Chapter 12: Coexistence

As the words fell, Feng Lulin’s breathing began to tighten.

The air inside the car also became thicker.

The color of the man’s lips reminded Feng Lulin of the “blood ivory” color that elephants exhibit after being killed when their blood infiltrates the ivory due to rapid circulation.

[T/N: Oddly Specific.]

Combined with his injuries, which made his face pale as ice, Feng Lulin was reminded of a piece of jade candy at home.

Sitting in the front seat was Bai Yangyue. Since before entering the tunnel, he had been worried about Feng Lulin’s condition, occasionally glancing at the rearview mirror.

Now, after hearing Feng Tan’s statement, Bai Yangyue was so startled that he nearly stepped on the wrong pedal, his eyes darting around nervously.

“Just drive,” Feng Lulin said with difficulty, tearing his gaze away from Feng Lulin’s face and speaking to the driver’s seat. “Keep your eyes on the road!”

Bai Yangyue, bewildered, responded, “But, uh, Captain, are you two very close?”

“Somewhat,” Feng Lulin replied, “but it needs a little more heat.”

“Huh?”

Feng Lulin repeated, “Just drive.”

Bai Yangyue, putting in his utmost effort, focused straight ahead. “Yes, Captain!”

Feng Tang couldn’t help but laugh, completely forgetting that he was injured.

Feng Lulin suddenly spoke in a low voice.

With the front window open, Feng Tang couldn’t hear what was being said and was confused. “What?”

Feng Lulin made a gesture to come closer, and Feng Tang instinctively complied, raising his ears to listen.

“I said…”

Suddenly, his warm breath brushed past his ear, and the slightly dry lips from winter made Feng Tang freeze in place. Feng Lulin’s voice was tired yet seductive: “I have a secret to tell you.”

As he finished speaking, he found that spot of jade candy and bit down on Feng Tang’s earlobe.

Feng Tang winced in pain, almost letting out a sound.

Fuck… this guy doesn’t care about the place and timing, playing his tricks without thinking? And he’s deliberately teasing him!

From Bai Yangyue’s perspective, it looked like Feng Tang was mostly covered by Feng Lulin’s turned body, but after a few more glances, it was clear they were whispering. Feng Tang’s face looked uncomfortable as if he was enduring something, while Feng Lulin was smiling and talking.

In the part of the car Bai Yangyue couldn’t see, Feng Lulin’s hand was pressing on Feng Tang’s lower back, holding him in place… his earlobe being nibbled, with canine teeth slowly grinding.

This wasn’t the worst of it.

The most unbearable part was Feng Lulin’s fingers pressing and kneading his waist, making Feng Tang itch, unable to escape.

He was annoyed that he was so thoroughly caught. Little did he know Feng Lulin was also nearly getting drawn in.

“You’re wearing perfume.”

When Feng Lulin spoke in a whisper, his breath fully entered Feng Tang’s ear, competing to get in like countless hands plunging into his whirlpool. Feng Lulin opened the car windows, the wind now overpowering their voices.

Feng Tang’s neck itched terribly. He retorted, “Rose and amber, ever smelled them? You…”

Before he could finish, he felt breath blowing near his ear, making his entire body shiver, choking his words in his throat.

He only heard Feng Lulin laughing softly in his ear, lowering his voice, “So provocative.”

The car hadn’t yet reached the checkpoint for injuries, and Feng Tang couldn’t take it anymore.

This round was a complete loss.

He pulled out his phone, ready to dial. Feng Lulin asked him, “Who are you calling?”

Feng Lulin replied, “He Qing, or Lan Zhou. I need them to pick me up.”

Without looking at Feng Lulin, he felt the latter’s gaze intense and unnerving. Uncomfortably, he rubbed his neck, grasping for conversation, and complained, “You’re too close, my neck is itching.”

Feng Lulin said, “You should lean on my shoulder.”

Feng Tang just glared, “What’s that supposed to mean?! This is a police car. You might not care about your reputation, but I do. Your face is like reinforced concrete; even the city walls aren’t as…”

Feng Lulin chuckled, “Are you blaming me for not kissing you?”

“Who wants you to kiss?”

Feng Tang couldn’t sit still. “Fine, let’s say I acted heroically this morning. This matter is over. Loyalty and righteousness are difficult to balance. I’m going home.”

He babbled nonsensically, riling up Feng Lulin, who was neither patient nor forgiving. Grabbing Feng Tang’s wrist, he said, “Do you want me to check your injuries myself?”

“It’s not that serious…”

“Just admit it.”

“What the fuck do you even know…”

Feng Tang didn’t even finish cursing when Feng Lulin’s face was right in front of him.

