Just after ending the call with Nan’s father, Gu Zhenzhen called.
“Jinchen, do you need help on your end?” Gu Zhenzhen asked with concern, aware of the challenges with the board.
Nan Jinchen reassured her, “Everything’s fine here. Don’t worry; it’ll be resolved soon.”
After calming Gu Zhenzhen, Nan Jinchen instructed Li Rui to convene a board meeting.
The next day, with the directors eager, the board convened, including Nan’s father.
As the directors arrived, a sense of impending storm swept through the company.
Sure enough, as the CEO, Nan Jinchen faced challenges from the board immediately.
Most directors, having earned from the IPO, were detached, their loyalty limited by shares.
Some directors worried for Nan Jinchen, but many observed from a distance.
Nan Jinchen presented data and explained the pros and cons, asserting the company’s improvement without certain directors.
Directors, motivated by financial interests, were concerned about the young CEO disrupting the established group.
Nan Jinchen’s vision faced skepticism, especially from those who valued stability over change.
Despite presenting plans, many directors remained unconvinced, reluctant to deviate from the familiar path, prioritizing stability over growth.
You can’t say their thoughts are wrong; it’s just that compared to the proactive approach of Nan Jinchen, both sides seem somewhat incompatible.
“Jinchen, as the CEO and your family being the largest shareholder, if you insist on your own way, we won’t be able to resist you. But please forgive us uncles; we can’t accompany you,” apologized a director who had worked with Nan’s father in the past. Compared to external directors, they were the first to withdraw, feeling a slight sense of shame but unwilling to face the consequences of Nan Jinchen’s potential failure.
Friendship is one thing; interests are another.
They didn’t want to experience the feeling of falling to dust at this stage of their lives.
Despite examples of wealthy individuals in their decades making a comeback after bankruptcy, those were exceptions.
Nan Jinchen didn’t object to their cautious mentality. With a good temper, he said, “If you uncles want to exit, I will offer a satisfactory price to take over your shares.”
The directors felt a lump in their hearts; they didn’t want to leave; they just wanted Nan Jinchen to abandon his radical plans.
Subconsciously, they looked at Nan’s father, who remained silent from start to finish. Nan’s father shook his head slightly towards them without intending to speak, dimming the expectations in the directors’ eyes.
Some directors sighed and left; most were familiar with Nan’s father and considered they had earned enough in their lives, not wanting further upheaval.
There were also directors who stayed, not because they believed in Nan Jinchen but because they trusted Nan’s father.
After all, if Nan Jinchen messed up the group, Nan’s father would undoubtedly step in to clean up the mess.
In the end, it was the directors with little emotional attachment to the group who could objectively assess Nan Jinchen’s plan.
Investment is like that – it can either succeed or fail. Before the dust settles, everything is unknown, testing the investor’s judgment.
Directors who came in through the IPO had assets elsewhere, showing better risk resistance than those holding original shares. After evaluating Nan Jinchen’s new plan, these directors prioritized rationality, whether leaving or staying.
“Hope President Nan can bring us a different surprise.”
“Definitely,” Nan Jinchen replied with a smile.
Most of the departing directors were on Nan Jinchen’s anticipated list, and their departure was seen as more beneficial than detrimental to his plan.
After most of the directors left, Nan’s father spoke but avoided discussing work with Nan Jincheng, “The wedding house for you and Zhenzhen has been decorated. After the wedding, you can move in.”
“Alright, thank you, Dad and Mom.”
“You seem to have grown up suddenly during this period. If not for my certainty that you are my son, I might hesitate to recognize you,” Nan’s father said with a complex expression.
It’s not that he couldn’t recognize his son; it’s just that his son underwent significant changes recently, shedding the superficial and becoming more mature and steady.
Before, Nan Jinchen didn’t prioritize the company’s development much, and his father knew that very well.
Nan Jinchen’s identity wasn’t something acquired through deception; it was bestowed by destiny, without any so-called flaws. Nan Jinchen was not nervous at all, “Of course, I’m married now. If I’m not more steady, how can I support my wife?”
Nan’s father relaxed his brows upon hearing this, recalling that his son became more steady after meeting his daughter-in-law. He smiled, “For the sake of the family, you must work hard.”
“Rest assured, Dad.”
“You boldly move forward, and I’ve got your back.”
With Nan’s father’s support, Nan Jinchen’s plan was soon put into action.
Nan Jinchen’s daily working hours remained the same, but the number of professionals around him increased.
