PTYS Chapter 129

The Deadly G City

Xiao Muyu felt a pang in her heart. She raised her hand and hugged Shen Qingqiu, gently patting her back. “It’s okay, you see, I’m fine. Don’t worry.” Shen Qingqiu’s eyes were misty, and she said hoarsely, “Don’t do that again. I can take care of myself. As long as you’re safe, I can handle anything.”

Xiao Muyu gently pushed her away and said seriously, “Qingqiu, you’re good in every way, but there’s one thing that makes me really angry. You always think about protecting me, but you don’t take care of yourself.

Do you think I wouldn’t care if you got hurt?

Wouldn’t I be scared if something happened to you? You want to protect me, but I want to protect you too. Why can’t you understand that?”

Her expression was very serious as she continued, “I’m sorry I worried you so much, but at the time, I was relieved that it was me who got caught and not you.”

Shen Qingqiu’s face changed slightly, and she looked at Xiao Muyu with some unease. Xiao Muyu knew what she wanted to say. She sighed, “I know you’re strong and can protect yourself, but don’t always put me before you.

You’re strong, but you’re also human. If you’re cut by a knife, you’ll bleed. If you’re grabbed by a zombie, you’ll get infected. You just rushed in there without saying anything. I was really…” Mentioning this, Xiao Muyu’s breath became rapid.

“If you hadn’t just scared me so much, I’d definitely give you a good talking to when we get back.

Get rid of your habit of always charging ahead. We’re a team, and we should advance and retreat together. If you do it again, I won’t even talk to you, let alone hug you.”

She said this very seriously, but given the time and place, it wasn’t a good time to educate her girlfriend, so Xiao Muyu didn’t say more and led Shen Qingqiu into the office.

Shen Qingqiu, scolded into silence, sneaked a glance at Xiao Muyu, wanting to say something but stopping herself.

“Let’s get to work. Don’t look at me like that. I’ve already felt bad for you. Stop pretending to be pitiful.”

Xiao Muyu said lightly as she glanced at her and started looking through the desk.

Shen Qingqiu glanced at her, “I’m still scared, you know. Your sympathy is already over.”

“Stop fooling around, get to work.” Xiao Muyu couldn’t deal with her. Just now, she was like a fish in water among the zombies, attacking with speed and precision. Now she was acting all delicate and pitiful.

Seeing that Xiao Muyu was indeed fine, Shen Qingqiu felt a bit relieved. Time was short, so she also started searching the office.

“Chen Ranran eliminated!”

Suddenly, the system announced another elimination, meaning another team was still trying to clear the level.

So far, five people had been eliminated in this team instance, which was a high percentage, indicating the difficulty of this level.

However, Xiao Muyu and the others didn’t have the time to worry about others’ lives and deaths. They had to find something valuable after all their efforts. They needed to search quickly.

The desk was covered with documents, mostly reports from lower administrative departments, mainly about Noru Company’s quarterly business plans and various management systems. Xiao Muyu went through many but found nothing special.

“There’s nothing important here,” Shen Qingqiu said, opening the office drawers, which contained processed documents and file folders.

Just then, Shen Qingqiu saw a folder, neatly organized with many bound materials.

She opened one and saw the title, “Research Project Plan for Biological Equivalence of Z Reagent.” The long title didn’t mean much to her.

She continued reading patiently. Though she only half understood it, she roughly grasped that it revolved around the Z reagent mentioned in the project, outlining a series of experimental plans, such as the necessary drug research.

It included blood indicator detection ranges and biological sample analysis, which all seemed chaotic to Shen Qingqiu.

Xiao Muyu looked over and pointed to one item, “Drug regulatory department on-site inspection,” and concluded,

“It looks like they were preparing for a drug registration application, probably for a new drug developed by Noru Biopharmaceuticals. This plan is already stamped, so it must be in progress.

Judging by the timeline, it has only been two months, so the registration probably isn’t complete yet. Clinical trials would take even longer.”

Xiao Muyu wasn’t an expert in this field, but she understood some basic processes.

Shen Qingqiu turned to her, “Muyu, what did you study? How do you know so much?”

She wasn’t teasing but genuinely admiring. Throughout the five instances, they encountered all sorts of things, like a revolving lantern, magnetic fields, nine rings, and creepy nursery rhymes. There was nothing Xiao Muyu didn’t understand, like an encyclopedia recording everything.

Xiao Muyu saw the admiration in Shen Qingqiu’s eyes. Although she didn’t care about praise, hearing it from someone she liked felt different.

So Xiao Muyu, seemingly calm but with a hint of pride, said, “I’m just broadly interested. When I see something, I want to learn about it. It’s all just bits and pieces, not really knowing everything.”

This was true. That world gave her no sense of belonging, making it hard for her to get close to people. Only books and knowledge sparked her interest.

Another reason was her familiarity with these things, which felt oddly persistent. Yet, she couldn’t find the reason for this familiarity.

Shen Qingqiu never hesitated to praise Xiao Muyu, shaking her head in disagreement, “Who can solve the nine rings in three minutes with just a superficial understanding and help others too? You don’t have an accurate perception of yourself. In my opinion, my Muyu is not only virtuous but also smart and knowledgeable. How can you be so perfect?”

Xiao Muyu couldn’t take it anymore, rolling her eyes and suppressing a laugh. Shen Qingqiu stole a glance at her and added, “If only you weren’t so contrary and not so proud in front of me, you’d be perfect.”

Xiao Muyu stopped smiling, giving her a light glance, “Get back to work.”