He only felt a warmth on his forehead, like a kiss between his brows. The man’s posture was devout, not allowing rejection.

Afterward, there was a long silence.

Feng Lulin simply said, “Just checking if you have a fever.”

Feng Tang didn’t initially feel hot, but after that comment, he genuinely felt feverish.

His heart softened at that moment.

Feng Tang closed his eyes, looking like he was ready for a noble sacrifice. Whether the car’s recorder was on or not, and ignoring Bai Yangyue in the front seat, he took off his jacket.

Using a volume only they could hear, Feng Tang asked, “Have you come out to your family?”

Feng Lulin answered, “They don’t care.”

As soon as he finished, Feng Tang’s jacket covered both their heads. Before Feng Lulin could react, Feng Tang’s hand was on the back of his neck, holding him in place.

Both their heads were covered by the jacket.

Feng Tang’s fingers traced the hard lines of the man’s lips, his eyes full of smiles.

The tug-of-war between them instantly turned into a one-sided tease… their breaths synchronized, rising and falling like the tides.

Feng Lulin couldn’t see his eyes until Feng Tang gave him a brief kiss on the corner of his mouth like a dragonfly skimming the water.

Before Feng Lulin could “counterattack,” Feng Tang quickly pulled off the jacket, taking a deep breath of fresh air.

Feng Tang laughed and said, “Still think I’m stubborn?”

After the car stopped, the three of them got out together. Feng Lulin took Feng Tang to get checked out, then went back to the team for further arrangements.

For the second time, Feng Tang was “summoned” to the traffic police team due to an accident, feeling absurdly at home. He even saw his black Audi at the entrance and was even more surprised: “Damn, who drove my car back?”

Feng Lulin glanced up, “You should go home first.”

Feng Tang was still dazed, “How did my car get here? Was it towed?”

“No, it came by itself.”

Feng Tang was stunned, “Huh?”

Feng Lulin obviously hadn’t figured out what to say yet. He couldn’t possibly admit that the car was arranged by a driver from the Feng family. He quickly interrupted Feng Tang’s train of thought, fearing he might overthink it: “Alright, you should go back now.”

“Huh? Aren’t you supposed to be off work?” Feng Tang asked, “It’s past ten o’clock. How about we grab a meal together?”

“The media came this morning,” Feng Lulin frowned, “I guess it’ll be afternoon before it’s done. You go ahead first.”

Feng Tang had been keen on having a meal with Feng Lulin. He also remembered the duck rack he hadn’t bought. Just as he was about to suggest waiting for him, his phone started ringing incessantly. He cursed inwardly, wondering who it could be… Oh, it was Liu Lizhu.

After answering the call, he was subjected to a scolding. Liu Lizhu then asked about his situation and urged him to go home quickly.

Obedient as always, Feng Tang bid farewell to Feng Lulin, promising to reschedule the meal.

Before leaving, Feng Lulin was puzzled and asked why Feng Tang was so insistent on having a meal. Feng Tang casually replied, “I just want to see you live like a normal person.”

That morning’s intense confrontation left Feng Tang feeling sore all over as he drove. He suddenly recalled Feng Lulin’s somber expression when he was called to see the troublemakers, which oddly brought him a bit of comfort.

In high school, Feng Tang often found himself protecting others during conflicts. Feng Lulin’s attitude gave him a sense of being protected, a rare feeling. Once, Feng Tang got into a fight after night classes. A group of hormonal boys gathered under the flagpole, challenging each other.

Of course, no one could actually climb the flagpole. They were just there to fight. Occasionally, a teacher passing by would ask what they were doing. Feng Tang would say they were climbing the flagpole, and the teacher would nonchalantly call security.

By the time security arrived, the fight was already intense. Feng Tang didn’t need to fight himself; he just incited the others. Back and forth, the groups couldn’t separate. In a fit of rage, Feng Tang shouted, “I’ll kill you today if I don’t…”

Lan Zhou, noticing someone filming with their phone, panicked and, in an unusually loud voice, declared, “I’ll kill He Qing!”

He Qing, standing nearby, was bewildered as Lan Zhou tackled him to the ground. Everyone thought Lan Zhou had switched sides, leaving Feng Tang alone, panting in the chaos.

In high school fights, who protected whom? Everyone was busy throwing punches, often hitting their own by mistake.

Feng Tang even felt that kissing had now become a sacred act, on par with sex. He had only experienced hotel beds, nothing else. In his mind, having sex on a bed was the standard, while car sex was just car sex, and outdoor sex… well, he thought it would involve covering the entire field.

