PTGWD Chatper 1:Wife

Like the tentacles of a creature unknown.

Hospital morgue.

The pale fluorescent light shines on each of the refrigerators, reflecting the cold luster of metal. It’s very quiet around, and Fang Xingzhou can hear his own slightly heavy breathing due to fatigue, as well as the nervous swallow sounds of the staff nearby.

Besides that, there’s only the noise coming from the top refrigerator.

‘Thud’, ‘thud’, ‘thud’…

The staff member was new and had gone pale with fear. Two minutes ago, he rushed out in  panic and bumped into Fang Xingzhou, who was preparing to leave. He collapsed on the spot, hugging Dr. Fang’s leg and shouting “The dead is alive!”.

Two minutes later, he was brought back by Fang Xingzhou, who was expressionless.

The staff member was shaking like a leaf, staring intently at the top fridge, needing the support of a chair to prevent falling. He stammered, “You see, it’s… it’s real, I-I-I didn’t lie to you, maybe we should… perhaps we should move away a bit…”

Fang Xingzhou glanced at his watch, it’s almost ten o’clock at night.

He just finished an extremely long surgery, just want to go home immediately, take a hot bath, and then a good night’s sleep, rather than stay in the morgue to deal with the “haunted event”.

He helped his colleague, who could hardly stand up, put on his gloves and said lightly, “I will give feedback to the director tomorrow and ask him to arrange another pre-service training for you.”

Colleague:”…… What?”

Fang Xingzhou said, “After human death, decomposition generates gases inside the body. Under certain conditions, when these gases are expelled, it can cause the corpse to move on its own. It’s a normal phenomenon.”

“But …… but ……”

The staff member was unable to say it out.

He knows that Fang Xingzhou is right, in the days of guarding the morgue, he has seen a variety of strange corpses, but tonight he didn’t know why, he inexplicably felt creepy, as if there is a pair of invisible eyes, in mid-air and quietly staring at this place.

Between stumbling, Fang Xingzhou had already pulled open the freezer.

The slide made a clicking sound, his pupils contracted, staring at that shadowy space, his fear climbed to the peak, cold sweat swished down, his teeth clicked and knocked a few times, and then rolled, crawled, and rushed out of the morgue.

Fang Xingzhou: “……”

He frowned, ignoring his collapsing colleague, and looked down at the freezer that had been rattling nonstop.

Inside was a fresh male corpse, and the moment he looked over, the corners of the corpse’s stiff mouth hooked up into a bizarre and flattering curve, seemingly smiling towards him.

Blood coagulated on the corpse’s fingertips, leaving a few extremely conspicuous words on the fabric of the dirty clothes.

“Waiting for you to come home.”

Fang Xingzhou frowned more tightly, pinched his swelling brow, closed his eyes and opened them again.

—-At another glance, the male corpse in the freezer was as normal, there was no strange smile, there was no strange words in blood, as if the creepy scene just now was just his illusion.

He was too tired. He thought surely.

After confirming the condition of the corpse, he set the somewhat crooked body right, then pushed the freezer back in, took off his gloves, and left the morgue.

The colleague guarding the morgue was hugging the trash can at the end of the hallway and puking his guts out.

He called the shift supervisor and informed him arrange for a shift change, then exhaustingly stepped to the underground parking lot, pulling out his cell phone to order takeout as he walked.

Today’s surgery had lasted from eight in the morning to nine at night, and he’d only had two bites of bread. He is so hungry now that he is suffering a hypoglycemia-like state, and even the dead body hadn’t affected his craving for food.

Ordering enough servings for two, he found his car in the dimly lit parking lot and reached for the door.

The next second, a warm body silently wrapped its arms around his waist from behind.

A strange fragrance that was difficult to describe in words surged into his nostrils, Fang Xingzhou’s grip on the knife lurched, and his spirit slackened, replaced by a sense of irritation.

“Lu Jianchuan.” He coldly spoke.

A magnetic voice behind him, soft and tender, close to his ear, enough to make anyone’s body melt, said, “Wife, why are you just getting off work now?… I’ve been waiting until I’m almost frozen.”

Fang Xingzhou broke away from this embrace and turned around, looking at the familiar declining face in the dim light.

Even though they have been together for ten years, Fang Xingzhou still feels that his lover is not real enough, like a phantom projected from a dream to reality, gathering all his fantasies of beauty, can emerge quietly behind him like just now, also can completely dissipate at any time.

There was a brief silence. The parking lot was dimly lit by pale light, but it couldn’t hide the beauty of the person in front of him. That face was so gorgeous that it exceeded the limits of what human genes could put together, and it even surpassed gender, became a symbol of pure voluptuousness.

