INC Chapter 66

After giving birth, Mu Wan went through the postpartum recovery period, which was quite an ordeal. The entire Liu family was focused on taking care of her, and at times, Mu Wan found it overwhelming. Fortunately, her health was good, and after a little over two months of postpartum care and recovery, her body was almost back to normal. Three months later, the household was reduced to just a nanny and a housekeeper to care for the baby.

Finally free from constant attention, Mu Wan stretched her body, feeling that the air itself smelled of freedom. She reached up and stretched, only to hear the little one on the bed making soft cooing noises. Mu Wan quickly put down her hands and hurried over to the crib.

Before Liu Anzhi was born, Liu Qianxiu had already arranged for a nursery to be set up next to their bedroom. Initially, the night nurse was the one getting up to take care of Liu Anzhi, but Mu Wan, feeling an instinctive connection with her daughter, would wake up whenever the baby stirred. Eventually, she decided to move into the nursery, and naturally, Liu Qianxiu followed suit.

Once they both moved in, Mu Wan found herself sleeping more soundly with the sweet smell of her baby nearby. Eventually, it was Liu Qianxiu who would get up at night, taking care of both Mu Wan and Liu Anzhi. However, Liu Anzhi was an exceptionally well-behaved baby and rarely woke up during the night, allowing Liu Qianxiu to get a full night’s sleep.

“My baby, who are you calling?” Mu Wan walked along the edge of the crib to the nursery. She leaned down slightly, speaking softly. As soon as she spoke, the little one in the crib broke into a smile.

When Liu Anzhi was first born, her skin was wrinkled, and to others, she might have seemed rather unattractive. But at three months old, she had grown taller, her skin was now snow-white, and she had a full head of black hair. Her double eyelids framed a pair of large, dark eyes. With chubby cheeks, a small nose, and a delicate mouth, even as a baby, it was clear she was exceptionally beautiful.

In addition to being beautiful, Liu Anzhi had a very pleasant temperament. Mu Wan barely had to coax her, and the little one would immediately wave her arms and laugh out loud.

The sound of the baby’s laughter was filled with a milky sweetness. Mu Wan felt both her spirit and body invigorated with energy. She couldn’t help but smile as she scooped Liu Anzhi into her arms.

Her daughter was just too adorable!

Unaware of what her mother was thinking, Liu Anzhi beamed as she was lifted into Mu Wan’s arms. With her soft little fingers, she reached up to touch her mother’s cheek. Mu Wan gently opened her mouth to nibble on her daughter’s fingers, making Liu Anzhi giggle even more.

Her daughter was so well-behaved—aside from eating and sleeping, she was always smiling. Taking care of her was a joy, and even doing nothing but spending time with her felt fulfilling and fun to Mu Wan.

After playing with the little one for a while, Mu Wan glanced at the time—it was 3:00 PM. Liu Qianxiu should have just finished his surgery. She pulled out her phone, aimed the camera at her baby, and snapped her fingers softly.

Liu Anzhi’s black, grape-like eyes immediately focused on her mother’s hand. She stared intently at it until Mu Wan suddenly peeked out from behind the phone and playfully teased her with a “Hey there!” The little one’s mouth curved into a crescent moon as she smiled broadly, waving her tiny arms and making happy baby noises.

“Ah!” Mu Wan’s heart melted once more. She put down the phone and immediately leaned in to kiss her baby on the cheek. Her daughter’s soft cheeks were so tender that Mu Wan’s lips sank into them. Liu Anzhi giggled again as her mother kissed her.

Mu Wan then stood up, sending the short video she had just recorded. She lay down beside Liu Anzhi, and the two of them took a selfie together, both sporting puppy-dog eyes and smiling with crescent-moon smiles.

After snapping the photo, Mu Wan sent it to Liu Qianxiu with the caption: “Sending Daddy a heart.”

In less than half a minute, Liu Qianxiu replied.

[Daoist Liu: Two little flowers.]

Seeing his reply, Mu Wan felt a sweet warmth in her heart. She rolled over and began typing on her phone, sending another message.

[Wooden Bowl: One big and one small, both belong to you.]

The message was quickly replied to, and the phone vibrated slightly as Liu Qianxiu looked at it. The screen displayed Mu Wan’s reply, and his eyes softened as a small smile tugged at the corner of his lips.

