INHA Chapter 123

Entering the aircraft

Since they had found the cause, they needed to thoroughly investigate all of the spirit’s actions before death, including the time of death and, most importantly, the burial location.

With the official inquiry underway, all the information was gathered in less than ten minutes.

The spirit was named Pan Mao, a resident of Fengnian City. His daily life was quite normal; he was just an ordinary person. However, just a few days before the incident, his wife noted that Pan Mao had been unusually restless. When she asked him about it, he assured her that there was nothing wrong, only suddenly mentioned that he wanted to take good care of his parents in the future.

His wife found this puzzling and pressed him for more information, but to no avail.

In the following days, Pan Mao began dividing his assets into three portions, giving them to his parents, his son, and his wife, but with the stipulation that his wife could not remarry; otherwise, she would lose the inheritance and it could even be reclaimed.

Pan Mao’s actions raised significant concerns for the Anomaly Handling Bureau. In the following days, despite having no reason to travel to another city, he inexplicably bought a plane ticket and then died mid-flight.

His inheritance was naturally divided into three parts and his wife chose not to remarry, opting instead to care for their child. However, Pan Mao’s parents and wife felt that his death was not an accident and that there had to be a reason behind it.

The police conducted an investigation but found no evidence of foul play. Still, the timing of his inexplicable death shortly after writing his will felt exceptionally coincidental.

Yet, they genuinely uncovered nothing.

Pan Mao’s parents fell into deep grief and the arrival of the Anomaly Handling Bureau made them hope for a breakthrough. Instead, they received an extremely shocking revelation: their son had transformed into a spirit and the mysterious face in the sky was his. They were urged to carefully consider any details that might have been overlooked.

Pan Mao’s wife had indeed harbored resentment toward him, especially since the will explicitly stated that she could never remarry; otherwise, the inheritance would be reclaimed. However, she didn’t want to return to that previous life, and since it was a kind of transaction, she eventually came to terms with it.

Why would she want to remarry? Life with just her and their child was fulfilling enough, wasn’t it?

As the officials encouraged their cooperation, Pan Mao’s wife began to recall important information.

“Pan Mao’s behavior had changed in the months leading up to the incident. Although he used to come home late reeking of alcohol and the scent of other women, in recent months, he hardly did so. When he was late, there was no trace of alcohol or any other woman’s fragrance; instead, he appeared unusually excited—an indescribable thrill, almost as if he were mad with excitement.”

Pan Mao’s parents also shared a memory. They recalled that in the months before the incident, he would often visit them, sometimes saying that if one day he didn’t return, they should live well. He would also mention that even if he died, he would transform into another kind of existence.

Looking back now, those words seemed to hint at something significant.

Pan Mao’s parents rushed outside, tears streaming down their faces, crying out to the eerie face in the sky: “Son, my son, please look at me!”

Pan Mao’s parents pulled their confused and fearful grandson over, urging, “Look, this is your son. Don’t you want to see him?”

However, their cries failed to draw Pan Mao’s attention. He had completely transformed into a spirit, devoid of the human emotions he once had.

While an evil ghost might at least harbor some resentment, a spirit was different—it lacked all emotions, cold and unfeeling, driven only by the impulse to kill.

Pan Mao’s parents cried until their voices were hoarse, filled with immeasurable sorrow.

They couldn’t understand why their son had become a spirit. Although they hadn’t been online much recently, they had heard about spirits from the news.

Once the officials determined that they couldn’t gather more information from Pan Mao’s parents and wife, they left a few police officers and handlers behind. The rest headed to Pan Mao’s burial site. They had already received consent from his parents to open the coffin and confirm whether there was anything in the ashes.

As expected, they found nothing.

The situation seemed to reach a standstill until the officials received information from the aviation bureau that a civilian plane had gone missing. According to protocol, this plane should have landed by now.

They quickly checked the details and discovered that the plane had lost signal half an hour before the appearance of the human face spirit, which raised further suspicions among the handlers.

The urgent task now was to locate this plane.

Immediately, the officials began aerial searches around the area of the face in the sky. Through the dense clouds, they vaguely spotted a plane, eerily still and motionless.

Zooming in on the aircraft, they saw the interior through the windows, and everyone felt a sense of dread.

They needed to find a way to save the people on that plane while also preventing it from crashing due to loss of control—an incredibly difficult challenge.

After much contemplation, Xu Dongyou expressed his desire to board the plane to deal with the spirit, reasoning that he was the best candidate for the task.

