INHA Chapter 47

Touching

Before coming to the hospital, Lin Jingyun had already believed in the two people claiming to be from the handling bureau, though she still harbored a small sliver of doubt. However, Zhao Jia’s testimony seemed to eliminate that doubt completely.

It turned out that the world was not as ordinary and mundane as it seemed. Beneath the surface of everyday life, there existed things that one might only expect to find in novels. For example, there was a bureau specifically responsible for handling all abnormal events, and its agents, equipped with various skills, took on risks and crises, silently protecting the world.

Until two months ago, Lin Jingyun had never heard of such an organization. But now, the handling bureau was no longer hiding, choosing to inform the public through educational live streams that the world was not as ordinary or safe as people thought.

Lin Jingyun felt an inexplicable sense of impending crisis.

Xu Dongyou, after entering the room, stood quietly without letting the camera capture anyone else in the room.

The chief glanced in the direction of the camera. Although he couldn’t see it, he could sense its presence. He then turned his gaze back to Xu Dongyou and said, “You can continue the live stream; I’ve already discussed this with Mrs. Feng. She has agreed to the live streaming.”

Mrs. Feng, the mother of the four-year-old girl lying on the hospital bed, was sitting beside the bed. She looked very weary as if she had just been crying, with red eyes fixed on her daughter.

The little girl was extremely cute. Despite her pale complexion, it was evident that her mother had taken good care of her.

Xu Dongyou then adjusted the camera to capture the entire room.

Tian Ze turned his head and quickly explained to Xu Dongyou what had happened earlier: “Chen Dachao came to the hospital, trying to forcibly summon the girl’s soul back. Fortunately, the other officers and I managed to stop him in time and have temporarily detained him in the police car. Then I called the chief to help, as he’s the most familiar with handling this kind of situation.”

The chief ignored Tian Ze and instead reached out to Xu Dongyou. “Give me the doll.”

Xu Dongyou obediently handed it over.

In the live stream, the comments kept coming. However, most of the viewers’ attention was now focused on the chief. Even though he hadn’t done anything, his presence alone made the audience feel a distinct aura of authority through the screen.

It was likely the aura of a person in a high position.

The viewers were flooding the chat with messages like “6661a common internet slang in China indicating amazement or approval“.

【The actor playing the chief has a really commanding presence. They must have spent a lot to hire him.】

【Yeah, just seeing him gives me a weird sense of respect. It’s amazing.】

【This is probably what they call a natural talent. Some people just naturally exude a certain vibe, like they’re incredibly wealthy or powerful, even if they’re not. This guy definitely has that vibe. He’d be perfect for playing a high-ranking role.】

【That little actress is really cute, but she looks frighteningly thin. Is she actually sick?】

【I think she might be sick, too. Even though I can’t quite remember her face, you can see her pale complexion and those skinny arms. It’s like she’s just skin and bones. Is she really sick?】

【I still don’t quite understand what this live stream is aiming for. If it’s all scripted, why aren’t there more dramatic effects? But if it’s real, how do we explain the supernatural parts?】

“Is what you’re saying true? Can you really help wake Guoguo up?” Mrs. Feng forced herself to gather her strength and looked at Xu Dongyou, then at the chief. “And my husband, why did you arrest him?”

Her daughter’s comatose state had left Mrs. Feng so emotionally drained that she found it hard to get upset.

Her rational side told her that these so-called agents from the bureau might just be scammers, but emotionally, she couldn’t help but cling to this false hope.

She had no other options left.

Lin Jingyun, watching the live stream, empathized with the woman. She had been in a similar situation and had decided to take a chance. Fortunately, her gamble paid off.

She believed this Mrs. Feng would also find hope.

Beside her, Zhao Jia was also watching the livestream and suddenly turned to Lin Jingyun, asking, “Do you think they can really wake Guoguo up?”

“They will,” Lin Jingyun nodded.

“I think so too.” Zhao Jia smiled. She knew better than anyone how much Mrs. Feng had suffered and how painful it had been for her.

Fortunately, the suffering was about to end.

In the hospital room, the chief calmly watched Mrs. Feng and said, “You’ll know the answer soon enough.”

As he spoke, he looked down at the teddy bear and removed a bullet embedded in it. The bear moved slightly, and its blood-red eyes seemed to come alive, suddenly turning to Mrs. Feng and making a mechanical sound, “Mom…”

The live stream viewers were startled, flooding the chat with comments, some saying there should have been a warning for such a high-energy scene, while others mentioned they almost dropped their phones.

【This is too much. I was on the toilet you know. It scared me so much I almost fell off QAQ.】

【Hahaha.】

【Finally, some special effects again! It looks so real. The eyes suddenly felt like they had a soul in them.】

【+1】

Mrs. Feng was also startled, but since it was broad daylight and there were two police officers outside the door, she quickly calmed down and became even angrier.

