PEU Chapter 5

“There are still two hours before the tide rises, so we're asking the guests to not waste any time and find a way to escape!”

Day 5 of Provoking

Once the interview was over, Jiang Cheng and the group drove to the pier.

The drive took less than half an hour, and they arrived at the destination ten minutes before the stipulated time.

The pier was already unusually bustling with activity, with layers in and layers out of people surrounding the area.

Just as Jiang Cheng was walking towards the pier, the crowd suddenly erupted in a burst of piercing cries from excitement. The entire pier was almost upturned by the cheers.

“Aaaaaaahh gege!!! Gege arrived!!”

“I’m dying– I’m dying ah– how can gege be this good-looking!”

“Gege is in top condition!! I finally managed to see the real person himself!!”

Jiang Cheng was overwhelmed by such a scene, and he stopped to ask the PD by his side, “Did all those people come here to wait for us?”

The PD paused for a bit, then glanced over Jiang Cheng’s shoulder. He coughed lightly and corrected, “They are here for God Jian. God Jian and the others already arrived.”

When he heard those words, Jiang Cheng turned his head to look. A distance away, he caught sight of a man getting out of a car. The latter had an excellent head-to-body ratio, and although Jiang Cheng couldn’t see the man’s appearance clearly, he could tell solely from the temperament that he was different.

Oh, he was wronged.

[I can’t stop laughing, does Jiang Cheng not have any idea of his own popularity? How could all those people there be waiting for him? Even Jiang Xinghao doesn’t dare ask such a question]

[I’m so angry, did Jiang Cheng wait here on purpose to see my family’s gege? How can there be such a coincidence like running into each other!]

[I’ll bet a Buddha Jumps Over The Wall that Jiang Cheng will definitely wait where he is and wait for God Jian to come over. If not, I’ll tie myself and stand upside-down!]

[A Buddha Jumps Over The Wall costs 500 dollars! Upstairs has money! How to bet? The thousands of viewers in the room can come forward as witnesses!]

[…If Jiang Cheng just leaves, I’ll immediately smash a Buddha Jumps Over The Wall in his live broadcast room!]

[Tsk– Jiang Cheng not going over there first is already not bad, how can he just leave?]

Jian Suizhi also heard from the PD by his side that Jiang Cheng was in front, and he had to restrain the corners of his mouth from slightly curving so as not to leave a trace. This stalker was here again as expected.

He took off his sunglasses, and a pair of phoenix eyes stared straight ahead at where Jiang Cheng and his team were standing 20 or 30 metres away. He wanted to see just what kind of trouble this guy wanted to make this time!

However, in Jian Suizhi’s sight, Jiang Cheng had only just turned to look in his direction before immediately turning back again. It was as if he had seen something dirty, and he walked away at lightning speed without ever turning his head back.

Jian Suizhi, “…”

What’s the matter? Is he dirty or what? Who is that guy pretending to avoid him for!

The live broadcast room was also stunned–

[Did the sun rise in the west? Jiang Cheng actually turned around and left? Left?!]

[Where is that person who said they will smash a Buddha Jumps Over The Wall! Don’t go back on your word!]

[Wow, wuwuwu, gege, well done! So tough! Can I look forward to my gege’s love brain finally going offline? QAQ]

[Isn’t it just playing hard to get]

[Who said I would go back on my word? I will accept this loss! – Not Short of Money gave Anchor Jiang Cheng 1x Buddha Jumps Over The Wall!]

A huge bowl of Buddha Jumps Over The Wall directly occupied the entire screen, instantly clearing the barrage for five seconds!

The grand style of a local tyrant!

Jiang Cheng didn’t have the slightest idea of what was happening in the live broadcast room. He headed straight towards the pier, where several other guests were already present with their respective cameramen and PDs.

Jiang Xinghao was also there, dressed in a fashionable leather jacket and pants. Still in his trademark heavy makeup, he stood there with the image of a cool and handsome guy.

It was now autumn, but there was still a big difference in temperature. The lowest could reach ten degrees while the highest could soar as high as thirty degrees, the heat making people believe that it was still summer.

Jiang Cheng glanced at Jiang Xinghao’s outfit before silently withdrawing his gaze.

If he went to a deserted island dressed like this, even if his movements might not be affected, it was estimated that he would still feel uncomfortable to the point of choking when the time comes.

