Jiao Jiao, You Wouldn’t Want the Car Door to be Forced Open Either, Right?

Chapter Two: Jiao Jiao, You Wouldn’t Want the Car Door to be Forced Open Either, Right? (2/2)

The driver couldn’t help but glance at the rearview mirror every now and then. When he wasn’t able to hold back his concern any longer, he expressed his worries, “Miss Wen, please be careful to not catch a cold.”

Wen Zhijiao only ignored him as she continued to silently enjoy the cool breeze, knowing that it also wouldn’t be long enough before that even feeling this cold breeze will be out of reach for her soon.

Several minutes passed, and the car window slowly rolled up.

The driver had finally decided to close it.

Right after he did that, Wen Zhijiao was suddenly overwhelmed with emotions. Her mind was full of crazy thoughts. From the frustration, she was almost tempted to call Jiang Yuancheng and scream at him. She also had the urge to jump out of the car and cause a scene. But she resisted, refusing to create any opportunities of contact with Jiang Yuancheng, knowing that his character was even crazier than she was. Right now, one could only say that she was deathly afraid of him.

The more she thought about it, the more she couldn’t stop herself from thinking back to their first encounter while constantly regretting her past decisions. She kept imagining going back and changing everything. If she hadn’t faltered back then—if she hadn’t given him hope—would her situation be different now?

Wen Zhijiao brought up her legs, pressing it to her chest and hugging it. Her soft, slightly wavy black hair slipped between the crevices of her neck and legs. She felt like a helpless ostrich, burying her head in her fantasies.

Suddenly, the car stopped.

Her thoughts were also disrupted as she looked up, confused.

The driver explained, “Miss Wen, apologies. We got caught in a traffic jam.”

Again, she didn’t bother to reply as she stared out the window, where the raindrops created ripples  on the glass, blurring the view of pedestrians and cars passing by. Through the hazy reflection, she could see a group of girls running and playing around while dressed in their yellow raincoats, looking so happy.

…So envious.

It almost reminded her of the carefree days when she used to play with her friends. From the memory, her emotions suddenly found an outlet, and tears began to roll down her cheeks. Her eyelashes grew damp and soft. She wanted to say something, but in the end, all that came out was “I want a yellow raincoat.”

The driver hesitated for a moment. “But Miss Wen, Mr. Jiang—”

Wen Zhijiao let out a sharp breath. “Go buy it for me! Tell him I want it!”

The driver didn’t dare to delay any further. He immediately changed lanes while also reporting the matter to the other cars.

After some effort, they managed to pull up in front of a busy shopping mall, and the driver quickly rushed out.

Seeing his figure hastily running through the rain only made Wen Zhijiao feel more stifled in her chest. She lowered the window again, letting the rain trickle in.

“Alright, alright. Mr. Gu, next time we should get together again like this.”

“Of course.”

At the entrance of a hotel suite, a few men were clearly wrapping up their banquet gathering, exchanging some final pleasantries.

One man, however, didn’t look too pleased and spoke with a bit of sarcasm, “What’s the point of getting together again? Now that this deal is done, our Mr. Gu is full and satisfied. I suppose we’ll only see him again when he’s hungry for another opportunity.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the faces of his companions changed, but they quickly laughed it off to smooth things over.

“How can you talk like that? Can’t you just count on Mr. Gu to take care of you?”

“Mr. Gu, don’t take it to heart. He’s still young and has only recently taken over the company. He’s not that familiar with how everything works in business yet.”

As they spoke, they all glanced at “Mr. Gu.”

Mr. Gu walked slightly ahead with his slender, noble figure dressed in a well-fitted suit. With his slightly long black hair tied back, he exuded an even more elegant air. Hearing their comments, he suddenly stopped in his tracks and turned around.

Under the hotel’s corridor lights, the man’s face seemed to appear as delicate as a peach blossom. He looked handsome and refined with his pair of phoenix eyes that rested beneath his gold-rimmed glasses, which seemed to be always full of affection and mirth. At first glance, his beauty seemed almost androgynous, but when he smiled, it felt like it carried the bloom of spring flowers and the radiance of the autumn moon.

However, anyone who had spent more than three minutes with him would gradually sense just how dangerous and cunning he was.

A smile that hides a knife1笑里藏刀 (xiào lǐ cáng dāo) – an idiom that translates to “a smile that hides a knife,” meaning someone appears friendly and kind on the surface but is secretly malicious or treacherous.—extremely insidious to the core.

This business deal had been his target from the start, but annoyed by their haggling, he had to use some underhanded tactics to forcibly acquire their entire studio at the lowest price possible, without leaving a scrap behind. They despised him more than anyone, but what could they do? When it came to plotting schemes, they couldn’t beat this fox. And as for family background, who could compete with the true aristocrats of City A?

“It’s fine.” Gu Ye didn’t seem to care as he continued smiling. “Speaking of young, I’m not much older than him.”

The men didn’t react for a moment. It was only after he left that they realized that he was being sarcastic and insulting them for their incompetence. Unable to hold back their anger, they started cursing under their breath.

Outside the hotel, the driver had already parked the car.

Gu Ye was not in a hurry to get in. He stood at the entrance and lit a cigarette.

These useless fools could actually drink a lot.

As the rain intensified, he felt his mind clear a bit. Suddenly, something caught his eye, and a trace of interest flickered in his pupils.

Gu Ye suddenly squeezed the cigarette between his thumb and middle finger and flicked it, the orange-red ember correspondingly pouring out from a corner. It flickered for a moment before being extinguished under his foot, leaving only a thin wisp of smoke.

Then he started walking, dialing a number as he did so. His call was eventually accepted, but at first, all he could hear was a few muffled sounds and faint groans of pain from the other line before being followed by a man’s slightly impatient voice, “What’s the matter?”

Finding the noise annoying from the other line’s background, Gu Ye couldn’t help but slightly pull the phone away from his ear. “It seems that it’s not you.”

He lifted his chin once again, gazing toward the car that was parked in front of the mall located across the street he was in.

“What? Can you please stop speaking in circles?”

The voice on the other end sounded frustrated.

The pedestrian crossing light turned green, and the cars halted in response.

As Gu Ye crossed the street, his tone was playful. “I saw your car, but judging by the noise you got there, you shouldn’t be the one sitting inside your car right now. So, I’m just wondering who could be qualified enough to ride your car?”

As soon as he finished speaking, the muffled sounds on the other end ceased.

A brief silence hung between the two, and the atmosphere seemed to grow increasingly tense and solemn.

Walking toward the parked car, Gu Ye let out a low laugh under his breath. “Let me guess, could it be the canary that you have been hiding for so many years? I might just go say hi and see it for myself if it’s her.”

He finally arrived at the car. Just as he reached for the car door, a loud scream suddenly erupted from the phone.

“Ah—! I will never again—”

Several men lay curled up, groaning in pain, as the rain relentlessly washed the blood from their body. A man, leaning on a cane, stood before them, while another held an umbrella above his head to shield him from the downpour.

The raindrops poured over the umbrella, steadily making pattering sounds. Eventually, this noise was mixed with a rough sound of footsteps scraping against the gravel surface, which further heightened the men’s fear before him.

Under the umbrella, Jiang Yuancheng’s face remained expressionless as he drove his cane directly into the mouth of one of these people. In an instant, the man’s eyes widened in agony, and blood spurted from his throat.

Anyways, what’s the use of having a tongue if they can’t control their mouth?

Jiang Yuancheng lowered his gaze. His voice was icy as he finally issued a warning, “Stay away from that car, Gu Ye.”

He emphasized yet again, “Leave.”
