Chapter Three: Jiao Jiao, You Wouldn’t Want to See People Go Mad Either, Right? (1/2)
The amusement in Gu Ye’s eyes faded as he stared at the car window before him, where only his cold expression and the mocking quirk at the corner of his lips could be seen reflected on the black privacy film.
He gripped his phone tightly. There was a hint of slight contempt in his casual tone as he spoke, “Is it really so precious?”
Jiang Yuancheng was clearly losing his patience, the screams in the background gradually diminishing, as he spoke on the other end. “It has nothing to do with you.”
“Okay. You’re the one who’s crazy anyways.” Gu Ye raised his brows, his gaze calm. “I’m not the one who’s lame, nor am I the one who’s desperately clinging to a white-eyed wolf1“白眼狼” (báiyǎn láng): literally means “white-eyed wolf.” It is a common Chinese idiom used to describe someone ungrateful or treacherous. It’s derogatory, referring to a person who does not appreciate kindness and betrays those who help them.. Why should I care when I’m not the one who’s degrading myself just for a woman?”
“Honestly, what woman can you not get? Who are you guarding your food for?”
After saying all those words, he laughed out in anger and directly ended the call, preparing to leave, his leather shoes splashing water in the rain. But even after he took two steps, he still couldn’t help but feel aggrieved toward their conversation. Turning around, he wasn’t able to suppress his temper and raised his foot.
Bang—!
He kicked the car door hard.
Since the car was made of bulletproof material, the chassis was as solid as a rock, and his kick barely produced any vibration.
Only then was Gu Ye satisfied enough to turn around and leave, but somehow he had a fleeting feeling that there was a figure lingering behind the dark privacy film. Even so, he couldn’t be bothered to lift his eyelids to pay further attention to the person inside and decided to leave, not staying any longer.
Inside the car, Wen Zhijiao bit her lips tightly. She had almost shrunk herself into the corner of her seat, covering her mouth with both of her hands, not daring to make a sound.
Since a moment ago, she had felt that someone was about to open the car door, but when she turned her head to look over, she could only see a young man standing before the car, making a phone call. She initially thought that it was just a drunk man who had mistakenly thought the car for his; but as he lingered on longer, her anxiety couldn’t help but start to grow. She began to suspect that maybe this person was actually one of Jiang Yuancheng’s enemies coming to find trouble.
Now that a kick had just been landed, the tension further rose, and an increasing number of exaggerated imaginations flooded her mind, scaring her into immobility.
Why hadn’t the driver come back yet? They needed to leave immediately! This was too dangerous! At worst, she wouldn’t be planning to come out any time soon. No—actually, this wasn’t just about the matter of not going out anymore. If Jiang Yuancheng’s enemies wanted to take action, they could simply do it anytime and anywhere!
She really couldn’t take it anymore. Why was this happening to her?
Why must she endure this kind of suffering?
The more afraid she became, the angrier she felt, and her resentment towards Jiang Yuancheng began to surge once again.

The car door unlocked.
Wen Zhijiao’s body stiffened for a moment. She then turned her head to look toward the source of the sound, only to see it was the driver.
At this point in time, she had let out a long sigh of relief before shouting at him, anxiously throwing him some orders. “Come on! Come in! Come in quickly! Hurry! There was a drunken man just now!”
Despite the driver being confused as he handed her a paper bag, he still didn’t dare to ask too many questions to the panic-stricken lady. Instead, he immediately started the car and drove back to Jiang’s residence in a hurry.
In the rainy night, the wrought-iron gate was pulled open, revealing the luxurious mansion in all its glory.
After seeing the familiar sight of buildings and faces, Wen Zhijiao finally allowed herself to calm down and put aside the brief fear that she had momentarily felt earlier within the car. With her mood feeling at ease for once, she happily snatched the paper bag inside the car and headed toward the dressing room to change.
Wearing a silly yellow raincoat and matching boots that had both been engraved with a bear pattern, Wen Zhijiao couldn’t help but laugh as she admired herself in the mirror. Just looking at her reflection like this, it almost gave her a feeling that she had returned to her middle school days. She continued to gaze at her reflection for a few more seconds; and once she was completely satisfied, she ran outside of the room, her rain boots heavily thumping in every step she took on the carpeted floor.
Once outside, she stood in the rain for a while, letting the rainwater quietly pour over her body for a moment. Just when the servants were about to come and take her back, to the servants’ dismay, she suddenly bolted into a run, recklessly sprinting across the lawn for quite some time. As she trampled over the grass, it creaked under her feet, while her rain boots, on the other hand, splattered with mud.
Unfortunately, after three minutes of fun, she found herself being splashed in the face by the water that she herself had kicked. She suddenly felt dirty and disgusted. Not wishing to continue this entertainment any second longer, she was forced to abandon this only moment of leisure and return to her room in a huff.
Outside the French windows, the lights constantly flickered, in which the rain would completely reflect as it slowly cascaded down from the ink-stained skies.
Wen Zhijiao was currently curled up in her soft blanket, reading a novel on her phone. When she reached the part where the female protagonist was being bullied by cannon fodders and receiving all kinds of bad luck, she couldn’t help but immediately empathize with her.
