Bai Sijun frowned. After his brain started functioning normally again, he realized how absurd the things he had done with Mei Yuchen were.
Mei Yuchen claimed it was mutual help between friends, but Bai Sijun knew he would never do such things with any friend. Even if, for the sake of argument, two male friends helped each other out, no one would go as far as licking each other’s chest.
He understood that Mei Yuchen didn’t see him as a friend but as an object of pleasure for such activities.
Although this experience brought him unprecedented pleasure, like opening the door to a third new world, he faintly felt that stepping through this door would lead him into an irreversible abyss.
Bai Sijun silently grabbed tissues and wiped away the traces on his lower abdomen, his movements somewhat stiff. Mei Yuchen seemed to sense that something was off and sat up, asking, “Bai?”
Bai Sijun picked up the pants Mei Yuchen had thrown on the ground, put them on, and then handed two tissues to him, saying expressionlessly, “Wipe yourself too.”
Mei Yuchen pursed his lips and didn’t speak. Watching Bai Sijun, it was as if he was looking at an unfeeling scumbag.
Bai Sijun felt a headache coming on. He frowned slightly and said, “Clean up and put your clothes on.”
At this moment, Mei Yuchen was occupying almost half of the small single room. Bai Sijun didn’t know where to look in the cramped space.
Mei Yuchen silently took the tissues and started cleaning up, while Bai Sijun went to the bathroom to freshen up. When he returned, Mei Yuchen had already changed back into his original clothes, sitting with a serious face at the desk, lost in thought.
“Go wash up too,” Bai Sijun said.
Mei Yuchen looked up at him, his gaze devoid of warmth, and asked, “Do you find me disgusting?”
Bai Sijun was taken aback; he hadn’t really thought about it. Realizing later, as a straight guy, he should probably be repulsed, but why was he so satisfied that he couldn’t even think straight?
Not daring to dwell on it, he looked at the floor and said softly, “No.”
“You’re lying,” Mei Yuchen immediately retorted.
“I’m not,” Bai Sijun said helplessly. He looked up, met Mei Yuchen’s scrutinizing gaze, and uncomfortably turned to the window. “…It’s not as bad.”
“Really?” Mei Yuchen squinted his eyes, asking with some disbelief.
“Yeah,” Bai Sijun replied softly, his face turning slightly red.
“So, will we do it again in the future?” Mei Yuchen’s tone suddenly became cheerful, and Bai Sijun stared at him, giving a warning call, “Mei Yuchen!”
He couldn’t handle Mei Yuchen taking advantage of the situation, so he had to remind him to be more self-aware.
“Fine,” Mei Yuchen pursed his lips, looking somewhat dejected with his phoenix eyes drooping. “Got it.”
Seeing Mei Yuchen looking so dejected, Bai Sijun couldn’t help but soften. He walked over to him, inexplicably pinched his earlobe, and comforted him, “Hurry up and wash up. I’ll buy breakfast.”
Mei Yuchen raised his head to look at him, a sly gleam in his eyes. Bai Sijun suddenly realized that his pitiful appearance just now was all an act.
He quickly withdrew his hand, and Mei Yuchen, with a bent corner of his mouth, said, “Okay.”
After breakfast, Mei Yuchen lounged on Bai Sijun’s bed, not moving. Bai Sijun packed up the takeaway, and subconsciously asked, “Where do you want to go today?”
As soon as the words were out, he felt strange. He used to resist spending both weekend days on a girlfriend, wanting time for his own interests. But at some point, he had come to habitually think of his weekends as belonging to Mei Yuchen.
This wasn’t right.
Upon careful consideration, he used to visit Mei Yuchen on weekends to supervise his writing. But now, he was thinking of taking Mei Yuchen out, which seemed a bit upside down.
Mei Yuchen lay on his side on the bed, propping up his head and looking at him, in a good mood as he asked, “want to go on a date?”
“No date,” Bai Sijun hurriedly denied, awkwardly changing the subject, “Haven’t you been to a bookstore in a long time? Come with me to the bookstore today.”
He thought going to the bookstore might inspire the aspiring writer’s enthusiasm for writing. More importantly, it made the idea of the two of them going out alone seem more natural.
Mei Yuchen obviously didn’t think as much as Bai Sijun did. He fussed in front of the dressing mirror for a while and seemed unsatisfied in the end. He said to Bai Sijun, “Bai, lend me your electric razor.”
Bai Sijun’s eye twitched. He suddenly realized that Mei Yuchen looked like he was getting ready for a date.
While handing the electric razor to him, Bai Sijun said, “Stop fussing. You’re already handsome enough.”
Mei Yuchen paused with the razor in hand, then smirked and said, “Give me more compliments; I want to hear them.”
Bai Sijun turned away, facing the wardrobe, and muttered uncomfortably, “You’re pushing it again.”
Since everything that should and shouldn’t be seen had already been exposed, Bai Sijun didn’t bother being coy. He changed into his outing clothes directly in front of Mei Yuchen.
It was only when they were about to leave that he suddenly realized, why did he put on his most handsome outfit.
He looked at himself meticulously dressed in the dressing mirror with a complex expression. He was about to change his clothes again when Mei Yuchen, sitting on the edge of the bed, lazily said, “You look exceptionally good today.”
He had heard Mei Yuchen say this before, but back then, he didn’t pay much attention. However, today, for some reason, he felt a bit embarrassed. Mei Yuchen’s words were like little claws scratching an itch in his heart. He coughed and said to Mei Yuchen, “Let’s go.”
The large bookstore nearest to Bai Sijun’s home was about two kilometers away. Since part of the route was a one-way street, driving would mean taking a detour. Therefore, the two decided to walk.
The streets on Sunday morning were a bit deserted, and the late April sunlight was just right. The red brick road beneath their feet was Bai Sijun’s daily route to work, and he had walked it countless times. But today, with someone by his side, it felt different.
“Bai, who’s your favorite author?”
“Bai, what do you think of my debut work?”
“Bai…”
Bai Sijun stopped in his tracks, looking at Mei Yuchen with a puzzled expression. “You’re talking a lot today.”
Mei Yuchen also stopped and turned to him, smiling with a raised corner of his mouth. “Is that not allowed?”
The sunlight outlined gentle golden threads in Mei Yuchen’s hair, casting a dazzling filter over his faint smile.
Bai Sijun stared blankly at his smile, and suddenly, the thick fog in his heart seemed to be dispersed by a ray of sunlight. Those jumbled and blurry thoughts gradually became clear at this moment.
He could leave Liang Ru standing in place at a restaurant just a few steps away because of a call from Mei Yuchen.
He could rush over in the middle of the night to comfort him when he needed companionship.
His initial dedication to Mei Yuchen came from his responsibility at work and not wanting to see such a bright star fall.
But at some point, he seemed to forget his original intentions and only thought about how to treat Mei Yuchen well.
He was well aware that being good to Mei Yuchen was not about making him grateful to speed up his manuscript submissions; he simply didn’t want to see him unhappy.
Mei Yuchen was not a complicated person; his happiness and unhappiness were written all over his face, just like now.
Bai Sijun only realized at this moment that his emotions seemed to fluctuate with Mei Yuchen’s mood.
Although he was slow to warm up in matters of the heart, he wasn’t dull-witted.
If he wasn’t mistaken, this might, possibly, probably be the feeling of love.
It seemed like he had fallen for Mei Yuchen.