Under the light, his light brown pupils were transparent glass beads, gazing at Fang Xingzhou with deep affection, like a demon in stories that seduces the heart and soul of humans, making it impossible for people to say half a word of rejection.

But Fang Xingzhou can.

In his eyes, anyone is just skin, flesh, blood, and bones. He loves Lu Jianchuan, it has nothing to do with this weirdly beautiful face, but simply because he is Lu Jianchuan.

Fang Xingzhou’s lips moved slightly, tiredness overlapping with irritation, combined with the depression of losing love in the past few days, his left chest and stomach begin to be stuffy and painful.

He said, ”Need a reminder? We broke up three days ago.”

The light in the pair of glass beads went out at a speed visible to the naked eye.

Lu Jianchuan forced a smile, relying on his close to one meter nine height, he easily wrapped his arm around Fang Xingzhou’s shoulders, “Honey ……”

“Here is a hospital,” Fang Xingzhou moved away from his arm, “You can call me Dr. Fang, if you are not feeling well, register on Monday.”

Lu Jianchuan: “……”

Fang Xingzhou pulled open the car door, sat in the driver’s side, and closed the door with a bang.

As the vehicle started, a fair and slender hand got stuck between the co-driver’s window, effectively keeping the car stationary.

Fang Xingzhou frowned, turned his head to look outside, the glasses reflecting a displeased glimmer.

Lu Jianchuan almost pressed his entire face against the car glass, with only his eyes peering through the gap of the window, staring straight at the driver’s seat, as if his gaze was stickily licking Fang Xingzhou’s side face.

“Baby, give me a chance to explain,” he said anxiously, “My arranged marriage with the Wang family is not what you think.”

The term arranged marriage made Fang Xingzhou’s temples jump twice.

The stifling pain became stronger, he took a slow breath, rolled the window down a little, looked patiently at Lu jianchuan and said, “Since it’s a misunderstanding, then you go to the Wang family tomorrow to withdraw from the marriage.”

Lu Jianchuan froze.

Just this second of hesitation, a tide of disappointment surged over him, all sweet word become redundant, he took a final deep look at the window. The determination mixed in that gaze is like a sharp knife, accurately stabbing into Lujianchuan’s heart.

He stood rigid, realizing that Fang Xingzhou might be serious.

Fang Xingzhou: “Get out of the way.”

He retracted his hand like having an electric shock, looked blearily at the handsome side face, and carefully said, “Half a month, give me another half month, okay?”

Fang Xingzhou closed the car window, put one foot on the gas pedal, and left the parking lot in the wind.

……

It was already eleven o’clock when he arrived home.

Fang Xingzhou is close to being dead, after eating takeout without knowing what he actually ate, and taking a hasty shower, he collapsed on the bed and doesn’t want to move at all.

After the breakup with Lu Jianchuan, he stayed in the hospital for three whole days, refuse to go home and face the house full of traces that belong to another person, also couldn’t bring up the spirit to clean up Lu Jianchuan’s things.

On the bedside table is a picture of them together, taken on the day of their university graduation. He was wearing a bachelor’s uniform, with a light smile on his face, looking straight into the mirror. Lu Jianchuan stood next to him, wearing the same bachelor’s degree, holding a large bouquet of bright red roses in his arms. His smile was beautiful enough to make the flowers lose their color.

At the age of eighteen, they met at the university and fell in love.

At the age of twenty-eight, Fang Xingzhou thought that they would go on for the rest of their lives but waited for the news of the marriage between the second son of the Lu family and the only daughter of the Wang family.

Even on the day the union was reported, Lu Jianchuan still did everything as usual, wrapping his arms around his waist before going to bed and whispering inexplicable words of love in his ear, “Baby, I’ve thought of an excellent idea, let’s have a child!”

Thinking of this, he frowned tightly, closed his eyes in discomfort, felt the sky spinning because of over-exhaustion, and passed out semi-conscious in the confusion of thoughts.

The room was dark and quiet.

The clock ticked, ticked, ticked, ticked. In the darkness, a darker shadow began to move slowly, like the tentacles of some unknown creature. It slid quietly from the floor to the bed, wrapping itself around the unconscious Fang Xingzhou in a gesture of intimacy, longing, and unwillingness to part with him.

It was horrifying enough to drive anyone who witnessed this scene completely insane.

Fang Xingzhou slept deeply.

The shadows gently brushed across his bloodless lips, then quietly moved downward, burrowing into the blankets, causing the other side of the blanket to eerily bulge out, writhing at a strange frequency ……
