Chapter 1: Delivered to the Door

This year on New Year’s Eve , Feng Tang found himself in a club playing cards instead of being home.

This club was worlds apart from ordinary clubs and was considered a “base” where he and his group would often gather for small parties. It was located on a quiet street in the city, with light red walls, arched windows, a sloping roof, and an angel statue holding a bottle, hidden behind trees at the entrance.

To outsiders, it seemed like a place truly detached from the world.

The club only had two private rooms, one of which was occupied by a group of people tonight.

Among this group was Feng Tang, who originally shouldn’t have been there.

Everyone in the city who liked to play cards knew that Feng Tang was the only son of Liu Lizhu, the chairman of a state-owned enterprise in the city, and his deceased father was once the top official in the city.

Amid the bustling environment, Feng Tang liked to hang out with the second generation of the city, playing recklessly and becoming well-known. However, after his father’s unexpected death two years ago, he had restrained himself quite a bit.

Now back at the card table, his mind was elsewhere.

“Changed cigarettes?”

Feng Tang gave a look to a young man across the table, who was puffing away, and asked, “What are you smoking now? Why does it smell like milk?”

He was accustomed to cigarettes and alcohol, but with the windows and doors closed, he felt the heat suffocating him, and the smoke pressing down on him, making him go almost out of breath.

He was already having bad luck with cars tonight and now he was also being half-smoked out. Nobody was having a good time on New Year’s Eve.

“Ah… it’s cream-flavoured.”

The man being addressed stubbed out his cigarette, pulled another from his pocket, and offered it to Feng Tang, saying, “Tonight’s game was hastily arranged, so I didn’t have time to make proper arrangements. Brother Tang, would you like to try this one?”

Feng Tang declined with a smile, “You can use it. This room is too stuffy tonight, I can’t handle it.”

The man froze for a moment, then smiled and put away the cigarette box, nodding. He glanced around, and the other men at the table, who still had cigarettes in their mouths, quickly stubbed them out and continued dealing cards.

Ignoring the glances around him, Feng Tang leaned back in his chair, not even bothering to look at his cards.

“Why such bad luck tonight?”

Feng Tang grumbled, “The mahjong god is supposed to make an entrance. You haven’t seen the showstopper yet and dare say my luck is bad?”

Being dragged to a private club by a bunch of useless playboys to lose so much money on New Year’s Eve…

On New Year’s Eve, he was supposed to stay with his mother in the district, but with a bunch of relatives coming over, his mother quickly sent him to the club to play and only allowed him back after the show on TV was over.

All the alcohol was replaced with health tea, and the next half-hearted game began.

Feng Tang pretended to be confident, smiling, making his friends dumbfounded. Just as they were about to compliment him, somebody knocked on the door of the private room.

As soon as they heard the knocking on the door, the men inside instinctively stood up, looking nervous.

Feng Tang called out loudly, “Who is it?”

“It’s me, Xiao Nanhe!”

The moment the voice fell, Xiao Nanhe cautiously pushed the door open and was immediately choked by the smell in the room.

His eyes locked onto Feng Tang, and he quickly whispered in his ear, “Brother Tang… did you park a car at the intersection?”

“I did, but why…”

Before Feng Tang could finish, seeing Xiao Nanhe’s nervous expression, his face changed instantly. He grabbed his coat, put it on, and headed for the door without looking back.

Xiao Nanhe stepped aside, hesitated, and said, “Should I… should I go with you…”

“You better not.”

Feng Tang replied, patting Xiao Nanhe’s shoulder, “You stay here and play with them. The money you win is yours, and the losses are mine.”

Xiao Nanhe, forgetting that his brother had caused trouble again, said, “Sure, sure, thanks, brother!”

Feng Tang closed and locked the door, then walked through the wide but eerily quiet hallway, descending a spiral staircase to the club’s entrance.

Only then did his face improve slightly, finally breathing a sigh of relief.

On New Year’s Eve, there weren’t many people or cars on the street.

Rushing to the club earlier, Feng Tang had parked his car in a non-motorized lane as the parking lot was full, thinking it wasn’t too obstructive.

Halfway through the game, Xiao Nanhe, who had gone out for fresh air, returned to call him.

His car had an official plate, so he had to be extra cautious.

The people in the room, though familiar faces, were not trustworthy. All appeared harmless but harboured unknown thoughts.

Running out of the club, the cold wind made Feng Tang shiver.

He stopped, took a deep breath, and lit a cigarette, disregarding any pretence of elegance.

A man nourished by southern soil, his fair complexion made his clear eyes stand out even more.

With a glance, he seemed like a cheerful person.

According to his friends, he was:

“Outwardly flamboyant and caustic, but…”

“Actually transparent, kind, and carefree.”

“A little pixie inside, probably with cat fur.”

