Chapter 59

If you’re in trouble and feeling anxious, never shout to the sky about bad luck or any other nonsense like that, because usually, fate will go out of its way to prove you wrong!

The American soldiers who failed to grab lifeboats and were abandoned along with the aircraft carrier were initially confident.

Whether it was the congressmen or the government, they absolutely wouldn’t allow the symbol of the nation’s power and wealth, the aircraft carrier, to be abandoned like this.

But as days passed, two months after the aircraft carrier’s accident, they finally fell into despair, as if the world had suddenly abandoned them. The vast ocean stretched out before them, with not a living soul in sight.

It was utterly illogical, as if the aircraft carrier and escort ships had all stalled simultaneously, and no one could figure out why. There was no communication signal, no way to contact rescue teams, not even a chance to patiently wait.

The next day, the deck was covered with the bodies of their colleagues!

—They had been sailing in the Pacific Ocean, not heading to the Atlantic! Absolutely not entering the Bermuda Triangle!!

The sudden appearance of the octopus Abiseth shattered their nerves and beliefs.

Was this really still Earth?

The dozen or so survivors desperately swam to the island, without even the relief of having survived a disaster, shivering in the wind.

The moonlight wasn’t very bright, but it clearly illuminated the grounded aircraft carrier and the terrifying prehistoric giant octopus with its entire body covered in blue circles, which nobody would believe was not poisonous.

Its tentacles spread out in all directions, each one capable of easily catching a dozen fish and stuffing them into its mouth.

One tentacle, left free, angrily pounded the sea surface, causing massive waves. This made the survivors think the monster was hungry but angry at them for some reason. They didn’t dare to stay near the shore and quickly ran towards the center of the island.

Meanwhile, the Siren was saying…

“Stop crying while you’re eating!”

“Who said I’m crying?”

Abiseth retorted angrily, a few tentacles immediately swinging over.

Thomas broke out in a cold sweat.

Maybe the speed of the mermaid was so fast that he didn’t care about these things, but this kind of playfulness still posed a deadly threat to humans…

Well, at least not to him.

The sea suddenly surged backward, slamming the giant octopus down into the sea. At the same time, the Siren swam over and punched the octopus on the head.

“Say it again!” she demanded.

“I wasn’t crying… I was expelling excess water from my body…”

Abiseth dejectedly extended its tentacles in front of Xia Yi. Its tentacles were very long, and as it handed them over, there were several half-meter-long fish wriggling and twitching.

Xia Yi found it very strange, but before he could see clearly, the Siren directly slapped the fish and tentacles onto Abiseth’s head.

“You’re giving back the half-eaten food to Xia Yi?”

“I didn’t even put it in my mouth… Besides, I don’t have teeth!”

“What’s in the suction cups of your tentacles? Only Neptunes without eyes would be fooled by you!”

“Teeth grow in the mouth, this isn’t—”

Abiseth suddenly felt something was wrong and quickly withdrew its tentacles, swallowing all the fish, seemingly afraid that Xia Yi would object to the Siren’s opinion and come to demand them.

“These are just used for cutting… Ah, right, the kind of knife used to cut steaks that humans talk about, how can it be teeth? Like the barbs on the arms of a Eurypus, it’s just a knife to keep food from escaping!”

Enough, the food served by humans doesn’t run away!

Xia Yi thought, this octopus was actually very clever.

It even knows what a steak is and knows to use a knife to cut it!

Wait a minute, no, his thoughts were completely messed up! It should be that it’s so good at sophistry. At least Xia Yi felt he was far inferior.

But the Siren still defeated Abiseth with just one sentence: “Are you human?”

In the tropical waters, the wind wasn’t too strong at night, but the temperature difference between day and night was very noticeable. Many marine creatures quieted down.

It wasn’t because they had the good habit of living during the day and sleeping at night, but because without sunlight, plankton wouldn’t gather in large numbers on the sea surface. They were at the end of the food chain in this vast world, affecting all life activities.

