Casual homophobia, casual ableismWu Ruo chose some weapons and materials from the gifts that Hei Xuanyi gave them that Wu Bofang might have use for in the near future. Then, he went to Bojin Garden, that Wu Bofang stayed in, with Wu Qianqing.
On the way there, Wu Ruo took the opportunity while he was holding Wu Qianqing’s wrist for support to discreetly take his pulse: “Dad, how has the recovery of your cultivation field been recently?”
Wu Qianqing smiled delightedly: “Although I don’t have any spiritual energy yet to check on my cultivation field, but I can sense that it’s recovering quite well. After soaking for another half a month, I should be able to gradually gather spiritual energy.”
Wu Ruo could tell from his pulse that he was recovering well indeed, so he relaxed and said: “Then that’s good. Before I came here, Xuanyi told me to inform you, after you’ve soaked for a month, you should add in a suitable amount of Spirit Gathering Grass. If that still doesn’t stabilise your spiritual energy, then you should eat one Spirit Condensing Pill every day. Oh, that’s right, before you recover to your former capability, it’s still better not to let anyone realise that you’ve already recovered.”
Wu Qianqing nodded his head, and started to think about what tools he could use to conceal the spiritual energy in his body.
Bojin Garden sat in the heart of Wu Manor, encircled on all four sides by water. Its environment was extremely beautiful and quiet. A 7-storey pagoda had been built at the center of Bojin Garden, reaching heights of more than 10 zhang11 zhang is equal to 10 chi, and is about 3.33 meters or 3.65 yards. A quick search on Google yielded this 5-storey pagoda in Japan that is about 30 meters tall, if anyone wants to have a vague visualisation.. When one stood at the summit of the pagoda, they could see the splendor of the Wu estate in one glance.
What Wu Bofang liked to do most was to go to the top of the pagoda every morning to look at the Wu estate that he had single-handedly established. Gazing out at the endless Wu estate, an indescribable great sense of pride would fill his heart.
When Wu Ruo and Wu Qianqing arrived at Bojin Garden, they were just in time to run into Wu Bofang who was coming down from the pagoda. Both father and son immediately went forth to greet him.
Wu Bofang saw that Wu Ruo’s attendants were carrying2The word for “carrying” here is 捧 (peng) which means to hold with both hands. The author most likely means something like this.
I had no idea how to Google this, so I screencapped it myself from the drama ‘Nirvana in Fire’. (I highly recommend it if you enjoy main characters scheming revenge like in Loser Wife.) Basically, it’s the way servants hold a tray with the item on it and they look downward in deference rather than facing the person they’re serving. piles of gift boxes, and a sliver of satisfaction flashed in his solemn and wise gaze.
Wu Ruo immediately presented the gifts to him: “I’ve3Wu Ruo is referring to himself in third person as 曾孙 (zengsun) “great-grandson” here, and not using 我 (wo). It’s just more polite. been married for many days, and have only come to greet Great-Grandfather today. I am too unfilial, I hope Great-Grandfather can forgive me.”
Wu Bofang was already 115 years old, yet as a magic practitioner, he looked like he was only in his early 40s. Besides a bit of crow’s feet44 — fun fact! The word for crow’s feet in Chinese is 鱼尾纹 (yu wei wen) which is literally ‘fish tail wrinkles’. Personally, I think fish tail wrinkles is more accurate than describing those wrinkles at the eyes as crow’s feet. at the corners of his eyes, the rest of his face was very smooth, with no traces to tell that he was an old fogey past 100 years old.
Wu Bofang asked: “Xiao-Ruo, how come your husband didn’t accompany you to come here together?”
Wu Ruo’s smile instantly stiffened, lowering his eyes wordlessly, looking especially pitiful.
Wu Bofang assumed that Hei Xuanyi was not fond of Wu Ruo and sighed: “I’ve let you suffer.”
No matter what, this great-grandson was still the youngest son of the grandson Wu Bofang used to favour the most. He more or less still had a bit of affection for the son of the grandson he favoured. So, seeing Wu Ruo like this still made him feel a little guilty. If it wasn’t because he wanted Wu Chenzi’s favour, he wouldn’t have let Wu Ruo marry a man. However, every time he saw Wu Ruo’s fat body that didn’t have spiritual energy, he just simply couldn’t find a way to like Wu Ruo. If he could avoid seeing Wu Ruo, he would avoid seeing him, otherwise, it would just make him annoyed.
Wu Bofang thought of his grandson, and his gaze couldn’t help but turn to Wu Qianqing.
This child was the most outstanding of his sons and grandsons and was also the one that he used to have the highest expectations for. In the past, he’d thought many times of grooming this grandson to take over the role of the Wu family head. Who would’ve thought that his cultivation would be maimed, it simply made one feel regretful.
If it wasn’t for the fact that this grandson had an older son who was like him and also had outstanding abilities, otherwise, this grandson’s bloodline could also be considered destroyed.
Wu Bofang narrowed his eyes; it was hard to tell what he was thinking of. His gaze flashed with a sense of severity, and he said indifferently: “Qianqing, your father and your brothers are all waiting in the main hall. The two of you go ahead first, I’ll come over after I’ve gone back to my rooms to change my robes.”
“Understood.
