MMH Chapter 9

Mr. He(9)

Wen Yan is Ye Ting’s high school friend, and they are the most attractive students in their class with excellent grades. Often, students from other classes come to the window to catch a glimpse of them.

However, Wen Yan’s family conditions are not so good, and he wears clothes that have been washed to a pale color. On the other hand, Ye Ting grew up under the care of the Ye family, always shining brightly every day.

The two didn’t have any conflicts, but they didn’t interact much either. They truly became familiar in their freshman year when Wen Yan was robbed by thugs from outside the school. Ye Ting, full of justice, couldn’t bear to see his classmate being bullied, so he rushed over and fought with the thugs.

Fortunately, he usually had bodyguards with him, and the thugs were quickly dealt with.

Wen Yan had a reserved personality and didn’t have many friends. Still, Ye Ting, being warm, kind, and simple, helped him, and they became good friends over time.

During one summer vacation, Ye Ting accompanied Wen Yan to work at a coffee shop. They earned two months’ salary and bought chocolates as gifts for each family member. Ye Ting also bought a bracelet for He Jing, and then their wages were gone.

Wen Yan, on the other hand, relied on part-time jobs to pay for tuition and living expenses. He saved a lot, rarely talking about his family. Occasionally, Ye Ting heard him mention that there were only elderly grandparents at home with no source of income. He supported himself and the two elderly people by working.

Although being an extra in movies was hard work, the pay was good.

If it were usual times, Wen Yan would not refuse. But this time, he politely declined over the phone, saying, “Xiao Ting, thank you, but I have something and can’t come over to your place.”

Hearing his tone not being quite right, Ye Ting became anxious and asked, “Where are you? What happened?”

A deep male voice came from the other end of the phone, saying, “Wen Yan, come over.”

Wen Yan replied, “I’ll call you later.”

Ye Ting, seeing him hang up, couldn’t help but worry. What was the matter with that male voice just now? Did Wen Yan offend someone?

He tried to call again, but the phone was turned off.

After half an hour, Wen Yan sent him a WeChat message: [“My grandparents passed away.”]

Ye Ting widened his eyes and immediately replied: [“Don’t be sad… Are you at home now? I’ll come to you!”]

Saying this, he rushed out with his corpse makeup, preparing to ask the driver to take him back to Haicheng.

However, Wen Yan replied: [“I’m in Gangcheng.”]

On the way back, He Jing met with his assistant. There was an acquisition case next week, and he had to return to the company immediately for a meeting.

He was reading documents in the car when he received a WeChat message from Ye Ting.

The young man said he wanted to play the second male lead and asked for his opinion.

He knew the young man loved acting; otherwise, he wouldn’t be so happy even playing a corpse.

So, he quickly replied with a simple “good.”

Little did he know that the young man was dissatisfied with his attitude, thinking that he didn’t value him.

He found it somewhat amusing and could only coax the young man, telling him that he would come to see him.

The young man was clearly pleased with the reassurance, flooding him with over a dozen kissing emojis in response.

Assistant Yang Xuanyang was reporting the progress of the acquisition case to his boss. In the middle of it, he noticed his boss receiving a WeChat message, replying a few sentences, and then chuckling softly.

He was quite surprised.

Having been with his boss for several years, it was the first time he saw his boss checking his phone during a business matter and the first time he was amused by a message.

He recalled the little master of the Ye family’s moments on social media last night and the boss changing his WeChat name. He guessed that the person who just messaged the boss was the young master of the Ye family.

He Jing has three assistants: one is responsible for handling internal company affairs, another is in charge of external communications, and the third is a personal assistant.

Yang Xuanyang’s abilities are outstanding; he handles external affairs for the company, including public relations and negotiations.

Seeing his surprised expression, He Jing suppressed a smile and casually glanced at him.

Yang Xuanyang has been following He Jing for several years. Although he admires and fears He Jing, they are also familiar with each other. He couldn’t help but joke, “Congratulations, Mr. He. It seems that Xiao Yi is about to experience a heartbreak.”

Xiao Yi is Yang Xuanyang’s female secretary, with a master’s degree in finance from a prestigious overseas university. She’s young and beautiful, having been in the company for two years. She has fallen in love with He Jing at first sight, openly and secretly pursuing him. However, He Jing has never given her even a glance.

As one of He Jing’s three special assistants, Yang Xuanyang occasionally chats with the other two assistants and is aware that He Jing has someone in his heart. Later, when Young Master Ye joined the company, they found out who was in He Jing’s heart.

No matter how good Xiao Yi is, she can’t compare to the young master of the Ye family. Besides, He Jing has to like her.

There are many admirers of He Jing, countless men and women, but never has He Jing shown such a gentle smile.

He Jing ignored the assistant’s playful remark and put down his phone, gesturing for the assistant to continue the report.

Afterward, from noon until evening, he was in meetings. His plan to have dinner with his parents also fell through.

On the way home, he called his parents to inform them that he was with Ye Ting.

His parents had no objections and blessed him with a long-lasting relationship with Ye Ting.

He felt joy in his heart and returned to his villa in the western part of the city.

When he arrived home, it was already eleven o’clock at night. The property staff on duty saw his car entering and waited for him at his front gate.

