The banquet was not yet over. But Yu Yang was already somewhat drunk.

Among the guests were his father’s business partners. All the elders patted his shoulder and constantly praised him. Yu Yang could only drink one glass after another to show respect and gratitude to these uncles.

Finally, feeling a bit drunk, he bid farewell to them and said he was going to the restroom.

After coming out of the restroom, Yu Yang bent over and washed his face. In the mirror, his face was flushed. And his eyes were also tinged with red.

Yu Yang saw a handkerchief in front of him and turned to see Jin Wuqi.

“Wipe your face,” Jin Wuqi said. “I’ve booked a room for you upstairs. Let me help you go up to rest.”

Yu Yang pushed his hand away and turned to walk out.

He hadn’t managed to walk two steps further before feeling a bit dizzy. This half-drunk feeling was killing him. His mind was clear. But his actions were scattered.

Jin Wuqi came over to help Yu Yang and wiped his face. He said, “Go rest in the room, okay? I’ve ordered some warm honey water for you. When it arrives, have a sip. It’ll make you feel better.”

“Why do you care?” Yu Yang looked at him. “Is it fun for you? Do you think I would die without your help?”

“Yu Yang…” Jin Wuqi’s voice was very soft. “Please don’t say such things.”

“Stop talking nonsense. You can’t even stand properly,” Du Yele suddenly appeared and grabbed Yu Yang’s arm, pulling him towards the elevator. “Deal with it when you’re awake. Let’s not argue now.”

The two of them brought Yu Yang to the room and he collapsed on the bed. The honey water arrived. Jin Wuqi brought it to him, saying softly, “Yu Yang, sit up and have a sip. It’ll make you feel better.”

Yu Yang raised his hand and knocked the water over. The glass rolled a few times before wobbling to a stop.

“You…” Du Yele was so angry he was about to scold him.

“Get out! Both of you. Get out!” Yu Yang’s eyes were bloodshot as he yelled at them. “Get out! I don’t want to see you!”

Alcohol magnified all emotions. The subtle yet immense pain, resentment, stubbornness, and anger all surged out uncontrollably. They were rushing out through a gap, unstoppable no matter how hard he tried. Yu Yang was afraid that if this continued, he would say even more hurtful words. And he couldn’t hold it in anymore.

The sound of the door closing was followed by silence. Yu Yang buried his face in the pillow. His nose was sore. But he refused to shed tears. He just endured it silently.

His hair was gently touched and Yu Yang heard Jin Wuqi’s voice.

“Yu Yang, it’s all my fault. You can hit me or scold me. Just don’t be so hard on yourself, okay?”

For a moment, the room fell into a frightening silence.

After a few seconds of silence, Yu Yang chuckled, “Do you think I’m having a hard time dealing with myself?”

He turned over and sat up at the head of the bed, looking at the curtains on the other side swaying slightly. After a while, he asked, “Have you ever experienced it? Thinking about someone so much that you’re about to go crazy. But as soon as you remember that you’re the one who’s been abandoned, it’s like being splashed with cold water in a snowy field. It’s really cold. And your whole body aches.”

He turned to look at Jin Wuqi and asked, “Why? Why are you treating me like this?”

That’s over four years of time. A sincere heart was gradually consumed, like an endless torture. Why should he suffer like this, just because he fell in love? Does that mean he deserves to be betrayed?

The alpha, with drunken eyes red, questioned the abandonment from four years ago. It was a barrier he couldn’t overcome.

“I’ve tried, Yu Yang,” Jin Wuqi moved his eyelashes and said, “I know how you feel.”

“But you caused this pain on me yourself. So you have no right to empathise with me,” Yu Yang gritted his teeth. “I don’t want to see you anymore. You can find any other alpha you want. Just don’t appear in front of me.”

“Okay. Anything you ask of me, I’ll do it.” Jin Wuqi bent his knees and sat on the edge of the bed, reaching out to loosen Yu Yang’s tie. “I’ll tidy up for you and then leave. Get some good rest.”

Yu Yang closed his eyes wearily. He was truly exhausted.

Tears fell from Jin Wuqi’s eyes onto Yu Yang’s shirt. He steadied his voice and said, “I’ll go heat up some water in a moment. You can take a bath, put on a bathrobe, and you’ll feel more comfortable sleeping.”

“When I leave, I’ll tell the attendant to bring another cup of honey water for you. Remember to drink it. Or you’ll get a headache.”

“I’ll contact your assistant to have your clothes sent over. You probably haven’t eaten much tonight. So make sure to have breakfast tomorrow…”

Jin Wuqi untied Yu Yang’s tie and neatly placed it by the pillow, almost reluctantly gazing at the alpha’s face. The scent of lemon soda pheromones lingered close by. He wondered when he would have the chance to be this close again.

He reached out to gently stroke Yu Yang’s cheek, wanting desperately to say something. But he felt entangled by the seaweed-like past, dragging him down. Jin Wuqi felt himself sinking. The icy water was already covering his nose and mouth. Unable to speak, he dared not reach out to Yu Yang for help.

Because he knew too well that every step he had taken until now wasn’t for the sake of crying out for help at the last moment. There was only one thing left unresolved. So, before it was completely resolved, any breakdown or confession would be poison, rendering all his endurance and swallowed blood meaningless.

Furthermore, the question that had always been unsolvable for him was how to face Yu Yang after knowing all the facts.

Avoidance, retreat, fear, hesitation, entanglement, and resentment… Time and time again, all the most embarrassing, secretive, and fragile factors in his character kept emerging and amplifying. In fact, all of it ultimately stemmed from this.

While the Omega’s mind was still wandering, his wrist was suddenly grasped. When the Alpha opened his eyes, the pitch-black pupils seemed cold. Yet there was a scorching power that made it feel like one was being burned upon locking eyes.

Yu Yang exerted force to pull Jin Wuqi onto himself. He then rolled over to press him down, looking at the Omega’s moist eyes and saying coldly, “So, besides crying during sex, you cry at other times too.”

The Alpha seemed to have changed abruptly. He was unlike his usual pretence of toughness and indifference. His face now carried a look of hatred and determination, with a cold and mocking expression. Jin Wuqi had seen this expression on Wei Yi’s face before. It was a harbinger of revenge.

“Yu Yang…”

Before he could finish his sentence, Yu Yang grabbed the tie from the bedside. He held Jin Wuqi’s hands, tied the tie around them, and then tied the excess length to the bedpost. Jin Wuqi was left hanging in mid-air, feeling a bit disoriented as he struggled a bit. “Yu Yang, you…”
