That day, they met at the restaurant, shared a kiss, and after it ended, Jin Wuqi didn’t let Yu Yang leave. He asked if Yu Yang would be willing to have a meal with him.
Yu Yang agreed.
In the afternoon, Yu Yang received a message from Jin Wuqi with the name of the restaurant and they arranged to meet in an hour.
Yu Yang didn’t reply. He finished up his work, checked the time, then picked up his coat and left the office.
“Are you really not going?” His assistant was waiting at the door. He then walked alongside Yu Yang towards the elevator, with a hint of perseverance in her tone.
There was an important dinner scheduled, an invitation Yu Yang received a week ago. He had only said he would see how things went. But today, he was going to have dinner with Jin Wuqi, so he decided not to attend.
“I’m not going,” Yu Yang said.
“But they’ve been contacting us, saying they really hope you can attend…”
“I have some personal matters today,” Yu Yang said, pressing the elevator button. “If there’s anything, they can come to the office and talk to me face to face. It doesn’t have to be resolved during dinner.”
The elevator door opened and Yu Yang stepped in. He turned to look at his assistant outside. He smiled slightly. “Tomorrow is the weekend. I wish you a pleasant one.”
The assistant stared at the closing elevator door in a daze. She had been with Yu Yang for almost two years. It was the first time she had heard him wish her a pleasant weekend.

Just as he drove out of the parking lot, a crisp ringtone sounded. A message notification popped up.
Jin Wuqi: I can’t have dinner with you today. Sorry, let’s arrange another time.
Yu Yang glanced at the message and then calmly turned off the navigation and turned the steering wheel towards home.
On the roadside, Jin Wuqi sat in the driver’s seat, breathing heavily in the dimly lit car.
***
Not long ago, Jin Wuqi had left the building early. The parking lot was empty and the sound of footsteps was clear.
He walked to his car and had just unlocked the door when he heard a series of faint shoe sole friction sounds.
Then came the faint scent of alpha pheromones, mixed with the damp and dark atmosphere unique to the underground parking lot. It was like a ghostly presence, silently baring its teeth and claws in the quiet air, creeping up on his shoulders.
Jin Wuqi stiffened. His whole body tensed as the pheromones slowly wafted to his nostrils. He shuddered violently, turning his head to look at the wall to his left.
Footsteps echoed and a figure emerged slowly from the shadows behind the wall.
Half of his face was obscured by the darkness. A pair of cold, sinister eyes stared at Jin Wuqi, as if peering at prey.
Jin Wuqi stared at him, cold sweat breaking out all over his body. The silent underground parking lot felt like hell, with countless unseen claws ready to drag him down into the abyss.
“Didn’t expect to see me, did you?” The alpha spoke low and coldly. “You’ve been living too comfortably. Seeing me again, are you scared?”
His voice was hoarse, like a venomous snake hissing in his ear. It wore down his will in immense fear and tension. Jin Wuqi’s limbs went cold and his fingertips trembled lightly.
“Wei Yi… you dare to come find me.” Jin Wuqi gritted his teeth, trembling. But he couldn’t help but sneer, “Do you think you’re not miserable enough?”
His words easily angered the man opposite him. The alpha pheromones suddenly intensified, causing Jin Wuqi to stagger and weakly grasp the car door for support.
Wei Yi took a step towards Jin Wuqi, looking at the omega’s pale face. He coldly smiled and said, “You’ve made me miserable. Why wouldn’t I dare to come find you?”
The unusually strong alpha pheromones seemed to be enveloped in a poisonous cloud, infiltrating through his breath, pores, and everywhere else. Jin Wuqi felt weak. His stomach churned with physiological rejection. He almost wanted to vomit. His vision blurred from dizziness.
“Isn’t it strange? You destroyed my glands, yet why do I still have such strong pheromones?” The alpha suddenly reached out, gripping Jin Wuqi’s neck and forcing him to lift his head. Wei Yi’s face twisted as he looked at the omega before him and he said viciously, “Because I injected the conversion agent…”
Pheromones, whether for alphas or omegas, are an indispensable presence. They are glandular substances that are as important as dopamine. They can excite people more than adrenal hormones. The glands are the only glandular parts that produce pheromones, and once they are damaged, the secretion of pheromones will be inhibited. The degree of inhibition varies depending on the extent of damage. If the glands are completely destroyed, the pheromones will disappear. Both alphas and omegas will become ordinary individuals without sexual attractiveness, unable to perform or enjoy the ‘marking’ behaviour. Alphas cannot ‘mark’ their omegas, and omegas cannot possess the ‘mark’ of their alphas. Apart from leaving meaningless bite marks, there is nothing else to it.
The conversion agent is a last resort when the glands cannot produce pheromones. It is usually injected into the pineal gland or the gonads. It can allow pheromones to survive in other glands, converting them into hormones similar to other secretions. However, such pheromones are generally weak and cannot become a strong presence for AO mutual attraction. They can only act as a catalyst for arousal or a personal unique odour marker, and cannot exert normal strength.
