“Alright.” Huo Yunchuan gave his son a hug, then pushed him away and wrapped his arm around An Wuyang’s shoulder. “Let’s head back.”
He said this while handing the luggage to Huo An.
…What could Huo An do about his father’s behavior, which seemed to favor his partner over him? He could only get used to it.
“Okay,” he said, accepting the luggage.
And since he received a gift he liked today, any resentment towards his domineering father had already disappeared.
So he cheerfully followed behind, carrying the luggage and playing the role of an aware bystander.
“Dad…” After returning home and watching the two of them go inside, Huo An grumbled to himself and called his grandparents to let them know that their son had returned safely and that his work was reportedly handled well, so there was no need to worry.
Mrs. Huo was very happy to talk to her obedient grandson and was reluctant to hang up. After all, Huo An had been busy with his exams and hadn’t been back to the old house for a month, and they missed him.
Mrs. Huo asked, “And what about your dad?”
Huo An glanced at the closed door of their room and shook his head. “Oh, they’re resting.”
Then he left the unattended luggage and went back to his own room.
He was relieved that the room next door wasn’t where his dads were, so it was quiet.
“Alright, I’ll hang up,” Huo An said.
“Okay. Don’t work too hard; just make sure your grades are acceptable,” Mrs. Huo advised.
“Mm.” After ending the call with his grandmother, he sat in his chair and took out the car keys from his pocket, playing with them in his hand.
He thought to himself that once the exams were over, he’d go for his driver’s license.
Then he opened the drawer and threw the keys inside, pulled out a thick stack of exam papers, and began to rapidly work through the questions.
He kept at it until 5 p.m., when Huo An collapsed on his bed for a nap. When he woke up, the sky was painted with colorful sunset hues.
He remembered someone once said that if you nap until evening, you might feel the loneliness deep inside.
Huo An felt this and his expression turned grim, mostly because he was very hungry.
“Aunt Lin—” Still growing, he weakly got up to find something to eat.
“Is Dun Dun awake?” The whole family still called him Dun Dun, including the nanny who took care of him when he was young. “Go to the living room; Auntie will get you some soup.”
Aunt Lin, now 55 and about to retire, was a comforting presence.
Aunt Zhang, who was over 60, had retired a few years ago to spend her later years at home.
“Dad,” Huo An said as he made his way to the living room, calling out to his father, who was sitting by the table with a relaxed expression. “Where’s my little dad?” he asked.
“Asleep,” Huo Yunchuan replied.
“So tired?” Huo An said, finding a chair to sit in. He looked at Huo Yunchuan and understood that his little dad wasn’t tired but had been exhausted by…
Ahem, these two old lovebirds were still so lovey-dovey.
The eighteen-year-old, who knew quite a bit, secretly rolled his eyes, pretending to be pure and innocent, and had a quiet dinner with his dad.
Around ten at night, Huo An heard some noise, presumably indicating that his little dad had woken up.
He snickered to himself in bed, delighted that his little dad waking up meant that his dad, who was both a partner and a father figure, would be taking care of him.
Anyway, it had been like this for more than ten years.
His little dad was just living a life of luxury.
After an exhausting afternoon, An Wuyang felt that every part of his body ached. Next time, he should stick to his bottom line and firmly refuse any requests for repeated intimacy.
Strangely, even though Huo Yunchuan was fifty, he seemed just as energetic and enthusiastic in bed as he was during their early romantic days, showing no signs of aging or diminished desire…
Moreover, An Wuyang felt that his own desires had suddenly increased around the age of thirty, confirming that he was indeed in the prime of his life.
So, thinking about it, Huo Yunchuan’s undiminished enthusiasm for intimate matters is probably a good thing.
Ahem, after all, An Wuyang isn’t sure when he will go through this phase—will it be at forty? Or forty-five?
Anyway, at thirty-seven this year, everything is going quite well.
During his university years, An Wuyang inadvertently got involved in investing in films through Ji Mingjue. After four years, he had earned a decent amount of money.
After graduating, he used his own funds to start a chain of pastry shops, achieving his dream of being a small business owner.
Now, their daily life involves Huo Yunchuan managing his large corporation, and An Wuyang managing his small business. On the surface, they operate separately, but in reality, their influence is everywhere in each other’s domains.
Since Huo An became aware of things, he has to admit that his two dads are the sweetest couple he has ever seen.
One of the main reasons is, of course, because his little dad is known as “Little Sweetie,” with a personality that’s sweet enough to match the name.
If it were just his big dad alone, well, that would be another story.
Indeed, the nickname “Little Sweetie” has stuck to An Wuyang for over a decade, and fans are still reluctant to let it go.
After all, Little Sweetie became a small business owner, frequently holding giveaways and sending out dozens of cakes on Weibo.
He has quietly gained a lot of fans over the years.
Yet, An Wuyang still doesn’t understand the melancholy of gaining weight. He regularly smiles and posts on Weibo about new products, inviting everyone to sample them for free.
As the chain stores spread across various locations, fans in any city can enjoy cakes from An Xin Pastries.
Well, never mind the weight; at least once a month, he supports his business’s cakes.
After more than a decade of dedicated support, their eighteenth wedding anniversary is approaching.
An Wuyang plans to reward his fans with a batch of delicious new products. On that day, they will be able to use free coupons distributed in fan groups to get a heart-shaped cake.
…That was the original plan.
At the end of May, some time before their wedding anniversary, An Wuyang went to the main store near his home to try the new cakes made by the pastry chef for the anniversary event.
At thirty-seven, dressed in casual light summer attire, he looked no different from someone in their early twenties among a group of young people.