Firstly, he was strong, but more importantly, he had various means of self-defense, and crucially, he could locate and seal the spirit immediately.

Even if the plane crashed, he could manipulate the surrounding clouds to control the aircraft until the pilot regained command. In summary, he was the most suitable choice.

Additionally, he considered another advantage: if he fell due to an accident, he could transform back into his original form and fly away, unlike other handlers who faced the risk of dying from the fall.

Meanwhile, the Anomaly Handling Bureau recognized that everyone was watching this situation unfold, so they decided Xu Dongyou should live-stream the event. Regardless of the outcome, the public needed to know what was happening and that the bureau was tirelessly working to rescue everyone without giving up.

Then, Xu Dongyou’s live stream began. This time, the broadcast looked different from before; Xu Dongyou’s identity had been revealed, so there was no need to pixelate his face anymore. However, for the other handlers, many had not informed their family and friends about their identities, so they remained pixelated.

As soon as Xu Dongyou’s stream opened, everyone who followed him rushed in. The barrage of comments flew in as many viewers noticed Xu Dongyou in the frame, seemingly discussing something about the plane with others.

Everyone felt confused and quickly commented to ask what task they were doing, with some inquiring about the strange face in Fengnian City.

Xu Dongyou began with his usual opening remarks, then succinctly explained the situation: “Now, I’m going to approach that plane via helicopter and enter to find and seal the spirit.”

Upon hearing this, his fans immediately grew anxious, instinctively wanting Xu Dongyou to refuse. But then they remembered that aside from being a popular idol, he was also the captain of the 9th Squad.

Still, many wondered why it couldn’t be someone else executing this task and why it had to be Xu Dongyou.

Before Xu Dongyou could respond, the commander beside him glanced at the comments and replied, “Because Xu Dongyou’s abilities are best suited for high-altitude rescue.”

Without elaborating further, he confirmed that Xu Dongyou was equipped with safety gear and solemnly said, “Return safely.”

“Understood!”

Xu Dongyou quickly boarded the helicopter and gradually approached the plane. Meanwhile, the previously calm strange face seemed to notice the helicopter, twisting grotesquely as it produced several thunderous sounds in broad daylight.

The pilot continued to move forward, but gradually, the surrounding clouds began to converge, obstructing the helicopter’s approach. Viewers watching the live stream felt their hearts race, commenting in distress about what could be done.

Before they could even contemplate solutions, they saw Xu Dongyou controlling the clouds to gradually part, creating a path wide enough for the helicopter to pass through.

Everyone immediately sighed in relief, bombarding the comments with expressions of awe. It was no wonder he was chosen for this task; after all, he was most adept at manipulating water, and clouds were just another form of it.

Although electronic devices were unusable on the plane, the passengers could still see the outside scenery and naturally noticed the approaching helicopter. Excitement spread among them and the flight attendants and co-pilot rushed over. As Xu Dongyou reached the boarding area of the plane, he immediately manipulated vines to create a passage and walked through.

The crew quickly opened the cabin door for Xu Dongyou to enter, including the live streaming equipment he had brought with him.

Xu Dongyou’s arrival was like a stimulant for everyone; the fear and anxiety dissipated and they were eager to know how the Anomaly Handling Bureau planned to rescue them.

Xu Dongyou said, “Everyone, return to your seats. For now, I can’t let you leave. Once I seal the spirit, the plane can resume normal operations.”

“Why can’t we leave?” a passenger complained.

Xu Dongyou noticed that this person was tainted with a hint of the spirit’s power. He replied, “Because there’s a spirit on this plane, and its power has already infected you all. If you leave, it could lead to uncontrollable dangers.”

As Xu Dongyou displayed a stern expression, he no longer appeared easy to bully; instead, it instilled a sense of fear. The passenger quickly became anxious, assuring him that he would cooperate.

The others followed suit.

Xu Dongyou activated his heightened senses and immediately noticed someone in one of the seats. This person sat quietly, unlike the others who were animated, and most importantly, a dense gray mist surrounded him.

This was the spirit’s true form.

However, that wasn’t enough; Xu Dongyou needed to find the spirit’s object. Only by sealing that item could he weaken the spirit’s power and then seal the spirit itself.

He surveyed the surroundings carefully until he stopped at a specific spot.

Moonlit: Could it be that scene from the description? Where he transform into his original form while live streaming? HAHAHAHHAA