He Jing was slightly surprised. Under normal circumstances, property matters would be communicated through WeChat.

The property management was very polite and respectful, saying, “Mr. He, the villa across from you will start renovations tomorrow, from 9 am to 6 pm on weekdays. If it disturbs you at other times, please remember to contact us, and we will come to handle it.”

He Jing, who has always been low-key, has lived here for several years, and the property management just found out that he is the second in command of the Zhou family, a prominent figure in Haicheng.

Due to He Jing’s status, the property management always showed great respect to him.

Fortunately, He Jing is not a troublesome person, and he has never bothered the property management in the years he has lived here.

He Jing replied, “Thank you.”

He left home at 8 a.m. and returned late at night. It wouldn’t affect him.

However, he was curious. The villa across from him had been vacant for several years, and the owner was reportedly not in the local area. How come they suddenly started renovations?

This neighborhood consists of row houses, and the distance between the two buildings is very close. He and the villa across are separated by only two vegetable gardens, about twenty meters away. Moreover, the balconies of the two houses face each other directly. If they don’t install curtains, the situation across can be clearly seen.

Fortunately, he had installed curtains, so it wouldn’t be a problem in the future.

He entered the foyer and turned on the lights.

The living room on the first floor had floor-to-ceiling windows, and opening the glass door led to the balcony. At night, the opposite side was pitch black, something he was already accustomed to. Learning about the upcoming renovations across from him did surprise him a bit.

He walked to the balcony and looked across. He found that the distance was closer than he had imagined, very close, and with his eyesight, he could see everything clearly.

If it becomes inconvenient later, maybe it’s better to move.

He thought to himself and went back to the living room to send a WeChat message to Ye Ting: [Go to bed early, don’t stay up late.]

Ye Ting was still reading the script when he received a message from the man, and couldn’t help but sigh heavily. He did want to sleep, but the script was thick, and he had to finish reading it as soon as possible. Plus, he didn’t have a manager or assistant, so he had to play scenes with himself.

Fortunately, his memory was good, and he had memorized the lines from the first ten episodes thoroughly. The director also mentioned that he would explain the story to him.

He replied to He Jing: [Good night, Jing-ge, lots of love · jpg]

Beloved Jing-ge: [Good night.]

It was another emotionless text, with no emojis at all. Ye Ting pouted and pounded on the pillow.

The next second, he received a third message from He Jing: [Heart.jpg]

Ye Ting hugged his phone and smiled foolishly.

He replied with a kissing emoji and suddenly remembered the matter with Wen Yan. He confided his worries to He Jing.

Wen Yan was a local in Haicheng, but Haicheng was to the south, and Wen Yan said someone took him in but didn’t elaborate, making Ye Ting worried.

After reading Ye Ting’s message, He Jing immediately called him, saying he would have someone look into it.

Ye Ting rolled on the sofa with his phone, feeling that his man was simply too good.

Through the phone, he kissed several times and called out softly, “Jing-ge, I love you so much.”

He Jing’s lips curled slightly, and his brows softened.

Early the next morning, the bodyguard knocked on the door to deliver breakfast to Ye Ting, along with a large thermos.

Ye Ting was curious, “Is it coffee?”

The bodyguard replied: It’s red dates and wolfberry tea, as ordered by Mr. He, to help you take care of your health.

Ye Ting: “…”

His boyfriend being an old cadre was indeed correct.

However, he gladly accepted his boyfriend’s concern. He twisted open the cup lid, touched it with his lips, and the temperature was just right. He took a sip—sweet and fragrant with the scent of wolfberries and red dates.

He took another sip and then a big gulp, feeling sweet inside.

Carrying the large thermos, he went to the set, thinking of showing affection in front of the director. However, as soon as he entered, he was pulled into the rest area by Xu Xin and a few other extras.

Xu Xin looked him up and down, saying, “Xiao Ting, we heard that you’re going to play the second male lead.”

This news was too unexpected. Ye Ting was very calm, “Yes.”

Everyone stared at him.

Xu Xin, straightforward as always, asked the question on everyone’s mind, “How did the director choose you?”

After all, although Hao Yunlong’s character was questionable, he was very popular and well-known. Ye Ting, on the other hand, was an unknown extra who was playing a corpse the day before.

Ye Ting was slightly stunned.

He didn’t want to reveal his identity too much to avoid people gossiping behind his back about entering the crew with privileges, even though he did enter with privileges. He looked down at the thermos, “The director called me over yesterday and asked if I wanted to try the second male lead… Anyway, it got settled later… I don’t know the specific reason. You can ask the director.”

Blame it on the director; let’s see how the director handles it.

He didn’t want to reveal his identity, but he also didn’t want to tell more lies to deceive people. After all, Xu Xin and the others were not bad.

Xu Xin and the others were all looking at him.

Some were sighing about such a good thing falling on his head, some had envy in their eyes, and some genuinely wished him well…

Ye Ting didn’t really care. He was used to being spoiled and never lacked friends around him. It would be nice if he could be friends with Xu Xin and the others, but if not, he wouldn’t force it.

Xu Xin silently observed him for a few seconds, then suddenly said, “If Hao Yunlong finds out about this, he’ll definitely be furious.”
