INHA Chapter 46

The girl is in coma

At that moment, Tian Ze sent a message saying that Guoguo’s situation was a bit complicated and asked Xu Dongyou to bring the stuffed bear to the hospital as soon as possible.

Xu Dongyou and Lin Jingyun immediately set off for the hospital. On the way, Xu Dongyou held the camera in his palm and glanced at the comments in the livestream chat.

Most of the comments were criticizing the live stream’s script as overly dramatic and complained that the special effects didn’t meet their expectations, not even matching the previous monster fish video. Some were asking if they had changed the special effects team.

Xu Dongyou felt a bit helpless about this since there wasn’t a special effects team—everything was real.

He knew that even if he explained this to the viewers, it probably wouldn’t have much impact. The main reason was that most people subconsciously believed that supernatural events don’t exist in the real world. Even if they did, people would think they were fake.

If there were an official confirmation, there would still be doubts, but it wouldn’t be like now, where everyone thought it was fake and were critiquing the special effects for not being spectacular enough.

However, this reaction was exactly what the authorities wanted to see.

If the authorities officially confirmed it, it could cause significant public unrest, especially among ordinary people with less stable mental states, leading to fear and anxiety. This could disturb the human race’s collective fate, something neither the demons nor the Bureau wanted.

Therefore, everything had to proceed gradually.

So Xu Dongyou wasn’t in a hurry; he would work hard at his job, subtly helping people to calmly accept all this.

It wasn’t rush hour, so it took only ten minutes for Xu Dongyou and Lin Jingyun to arrive at the hospital.

At the door of one of the rooms in the inpatient building, two police officers were stationed, while some nurses were chatting quietly in the distance, casting curious glances.

Zhao Jia, a nurse, glanced at the police at the door, feeling puzzled and concerned.

She was specifically responsible for the patient in this room, a very cute and well-behaved four-year-old girl. Zhao Jia would often secretly bring her a few candies, which would always be met with the girl’s sweet thanks.

She felt very sorry for the girl, who had a very strange condition. The girl would inexplicably fall into a coma, during which she couldn’t be awakened by any means, even though her breathing remained steady.

The longest coma lasted over a month, requiring nasal feeding. During these comas, her body would become extremely weak. Even a small cold could nearly kill her, leading to several ICU admissions.

Oddly enough, the girl would suddenly wake up and behave completely normally. The hospital had held many meetings and conducted numerous tests on her, but so far, there was no treatment available. They could only use conventional methods to sustain her life.

However, it was strange that every time the little girl’s father came, she would wake up shortly afterward.

Some people said it was because the girl subconsciously wanted her father to be there, as there are many examples of the human spirit’s power to create miracles. For instance, years ago, there was a story of a woman abroad who, in a moment of crisis, lifted a car with her bare hands to save her child. When she tried again later, she found she couldn’t budge the car at all.

This is an example of the extraordinary strength generated by mental power in a critical moment, which can be considered a miracle.

But Zhao Jia still felt something was off. From the little girl’s behavior when she was awake, it was clear she was more attached to her mother and not very close to her father. However, since everyone was saying that, Zhao Jia kept her doubts to herself.

While taking a break during her shift change, Zhao Jia browsed Weibo and quickly noticed a trending topic. She softly exclaimed in surprise, as she had seen this trending topic before and was shocked at the time. The special effects were so realistic that she almost believed they were real, not realizing it was all a production by a livestream platform.

Now, there was a follow-up to this trending topic. The official blog posted a live stream link, indicating that a live broadcast was currently ongoing.

She didn’t click on it right away but looked at the comments on the topic. Many people expressed disappointment that the special effects in the live stream weren’t as good as those in the previous monster fish video, although they liked the storyline. Some felt the ending was a letdown, while others joked that the spooky theme might turn into a “Scientific Inquiry” episode.

Growing more curious, Zhao Jia clicked on the live stream link. She noticed something strange: she could see the faces of the man and woman in the stream, but she couldn’t remember them moments later. It was odd; she could see their eyes and expressions clearly, yet couldn’t recall their faces.

This couldn’t just be explained as special effects, right?

Zhao Jia’s interest grew. She quickly gathered from the comments that the streamer and his partner were from a certain bureau handling a paranormal incident involving a doll shop owner. It turned out that a competitor was trying to scare the shop owner by having their daughter possess a doll, attempting to ruin the business. The storyline had reached the point where the streamer and his partner discovered that the little girl wasn’t a ghost but was being controlled by her father using a small flag. They were now heading to the hospital to find the girl.

The doll in the streamer’s arms was the little girl in question.

Zhao Jia considered exiting the live stream because the storyline was a bit dull and uninspiring, especially knowing it was all scripted and fake. She felt her break time could be better spent on something more interesting.

