“Really, letting a little bug slip away so easily,” Hest complained loudly.
Li Xi raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms, and said coolly, “Stop with the sarcastic comments. What exactly are you two planning?”
He paused, then added, “I must be right—it was you who intruded into my world.”
“Because it’s fun,” Hest replied with a grin.
“I don’t find it amusing,” Li Xi narrowed his eyes. “Besides, playing cat and mouse like this—do you really find it entertaining?”
“Absolutely,” Hest replied without hesitation.
This sounded even more false. Li Xi didn’t expect them to tell the truth but smirked coldly. “If that’s the case, you should have had enough fun by now. Can you leave my world?”
“No,” Moduna interjected suddenly. “The two worlds have already merged. Even though it’s based on the world you created, it’s now also ours. You have no right to make us leave.”
Li Xi’s gaze darkened. “So, you’re determined to interfere?”
Duan Zhen and the others exchanged a look, knowing that a fight with the twins was inevitable.
He slipped his hand into his pocket, gripping the weapon inside. His arm muscles tensed, ready to attack at the slightest sign of trouble.
“It’s a pity. I thought we could at least maintain a facade of friendliness,” Li Xi said coldly.
“It’s not too late to change your mind,” Hest said, his smile unchanged. He let go of Moduna’s hand, and the two boys exchanged a glance. It seemed they made a decision in that instant and attacked simultaneously.
As ancient demons, they knew the first rule in fighting a mage was to get close—magic takes time to cast. Even for someone at Li Xi’s level, this weakness couldn’t be avoided.
Of course, Li Xi’s casting time was very short, just an instant for ordinary people. But for demons, that instant could be critical in a battle.
Li Xi understood this, so when the twins moved, he swiftly retreated.
Dan Zuo watched from the side, seeing the three of them turn into blurs. His brain knew they were fighting, but his body couldn’t keep up with their speed.
It is a war between demon lords, he thought.
But the next moment, the person beside him moved, darting forward like a sleek panther, matching the speed of the others.
A few seconds later, as their speed slowed, Dan Zuo finally saw the fight clearly.
Li Xi was being protected behind someone, one hand slightly raised, the tips of his fingers glowing faintly.
Though dim, the light had a significant impact.
“Are you sure you want to break ties with us over some human?” Moduna pressed his pale hand against his eyes, his expression pained.
“Correction, he’s my lover, not just some human,” Li Xi said with a frown.
“Does it make a difference? In the end, you’ll be separated,” Moduna said, breathing heavily. He lowered his hand and looked directly at Li Xi but then seemed to be hurt by the light, averting his gaze. “Your brief romance is just a diversion in your long life. Is it worth ruining our friendship over him?”
“False friendship,” Li Xi shrugged, “But my love is real.”
Moduna’s green eyes glowed slightly, sharp and piercing. He shed his usual guise, revealing his true nature.
As demons who slaughtered an entire kingdom before transforming, they weren’t just prank-loving boys with constant smiles.
Demons enjoyed seducing humans, watching their painful choices, their despair, and their self-destruction. This was their best entertainment, exploiting human weaknesses and driving them mad.
Their malice was hidden beneath their youthful looks and smiles.
“Sometimes, loving too deeply isn’t a good thing,” Hest suddenly said.
Unnoticed, he had approached Duan Zhen and Li Xi, only half an arm’s length away.
Startled, Li Xi quickly retreated, pulling Duan Zhen with him.
But it was too late. Black mist emanated from Hest’s palm, enveloping them like fog.
Li Xi reacted swiftly, using magic to disperse the mist. Simultaneously, Duan Zhen lunged forward, pulling him out of the mist’s reach.
“No need to be so tense,” Hest said as they fell into his trap. “It’s nothing harmful to the body, just my power helping you unlock your seal.”
His tone was casual, but his words were nuanced. “Perhaps your love can help you suppress your nature and let him go.” Li Xi clutched his head, trying to shake off the flooding memories.
“Are you okay?” Duan Zhen asked nervously, lightly touching Li Xi’s forehead, hesitant to check further.
“Nothing serious,” Li Xi said, his expression unchanged.
The memories were only a few months’ worth, a brief period for him, absorbed in an instant.
Then he fell into contemplation.
Their fight was loud, attracting a few others, some mirror images and some real teammates.
“Everyone’s here,” both Sun Le said simultaneously.
Duan Zhen glanced at them, then without hesitation, pinned one to the ground. A few punches later, it shattered into fragments and dissipated.
That was Xia Qirong’s mirror image. Though Duan Zhen had targeted the right one, Xia Qirong couldn’t help but shiver, feeling a chill down his spine.
“Brother Duan, how did you know it wasn’t me?” Xia Qirong asked, then muttered, “If you got it wrong, I would’ve been beaten for nothing.”
“The aura was different,” Duan Zhen said solemnly. He looked at the other mirror images, but before he could act, they began retreating.
“Don’t bully my cute little toys,” Hest raised an eyebrow. “You should worry about your safety instead.”
“Toying with others’ emotions, watching them suffer—do you feel proud of controlling their lives? Your interests are quite low,” Duan Zhen said, seeing Li Xi standing still, eyes tightly shut, as if suppressing something, anger surging within him.
He knew what Li Xi was suppressing. Long ago, Li Xi told him the memory seal was to suppress his love. If the seal broke, his intense love might make him do things against his will.
Duan Zhen understood that “against his will” meant making him stay in this world, staying by Li Xi’s side.
“You don’t need to hold back,” Duan Zhen ignored the twins and tightly hugged Li Xi. “I love you.”
Rarely did he express his feelings so directly. After a pause, he continued, “Whatever you want to do, I’m willing.”