Just after finishing surgery, Liu Qianxiu was called by Xiao Tan for a meeting. The two of them walked down the hospital corridor together. Liu Qianxiu’s tall and commanding presence naturally drew attention, and the subtle change in his expression was immediately noticed by those around him.

Nearby, a group of nurses glanced over, their eyes lighting up in unison. Xiao Tan didn’t think it was his charm that had caught their attention. He looked sideways at Liu Qianxiu, who had just let the small smile slip as he focused on his phone, responding to the message.

Liu Qianxiu rarely looked at his phone, let alone while walking. Xiao Tan’s curiosity was piqued. As they reached the conference room door, he put down his documents and asked, “What are you looking at?”

It was only then that Liu Qianxiu briefly shifted his attention. However, it was just a brief glance before his focus returned to the phone. The meeting hadn’t started yet, so there was no rush, and after sending off one last message, Liu Qianxiu answered, “Just looking at some photos.”

As soon as Liu Qianxiu mentioned photos, Xiao Tan understood. Liu Qianxiu had just become a father a few months ago. Xiao Tan, being his senior, had already visited the newborn. The little girl was charming and lively, her smile especially enchanting—just like her mother.

Remembering this, Xiao Tan felt a bit curious himself. Leaning back in his chair, he moved closer and said, “Let me take a look too.”

As he came over, Liu Qianxiu glanced at him, and Xiao Tan quickly laughed, saying, “Come on, don’t be so stingy.”

Naturally, Liu Qianxiu wasn’t that stingy—photos of his daughter were fine, but those of his wife were off-limits. He saved the short video Mu Wan had just sent to his album and then opened it to show Xiao Tan.

Who could resist the smile of Liu Anzhi, the little baby? Absolutely no one!

Even Xiao Tan, the director of the hospital, was charmed by the smile and couldn’t help but smile back. The baby’s infectious energy was too strong. Unable to help himself, Xiao Tan replayed the video, and after watching it again, he patted Liu Qianxiu on the shoulder, reminding him, “With such a beautiful daughter, you’ll have a lot to worry about in the future.”

As Liu Qianxiu was about to put away his phone, Xiao Tan quickly interjected, “Let me watch it one more time.”

After replaying the video, Liu Qianxiu looked at Liu Anzhi and asked, “Worry about what?”

“Worry about the number of boys who’ll like her.” Xiao Tan said.

After watching the video one last time, Liu Qianxiu finally put away his phone, responding nonchalantly, “It’s still early.”

After spending some time with Liu Qianxiu, Mu Wan received a call from Lin Wei. Just as the nanny came in to feed Liu Anzhi, Mu Wan picked up her phone and went over to the window. The sun was shining brightly outside, making her squint as she answered the call.

Before she could say anything, she was greeted by the sound of a crying baby on the other end, followed by Lin Wei’s frantic attempts to soothe him. Mu Wan waited for her to calm him down before asking, “What’s wrong with little Hema?”

Little Hema was Lin Wei’s son’s nickname. His full name was Lu Yi He, and he was a month older than Liu Anzhi. Though he had given Lin Wei quite a bit of trouble during pregnancy, he had been very well-behaved since birth and rarely cried.

“What else could it be?” Lin Wei sighed. “He wants to go out and play. He’s such a good boy in every other way, but he’s got a wild streak. I can already tell he’s going to be a little troublemaker when he grows up.”

Mu Wan chuckled at Lin Wei’s tendency to see her son’s future so clearly, saying, “Then take him out to play. Why don’t you come over here? Anzhi will be napping after her feeding, and by the time you arrive, she should be awake.”

Lin Wei had called with the intention of visiting, so hearing Mu Wan’s suggestion, she didn’t hesitate. “Alright, I’ll pack up and head over.”

Though Lin Wei said she’d come over right away, travelling with a four-month-old baby wasn’t easy. Mu Wan waited at home for two hours before they arrived.

When Mu Wan went outside to greet them, Lu Yi He was already awake and staring intently at her. Lin Wei, who had just taken some things from the nanny, looked over at Mu Wan holding Lu Yi He and asked, “Where’s Anzhi?”

“She should be waking up soon.” Mu Wan replied. “Come on in.”