Xia Yi had a deep impression of the images of military machinery and ships displaying military power. He couldn’t be considered a military enthusiast, but compared to concerts and entertainment shows, he just preferred movies.

He had seen the small Eagle-class aircraft carrier in “Pearl Harbor,” but no matter how realistic and high-definition the movie was, it couldn’t match the feeling of being there in person.

This aircraft carrier, over three hundred meters long, was diamond-shaped near the command tower, with two flight decks, one slightly longer and one slightly wider.

More accurately, the aircraft carrier was an irregular polygon. Xia Yi estimated that it was about as tall as a thirty-story building in the city.

Indeed, it was big enough for Abiseth to roll around on the deck!

The octopus could casually extend its tentacles and reach the deck, but Xia Yi had to swim for half a day. Finally finding the gangway, it was still over ten meters above the sea surface. Even Olympic high jump champions couldn’t jump onto it without a run-up and support pole.

—Indeed, the height of the ship was also a headache.

Helpless, he had to use the old method. Within five minutes, the sea level silently rose by nearly twenty meters, and the surrounding seawater decreased significantly. Abiseth was forced to migrate along with the waves.

After Xia Yi reluctantly grabbed the gangway, he found it too slippery, and the damn angle made it impossible to stand still with just the strength of his hands. He didn’t understand the training of the Marine Corps.

Forming a water wall of more than twenty meters was his limit.

Xia Yi had no choice but to give up. Perhaps he should study how to lift the aircraft carrier from its stranded state.

“You could actually stand on Thomas’s back.”

Xia Yi didn’t want to respond, but he couldn’t help it: “Where is it?”

The Siren carefully recalled the location of the sound waves just now and then said, “Not too far, in the Indian Ocean.”

Was that considered not too far?!

“Abiseth.”

The octopus pretended not to hear.

“I’ll return the ship to you in the future!” Xia Yi had just finished speaking when he saw the octopus rushing over eagerly.

Ten minutes later, because the Siren stubbornly clung to his arm, Xia Yi had to climb onto the flight deck of the aircraft carrier with difficulty, with a merman tightly holding onto him. Abiseth kept rubbing the hull with its tentacles, unwilling to leave.

Without the support of supernatural powers, the water wall suddenly collapsed and rushed in all directions, causing the coconut trees on the island to sway violently. The extent of this raging sea scared the people hiding on the island, who kept chanting about God.

“Xia Yi, you lied to me too—”

The octopus, washed away by the waves, plunged into the seabed.

“I’ll return the ship to you in the future.”

Facing such a behemoth, Xia Yi really didn’t know how to explain the problem of insufficient supernatural power to move the aircraft carrier. He could only repeat what he had just said.

But to Abiseth, it didn’t sound like that at all.

“Later? What does later mean? Three days is later, many years is also later.”

“Siren, you’ve corrupted Xia Yi! He wasn’t like this before!”

In the underground base of City B, the supernaturals were suddenly shaken by this sound wave.

This was torture, ever heard the story of people upstairs throwing shoes?

At least that’s two shoes, and you could bear it until they stopped throwing. But these damn sea monsters, they didn’t care about day or night, no signs at all.

They just kept chatting, are you all insomniacs?

At this point, they envied those who had supernatural powers but were not strong enough to hear the subsonic waves!

If this continues, how many people will suffer from mental breakdowns?

In City B, four supernaturals who could hear subsonic waves worked three shifts, with one person always responsible for recording the content of the subsonic waves for the old professors in the scientific academy.

This shift wasn’t too tiring, you could sleep anytime, because the subsonic waves would always wake you up. Unluckily, even those not on duty were awakened.

Damn it, they still didn’t know if these sea monsters were going to say something or chat for a long time.

“Shit! I don’t care what your research on sea monsters is all about, what’s the point!!”

A team leader from the European Union shook the head of the research institute vigorously.

