INHA Chapter 79

Mysterious Monster

At that moment, Xu Dongyou contacted Tian Ze and informed him that he had found the evil object. He then told Tian Ze that the evil ghost could now be dealt with.

Tian Ze replied that the evil ghost had just disappeared, which was somewhat unusual compared to past incidents. However, he didn’t rule out the possibility that this presence could only manifest through people’s illusions, which might explain why it vanished after the object was sealed.

Xu Dongyou immediately said that he would return quickly.

After hanging up the phone, Tian Ze, just in case, instructed everyone to stay put and avoid overthinking, to prevent the evil ghost from returning.

Although the possibility was very slim, when it comes to evil ghosts, unexpected changes can always occur so they couldn’t be taken lightly.

Not long after, Xu Dongyou drove back to the police station. After activating his heightened senses and searching carefully, he didn’t find any traces related to the evil ghost.

This confirmed that the evil ghost had indeed disappeared.

Tian Ze then informed the police station and the two victims that the crisis had been resolved. He also proceeded to ask the two victims for more details about the incident.

Xiao Shan remembered something: Ah Tao once mentioned that when he took Zhao Mingming to play in the sea, Zhao Mingming confidently claimed to have seen someone drowning, but Ah Tao didn’t see anything.

At the time, they all thought Zhao Mingming was experiencing hallucinations due to stress. In hindsight, it was likely that the evil ghost had already set its sights on them from that moment.

After hearing this, the old policeman pondered for a moment and said, “So, the female victim named Zhao Mingming was probably the first to see the evil ghost, and then her imagination filled in the details, creating the scene where it started killing?”

Tian Ze nodded, “Exactly. The evil object this time was actually a wig. The victim Zhao Mingming imagined it as a drowning person, and then further imagined it as a ghost that started killing. This is how the killing rule was established.”

What’s more terrifying is that the killing rule of this evil ghost is extremely broad.

For example, if these police officers, after hearing Xiao Shan’s story about the water ghost, went home and started imagining it, the ghost might follow them home and begin its slaughter, dooming the entire family.

At this point, Xiao Shan wasn’t sure whether to be grateful that he survived or to resent Zhao Mingming for imagining such a terrifying scenario. But when he remembered that she was already dead, he found it impossible to hold a grudge.

At least he and his girlfriend survived.

Afterward, the police, along with Xu Dongyou and the others, went to the villa area and found Zhao Mingming’s body. Her death was horrifying, clearly caused by drowning.

They then found Ah Tao near the villa, who had also drowned. His death was even more terrifying than the first female victim, causing a chill to run down the spines of the police officers.

After the situation was resolved, Tian Ze handed over the follow-up of these victims to the relevant department for handling. Meanwhile, the police officers became increasingly aware of the importance of the official live stream channel, secretly vowing to watch it without fail in the future.

Right, they should also make sure their family, friends, and those in other police stations watch it as well. Although they can’t learn the extraordinary abilities of the handlers, at least they can gain more understanding about evil ghosts.

They can’t afford to just wait for death if they really encounter one. After all, not everyone can immediately sense useful information like the old policeman did and figure out a way to survive and understand the rules.

Since it was too late when Xu Dongyou arrived at the handling bureau, he didn’t do a live stream. However, he did provide a rough description of the incident, which was then written up and posted on the official live stream website by the bureau.

Whether the audience believes it or not, in the future, this incident will surely stick in their minds, serving as a precaution.

After wrapping things up, Xu Dongyou considered going home but decided against it, fearing he might disturb his parents. Instead, he found a hotel to stay in temporarily and made plans with Tian Ze to have a meal together the next day.

In the following days, no new ghost incidents occurred. Xu Dongyou decided to spend his time, apart from attending school, visiting the sealing array at the bureau to check on Zhulong.

Zhulong had fallen asleep yesterday, but just before it did, Xu Dongyou arrived at the sealing array and kept it company. They watched several episodes of educational tutorials tailored by the handling bureau. Xu Dongyou also brought in some beef and water.

Since Xu Dongyou started accompanying Zhulong from time to time and Zhulong began learning, it no longer seemed as frenzied as before. Though its gaze still held a trace of madness, Xu Dongyou believed it still had the ability to think.

After some simple initial communication, Xu Dongyou made Zhulong understand that the large pieces of beef and water were for it to consume. Zhulong no longer tried to feed the beef to Xu Dongyou. Instead, it gently opened its mouth and easily swallowed the beef, followed by drinking some water.

Zhulong seemed much more relaxed than at the beginning. It remained coiled up, its eyes half-closed, giving off an unusually lazy vibe.

