IMC Chapter 12

The Magical Use of the Stone Staff

Coming out of Vidor’s tent, Shu Bao saw a woman and a child standing outside. It was clear that these two were Vidor’s family. At this moment, they looked nervous, a mix of fear and anticipation, as they gazed at Shu Bao and the high priest.

The high priest said that he had already used herbs and that as long as there was no fever tonight, Vidor would be fine soon. The mother and daughter quickly expressed their gratitude upon hearing this. The other members of the tribe, having received the answer, also left to rest.

Shu Bao did not return to the tent but went out again to look for some herbs to clear heat and detoxify. He had just seen that the high priest had only a few herbs, with no combinations. The efficacy of single herbs was quite limited.

Now, Shu Bao did not know the true strength of the Sishe Tribe and could not directly confront them. The only way was to quickly develop his own strength to have a foothold in the future.

The night was more mysterious and dangerous than the day, and Shu Bao had a new understanding of this bizarre world. There were many plants that glowed at night, mostly blue and green, and even many animals glowed.

Shu Bao saw translucent light blue butterflies, strange grass dancing in the moonlight, and giant frogs with glowing throats attracting insects.

Throughout his journey, Shu Bao remained highly vigilant. There were times when creatures wanted to eat him, but he skillfully avoided them. After making a round and returning, his bracelet already had more than a dozen herbs, showcasing Shu Bao’s solid survival and exploration skills.

Shu Bao took two of the heat-clearing and detoxifying herbs and went back to Vidor’s tent. Outside the tent, he heard movement inside, indicating that the hostess had not yet rested.

The gentlemanly Shu Bao raised his paw to knock but found only a curtain of animal skin, so he cleared his throat, “Hello, are you asleep?”

There was an exclamation from inside the tent, and soon someone came out, “Deity, what can I do for you?”

Shu Bao handed over the two herbs, “The high priest asked me to bring these to you. Just give them to Vidor to eat.”

The hostess was overjoyed to hear this. Vidor had been slightly feverish not long ago, making her very anxious. She did not expect the high priest and the deity to send herbs so quickly. After thanking him, she quickly returned to the tent to feed Vidor the medicine.

Shu Bao finally let out a sigh of relief, clutching his small belly. This was his way of repaying the high priest for covering up the sound of his stomach growling during the day. Moreover, Shu Bao genuinely wanted to help improve the high priest’s medical skills. A high priest who couldn’t heal wasn’t a good high priest.

The high priest was unaware that his deity intended to train him to be a versatile talent. Even if he knew, he would probably be deeply moved.

Early the next morning, the high priest woke up and went to check on Vidor. Seeing that Vidor was already awake, he felt relieved and advised him to rest in the tribe for a few days and not go out hunting before preparing to leave.

Before leaving the tent, Li Ya, Vidor’s wife, thanked the high priest, saying that the medicine the deity brought last night was very effective.

The high priest was puzzled for a moment. After asking, he understood that the deity had also brought medicine and had done so in his name. The high priest was instantly moved to tears, feeling that their deity was the embodiment of kindness, unlike the deities of other tribes who often brought punishment.

At breakfast, everyone gathered again. As usual, Shu Bao was given the best roast meat. Then, with a command from Shu Bao, “Let’s eat, the high priest is hungry,” they began their meal.

The high priest: “…” Something seemed off.

After the meal, the hunting team still needed to go out hunting. However, this time, before they left, the deity called them and gave them a bunch of new weapons, including their usual spears and two long swords.

The hunting team eagerly updated their equipment and couldn’t put down the weapons given by the deity. The spears were not only finely crafted but also as sharp as the stone axes. Besides these weapons, the deity also handed them a stone stick, which puzzled the hunting team. Did the deity want them to catch live prey and use the stone stick to knock them out?

Adhering to the principle of not disappointing the deity, the hunting team accepted the stone stick as well.

Shu Bao was very satisfied with this. That staff was the result of his night’s hard work, using countless materials to make. Although the staff only had the simple functions of shooting fireballs and acting as a torch, it was still a magical item.

“Do you know how to use this?” Shu Bao asked worriedly.

The hunting team, feeling they understood the deity’s intentions, nodded repeatedly, “Don’t worry, deity, we will not let you down!”

Shu Bao felt deeply gratified. As expected, the warriors of their tribe were smart and learned quickly without a teacher. “Make sure to use it well.”

Thus, the hunting team went out hunting with spears, long swords, and a stone stick given by the deity. With new weapons in hand, everyone was full of fighting spirit.

Those who stayed in the tribe were also in high spirits because they had important work to do, such as cutting trees, mining, and collecting materials to build miracles.

With stone axes and pickaxes, the efficiency of collecting wood and stone was rapidly increasing. Yesterday, the resource collection progress bar in the task hall had already risen to 6%. Today, the deity had brought out more axes and pickaxes.

Everyone was busy, and the mouse couldn’t be lazy either. Although the mouse didn’t rest much last night, its sense of crisis kicked in after hearing about the giant black python to the east of the tribe. Considering it was early summer, the perfect time for farming, the mouse decided to take a walk around to find some wild crops suitable for cultivation.

As for the high priest, he was busy identifying and memorizing the pile of herbs that the deity had just thrown at him. The deity said he would test him at noon. If he couldn’t answer, he would get his hands slapped.

After several explorations, Shu Bao had a general understanding of the surroundings of the tribe. To the west of the tribe was a river, used for handling prey and daily drinking water. The terrain to the north was relatively flat, while the east was a lush forest, rich in various trees and wild fruits. According to the high priest, the Sishe Tribe was on the other side of the forest.

To the south of the tribe was a mountain range, with complex terrain and many fierce beasts. The people of the Xia Wang Tribe rarely ventured there and knew little about it.

This time, Shu Bao followed the river downstream, planning to go further. The mouse ran at high speed until noon. Although it had some harvests along the way, it didn’t find the grain crops it wanted. The mouse harvested three wild onions, a bundle of wild leeks, a sunflower, five peanuts, and thirteen grasshoppers.

Here, Shu Bao had to explain seriously that it wasn’t that the mouse went to catch grasshoppers while running, but the grasshoppers were too arrogant to ignore, and it would be a waste of the mouse’s speed not to catch them.

Looking up at the sun, just as the mouse was about to return, a familiar plant appeared in front of it. It was a small potato seedling. The mouse immediately ran over. Confirming it wasn’t mistaken, the mouse happily jumped around the potato seedling. Finally, it found a crop that could barely serve as food.

The mouse immediately waved its little paws, and its treasure-seeking digging talent quickly unearthed the complete potato seedling. Moreover, finding one potato plant meant there was a patch nearby. After crossing a gentle hill, Shu Bao saw a field of potato seedlings.

Shu Bao counted with his little paws and found there were thirty or forty plants. This was a windfall! To avoid any delays, Shu Bao immediately started digging at full speed. Within half an hour, he had collected all the potato seedlings.

Considering that plants couldn’t be stored in the system bracelet for long, Shu Bao quickly returned to the tribe.

When the mouse returned to the tribe, the hunting team had already come back. It seemed the new weapons made their hunting trip smooth, and today’s hunt was very successful.

When the fluffy, gray mouse returned, the hunting team excitedly gathered around and handed over two stunned wild chickens. “Deity, the stone club works great. One hit and the wild chickens were knocked out, still alive!”

Shu Bao: “???” Did the staff have a stunning effect? How come I didn’t notice when I made it?