Just as Zhao Jia was about to click the exit button, the streamer and his partner arrived at the hospital. The hospital was an elegant and unique building located in a bustling area, with a nearby mall and a sculpture visible in the distance.

She froze for a moment, feeling like she had seen this place somewhere before.

As the streamer and the doll shop owner quickly ran into the hospital and headed straight to the inpatient department, she felt an overwhelming sense of familiarity. It was as if the truth was wrapped in a thin layer of plastic wrap, just waiting to be pierced for the truth to be revealed.

She even felt a sense of urgency.

In the footage, the streamer and the doll shop owner were heading to the third floor, finally stopping in front of a nurse who was looking down at her phone.

“Excuse me, may I ask something?” came a pleasant male voice in her ears.

Simultaneously, the same phrase echoed in the live stream, “Excuse me, may I ask something?”

Zhao Jia’s mind went blank as she instinctively looked up and saw an extraordinarily beautiful face. The young man was strikingly handsome, with delicate and elegant features. His eyes sparkled as if they were filled with starlight.

Pure and clean.

Those were the words that instantly came to her mind.

At the same time, the young man glanced at the screen of Zhao Jia’s phone, seeing the live stream.

Zhao Jia, feeling inexplicably flustered, blushed deeply and quickly put her phone away.

Xu Dongyou withdrew his gaze and softly asked again, “Excuse me, there’s a four-year-old girl named Guoguo in Room 6. Can you tell us how to get there?”

Guoguo?

Guoguo?!!!

Zhao Jia’s eyes widened in shock. She felt a shiver run through her entire being. She quickly stood up and said, “I’ll take you there.”

She was so nervous and excited that she barely felt her legs, but she managed to lead the two of them to Guoguo’s room, only to find that the two policemen at the door were not allowing anyone to enter.

Including doctors and nurses.

“But they’re not letting anyone in right now,” Zhao Jia quickly told the two.

Unexpectedly, the door to the room suddenly opened, revealing a somewhat fierce-looking face. The person immediately waved them in, saying, “Come in quickly. We’ve been waiting for you to bring the doll bear.”

Xu Dongyou nodded at Zhao Jia, “Thank you.”

Lin Jingyun quickly asked, “What about me? Can I go in and see as well?”

“No, our chief is inside,” Tian Ze answered before Xu Dongyou could respond, firmly denying her request.

Lin Jingyun, though disappointed, nodded. “It’s okay, you should go in. The child’s safety is more important.”

Xu Dongyou nodded apologetically to Lin Jingyun before entering the ward. The door closed tightly behind him.

Lin Jingyun’s tense shoulders relaxed immediately. She found a chair to sit on and took out her phone. Even though she couldn’t go in, she could still follow what was happening in the ward through the live stream.

Zhao Jia finally seemed to snap out of her daze and also pulled out her phone.

【This production is impressive. The location is definitely a hospital. But that little nurse was funny, caught watching the stream by the streamer! Hahaha.】

【The nurse probably didn’t expect to see herself on the stream! I’m curious if she’ll comment on the stream, telling us how it felt.】

【I’m more curious about those actors playing the police. Do they feel awkward standing there? But isn’t the hospital worried about this? Allowing a girl pretending to be sick to stay in the hospital?】

Zhao Jia’s hands were trembling as she read the live stream comments. Her mind was almost unable to process her thoughts.

How could this be such a coincidence?

Was that stuffed bear really Guoguo? This live stream was clearly scripted, so why did it seem to align with reality?

Suddenly, Zhao Jia remembered the man who always visited Guoguo. He always carried a black bag. She had accidentally seen him take out a small flag from it once.

The flag was white, with unsettling red symbols on it.

Coincidentally, the live stream also mentioned a competing shop owner using a flag to control the little girl to scare the doll shop owner.

Could it be… could it all be true?

If it was, then every time Guoguo fell unconscious, was it because her spirit was inhabiting the stuffed bear?

Zhao Jia’s hands trembled more violently as she considered this, feeling a chilling sensation as the thought took root. She could barely hold onto her phone.

Lin Jingyun was startled by Zhao Jia’s reaction and quickly asked, “Are you okay?”

Zhao Jia looked up abruptly, stammering, “It’s all real, isn’t it? This isn’t fake, right?”

Lin Jingyun was momentarily taken aback.

Zhao Jia continued, almost incoherently, “I know that little girl, Guoguo. I’m the one in charge of her case. She’s been in a coma for the past two months, do you understand?”

Before Lin Jingyun could respond, Zhao Jia clutched her chest and muttered to herself, “Oh my god. No wonder in the past two months, Guoguo was so happy whenever she woke up, saying she’d been to a fun place. I thought she was dreaming. No wonder we couldn’t wake her up—her consciousness or soul was in another place.”

This revelation completely shattered her worldview. It was so unbelievable that she could hardly find the words to describe it.