Lin Wei’s family was well-off, so they always had a driver and a nanny with them. After arriving at the nursery, the nanny set Lu Yi He down and then left the room.

Now it was just Lin Wei with her son and Mu Wan with her daughter in the nursery.

Hearing the commotion outside, Liu Anzhi woke up as well. Lin Wei and her son were frequent visitors, so she wasn’t a stranger to them. She opened her big eyes and looked over at Lin Wei. Lin Wei smiled, clapping her hands and saying,

“Our little Anzhi is awake, huh?”

Seeing her clap, Liu Anzhi’s eyes curved as she smiled.

Lin Wei was instantly smitten by Liu Anzhi’s smile. Clutching her chest, she couldn’t help but lean down to kiss the little one.

“Oh my, how can this baby be so smiley and so adorable?”

Lu Yi He wasn’t too happy about seeing his mom showering attention on another baby right in front of him. He made unhappy baby noises as he expressed his displeasure. Mu Wan chuckled, placing him on the bed, and teasingly pinched his little hand, saying, “How about your mommy gives you a little sister, Hema?”

“With a personality like Anzhi’s, do you think you can just wish for a baby like her and get one?” Lin Wei remarked. Liu Anzhi was truly a darling, not only because of her good looks but also because of her cheerful disposition.

Mu Wan was naturally pleased to hear her daughter praised. Seeing her smile, Lin Wei hesitated for a moment, then said, “Why not make her my daughter-in-law?”

“That’s a bit too much.” Mu Wan replied with a laugh. “Does your son agree with this? Are you just deciding on a daughter-in-law for him on your own?”

“Parent’s orders and matchmaker’s words—whether my son agrees or not doesn’t matter. The real question is whether your Daoist Liu agrees.” Lin Wei jokes, laughing as she lightly poked her son’s cheek. “Besides, our little Hema here is totally smitten with little angel Anzhi, aren’t you?”

Whatever his mother was saying, Lu Yi He didn’t understand a word. He only knew there was another baby nearby. Out of curiosity, Lu Yi He rolled over handsomely, lying on the bed and staring at Liu Anzhi beside him.

“Oh wow, little Hema is so good at rolling over.” Mu Wan couldn’t help but clap her hands.

Perhaps encouraged by her mother’s praise for another baby, Liu Anzhi wasn’t about to be outdone. She babbled something unintelligible as she began to wriggle.

“Look, look, Anzhi is going to roll over too.” Lin Wei said excitedly, watching Liu Anzhi closely and reminding Mu Wan, “Three months to roll over, six to sit, nine to crawl—she’s about to roll over any second now.”

A child’s every milestone brings immense joy to their parents. Mu Wan kept her eyes fixed on Liu Anzhi, watching as her little body wiggled. At first, she didn’t quite manage to roll over, and with a little “plop” she lay back down. But instead of being frustrated, she found it amusing and started giggling.

Meanwhile, Lu Yi He just lifted his head to watch, as if encouraging her, babbling a few sounds before lying back down beside her.

“Hey, hey, hey, don’t lie down! Show your little sister how it’s done!” Lin Wei urged, still eager to see Liu Anzhi roll over.

It seemed like Lu Yi He understood his mother’s words. With agility, he flipped over again, lifting his head to look at Liu Anzhi beside him.

Here we go again. Mu Wan’s heart raced with anticipation—maybe this time Anzhi would manage to roll over. Since Liu Qianxiu wasn’t around, she quickly pulled out her phone and started recording.

On the phone screen, Liu Anzhi lay there, watching her mother. Mu Wan met her gaze, smiling as she whispered, “Come on, baby, you can do it!”

Receiving her mother’s encouragement, Liu Anzhi babbled a few sounds, gathering her strength, and with a little grunt, she finally rolled over. She looked like a mochi dusted with powdered sugar, rolling right over Mu Wan’s heart, sweet enough to make Mu Wan momentarily speechless.

As soon as Liu Anzhi rolled over, she was face-to-face with Lu Yi He. The two babies stared at each other, big eyes meeting little eyes. Lu Yi He furrowed his tiny brows, while Liu Anzhi clenched her fists. Experiencing the world from this new perspective for the first time, she waved her little fists and laughed. As soon as she started laughing, Lu Yi He leaned in, opening his mouth to nibble on her.