“Develop a helmet that shields subsonic waves as soon as possible! Or something else, getting scared in the middle of the night is not a big deal, but getting scared while fooling around with women, can you still handle that?!”

“The material that can fully absorb subsonic waves, on Earth… doesn’t exist yet!”

“Why doesn’t Satan strip those damn sea monsters and take you all to hell! You guys only know about funds all day long, and after the apocalypse, you need resources. What have you researched? Can’t even accomplish this?”

“All the high-tech achievements… are now scrapped…”

“Damn it!”

See, this damn subsonic wave, it only appeared once again and then went silent.

But it’s only been an hour since the last widespread subsonic wave echoed, well, if it’s a sea monster group chat, it’s just been an hour. God knows if it’ll happen again after an hour!

The only person in the world who doesn’t have this annoyance was Xia Yi.

He stood on the deck of the aircraft carrier, feeling sincerely insignificant, with a row of F22-marked fighter jets in front of him, their silver streamlined shells exquisite and cool, yet exuding an indescribable strength and beauty.

These were said to be the most advanced fighter jets in the world, now lined up in front of Xia Yi. Besides not being able to start them up, you can touch them however you want, bang them randomly, crawl in and press the buttons on the precise instrument panel- nothing happens.

Since the apocalypse, Xia Yi, who has been at sea all along and felt little about the collapse of civilization, finally realized that this was an era of chaos where you can pick up things randomly, and whoever picks it up owns it. Even if the country recovered and society stabilizes in the future, aircraft carriers and airplanes will just be a pile of scrap metal.

Well, at least this powerless aircraft carrier can still accommodate people.

It’s definitely much bigger than the Tarasov Goddess cruise ship. From the estimated height, there will be at least ten floors below the flight deck.

Hmm, there’s this feeling of choosing where to live from now on?

Too unreal.

Feeling a bite on his wrist, Xia Yi suddenly snapped back to reality.

The Siren looked at the cold machinery all around with no interest. He couldn’t understand why Abiseth and Xia Yi both liked these kinds of ships.

The pale silver fish tail gently tapped, propping himself up with his elbow, but he could only sit. At this moment, the mermaid was quite unhappy seeing Xia Yi standing there lost in thought.

Xia Yi sat down beside him. The view was excellent, and he could see the distant islands and the large octopus lingering in the seawater very clearly. And from a distance, the fighter jets were more conspicuous than them.

“What are you looking at?”

“F22…”

Xia Yi couldn’t help but go over to touch it as if enchanted, the feel was just too good.

No wonder it’s worth over two hundred million dollars per aircraft, equivalent to 13 tons of gold, it wouldn’t make sense if it wasn’t extraordinary.

“What is this used for?”

“…It can fly into the sky.”

Xia Yi thought for a moment, that’s the only way he could answer.

The Siren looked blankly at the dark sky.

Forgive the sea monsters for not understanding what’s worth looking at in the sky, it seems like there’s nothing but bunches of clouds up there. The ocean was much better, as long as whatever swims by can be eaten.

“Do you like this?”

“Not really…”

Xia Yi used to like things he couldn’t touch, but now that he sees it, it’s nothing special.

Xia Yi suddenly looked fixedly at the F22 fighter jet,

“They’re a lot like you!”

Beautiful silver, sleek wings, from the front, they look like birds of prey.

The Siren looked at the pile of cold steel inexplicably.

Human aesthetics were really strange.

But—Is the reason Xia Yi can’t take his eyes off these things because of him?

His sharp nails suddenly grasped Xia Yi’s wet collar tightly, pulling him forcibly closer, close enough to feel each other’s breath, their damp hair touching their cheeks, almost blending together.

“Rip!”

The already torn shirt couldn’t withstand this tug and was scrapped.

The Siren froze there, it wasn’t his intention, really, the clothes just weren’t strong enough.

Xia Yi was a bit annoyed as he thought, though, there should be military uniforms for him on the aircraft carrier.