Xu Dongyou looked up at Zhulong and couldn’t help but smile. Everything was moving in a positive direction. He believed that one day, Zhulong would gradually regain all its sanity, and then it would be able to leave the sealing array.

The sealing array was indeed mysterious; the angrier and more violent Zhulong became, the more it was unable to leave the array and would be restrained. But when its emotions were no longer destructive or enraged, it could approach the fourth gate of the array, although it still couldn’t fully escape.

When it was time for Zhulong to sleep again, it was reluctant to close its eyes and kept them open despite the drowsiness. Xu Dongyou noticed this and gently comforted it, persuading it to sleep.

He even promised Zhulong that he would visit it in the array as often as possible and asked that it not attack the sealing array upon waking.

Zhulong responded with a meaningless sound, then looked at Xu Dongyou with a puzzled expression before lightly nodding its head.

Xu Dongyou immediately flashed a big smile, which seemed to relax Zhulong even more, and it quickly fell asleep.

Xu Dongyou waited a while to make sure Zhulong was truly asleep before leaving. After that, he returned to his usual routine of commuting between two points in his life.

Every day, Xu Dongyou attended school, dedicating the rest of his time to studying. During this period, he began learning a new spell because the water-repelling technique he had been using sometimes proved ineffective on land.

After careful consideration, Jiu Chao decided to teach Xu Dongyou a technique that was highly suitable for land-based combat—Earth Manipulation.

With this technique, anything related to land could be controlled. The more demon power one possessed, the stronger the power of Earth Manipulation would become.

For instance, one could manipulate soil or rocks, as rocks are considered a part of the earth. Only minerals like gold belong to the metal attribute.

Although Earth Manipulation might seem basic, it, like the water-repelling technique, is a growth-oriented spell. When mastered to the highest level and supported by sufficient demon power, it can be just as formidable as any other powerful technique.

However, since birds are naturally more aligned with the wood element, using Earth Manipulation was somewhat challenging for Xu Dongyou. As a result, Jiu Chao also taught him Wood Manipulation, which is similar to Earth Manipulation and part of the same category of techniques.

However, the wood element can only control attributes related to wood. Xu Dongyou mastered it in just a few days. From then on, he would need to rely on practice to gradually increase the power of Wood Manipulation.

At the beginner level, Wood Manipulation couldn’t create plants out of thin air, and Xu Dongyou’s current ability wasn’t strong enough. So, he went to the flower and bird market to buy some plant seeds, specifically those of vines and thorny ironwood. These plants are not only sturdy but also grow extremely fast.

Using such plants would also require less demon power than others.

Xu Dongyou carefully placed all the seeds in his backpack, making sure to include a bottle of mineral water, just in case.

Besides that, he also needed to practice his flying ability, which he could do by transforming into his true form within the sealing array.

The array provided a large space, and he didn’t have to worry about being seen.

His strength grew day by day. Although his flying speed wasn’t as fast as other birds, the constant improvement gave him great joy.

In the blink of an eye, half a month had passed. During this time, the popularity of the official live stream remained high online, but many people were curious as to why there hadn’t been a broadcast in two weeks.

In a certain residential area, a mother with a one-year-old child suddenly woke from sleep to the sound of crying. Thinking it was her child, she immediately got up, only to see a pair of eyes full of bloodlust and animalistic hunger, drooling and pressed against the window.

She screamed in terror.

The monster immediately smashed through the glass and charged inside, wrapping its tail around her and swallowing her whole. Her husband, awakened by the noise, witnessed the horrifying scene and desperately scrambled out of bed to escape.

The monster chased after him and devoured him as well. Meanwhile, their elderly neighbor, who had also woken up and opened her door, was similarly consumed by the creature.

After satisfying its hunger, the monster didn’t attack any other residents in the building and instead left the area.

A resident downstairs, who happened to be awake, heard the commotion from above and quickly looked out the window, catching a glimpse of the departing creature.

Even in the darkness, the general shape of the monster was visible. It was pitch black, covered in ominous scales, with thick limbs, a long tail lined with barbs, and horns on its forehead resembling those of a deer. However, instead of the deer’s graceful charm, these horns made the creature look particularly menacing.

At first glance, it exuded an instinctive sense of danger and ferocity. The creature’s cry was equally unsettling, eerily similar to the wail of an infant.

Terrified, the resident’s legs gave out and he collapsed to the floor.

Soon after, in the early hours of the morning, an emergency call was made, alarming all the police.

A man reported that a monster had appeared in their neighborhood and had devoured an entire family upstairs, sparing only the baby. The young couple and the elderly woman had all been eaten.

His voice was filled with terror and fear as he urgently pleaded for the police to come quickly.
