finished work early. Recalling dating tips from the previous day, he deliberated for two minutes before entering a flower shop.

With a bouquet in hand, Omega went to the Alpha’s company for the first time.

As soon as he parked, an unfamiliar Omega blocked his path, glaring at Xu Shen with hostility.

“You are? The one Mr. Yan married through an arranged match?” That Omega leaned close, his pheromones wafting around Xu Shen.

——It was peach.

Xu Shen disliked this person instinctively and stayed silent.

Unexpectedly, that Omega grabbed Xu Shen’s hand, dropping the fresh flowers. As Xu Shen tried to withdraw his hand, the Omega stumbled and fell.

“How could you push me?” The Omega’s voice cracked as he started crying, a tear rolling down.

“I didn’t—”

“What’s going on?” The Alpha’s voice came from behind Xu Shen, cutting him off.

What’s Going On

“What’s going on?” The familiar voice rang out in the underground parking garage. Xu Shen turned to see the frowning Alpha.

Yan Xingzhi walked over. Half an hour ago, he knew that Xu Shen had bought a bouquet of flowers.

His friend had sent him a photo – Omega was holding a bouquet of flowers in his arms, but his expression was distant as if warning others not to approach.

[Whatever]: There’s a pharmacy about 100 meters left from the institute, get him a mask.

Yan Xingzhi sat in his office, swiveling his chair around before unlocking his phone to nonchalantly glance at the screen. Ignoring the expressionless face, his Omega looked so obedient. Xu Shen’s slender hands cradled the bouquet. Perhaps he rushed from the lab or got careless holding the flowers, but his white shirt collar was askew, revealing a glimpse of his lean collarbones.

The Omega gazed through the crowd, through the phone screen. His eyes seemed devoid of emotion yet brimming with everything.

Damn.

[Whatever]: Why did he buy flowers?

Friend: Finally asked, huh? Take a guess.

Yan Xingzhi watched the clock’s minute hand go round and round in his office. His friend said Xu Shen’s car was headed this way, but it had already been 13 minutes and 32 seconds with no sign of him?

Just three traffic lights.

A maximum 10-minute drive.

Could he have gotten lost?

Eventually, the Alpha put down his pen and headed downstairs.

He was responsible if his Omega went missing, after all.

Hmph, it wasn’t for those stupid flowers.

He didn’t want to actively seek out that cold Omega.

As soon as he reached the parking lot, he heard a tearful voice, as if greatly wronged: “How could you push me?”

The dim parking lot light barely illuminated Xu Shen. He stood straight, his slender Omega frame not appearing frail at all.

Yan Xingzhi cleared his throat and asked what happened.

Though he seemed to address both of them, the Alpha’s gaze was fixed solely on Xu Shen, paying no mind to the crying Omega on the ground.

“Mr. Yan…” Seeing no one was paying attention, the Omega on the ground gritted his teeth and spoke first, “I’m sorry, it was my fault. I only said a couple things, I didn’t think Mr. Xu would mind…”

The sickly-sweet peach-scented pheromone wafted over, in stark contrast to the cold cedar at home.

Fragrant and soft – a scent Yan Xingzhi should like.

Yet he paid no attention, even unconsciously taking a step back and leaning towards the cedar on the side.

Why wasn’t his Omega saying anything? Where was the cedar scent? Why was it so faint?

The Alpha inched closer.

Only when the Omega mentioned “Mr. Xu” did Yan Xingzhi snap out of it, nearly pressing against Xu Shen.

“Ahem—” Yan Xingzhi felt awkward, glancing at the person on the ground, but addressing Xu Shen with slight exaggeration, “Is this person from the neighboring film company?”

“Ah?” Before Xu Shen could react, the Alpha grabbed his hand, their rings clinking together deliberately.

“You’re so good at acting, it’s a waste not to be an actor.” Yan Xingzhi remarked.

Laughable, his Omega didn’t even acknowledge himself, yet he could push people?

Though his silly Omega probably couldn’t even argue properly. How could he be so stupid?

Fortunately—

No, never mind.

Why should he care if Xu Shen was silly?

He…he didn’t like cold, icy Omegas!
