*Glossary: ‘zhēnxiāng’ [真香] meme is a meme to roast those who easily failed to stick to their words. It directly translates to ‘smells good or delicious’. It was first used in 2018. This meme originated from a hot reality TV show by the name of ‘Metamorphosis’ where urbanites are arranged to swap lives with rural participants temporarily for a change. One of the urbanites, Wang Jingze, refused to eat meals served to him in the village and vowed; “I, Wang Jingze, would rather die of starvation or jump off a building than touch your food!” But within two hours, apparently starved and desperate, he could be seen digging heartily into his bowl, claiming it to be “zhēnxiāng (so delicious)” as he gobbled up his food. This scene has since gone viral on the internet and quickly became a meme to roast those who easily failed to stick to their words.

*TITLE EXPLANATION & DISCLAIMER (Must Read): If you want to find the raw chapters, go ahead but I think they won’t put in the mature chapters on the internet (I’m not sure though). I got the mature chapters from a friend who lives in China. The title of the novel is directly translated to ‘I only like your character design’ with the word ‘rénshè’ [人设] = ‘character design’. The original title in NU is ‘I Only Like Your Character Setting’. I originally translated this novel without realising that there was another translation being done already on the novel. But since it has not been updated for two years, I’m still posting my translation here. And I would like to apologise to the previous translator in advance for changing the details of the novel in NU since there are parts which were not accurate. I’m sorry for that. Allow me to explain why I changed the title to ‘made-up persona’. To put it simply, ‘rénshè’ means the kind of persona that you show to the world (especially on social media). Like the persona you showed on Instagram might not be your true self and also like some of those K-pop idols which were assigned with a persona for them. Some were assigned to be the joker of the group or with a sunny personality. Some were assigned to be tsundere of some sort or to be the mysterious type. So, a ‘rénshè’ will be partly themselves but also partly a fictional persona or character. I refuse to use ‘character design’ because to me, it sounded more technical. I can’t help but associate ‘character design’ to gaming since I developed games before. Lol.