“This vanilla flavor is alright; it’s more suitable for my husband’s taste,” An Wuyang said, pointing to the strawberry flavor he had just tried. “The strawberry’s sweetness might be more suitable for women.”
Considering that most of his fans were female, he felt the strawberry flavor should be the main recommendation.
The pastry chef brought over another chocolate option. “Please try this one as well. I think the chocolate theme is also quite fitting for the anniversary event.”
“Mm.” Since he wasn’t fond of overly sweet chocolate, An Wuyang took a small bite and quickly frowned, saying, “It’s too rich…”
He then put the cake down and decided, “Let’s not consider this one. We’ll go with the strawberry.” After all, he found the tangy sweetness of the strawberry quite enjoyable.
“Alright,” the pastry chef said, though with a hint of doubt, wondering if the chocolate cake was really that bad.
Having only taken a small bite of the chocolate cake, An Wuyang felt nauseous for the rest of the afternoon. The feeling was somewhat familiar, but he couldn’t quite place it.
“Seriously, could it be a pregnancy?” An Wuyang muttered to himself, startling himself with the thought. “No way, right?”
The frightening thought left him looking pale and anxious.
But he considered that Huo Yunchuan was already forty-nine this year, and he himself was thirty-seven, and they always used protection…
To be safe, he went to a pharmacy to buy a pregnancy test.
His emotions were a jumbled mess, unsure whether he was feeling hopeful or afraid.
Just thinking… what if it really was true?
Wouldn’t the two of them be shocked?
As he pondered this, he anxiously tugged at his hair and hoped it wasn’t true, worried that it would cause chaos.
However, the next morning, sitting on the toilet in the bathroom, he took the test and saw two lines.
“…” An Wuyang held his head in his hands, looking flushed, and took out a new pregnancy test to check again.
The result was the same as the first time.
Great, he pulled up his pants, put away the two pregnancy tests, and went back to bed for a nap—ironically, he had thought his recent tiredness was just due to the arrival of summer!
After the overwhelmed husband woke up, he found that the men and children in the house were all gone.
“Lin Aunty, where did you put the small boxes from the courier? I need two of them,” An Wuyang said, starting to work on his plan after getting up.
“Oh, they’re right here. I’ll get them for you,” Aunt Lin said, quickly handing him two boxes.
They were small, just big enough to fit a few small items, such as pregnancy tests.
After putting the items in the boxes, he wrapped them up, turning them into gift boxes tied with pink and sky-blue ribbons, making them look beautiful.
Since he wasn’t a hundred percent sure about the baby’s gender, An Wuyang used both pink and blue ribbons.
Once finished, he gave the two gift boxes to two employees at the store, asking them to deliver one to the Huo Corporation headquarters and the other to Class 3 of the senior year at X High School.
The employee from Ah Xin, wearing the store uniform, had smooth access and even received a warm welcome at the Huo Corporation headquarters.
“Hmm?” Huo Yunchuan, upon receiving the gift box, wondered what it was. Cake? But it was so small.
With curiosity and a doting heart, he put aside his work and carefully opened the gift box that seemed to be hand-wrapped by the little angel.
The moment he opened the box, Huo Yunchuan turned into a statue.
At X High School, an employee carrying a gift box approached the entrance and asked a passing male student, “Hello, can you help me call for Young Master Huo An?”
The student he stopped was none other than Lu Weichi.
Initially quite impatient, Lu Weichi’s demeanor changed completely upon hearing Huo An’s name. He immediately smiled and said, “Huo An, right?”
The employee: “Yes, thank you.”
Lu Weichi: “I’ll take it in for him.” He decisively took the gift box bag from the employee when they weren’t paying attention and carried it to Huo An’s desk.
Lu Weichi knocked on the desk, saying, “Young Master Huo An.”
The unfamiliar voice and tone seemed to carry a touch of annoyance. “What’s up?” Huo An looked up with an expressionless face and said, “Lu Weichi?”
He did recognize him from class today.
The moment Huo An looked up, he could see that Lu Weichi was holding a gift box, and he was immediately curious. He raised an eyebrow, clearly puzzled by the unexpected delivery.
“What’s this?” Huo An asked, his curiosity piqued.
Lu Weichi, with a hint of amusement, placed the gift box on Huo An’s desk and said, “A delivery for you.”
Huo An opened the box, revealing the wrapped gift inside. His eyes widened in surprise as he recognized the familiar pink and sky-blue ribbons. He took out the items and saw the pregnancy tests inside.
He stared at them, trying to process the situation. The realization hit him, and he quickly looked up at Lu Weichi.
“Is this some sort of joke?” Huo An asked, trying to keep his voice steady.
Lu Weichi shrugged nonchalantly, “It doesn’t look like it. You might want to check it out.”
Back at the Huo Corporation headquarters, Huo Yunchuan was still in shock, holding the gift box with a stunned expression. He had never expected to receive such a gift, and the contents made him even more bewildered.
After a moment of processing, Huo Yunchuan picked up his phone and dialed An Wuyang’s number, his mind racing with questions.
“Hello?” An Wuyang answered, sounding calm.
“What’s the meaning of this?” Huo Yunchuan asked, his voice tinged with concern. “Why did you send these?”
An Wuyang’s voice was soft but clear, “Just wanted to surprise you. I thought it might be a good idea to let you know in a special way.”
Huo Yunchuan’s heart skipped a beat as he realized what An Wuyang was implying. The excitement and nervousness were palpable in his voice.
“I see,” Huo Yunchuan said, trying to hide his own feelings. “Well, I guess we’ll have to talk more about this later.”
As Huo Yunchuan hung up, he looked at the gift box again, a mix of emotions washing over him. The thought of becoming a parent again filled him with both joy and apprehension.