Still at the age of twenty-four, he exuded a precious youthful spirit.

Receiving a parking ticket on the street on the new year’s Eve, almost made him cry.

Fortunately, the people in the private room were not very sober. Otherwise, they would gossip behind his back, resulting in him getting a scolding at home.

Being the end of the year, he dared not provoke his elders even slightly.

While locking the car, he had left a note with his phone number, saying, “Just parked for ten minutes.”

Walking to the intersection, he saw a traffic officer standing at the curb.

The officer had his back to Feng Tang, next to a police motorcycle. The flashing red and blue lights on the motorcycle were not as bright as the officer’s fluorescent vest.

Without hesitation, Feng Tang rushed to the streetlight.

Tonight seemed to be cursed, losing money at cards, getting a parking ticket, and the fear of points deduction…

He was already out of breath when he reached his car and felt a slight headache building up.

With the key in his pocket, the car unlocked automatically as he approached.

Exhausted, he climbed into the driver’s seat.

Before he could settle, the fluorescent yellow traffic officer stood before his car.

The interior lights were on.

With the darkness outside and the lights inside, Feng Tang couldn’t see the officer’s face.

Nor was he interested, but that thought quickly changed.

The officer wore a pure white leather belt, held a police baton, had a pair of shoulder lights, and a hat pulled low.

In the cold winter, he wore only a thin police uniform and a reflective vest.

With a police radio on his left chest and a body camera on his right, the full gear looked heavy and cold. Glancing at Feng Tang, the officer straightened his back, saluted, and showed his ID.

After the salute and ID, the officer cleared his throat and said, “Please show your driver’s licence and vehicle registration.”

Feng Tang, not sure if it was the alcohol or what, found the voice strangely familiar.

“Just a moment.” Feng Tang, still clear-headed, wasn’t foolish enough to drive drunk.

Why did this stranger feel so familiar?

When the officer flashed his ID, Feng Tang, confused, rubbed his eyes and said, “Officer, I left a note.”

The name “Feng Lu Lin” was clearly written on the police ID, but Feng Tang didn’t notice.

Under normal circumstances, being present might earn leniency.

Before Feng Tang could speak, he heard Feng Lu Lin say, “First, I only enforce violations, not give friendly reminders.”

Feng Tang clutched his head, feeling a headache coming on.

Feng Lu Lin ignored him and continued, “Second, I’ve waited for you for eleven minutes.”

Feng Tang, knowing his mistake, fell silent.

He closed his eyes, regretting his actions, and glanced at the reminder note on his dashboard: 6 points left.

Feng Lu Lin, following his gaze, said, “Repeat offender, huh?”

The cold wind howled, and the empty street echoed with the rustling leaves.

Feng Tang thought he had misheard, finding the officer’s tone teasing and amused.

Feng Lu Lin, swallowing, continued, “Long story short, the regulations are on this ticket. Report to the traffic bureau within three days for the result.”

Feng Tang, startled, tried to stay calm, thinking, “Stay calm, stay calm…”

Because of the darkness, he hadn’t seen the no-parking sign. The club’s parking lot was full, and the safety cones confused him.

On New Year’s Eve, being a traffic officer wasn’t easy, patrolling and enforcing the law.

If met with a bad temper, there might be a fight. There were countless videos of people fighting with traffic officers online.

As he took the ticket, Feng Tang’s attention shifted to Feng Lu Lin’s hands…

The hands were well-defined and attractive, with a light blue cuff rolled up, revealing muscular arms. The touch seemed to pulse.

Feng Tang, always impulsive, touched the wrist.

The officer’s wrist twitched, his eyes darkened, and he coldly said, “Take the ticket.”

The voice, pleasant to Feng Tang, made him more curious about the traffic officer’s appearance. Unfortunately, there were no streetlights here, so he couldn’t see clearly.

From the physique, the person didn’t seem much older than him and was quite tall, wearing a well-fitted police uniform, likely the largest size available. The reflective vest, usually loose on others, accentuated his broad shoulders and narrow waist.Feng Tang, shifting sideways, slowly moved to get a better look under the streetlamp ahead, finally seeing his face. The man had strong, intense eyebrows and eyes, deep and piercing, with a hint of mischief even when not smiling. Wearing a police uniform with a sense of righteousness, he still had a rebellious flair, with a touch of naughtiness.Such a person, standing in the street during the day, would undoubtedly be the city’s most handsome traffic officer. But now, looking at Feng Lu Lin’s face, Feng Tang only felt…He was still dazed when Feng Lu Lin, with his ticket and pen, turned back to his cool patrol motorcycle.Feng Tang thought if only three points were deducted, there might be room for immediate acknowledgment of his mistake. But to his surprise, the officer got on his motorcycle in the next second!

Feng Tang called out,

“Wait!”