Feng Tang once thought sex was just a series of actions, and attentively listening to someone breathe was the highest form of courtesy. Now, with Feng Lulin, he not only wanted to hear his breathing but also wanted to play a song like “Siboney.”

After this “morning battle,” Feng Tang inexplicably felt that he and Feng Lulin, once parallel lines, were starting to converge.

Back home, he parked his car in the garage. His phone, left in the armrest box, buzzed incessantly. He picked it up and saw that Cen Qi and the others had created a membership group, charging 500 yuan each.

Feng Tang was puzzled. Had they grown a conscience? Only 500 yuan? It used to be 50,000. He quickly paid, only to find out it was a deposit. He sent Lan Zhou a voice message, cursing him for extortion.

Still fuming, Feng Lulin sent him a voice message: “Feng Tang, Feng Tang, are you home yet?”

“Have you been using a pager too much?” Feng Tang replied, “I’m home!”

After waiting a while with no response from Feng Lulin, Feng Tang couldn’t resist sending another message: “Received! Received!”

Bubble Hall: So cute.

Play: Oh.

Play: I’ll add you to a group, Cen Qi’s!

Bubble Hall: Undercover?

Play: No. Just for you to see places your traffic police team can’t reach.

Bubble Hall: You’re the player.

Bubble Hall: Don’t add this account. I’ll switch and add you.

Feng Tang praised Feng Lulin’s caution, but to his surprise, the alternate account had the same name and a faceless selfie in military uniform, with a bandage on the Adam’s apple.

Feeling inexplicably anxious, Feng Tang asked: “Did you hurt your neck?”

Bubble Hall: From before.

Play: Oh, all changed now.

Refreshing the page, Feng Lulin’s profile picture turned completely black. Feng Tang said, “I told you to change your name and picture.” Feng Lulin replied, “Only the picture can be changed.”

For caution’s sake, Feng Lulin changed his username to a string of English letters. Feng Tang only recognized “maple” in the front and understood “sugar” at the end.

After adding Feng Lulin to the group, about a hundred people, whenever someone discussed something, Feng Lulin would send a link to the game “Happy Landlord.” The screen kept flashing with large characters: “Come play Landlord.”

[T/N: OMG lol]

Feng Tang almost died laughing in bed.

When Cen Qi threatened to kick people out, Feng Tang said, “Hey, this is my brother.” Feng Lulin then changed his WeChat name to “Feng Tang’s,” making everyone in the group think he was one of Feng Tang’s lovers, so they let it go.

Staring at the WeChat group, Feng Tang felt a headache coming on.

Liu Lizhu had once added him to a workgroup where people rarely spoke, except occasionally replying “Good job, Director Liu” to Liu Lizhu’s thumbs-up emoji.

Someone would send a long voice message, and others would respond with “Well said” and clapping emojis. Feng Tang suspected no one actually listened.

There was also a high school classmates’ group. Feng Tang felt young until he opened the group chat, realizing he had graduated because everyone was talking nonsense, yet they all seemed to be doing well. The larger the red envelopes, the more enthusiastic they got.

Feng Tang, inherently craving freedom, finally had enough one day and asked He Qing to kick him out. He Qing, clueless as ever, complied. Some classmates noticed the reduced number of members and asked He Qing who left.

He Qing replied: “I kicked them out.”

This caused an uproar, and everyone asked why. He Qing called Feng Tang for help, and Feng Tang said: “Just say we had a fallout.”

He Qing, whether praising or criticizing, gave a thumbs up and said, “As expected of the legendary ‘Wind without a Trace.'”

Feng Tang said, “Actually, I’m a romantic.”

Too exhausted from the morning, Feng Tang slept all afternoon. When Liu Lizhu finally came home, she cut some fruit, prepared to scold him, but seeing he was fine, she just gave him some advice before heading upstairs to rest.

Relieved to have dodged a bullet, Feng Tang grabbed his tablet and lay on the sofa watching videos. The screen still showed the GV he had downloaded before.

A big white butt on the screen, with moonlight blue sheets. The top wore a tie, his waist beautifully arched, facing the camera…

For some reason, Feng Tang got excited watching the top. Frantically searching for earphones, he almost overturned the coffee table but found nothing, so he went into the bedroom to watch with the sound on, skipping straight to the critical moment.

Watching intently, he suddenly lost interest upon seeing the top’s face. This wasn’t his type, nor was the bottom—too pale, too soft, not masculine enough.

He almost gasped, wondering when his preferences had changed.

Realizing the gravity of the situation, he immediately called He Qing: “Let’s go out tonight!”

He Qing, half-asleep, punched the air and shouted, “Let’s go!”

