Zhu Yu suspected that Wei Ning had a crush on him and insisted on sleeping in separate beds that night to protect his chastity.
Wei Ning, exasperated, said, “You’re using my body now; what are you afraid of?” He had explained it countless times—it was just the heat of the moment, not an intentional kiss.
Zhu Yu replied, “I’m just afraid you’ll climb on top and start moving by yourself.”
Wei Ning, utterly helpless, offered, “I’ll sleep on the floor, okay?”
Zhu Yu, bashful, said, “After all, I’m an alpha now.”
Wei Ning firmly responded, “You don’t need to take care of me.” Even though he was in an omega’s body, he still had the heart of a true alpha.
Zhu Yu cheerfully agreed, “Alright.”
Wei Ning was awakened by heat. He opened his eyes, tugging at the collar of his robe—there was no way he was wearing the husky pajamas—and felt the familiar warmth. The frequency was too high. He touched his burning forehead and realized that this wasn’t just a simple heat; he had entered a full-blown rut.
If it was indeed a rut, inhibitors and temporary marks wouldn’t help—only forming a knot inside would get him through it.
Wei Ning was speechless.
He sat up and shook Zhu Yu awake, explaining the situation with a serious expression. Zhu Yu, yawning at first, was soon wide awake with shock.
“So we really have to do it?” Zhu Yu asked, “Actually, I was just teasing you before.” He was a bit panicked; even though he wasn’t an omega, he still preferred being on the bottom, especially after being one for twenty-eight years. Is it finally my turn? Zhu Yu thought, Tears of a top, can I handle it?
Wei Ning’s face darkened, cutting off Zhu Yu’s imagination. “We’re going to the hospital; don’t overthink it.”
Zhu Yu wasn’t sure if he was relieved or disappointed. “Oh.”
Wei Ning added, “Give me another bite first.” He turned his head, exposing the back of his neck.
Zhu Yu hesitated, admiring how skilled Wei Ning had become. Without delay—worried Wei Ning might get too worked up and try to kiss him or something—Zhu Yu bit down on the omega’s neck, injecting his alpha pheromones into the gland.
Wei Ning let out a soft “Ah—” and collapsed into Zhu Yu’s arms. Holding him, Zhu Yu didn’t mind that Wei Ning was drenched in sweat. This is what they call ‘glistening with sweat,’ Zhu Yu thought.
Once Wei Ning had recovered from the overwhelming sensation of their pheromones mixing, he straightened up. “Let’s go to the hospital and get some medication.” he said. Thinking of how Zhu Yu disliked using inhibitors, he added, “A soothing type of medicine, with minimal side effects.”
Zhu Yu nodded.
They woke up Lao Wang, the chauffeur, and headed to the private hospital where the Wei family had a stake. The hospital had been notified in advance, and the best omega specialist was already waiting.
On the way, Wei Ning felt the heat rising again. “Another bite.” he said to Zhu Yu.
“Stop it, Lao Wang is here.” Zhu Yu replied.
Lao Wang promptly lowered the car’s partition.
Zhu Yu glanced at the neat row of small bite marks on Wei Ning’s neck. “If I keep biting, it’ll really leave a scar.” he hesitated.
Wei Ning touched his neck and looked at Zhu Yu’s mouth but said nothing. While the alpha’s saliva wasn’t as effective as a temporary mark, it could at least offer some relief without leaving more bite marks.
Feeling Wei Ning’s sweaty palm, Zhu Yu bit the bullet and said, “I’m just doing this for my body’s sake.” Then, he puckered his lips, signaling Wei Ning to go ahead.
Nodding, Wei Ning held Zhu Yu’s shoulders and kissed him, drawing out as much of the alpha’s saliva as he could.
“Is it enough?” Zhu Yu mumbled against their connected lips.
“Not yet.” Wei Ning replied in a low voice. He hooked his arm around Zhu Yu’s neck, continuing to extract more saliva.
Zhu Yu could only let out muffled sounds.
Lao Wang drove smoothly, feeling proud. As long as they were in his car, Mr. and Mrs. Wei could do whatever they wanted without being disturbed by sudden stops.
When they arrived at the hospital entrance, neither Wei Ning nor Zhu Yu got out immediately, and Lao Wang didn’t rush them. After a while, he finally saw them get out of the car, with Zhu Yu supporting Wei Ning. Both had shiny lips.
Lao Wang wanted to help, but Zhu Yu waved him off, indicating he could handle it, and then led Wei Ning into the hospital.
Lao Wang was confused. Shouldn’t it be the other way around? he thought. Is Mr. Wei really that weak?
Zhu Yu’s legs felt like jelly, and he stumbled as he walked. “Old Wei, you’ve got some real kissing skills.”
Wei Ning remained expressionless. He had overheard Lao Wang calling Zhang Jie earlier, telling her to make sure to prepare nourishing foods for Mr. Wei. It seemed Zhu Yu had thoroughly convinced everyone that he was weak.
The omega specialist doctor saw them coming and was puzzled. “I was informed that it was the Mrs. having a heat issue.” he said, looking at Zhu Yu. “Should I call an alpha specialist instead?”
Zhu Yu shook his head. “I’m fine.”
Wei Ning sat down in front of the doctor. “I might be in a rut. I need a checkup and some medication.”
The doctor, though tempted to call an alpha specialist to examine the seemingly weak Mr. Wei, saw the seriousness in Wei Ning’s expression and knew that a rut was no laughing matter. He quickly called for a nurse to prepare the equipment for the examination.
In the middle of the checkup, Zhu Yu went to the bathroom. The doctor, seeing that Wei Ning was alone, said, “Mrs. Wei, your symptoms do seem like a rut. I remember telling you before that your body is perfectly normal, and that you would eventually experience a heat cycle. And here it is, right?”
He paused before adding, “If you had seen a psychologist earlier, you might have resolved this a long time ago. Now that you and Mr. Wei have reconciled, your pheromones are stabilizing. I think it’s clear that your condition was caused by psychological factors.”
Zhu Yu had been here for checkups before? Wei Ning was unaware of this and could only respond calmly, “I live a carefree life, eating, drinking, and playing; I have no psychological issues.” To him, Zhu Yu’s life seemed carefree—sleeping well, with the most strenuous activity being his morning dog walks. It didn’t match the profile of someone with psychological problems.
The doctor chuckled. “I haven’t forgotten that eight years ago, you took fourteen inhibitor shots in a row and cried, asking me if your body was broken and if you’d never be a normal omega again. You told me not to tell anyone, so I haven’t let a word slip. But now that you and Mr. Wei are back together, I think it’s time he knew. He’d only be more concerned for you. Keeping this to yourself only makes things worse.”
Wei Ning sat up suddenly. Zhu Yu had taken fourteen inhibitor shots? Why had he never known about this?
The doctor was startled. “Careful! Don’t get up too quickly; you’ll get dizzy.”
Wei Ning wanted to ask more about the inhibitors, but suddenly his vision went black, and all he could hear was the doctor yelling for a nurse to bring a blood pressure monitor. For the next few minutes, he was completely out.
When he came to, Wei Ning found himself sitting on a toilet seat, with his pants unzipped and a ruler in his hand, as if he had been about to measure something.
Wei Ning… was speechless. He threw away the ruler, zipped up his pants, and walked to the sink. Looking into the mirror, he saw his own face staring back at him.
He and Zhu Yu had switched back.