The person, seemingly prepared, responded without turning around,

“Busy, see you tomorrow.”

Feng Lu Lin, after saying this, adjusted his rearview mirror.Feng Tang was left speechless. He watched as Feng Lu Lin started the motorcycle and drove off, leaving him in a cloud of exhaust fumes. He finally snapped out of his daze and let out a sigh of exasperation.

What a night. With his car ticketed and points deducted, and losing money at cards, he felt like the New Year was off to a disastrous start. He got back into his car and decided to drive home carefully, mindful not to break any more traffic laws.

As he drove through the quiet streets, Feng Tang couldn’t help but replay the encounter in his mind. The traffic officer’s face, his voice, and the way he carried himself left a lasting impression. There was something strangely familiar about him, but Feng Tang couldn’t quite place it.

By the time he reached home, it was past midnight. The house was dark, and everyone seemed to be asleep. Feng Tang quietly slipped inside, took off his coat, and headed to his room. He was exhausted but found it hard to fall asleep. His mind kept drifting back to the traffic officer.

He decided to shake it off and focus on more pressing matters, like how to explain the ticket to his family. Feng Tang let out another sigh and buried his face in his pillow, hoping sleep would eventually take over.

The next morning, Feng Tang woke up to the sound of his phone ringing. He groggily reached for it and saw it was his mother calling.

“Hello?” he answered, his voice still thick with sleep.

“Feng Tang, where are you? The relatives are here for breakfast,” his mother said, her tone a mix of annoyance and concern.

“I’m at home. I’ll be down in a minute,” he replied, rubbing his eyes and sitting up.

He quickly freshened up and went downstairs. The living room was bustling with activity as relatives chatted and children ran around. Feng Tang put on a smile and joined them, trying to push the previous night’s events to the back of his mind.

However, the day didn’t go as smoothly as he hoped. Every time he turned around, there was someone asking him about his plans, his work, or when he would settle down. He answered as best as he could, but his thoughts kept drifting back to the traffic officer from the night before.

Later in the day, when the relatives finally left and the house quieted down, Feng Tang found himself alone in the living room. He sat on the couch, staring at the ticket he had received.

“Busy, see you tomorrow,” the officer had said. Was it just a casual remark, or was there more to it?

Curiosity got the better of him. He decided to go to the district traffic management office the next day, as instructed. Maybe he could get some answers, or at least a chance to see the officer again.

The following day, Feng Tang woke up early and made his way to the traffic management office. It was a typical bureaucratic building, and he felt a bit out of place as he walked in. He approached the front desk and explained the situation.

“I’m here about a ticket I received last night,” he said, handing over the document.

The clerk took the ticket and scanned it. “Ah, yes. Officer Feng Lu Lin issued this. You can wait in the lobby; he should be here shortly.”

Feng Tang nodded and took a seat in the lobby, his heart racing slightly. He wasn’t sure what he expected, but he couldn’t deny the curiosity and strange excitement he felt.

After a few minutes, he saw Feng Lu Lin walking towards him. The officer looked just as composed and authoritative as he did the night before, but in the daylight, he seemed more approachable.

“Mr. Feng,” Lu Lin greeted him with a nod. “Let’s discuss your ticket.”

Feng Tang stood up and followed the officer to a small office. As they sat down, he couldn’t help but study Feng Lu Lin’s face more closely. There was definitely something familiar about him, but he still couldn’t figure it out.

“Regarding your ticket,” Lu Lin began, “I can see you have a history of minor traffic violations. It’s important to address these issues to avoid more serious consequences.”

Feng Tang nodded, trying to focus on the conversation. “I understand, Officer Feng. I’ll be more careful in the future.”

Lu Lin gave a slight smile. “That’s good to hear. I’ll reduce the points deducted this time, but please make sure you follow the traffic rules.”

“Thank you, I appreciate it,” Feng Tang replied sincerely.

As they wrapped up the discussion and Feng Tang prepared to leave, he couldn’t resist asking, “Have we met before? You seem very familiar.”

Lu Lin raised an eyebrow, then chuckled softly. “I don’t think so, but who knows? Maybe our paths have crossed before.”

Feng Tang smiled, still feeling that strange sense of familiarity. “Well, thank you again, Officer Feng. I’ll see you around.”

“Take care, Mr. Feng,” Lu Lin replied, giving him a nod as he left.

As Feng Tang walked out of the office, he felt a mix of relief and intrigue. There was something about Feng Lu Lin that he couldn’t shake off, but for now, he was just glad to have the ticket situation resolved.

Little did he know, this encounter was just the beginning of a series of events that would intertwine their lives in unexpected ways.

Hey guys it’s SheWee!

Feng Lulin: Ugh what type of jackass is interrupting me on new year.

Feng Tang: You’re handsome as F*ck.