Guoguo was still lying in the hospital bed, yet they brought in a teddy bear and had it call her “mom”. It was an extremely cruel joke. No matter how good her temper was, she couldn’t tolerate it.

“Mrs. Feng, please calm down. Why don’t you try talking to the teddy bear?” Xu Dongyou suggested softly.

Mrs. Feng looked upset, but her good manners prevented her from saying anything harsh.

“Mom… don’t be sad.” The teddy bear’s head turned again, emitting a mechanical voice.

Though the tone was mechanical and cold, everyone present, even the livestream viewers, could eerily sense the urgency in the voice.

Mrs. Feng’s eyes blurred for a moment.

This was what Guoguo would say every time she woke up. She would reach out her hand, wipe away her mother’s tears, and gently comfort her.

How could heaven be so cruel to let such an obedient and well-behaved child suffer like this? She wished she could bear all the suffering in Guoguo’s place.

Mrs. Feng’s eyes reddened uncontrollably as she held Guoguo’s hand lying on the hospital bed, her voice choked with sobs. “My Guoguo, please wake up. Mommy misses you so much.”

“I’m here, Mommy… Guoguo is here.” The teddy bear urgently shook its head. Soon, its limbs began to move as well.

The talisman attached to it started to burn away, eventually disappearing completely.

Xu Dongyou didn’t understand why the chief didn’t just remove the talisman, but he soon realized the reason.

The teddy bear frantically shook its limbs and then turned its head towards the chief, saying, “Let me go!”

The chief remained calm, holding onto the teddy bear. “Then try to get back into your body from the bear.”

The teddy bear struggled even more violently. In the blurry view, Xu Dongyou vaguely saw what seemed to be a translucent soul struggling inside the teddy bear, seemingly trying to break free.

Xu Dongyou was stunned and turned to look at Tian Ze.

Tian Ze responded, “I saw it too.”

Mrs. Feng’s sobbing stopped abruptly as she stared in disbelief at the teddy bear. The translucent soul trying to escape from it looked exactly like her Guoguo.

The teddy bear’s voice was filled with tears, “Mommy, I can’t get out.”

Mrs. Feng, panicking, glanced at her unmoving child on the bed and then at the crying soul. She couldn’t tell if this was real or not. The motherly instinct took over. She rushed over to try to hold Guoguo’s hand. “Don’t be afraid, Mommy is here.”

However, a soul couldn’t physically interact with a real body. Mrs. Feng’s hand passed through, touching nothing.

“She’s in an out-of-body state right now, so you can’t touch her, but you can keep encouraging her. If she can get most of her soul out, I can separate her completely from the teddy bear,” the captain explained in a still very calm tone.

Mrs. Feng didn’t care whether the captain was telling the truth or not. Tears streaming down her face, she nodded frantically. “Okay, okay, Guoguo, you are Mommy’s precious little baby. You can come out on your own, right? Mommy is here with you.”

Guoguo cried out in pain, “It hurts, Mommy, it hurts so much. I don’t want to stay inside the teddy bear anymore.”

Hearing this, Mrs. Feng felt as if her heart was being torn apart. She knew she couldn’t touch her child’s hand, but she kept trying over and over. “Guoguo, my Guoguo.”

“This won’t work,” Tian Ze, a grown man, couldn’t help but sniffle, shaking his head with a sigh.

It was all that scumbag Chen Dachao’s fault for binding the child’s soul to the teddy bear. When he resisted arrest, he broke the flag, making any method of extraction useless because the flag was destroyed.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have needed to ask the chief for help.

The livestream viewers, even knowing it was all scripted and fake, were still moved to tears by the scene.

【Ah, this is so heartbreaking. My tears are cheap; please change the script. It’s too painful.】

【Please let Guoguo go back to her body! QAQ I’ve already used three tissues from crying.】

【The special effects are amazing! But the acting is so good, I’m almost in tears.】

Mrs. Feng cried hysterically, but Guoguo, feeling more concerned for her mother, tried to wipe away Mrs. Feng’s tears despite the pain. Her little hand passed through Mrs. Feng’s face, and she sobbed softly, “Mommy, don’t cry. It doesn’t hurt anymore.”

Hearing this, Mrs. Feng felt even more distressed, nearly fainting from the pain.

“Chief, is there really no other way?” Xu Dongyou, unable to bear the scene any longer, had tears in his eyes.

The chief nodded, still speaking calmly. “The child needs to get at least half of her soul out for me to put her back in her body.”

There was no other way.

If he didn’t act, this child might be stuck in the teddy bear’s body forever.

Xu Dongyou, eyes brimming with tears, instinctively reached out to hold Guoguo’s hand, and then he grabbed it.

The chief’s calm expression cracked instantly.

Tian Ze’s mouth fell open slightly. He suddenly looked at Xu Dongyou with an expression of deep respect, thinking this was beyond belief.

Xu Dongyou was also stunned, his voice filled with a bit of fear. “Chief, I… I think I grabbed her.”