Because even she wasn’t that lucky in her life right now. After all the effort to sneak out, she didn’t even get to see the person she most wanted to see and ended up still getting caught by Jiang Yuancheng. And as if that wasn’t enough, she also got harassed by a creep, had her car kicked by a drunk man—and to top it off, she also somehow managed to splash herself with muddy water.
It was just too unlucky…
The more she thought about it, the more miserable she felt. While shedding a few tears, she downvoted the novel.
It was already late evening when Jiang Yuancheng returned to the residence. By the time he arrived at the entrance, he found several servants replacing the grand foyer’s carpet with a new one with the previous carpet having just been rolled up and placed in a cart.
The doorman assisted him in taking off his coat; and as he glanced up, he noticed a few muddy footprints on the rolled-up carpet.
The size of the footprints—it definitely belonged to Jiao Jiao’s.
Jiang Yuancheng immediately recalled the driver’s report from earlier. His gaze lowered as he leaned over to his cane for support. He then headed upstairs. However, the closer he got to the room, the more hasty his steps became. The pain in his left leg was already warning him to slow down, but he still continued to maintain his brisk pace. He even went far by throwing his cane aside right after pushing the bedroom door open.
When he entered, he found the room warm and dry, with an orange bedside lamp softly illuminating the space and a few sleep-inducing candles burning beneath it.
Meanwhile, Wen Zhijiao was wrapped up in a blanket, sleeping restlessly. Under the soft hair that framed her face, her skin seemed to be tinged with a rosy pink glow.
She was as tempting as a cake displayed behind a glass case.
Jiang Yuancheng tightly pressed his lips for a moment. But when he finally couldn’t take it anymore, he immediately acted on his impulse. In an almost impatient manner, he plopped himself on the edge of the bed while leaning his back against the headboard. Stretching out his hands, he then hooked his arm around her waist, eagerly pulling her into his embrace. Even after most of her body was resting on his lap, he still felt that it wasn’t enough. He couldn’t help but lean over as he began to pepper her kisses almost everywhere on her face, leaving trails of it over her hair, her forehead, and even her cheeks.
When his lips later lingered on her neck, a violent urge seemed to suddenly surge within him, compelling him to bite down.
To break into her veins, suck onto her warm blood, and devour her completely.
They had been together for so many years, and yet she still always managed to stir up his darkest, most vile emotions.
Jiang Yuancheng slightly parted his lips, taking in a few breaths of air before slowly curling up his slender body. For a few seconds, he was still as if he was still trying to collect himself. By the time he was finally able to regain his senses, he decided to lean over again and gently press his forehead against hers. However, the moment he did so, his breathing seemed to grow heavier. A few beads of sweat could be seen breaking out on his brow, while the pain in his left leg seemed to become even more pronounced in the rainy weather.
At that moment, the words that Gu Ye had used to ridicule him over the phone suddenly echoed in his mind.
Jiang Yuancheng suddenly opened his eyes. He took her hand and immediately began to caress over it, only stopping when he was completely assured that the ring was still on her finger. His movements, of course, disturbed the person in his arms, naturally stirring the woman from her sleep. Feeling uncomfortable, Wen Zhijiao couldn’t help but open her eyes. But once she did, her body immediately tensed up once it dawned on her the position that she was currently in.
In fact, she could even faintly smell the scent of blood clinging on him.
A bitter taste seemed to well up in her throat, but she immediately swallowed it back, resisting the urge to suddenly vomit over her clothes. Not wanting to have an interaction with the man holding her in his arms, Wen Zhijiao decided to close her eyes again and feign her sleep. However, she also tried to subtly shift her elbows away as if it were just an unconscious reaction.
Jiang Yuancheng seemed oblivious to her resistance as he only pressed her closer to his body while tightening his arms around her waist. A hoarse voice then suddenly echoed in her ear, “Don’t pretend as if you’re still not awake.”
Wen Zhijiao didn’t dare to say anything, but one could see how she suddenly and forcibly squeezed her eyes shut—in fact, she had squeezed her eyes so tight that a few wrinkles had started to form at its corners.
Without a warning, Jiang Yuancheng’s cold fingers suddenly slid into her hair and pressed his hand against her scalp.
The cold sensation immediately startled Wen Zhijiao out of her wits. Instinctively opening her eyes, she instantly found herself gazing into his cold, gray eyes, which seemed to inexplicably contain brewing dark emotions. For a moment, she was lost for words, and she couldn’t help but momentarily pause at first. Realizing that his gaze was too intense for her to deal with, she eventually decided to avert her gaze away before later on softly mumbling her pathetic excuse, “You… don’t hold me so tightly. I feel uncomfortable.”
While having his hands clasped onto her shoulders tightly, he stared at her for what felt like an eternity. Then, without a warning, he suddenly burst into a fit of loud laughter. However, despite that, the gloomy expression on his face never left. Instead, it remained, becoming even more unsettling. And when his laughter finally ceased, he suddenly decided to let go of her before turning on the light in the next second.

The chandelier then suddenly lit up, immediately flooding the room with light, making it as bright as daylight.