“You’re here.” Jiang Xinghao noticed Jiang Cheng’s scrutinising gaze when the latter came over. He seemed to have caught sight of a trace of pity and sympathy in the other’s gaze, making him feel slightly uncomfortable. Although his brows wrinkled, he pressed down the doubts and uneasiness in his heart.

He acted out a close brotherly relationship– with the image of a cool guy, he raised his fist and waited for Jiang Cheng to return the gesture.

The tacit understanding that a handsome guy has with the brother he grew up with.

Jiang Cheng couldn’t help but laugh at Jiang Xinghao’s appearance in his heart– this guy came to his house not too long ago to show off his might and sneered while threatening him, but he was able to change faces like this so quickly. Was this the self-cultivation of a star?

He glanced at Jiang Xinghao’s outstretched fist, paused for a moment, then opened his palm to wrap around the fist. He patted it in an intimate and comforting manner, “Mhm.”

Jiang Xinghao: ???

The nerve!!

[Huh? Hahaha, I believe that jxh definitely didn’t have this kind of intention!]

[It’s the first time I’ve seen someone turn a fist bump between brothers into a rock-paper-scissors game… Jiang Cheng is truly talented]

[I’m really speechless, our Xingxing was trying to be nice, but that person is still talented and wanted to find a sense of existence and be the center of attention]

[Xingxing is too kind-hearted, hey, promise me that you’ll be a cool guy without feelings, okay?]

[What? Who knows for sure, this could just be an inside joke between them? Fans really don’t need to blow things out of proportion]

Although Jiang Xinghao wanted to pull back his fist, he was unable to. Finally, he was so angered by Jiang Cheng’s elder brother attitude that his heavily made-up face flushed red slightly.

Unwilling to be undone, he forced a fake smile and said with a trace of mockery while maintaining the same posture, “Oh, seems like you want to be the finale.”

Those words were filled with the smell of gunpowder.

Jiang Cheng’s brows raised slightly. Although he didn’t quite understand what those words meant in this circle, it was still obvious that everything Jiang Xinghao said would contain pits.

Before he could answer, a middle-aged man looking to be in his forties and who seemed to love laughing came to his side and interrupted Jiang Xinghao.

Smiling, he put his arm around Jiang Cheng’s shoulder and said in an exaggerated manner, “Hah, some artists nowadays! Everything has been prepared already, but they still insist on arriving at the last second to steal the finale. It’s so annoying. That’s right, I named you, God Jian! Come here quickly–!”

“Just kidding. I’m Huang Daheng, coming here to meet new friends!”

Jiang Cheng had almost no resistance towards this kind of person who acted overly familiar, so he released Jiang Xinghao’s fist and shook hands with Huang Daheng. “Hello, I’m Jiang Cheng.”

“Su Nuannuan,” The gorgeous and beautiful woman next to Huang Daheng opened her mouth to say as she looked at Jiang Cheng, sizing up the latter with curiosity in her eyes.

–It was the melon king himself in the flesh! [T/N: Since JC has been the center/source of many gossip, he’s been dubbed as the melon king here

Compared to the newly emerging traffic star Jiang Xinghao, Su Nuannuan was much more interested in Jiang Cheng.

“Hello.”

Jiang Cheng nodded slightly in acknowledgement.

Jiang Xinghao’s face sank slightly, and he didn’t say anything else upon seeing this.

Su Nuannuan had a current rating of 85 in terms of popularity, receiving pretty good reviews, and was still continuously climbing the ranks;

Huang Daheng was a veteran host in the circle with high emotional intelligence and eloquence, and he possessed a wide range of connections. Not to mention famous stars, he even had a good relationship with several influential film producers and directors.

Since the seniors were all like this, what could he even say?

Jiang Xinghao lowered his eyes, revealing an appropriate trace of loneliness. It made him seem like he was being excluded to those who were unaware, and the fans in the live broadcast room immediately sent comforting words in succession.

He clenched his fists slightly. Once the Jiang family brought him back to recognize his ancestors, he would see just how those people who stood against him now would change their tunes to fawn on him later!

Not long after, Jian Suizhi crossed through the crowd of people and arrived at the pier neatly and carefully on time at two o’clock in the afternoon, becoming the finale.

The crowd of people erupted into screams when he blew a kiss towards them.

It had to be said that when a person is this good-looking, anything they did, even if it was an exaggerated action, would look suitable and pleasing to both the eye and the mind.