There was nothing else in the office. Xiao Muyu read the documents a few times, put them back in the drawer, and then his gaze fell on the calendar on the desk. The calendar date was stuck on the 8th, which was yesterday.

Xiao Muyu picked up the calendar and flipped through it, noticing that the 3rd was circled in red pen. It looked like an important date marked by the owner.

“May 3rd again,” Xiao Muyu muttered, frowning.

“That’s the day you had your car accident, and also the day the first case appeared,” Shen Qingqiu said, also frowning.

Xiao Muyu nodded, closed the calendar, and noted that it was custom-made for the Noru Group. The cover featured a man in a white lab coat, with slightly graying hair and a kindly face, giving off an academic air.

After a glance, Xiao Muyu put the calendar back in its place.

“Let’s go, we’re done here.”

Having searched the office with no further information found, Xiao Muyu and Shen Qingqiu walked out. As soon as they opened the door, they saw people arguing outside, among them Chen Kaijie’s voice.

Seeing this, Xiao Muyu and Shen Qingqiu quickly walked over, only to find that another group had arrived.

It seemed that those who made it this far were no fools; they all knew something was off about this company.

“What’s going on?” Xiao Muyu asked the people who were arguing with Chen Kaijie.

Chen Kaijie’s face was cold as he looked at the people in front of him. “Tian Tian just found a key and was about to take it when someone ran over and knocked her down. By the time we looked again, the key was gone, taken by them.”

Xiao Muyu’s expression didn’t change. He just turned his gaze to the man in front of him, recognizing him as an acquaintance. It seemed some people were destined not to be honest.

“What my friend said, is it true?” Xiao Muyu asked calmly.

The man’s face darkened. “Did you really come here to cause trouble? We’re all players, we should follow the rules. Some things aren’t first come, first served. You say she saw it first, but I say I saw it first. Otherwise, how could I have gotten it before her?”

Xiao Muyu listened, coldly smiling to himself, when another male voice came over.

“It’s not easy for anyone to get in here, why ruin the peace? We all have the same goal of clearing the game, as long as we complete the tasks. The key was taken by my team member first, but we can share the information, we won’t keep it to ourselves. We’re happy to share, so there’s no need to worry, ladies. By the way, I’m Jiang Wei, their captain. May I ask who you are?”

Behind him, a tall man nearly 1.9 meters came out of an open office, holding a stack of papers. He smiled and spoke lightly to Xiao Muyu and his group, appearing friendly.

The man’s height and build were intimidating, clearly a powerhouse. There were four of them, three men and one woman, standing side by side, looking at Xiao Muyu’s group.

Though they seemed friendly, their previous actions were anything but.

Shen Qingqiu smiled charmingly, “I’m a shy person, not interested in introducing myself to strangers. But hearing you, we should thank you for your generosity?”

Because of their masks, Xiao Muyu and Shen Qingqiu looked like twins, and Shen Qingqiu’s face was particularly striking, making everyone focus on them.

“No need to be polite, we’re all in this life-or-death situation together. Let’s just get along. Time is limited, let’s get…”

“My words, you don’t understand? Did you think I was praising you? But before we talk about the documents or keys, let’s discuss who knocked someone over.”

Shen Qingqiu, impatient even with ghosts, had no tolerance for deceitful people.

She interrupted Jiang Wei’s words without mercy and asked Zuo Tiantian, “Xiao Zuo, who knocked you over?”

After Xiao Muyu closed his eyes briefly and nodded calmly, Zuo Tiantian pointed to the man next to Jiang Wei.

“If I’m not mistaken, it was him. I was just reaching up, and he suddenly came over and knocked my shoulder.”

“Should I let your captain teach you, or should I?”

Shen Qingqiu’s tone was arrogant, making the man’s face turn blue. He retorted, “I see you’re asking for trouble, picking a fight.”

Before he finished speaking, a shadow flashed before him, and he was pushed against the wall by a force. When he came to his senses, Shen Qingqiu had pinned him against the wall with a knife at his throat.

He felt a chill and pain as the knife cut his skin, making him freeze.

Jiang Wei hadn’t expected Shen Qingqiu to act so fast, and his face turned serious. This woman’s speed was beyond his ability to stop.

“I’m stubborn, don’t like the easy way. You seem the same. Now apologize to her, or I’ll use this knife that’s killed many zombies to try killing a human.”

Shen Qingqiu smiled, but it didn’t reach her eyes. Her gaze was fierce and commanding, full of charisma.

The man, feeling humiliated and cold, looked at his captain, who signaled him to apologize. Reluctantly, he gritted his teeth and said, “Sorry.”

Shen Qingqiu sneered, withdrew her knife, and leisurely stepped back, addressing Jiang Wei’s group, “This game is about killing ghosts, so act human, or don’t blame us for treating you like ghosts.”

She then took the documents from Jiang Wei’s hand without hesitation. “Since it’s shared information, let’s share it.” Jiang Wei’s face turned green with frustration. Xiao Muyu glanced at the documents; they were clinical data, side effects, and instructions for the Z reagent.

Jiang Wei’s team, especially a few men, seemed ready to fight, but Chen Kaijie and Su Jin were also ready to back Shen Qingqiu.

“By the way, we have another team here, let’s all take a look.” Shen Qingqiu, unconcerned about the impending clash, placed the documents on the table and waved to a short-haired woman.

The short-haired woman laughed, “Then we won’t be polite.” Soon, three teams were gathered, reading the documents.

Xiao Muyu quickly skimmed through, noting the drug description: a colorless, transparent liquid for treating high fever-induced vomiting, mania, and muscle pain.

Administration: intramuscular injection.
