IMAO Chapter 12

A Proper Alpha Doesn't Mess with Betas

“Who’s this? Someone proposing to you?” Ji Rong’s eyes narrowed, his voice low and husky. It grazed Jiang Yuan’s eardrum like ghostly, seductive fingers, gentle yet hiding a potential danger. A hint of Alpha pheromones emanated from him.

Ji Rong rested his head on Jiang Yuan’s neck, his body exuding a potent Alpha scent that nearly overwhelmed Jiang Yuan.

In truth, Jiang Yuan didn’t dislike Ji Rong’s pheromones, but whenever Ji Rong got close, his body would heat up, and his heart would race. He wasn’t fond of this sensation—it felt like…

An Omega’s instinctive reaction to an Alpha.

Jiang Yuan pushed Ji Rong’s head away, quickly distancing himself. He wiped his face where Ji Rong’s forehead had touched and asked, “What does it have to do with you?”

Seeing Jiang Yuan’s actions, Ji Rong felt awful. The disgust was too obvious; he couldn’t even find a way to rationalize it!

“We’re classmates. Can’t I show some concern?”

Ji Rong regretted his words immediately. The excuse was flimsy, and he couldn’t understand why someone proposing to Jiang Yuan bothered him…

Thinking of this, Ji Rong stared at Jiang Yuan. Perhaps it was because of yesterday’s dream—all thanks to Jiang Yuan answering the door in just a towel!

Their classmates started teasing.

“Come on, Jiang Yuan, tell us who it is!”

“Yeah, someone said they want to marry you after graduation!”

“Hehe, could it be your boyfriend?”

Jiang Yuan felt a headache coming on at the thought of Song Yirui’s face. Seeing his classmates’ excitement, he realized Song Yirui wasn’t really the problem—the issue was that he had taken over the original owner’s body!

Thinking about breaking up with Song Yirui, he felt it would be unfair to the other party. If he were in Song Yirui’s shoes, he’d struggle to accept it too.

After some consideration, Jiang Yuan decided there was no need to lie, even if he planned to break up with Song Yirui. He simply admitted, “Yes, it’s my boyfriend.”

“Oh—” his classmates probed further, “Is he a little Omega?”

Jiang Yuan cleared his throat, making a fist. “He’s an Alpha.”

“Holy sh*t…”

Jiang Yuan faintly heard someone exclaim in the crowd. All eyes were on him, sizing him up.

Jiang Yuan shrugged, leaving the playground with an indifferent expression. His classmates walked away, discussing what Jiang Yuan had just revealed.

“Damn, Jiang Yuan’s so impressive. I thought he’d go for a pretty little Omega or an ordinary Beta. Never expected he’d be with an Alpha!”

“Maybe the guy’s pretty amazing too?”

“Could be. Wonder if he’s from our school.”

The classmates excitedly discussed, while Ji Rong’s face darkened. Seeing ‘Song Yirui’ propose to Jiang Yuan was one thing, but he had assumed the other was a pretty little Omega. To find out he was an Alpha?!

Ji Rong’s mind was suddenly filled with images of a pregnant Jiang Yuan, leaving him horrified!

A pregnant Jiang Yuan…

Damn!

A pregnant Beta monster—no, no, no. The mere thought made Ji Rong shudder.

Meanwhile, Jiang Yuan returned to his dorm and got his newly delivered school uniform. He quickly closed the door behind him.

Earlier, when Ji Rong got close, his body heated up again, and he felt a little uncomfortable. This sensation was troubling!

Jiang Yuan took out his communicator and searched about body heat issues.

He found an anonymous forum discussing ABO genders and immediately posted anonymously.

OP: I’m a Beta, but today when an Alpha touched me, my body heated up…

Floor 1: “Bro, that’s not possible. Next!”

Floor 2: “I know this one! The feeling you’re describing is exactly like an Omega’s reaction to an Alpha’s touch. I’m an Omega, so I can speak to this.
While your situation is rare, it’s not unheard of. My cousin’s gender differentiation was late. Everyone thought he was a Beta until his 18th birthday when he went into heat! On his birthday! It was terrifying. If my uncle hadn’t reacted quickly, who knows what might have happened! Be careful, OP!”

Floor 3: “I’ve heard of what the second floor mentioned, but never seen it.”

Floor 4: “I’m a doctor. The second floor is correct, but it’s extremely rare—about one in every 300,000 Betas.”

OP: “No way…”

Floor 5: “Ahem, doctor here again. OP, does your body heat up and feel uncomfortable after an Alpha’s touch? If so, be very careful. It’s dangerous.”

Seeing these responses, Jiang Yuan briefly doubted his gender. After all, it was rare for AO parents to have a Beta child—possible, but extremely uncommon!

No, calm down. Jiang Yuan took a deep breath. After some thought, he put down his communicator and flung open the door. His classmates were returning, including Ji Rong.

Jiang Yuan glanced at Ji Rong, then bypassed him, grabbing a tall classmate he remembered from roll call as Arlo.

“Arlo, could you help me with something?” Jiang Yuan asked softly, holding the brown-haired Arlo’s hand.

Surprised, Arlo agreed readily. Jiang Yuan was the top student, and Arlo might need his help later. “Sure, what do you need?”

Jiang Yuan grabbed Arlo’s wrist and led him to his room. Ji Rong’s mouth twitched watching this. He was right there, yet Jiang Yuan sought someone else’s help?

They had known each other first, after all!

No, wait. Why was he upset? Wasn’t it better not to be bothered? He disliked trouble anyway!

Jiang Yuan pulled Arlo into his dorm and shut the door, leaving Ji Rong outside: …

“What exactly do you want me to do, Jiang Yuan?” Arlo asked, glancing around the neat room with its green plants.

Jiang Yuan looked at Arlo and said, “Could you release some Alpha pheromones…”

“What did you say?” Arlo asked, confused, thinking he had misheard.

Jiang Yuan nodded. “Don’t ask why, just help me out! Please release some pheromones here. I need to verify something important!”

Seeing Jiang Yuan’s serious expression, Arlo nodded. “I don’t know what you’re trying to verify, but whatever!”

Arlo released his pheromones. Jiang Yuan sniffed the air but felt no heat. He stepped closer to Arlo.

Arlo blushed, flustered. He covered his chest with his hand and whimpered, “I’m a proper Alpha. I don’t mess with Betas!”

Jiang Yuan: “…”

Pressing Arlo against the wall, Jiang Yuan realized his body showed no signs of heating up from contact with this Alpha. It seemed he had overthought things.

Although his body heated up around Ji Rong, there were no other symptoms like an Omega’s heat…

Jiang Yuan stepped back, releasing Arlo with a sigh of relief. He wasn’t a late-differentiating Omega, just a regular Beta. As for his body heating up around Ji Rong, perhaps it was just… the weather? Or because Ji Rong was attractive?

Jiang Yuan felt he might have figured it out. Though Ji Rong was quite annoying, his face did meet Jiang Yuan’s preferences—it was as if he was tailored to Jiang Yuan’s standards!

Too bad he was an Alpha. If he were a Beta or Omega, Jiang Yuan could consider it!

Arlo, released by Jiang Yuan, looked like a small Omega who’d just been bullied by an Alpha. He turned and fled the room. As the door opened, a strong wave of Alpha pheromones rushed out.

Ji Rong, still outside, once again questioned reality: What was going on?!!!