After eleven, Feng Tang sent Feng Lulin a “Good night” message, grabbed his phone, left the car keys behind, and decided to get drunk and find some excitement.

The riverside was bustling as usual. Feng Tang hadn’t been there in a while. Seeing He Qing driving a modest car today felt strange.

Curled up in the driver’s seat, He Qing, who had never been to this new bar, asked mysteriously, “Will there be naked guys dancing tonight?”

“No,” Feng Tang replied with a wicked grin, “We’ll play rock-paper-scissors. The loser takes off their shirt and goes in.”

He Qing was stunned, “What the hell? Are you serious?”

“Playing or not? Playing or not! I’m too repressed, sexual repression, you know? It’ll drive me crazy.”

Feng Tang continued, “If you don’t play, I’ll tell Ying Yu Jiang you…”

He Qing immediately said, “I’ll play!”

Feng Tang knew He Qing came tonight because his man was on a business trip, so he was ecstatic.

Rock-paper-scissors in the car, Feng Tang’s face turned green.

Damn it, one wrong move and half-naked regret. He Qing actually played scissors. So, he had to strip.

Feng Tang, bold as ever, played hard and lost hard. Without a word, he grabbed the hem of his shirt to take it off, but He Qing pulled his arm: “Don’t strip in the car, get out…”

Feng Tang opened the car door and jumped out, stripping off his clothes. The cold wind of the late spring made him shiver all over. As he turned his body, he could still see the marks left by Feng Lulin’s fingers from that morning on his waist—sensuous and vivid.

His physique was quite impressive, more muscular compared to He Qing, though not as fair-skinned, and slightly more slender compared to Feng Lulin. The description “fit when dressed, toned when undressed” suited him perfectly. When he bent over, there was no excess flesh to be seen, his arms were long and lean, and the tight curve of his waist and abdomen looked as if it had been sculpted by the night.

He Qing, watching Feng Tang’s flamboyant antics, was reminded of their high school days when the three of them streaked across the playground. Following Feng Tang, he caught up and threw a coat over him.

Feng Tang didn’t mind. “Tonight, I’ll definitely be the most ostentatious one here.”

The bar’s hallway had interesting decor, with glass sculptures at the entrance. Inside, there was a swimming pool, and blue-green lights cast a unique Prussian blue hue on Feng Tang’s body.

In the venue, there were about four or five men without shirts, two of whom were dancing on stage besides Feng Tang. The atmosphere was explosive. On the right, a barrier separated the seating area where people drank, making it less rowdy.

Feng Tang was bold, emboldened by the presence of familiar faces waiting to play along, and thus dared to bring He Qing to such a “den of tigers and wolves.”

“Had enough of showing off?” He Qing chased and scolded, “You really can, huh?”

“We’re at a bar, why should I pretend to be pure?”

Feng Tang leisurely put his shirt back on, feeling the eyes of the surrounding men on him. He thought of Xiaoguan and Nanhe, and chuckled self-deprecatingly, “Life is boring; you have to find your own excitement.”

Feng Tang hadn’t come to an ordinary place tonight. This was an upscale bar, the kind where luxury cars lined the entrance without anyone setting up a caution line. It was rumored to be a new investment by someone and offered special play activities. Recently, they had invited internet celebrities for the grand opening and were located next to a five-star romantic hotel, which offered complimentary items with room bookings.

“Sit down, I’ll get you a drink…” Feng Tang’s words were cut short as he suddenly looked up and saw someone.

For a moment, he thought his feelings had overwhelmed him to the point of hallucination.

The man wore a shirt with a large coat draped over it, a cognac set in front of him, and a Robusto cigar between his fingers, his face hidden in the white smoke.

Tonight, Feng Lulin was not in his police uniform.

Even from a distance, Feng Tang seemed to smell the scent of cardamom and leather.

Instinctively, Feng Tang turned away, staring blankly in a random direction. “Can’t believe we just said goodnight and still ran into each other at a bar, fuck.”

The DJ, for some reason, possibly a relative of the owner, started playing love songs by two Hong Kong and Taiwanese singers, causing everyone to laugh when “Hello Kugou” rang out in the bar. Feng Tang joined in the silly laughter.

Boring.

He Qing was busy drinking and chatting with new friends at the table, occasionally glancing at Feng Tang. “What are you looking at?”

“Boys in cardigans are really cute,” Feng Tang said casually, “as long as they don’t pill.”

He had been staring at a boy in a cardigan for a while, and the back looked quite…

When the boy turned around, it was Nanhe.

Feng Tang quickly turned his head, but it was too late. Nanhe, holding a wine glass, walked over and shouted, “Brother Feng!”