“Sir, the front desk received an invitation to a charity auction. Would you like to attend?” Li Rui asked.
“Charity auction? Put it aside. Arrange some time for me to come out,” Nan Jinchen replied.
It wasn’t that he was interested in the charity auction; he suddenly thought about taking some time to accompany his wife.
Although they hadn’t held the wedding ceremony yet, they had already obtained the marriage certificate. After the house was decorated, Gu Zhenzhen had taken the initiative to set up their future home.
Looking at himself, Nan Jinchen felt a bit guilty for not fulfilling his responsibilities as a husband.
“Sir, your secondary card has been processed and delivered. Should I send it to Mrs. Gu now?” Li Rui suggested.
“No need. Give me the card; I’ll personally deliver it,” similar to the last time when Gu Zhenzhen handed him the ring.
Nan Jinchen accelerated his work, leaving the office near the end of the workday.
As soon as the car pulled out, a drizzle started falling from the sky. Nan Jinchen decided to directly go to the Gu family’s company to pick up Gu Zhenzhen.
After reaching the destination, Nan Jinchen called Gu Zhenzhen and coincidentally caught her preparing to call a cab after work.
Holding an umbrella, Gu Zhenzhen walked over, and by the time she got into the car, her clothes were already somewhat damp.
“Do we have clothes at home?” Nan Jinchen was referring to their marital home.
After obtaining their marriage certificate, Gu Zhenzhen had been gradually bringing her belongings to their home, but it seemed there weren’t many clothes as she continued to make new purchases.
“Yes, there are clothes. I’ll change when we get home,” Gu Zhenzhen blushed a bit. As the rain outside intensified, she had a feeling that she might not be able to leave tonight.
Upon reaching home, Nan Jinchen handed a towel to Gu Zhenzhen for her to dry her hair. He then asked her to change clothes in the bedroom while he went to the kitchen to prepare ginger soup to ward off the cold.
When Gu Zhenzhen finished bathing and changed into a new outfit, she saw Nan Jinchen had already prepared the ginger soup.
Upon seeing the ginger soup, Gu Zhenzhen wrinkled her petite nose since she happened to be someone who didn’t like ginger.
“Drink it quickly. After you finish, I’ll cook something delicious for you,” Nan Jinchen called from the kitchen.
Knowing that Nan Jinchen had her well-being in mind, Gu Zhenzhen cautiously picked up the bowl and, hesitantly, slowly finished the ginger soup.
The ginger soup induced perspiration, warming her body after consumption. Gu Zhenzhen stuck out her tongue to relieve the spiciness left by the ginger.
When Nan Jinchen finished cooking and came out, Gu Zhenzhen asked, “Why did you finish work so early today?”
“Not much work today. I thought it was about time to pick you up.”
“Oh, by the way, I have something for you.” Nan Jinchen took out the newly processed secondary card, essentially handing over his financial authority.
Although Gu Zhenzhen wasn’t short of money, Nan Jinchen’s proactive attitude won her favor.
For a rich and good-looking husband who treated her well, which wife wouldn’t like that?
With both husband and wife being considerate, their days naturally wouldn’t be too bad.
The rain outside continued, and it seemed like it wouldn’t stop for a while. After dinner, Gu Zhenzhen opened the curtains and said, “I won’t be going home tonight; I’ll sleep here. Let me call home to inform them.” After saying this, Gu Zhenzhen’s face turned red because the statement sounded quite suggestive.
“Are you going to sleep in the master’s bedroom or the guest room?” Nan Jinchen asked.
“I am the lady of this house; what do you think?” Gu Zhenzhen said with a slightly dangerous smile. It would be quite a loss if Nan Jinchen suggested the lady of the house sleep in the guest room.
“But the master’s bedroom is where I stay…” Nan Jinchen muttered softly after Gu Zhenzhen left.
This house was closer to his office, so he usually stayed here. If Gu Zhenzhen stayed in the master bedroom, they would sleep together at night.
However, both had already obtained their marriage certificate, making them a legitimate couple. Even if something happened, it wouldn’t be a big deal.
Nan Jinchen wasn’t sensitive to the impending situation; after all, he had enough self-control. However, it didn’t mean that Gu Zhenzhen had the same level of restraint when faced with such a tempting prospect.
Why did Gu Zhenzhen’s favorability towards him soar? His handsome face played a significant role.
Nan Jinchen’s physique also earned him a perfect score.