Jiang Cheng only took a quick glance before withdrawing his gaze, conscientiously doing his best to avoid a situation that might arouse suspicion.

Jian Suizhi greeted everyone in turn, looking like an extremely friendly and approachable person. He then finally came in front of Jiang Cheng and said with a faint smile, “Hello, I am Jian Suizhi.”

[Ah, our gege’s self-restraint ability is really top quality! Being able to keep a gentlemanly attitude in front of a certain someone is really giving that person face!]

[I feel distressed for the handsome guy for being tied up with that person]

[Is it only me who feels that Jiang Cheng didn’t show much enthusiasm towards Jian Suizhi? This manner even makes it seem like there is no association between them]

[Like I said before, he’s just playing hard to get. I really don’t believe that he can endure not being tied to God Jian for hype for so many days!]

“Since everyone is now familiar with each other, let us prepare to set off!” The program director picked up the megaphone to say. “A big thank you to our distinguished guests for coming! Our little wilderness can now officially leave. Requesting our guests to please come forward on the dock to board the ship!”

“Hi, Wilderness! Here we come!”

– Jiang Cheng had a numb expression, and was like an emotionless tool-man who could only applaud and shout.

The ship transported them all the way until they finally reached a small sandy shore.

There were already several people standing there, looking like NPCs.

“Let me make the introductions. This is the leader of our wilderness team, Song Ji-Jae, a retired firefighter from Korea who has been awarded with many international rescue medals. To his side is the translator who will follow along throughout the program to provide translation services for everyone.” The program director introduced.

When he heard those words, Jiang Cheng glanced at the sturdy man in front of him. The latter had his hands behind his back, held his chest high, and had his head raised.

It was a typical Korean face. Square-shaped face, sharp cheekbones, narrow and short forehead, as well as thin and slender eyes.

His height wasn’t considered tall, being half a head shorter than Jiang Cheng, and could be estimated to be around 1.8 metres. However, his muscles were extraordinarily sturdy and conspicuous, especially his pectoral muscles that looked extremely developed.

Song Ji-Jae greeted everyone with a slight bow, then made a loud and resonating sound that frightened the several guests. They all looked at each other helplessly, then returned a greeting in twos and threes.

“Hello everyone, I am Song Ji-Jae! We will be spending the next few days together, please give me a lot of advice!”

[Wow, these muscles! They give off a great sense of security!]

[Ah, I don’t understand. Why would a variety show from our country invite a leader from Korea?]

[I know right?? I’m speechless. Is there no capable leader from our country?]

[It might be to reflect the friendship between the two countries… Sorry, I can’t continue]

[I heard that it’s because the original version of this variety show is from Korea, and we bought the copyrights to film a remake. Did Korea add such a demand in the copyright contract?]

[emmm okay, I still can’t understand. Do they believe that if the leader of our variety show is from their country, they can look capable?]

[I suspect that they are scheming… They can’t possibly be thinking of showing the contrast between them, right? A strong and powerful leader VS inexperienced, weak and powerless team members?]

[How can a professional be compared to a non-professional? Aren’t they afraid of making people laugh to death?]

[It’s hard to say, after all, the situation is like this~ A person with evil in their heart can do anything they want]

[…]

The live broadcast room was filled with all sorts of comments, but the program recording here wasn’t affected a single bit.

It was three o’clock in the afternoon. The light from the sun wasn’t irritating to the eyes, and the sea breeze was pleasant.

The director raised the megaphone. Although he was smiling, the words coming out of his mouth were actually full of bad intentions:

“As everyone can see, the sandy shore we are currently standing on will be submerged when the tide rises.”

There was a commotion in the barrage! It will be submerged?!

Jian Suizhi and several others also seemed rather dumbfounded. They didn’t expect that the program would pit them right from the start.

The director then added, “There are still two hours before the tide rises, so we’re asking the guests to not waste any time and find a way to escape!”

[Wtf, so stimulating?? Finding a way to escape from the shore right at the start???]

[I’m laughing so hard, Huang Daheng lost complete control over his expression]

[It can’t be, it can’t be, a group of ordinary people with no professional knowledge and preparation, hey, even if a big shot firefighter is in the team, they can’t handle it, right??]

[Be a bit more clear-headed! This is a variety show, not a real survival in the wild. There has to be a back-up plan from the program team]

[I hope that our guests will fight for our country’s honor and not let the Korean oppa look down on us!!!]