Feng Tang hadn’t recovered yet when Feng Lulin also approached, standing directly in front of him.

“Brother Feng, Brother Feng, calling like we’re relatives,” Feng Lulin threw his coat over Feng Tang and frowned, “Who are you?”

“I’m his ex-boyfriend, I…”

Nanhe sensed something was wrong halfway through his sentence. Feng Lulin laughed angrily, “I’m his current boyfriend, what, do we need to be introduced?”

Feng Tang covered his face, looking for a way to escape. What a mess!

Feng Lulin’s face had already darkened. Feng Tang glanced at He Qing, who was sneakily watching from the side, not intending to intervene.

Frustrated, Nanhe pulled out a room card, trying to stuff it into Feng Tang’s hand, but Feng Lulin intercepted it. “Perfect timing, we hadn’t booked a room yet, thanks.”

Feng Tang Couldn’t stand it anymore and turned to leave, with Feng Lulin following close behind.

In a quieter area, Feng Tang became anxious. Feng Lulin handed him a cigarette.

His expression darkened, and he gave Feng Tanga a sidelong glance. “That boy looks no older than twenty… how old were you when you started playing around?”

Feng Tang felt a dull ache in his heart but refused to back down. “Playing around? I was in a serious relationship. Sixteen…”

Feng Lulin’s gaze deepened, and he took the cigarette from Feng Tang’s mouth, putting it in his own.

The wet sensation on his lips. The taste of tobacco masked everything between them.

“Dating? Sixteen, were you even weaned yet?”

“Emotional entanglements are fine, but dating is another matter,” Feng Tang said seriously, “We’re all men, keeping things casual and light.”

Feng Lulin’s voice turned cold. “Do you really think just emotional entanglements are enough?”

Feng Tang could smell a deadly sandalwood scent from Feng Lulin.

It was enough to take his life.

The scent was faint, just enough to infiltrate his nostrils when close, unlike any other man he had ever encountered.

In his memory, Feng Lulin had always been masculine and intense. It was hard to imagine such a person, out of his police uniform, could be so seductive, half his face hidden in the sensory overload of the crowd.

A surface of intense sexuality, yet his body carried a scent of restraint.

His throat itched, his mouth dry, and he slowly spoke. “Officer Feng…”

Feng Lulin raised an eyebrow. “I’m in plain clothes now.”

Feng Tang laughed. “A beast in plain clothes.”

Feng Lulin smirked, his expression ambiguous. “If I took off my clothes, I’d be a beast indeed.”

“Exposed, Officer,”

Feng Tang reached out, fingers lifting his hem, a cold hand sliding up his trousers, smiling, “Your belt is still a fucking police issue.”

Feng Lulin’s voice wavered. “Let me be a beast once, and you’ll really become a police officer’s wife.”

Feng Tang didn’t answer directly, making Feng Lulin restless. “Feng Tang, why did you take off your clothes earlier? Was it to show off to others? Why did you put them back on when I arrived? Am I different from others?”

Feng Tang shook his head without speaking. Feng Lulin stared at him, wanting to ask why he was protecting him. Who did he care about?

But he couldn’t expose Xia San’er, making him feel incredibly frustrated.

After a moment of silence, Feng Tang said with a smile, “I’m a top, aren’t you?”

Feng Lulin replied, “Yes.”

Feng Tang cheerfully said, “Conflict of interest.”

After he spoke, a hint of something flashed in Feng Lulin’s eyes, and he said in a low voice, “I can be a bottom for you.”

Damn…really can’t outdo this.

Feng Tang choked, his eyes stinging as if sand had gotten into them. He rubbed them until they were red. “Feng Lulin…stop joking with me.”

He felt he really couldn’t play this time.

Countering every move was exhausting. He feared giving his heart, wanting to extinguish any sparks quickly. The bright path and the narrow path were available to anyone; he’d rather leave the bright path to Feng Lulin.

Stop provoking each other.

His eyes involuntarily turned sour. Feng Tang rubbed them until they were bloodshot, gritting his teeth, muttering about buying eye drops from He Qing…

Today wasn’t an auspicious day for fun. Time to go home.

Feng Lulin suddenly grabbed his wrist, forcefully pulling him steady.

“Who’s joking? Everyone in the city knows you. A standout among countless others,”

He finished, using his fingers to touch Feng Tang’s lips, repeating, “A standout.”

Feng Tang just gasped.

“Late night isn’t your excuse for being vulnerable, Feng Tang.”

Feng Lulin spoke slowly, “But I am.”

Hey Guys it’s SheWee!!

Feng Lulin: Just a little more and you’d be my wife.