But with the current concentration of Wei Yi’s pheromones…
Jin Wuqi looked at him as if he was crazy. “You actually injected it into the pituitary gland…”
The pituitary gland is an important part of conveying information to other glands to stimulate them to perform different tasks. It controls various activities in the body. Injecting a conversion agent into the pituitary gland can allow pheromones to be secreted and flow like normal glands. However, at the same time, pheromones injected through abnormal routes will undoubtedly cause unpredictable rejection reactions in the brain. This may manifest as intermittent fever and dizziness, abnormalities in various blood indicators, or even damage to neurons leading to cerebral palsy. The most serious consequence is direct death.
“Surprised, aren’t you? I’m still alive and well.” Wei Yi’s smile was mad and malicious. His handsome face showed a chilling coercion. “I don’t even want my life anymore. What else do I have to fear?”
His hand on Jin Wuqi’s neck tightened. A feeling of nausea and suffocation surged up. Jin Wuqi’s eyes filled with involuntary tears. He fumbled to put his hand into the car door and forcefully pressed a button on an alarm device on the left side of the door.
Then he raised his knee and fiercely struck Wei Yi in the abdomen.
Wei Yi grunted, released his grip, bent over, and covered his lower abdomen. Jin Wuqi breathed heavily, staggering back a few steps. He wiped away the tears from his eyes. When his vision cleared, he met Wei Yi’s fierce gaze as he lifted his head.
Wei Yi stood up straight, slowly approaching Jin Wuqi. His tall figure was like a predator ready to pounce, and the pheromones emanating from him were like a toxic substance oppressing its prey.
Jin Wuqi leaned against the car’s tailgate, his hand pressing on his stomach, his brows deeply furrowed. Sweat had soaked his shirt. He was like a fish thrown ashore. All his struggles were futile.
Wei Yi raised his hand and once again reached for Jin Wuqi’s neck.
“Boss!”
The assistant’s voice came from the entrance of the garage not far away. Behind her were two bodyguards and two security guards, all running towards them.
Wei Yi glanced at them but showed no signs of fear. He bent down, looked at Jin Wuqi who was still catching his breath, and said, “As long as I’m caught, those things will be sent out. You think about it yourself.”
“What things…” Jin Wuqi raised his head. But all he saw was Wei Yi’s back as he walked away.
The assistant ran over to support him, while the bodyguards and security guards wanted to continue chasing.
“Don’t chase after him.” Jin Wuqi stopped them. “Don’t chase.”
“Why?” The assistant asked urgently. “We can catch up with him now!”
“No need.” Jin Wuqi stood up straight, shaking his head. “You guys go back.”
“I’ll take you to the hospital,” the assistant said, taking out a tissue to wipe the sweat from Jin Wuxi’s face, helping him tidy his dishevelled hair. Looking down, the assistant frowned. “Boss, your neck…”
Jin Wuxi straightened his shirt collar, buttoning the top button tightly. He gently pressed the assistant’s wrist, then turned to the others, saying, “Enhance security measures from now on. No strangers are allowed into the company building. And arrange for patrols in the underground parking lot.”
“Understood.”
“You guys can go back. I’ll leave first.” Jin Wuxi sat in the driver’s seat, looking at the assistant with a concerned gaze. He smiled, “Don’t worry. The alarm system works well, and you arrived just in time. I’m fine.”
The assistant nodded, closed the car door for him, and watched as Jin Wuxi drove away.
Jin Wuxi drove the car out of the garage and stopped by the roadside.
He looked at the lingering sunset and the traffic around him, tears uncontrollably streaming down his face.
He picked up his phone, sent a message to Yu Yang, and cancelled their dinner for tonight.
Then he rested his hands on the steering wheel, breathing heavily. It was as if he was still in fear or in panic, tears falling onto his lap.
Song Zhimu called him.
“Are you free later? I have to leave the country suddenly tomorrow at noon, and I have other appointments tomorrow morning. So I want us to sign the contract from last time tonight before I leave and arrange the tasks.”
“Now?” Jin Wuqi took a deep breath and asked, “Where?”
“I’ll send you the location. President Chen happens to have time available. And the other responsible people are also here. Everyone will sign when you arrive.”
“Okay, I’m coming now,” Jin Wuqi said.
After hanging up the phone, Jin Wuqi wiped his eyes with a tissue, lowered his head to suppress his emotions. He then started the car again.
He didn’t care who he was meeting with now, except for Yu Yang.
***
Yu Yang took a shower and stood on the balcony. The weather was getting colder. He took a sip of hot water and looked at the distant crescent moon.
He was stood up inexplicably and didn’t get any explanation. But Yu Yang didn’t feel any anger.
After all, he was once dumped without a word, without any reason or explanation, not even a word of comfort.
After looking at the night for a while and feeling a bit bored, Yu Yang looked at his phone and saw that Chen Antong had sent him a WeChat message.
Chen Antong: [Picture]
Yu Yang clicked on it. It was a picture in a private room of a restaurant, filled with familiar business faces, including partners, clients, and Song Zhimu.
And Jin Wuqi.
He sat with Song Zhimu, both wearing faint smiles, their glasses clinking together.
Chen Antong: Yu Yang, you’re really something. How come you haven’t won over this beauty yet? At this rate, he’ll end up with Song Zhimu sooner or later.
Yu Yang then thought to himself; See, just now you were thinking about not getting an explanation. And now you have it.
Yu Yang placed his glass on the railing, replied to Chen Antong with only an ‘Mm’. He then turned and went back to his room. The hot water in the glass emitted wisps of white vapour in the chilly air, half clinging to the glass wall and half dissipating into the void.