“Hey, hey, hey!” Lin Wei exclaimed, laughing helplessly as she quickly scooped Lu Yi He up before he could plant a kiss on Liu Anzhi. Meanwhile, Mu Wan also picked up Liu Anzhi.

Lu Yi He didn’t understand what had just happened. He just continued babbling, still trying to get closer to Liu Anzhi. Lin Wei scolded him gently, “What are you doing? You have to ask a girl if it’s okay before you kiss her!”

After saying that, Lin Wei looked over at Mu Wan with an expression that said, “See, I told you so.” and added, “You see, this is what’s going to happen—he’s going to be a little rascal, already flirting at such a young age.”

The two women laughed together, holding their children.

By the time Liu Qianxiu returned home from the hospital, Lin Wei had already left. As soon as he walked in, Mu Wan called out to him, rushing over to greet him. Liu Qianxiu smiled and scooped her up into his arms.

After sharing a few kisses, Liu Qianxiu carried Mu Wan over to the crib. Liu Anzhi had just finished her milk and was fast asleep. The little one’s fists were clenched, her face peaceful.

His gaze softened as he looked at his daughter, and then he turned back to kiss Mu Wan again. Mu Wan giggled from the ticklish feeling and teasingly asked him if he had missed her today.

Since the birth of their child, the two had become even more affectionate with each other. Liu Qianxiu responded in a low voice, kissing her for a while longer before heading off to take a shower. Afterward, they both sat down for dinner.

Liu Anzhi, being the well-behaved baby she was, slept through her parent’s entire dinner. When she finally woke up and saw Liu Qianxiu, she smiled again, as if wanting him to hold her. To close the distance between herself and her father, she deftly rolled over. Even though Liu Qianxiu had already seen the video, witnessing her roll over in person made his eyes flicker with emotion.

After placing the little one back on the bed, Liu Qianxiu sat down beside her. Mu Wan knelt on the bed behind him, wrapping her arms around his neck as they watched Liu Anzhi roll over together.

It seemed like Liu Anzhi understood what her parents wanted, so she immediately rolled over again. Mu Wan let out a delighted “Oh my!” and clapped her hands in encouragement.

“You’re amazing, baby!”

Liu Anzhi looked at her mother’s clapping hands and smiled again. The lighting was soft, and her baby’s skin was rosy and fair. She was curled up there, her large dark eyes, small nose, and tiny lips looking both adorable and beautiful.

Mu Wan leaned against Liu Qianxiu’s head, laughing as she said, “Our daughter is so beautiful.”

Not wanting Liu Anzhi to get too tired, Liu Qianxiu gently picked her up, holding her close. As soon as he did, the familiar scent of milk wafted up. Liu Anzhi’s black, grape-like eyes gazed up at him, and she smiled again.

“Mm, she takes after you.” Liu Qianxiu said. “Today, Xiao Tan also complimented Anzhi.”

Mu Wan tilted her head, her eyes on Liu Qianxiu as she smiled and asked, “What did he say?”

“He said she’s beautiful.” Liu Qianxiu replied, adding, “and that I’ll have a lot to worry about with her in the future.”

Surprised that Xiao Tan would say something like that, Mu Wan let out a thoughtful “hmm” and asked, “And what did you say?”

“I said it’s still early.” Liu Qianxiu replied honestly. Even though Liu Anzhi was beautiful, she was still just a three-month-old baby.

“Oh~” Mu Wan dragged out the sound, her tone filled with endless implications. Hearing her response, Liu Qianxiu turned to look at her, leaning in to kiss her on the corner of her mouth.

Mu Wan smiled. “Lin Wei brought little Hema over today.”

Lin Wei was almost in the same stage of pregnancy as Mu Wan, and the two of them often met up, even after giving birth. Lin Wei frequently brought her son, Lu Yi He, to visit Mu Wan. Liu Qianxiu acknowledged this with a nod, not paying it much mind.

Seeing that his expression hadn’t changed, Mu Wan thought for a moment, organising her words before saying, “Well, little Hema kissed Anzhi.”

After saying this, she fell silent, watching him closely for his reaction. For the first time in what seemed like forever, Liu Qianxiu’s expression showed a hint of change.

He paused slightly in his embrace of their daughter, looking up at Mu Wan with a slight frown. He seemed uncertain as he asked in a low voice,

“What did you say?”
