Chapter 60
The night sky was shrouded in dark clouds, with only a small gap allowing moonlight to peek through, miserly sprinkling it over a certain area. After Abiseth swam away, only the constantly undulating waves remained.
“Was that dolphin… brought by you?”
The Siren looked into Xia Yi’s eyes, hesitated for a moment, and finally admitted:
“Yes.”
According to the inherited memories of the merfolk generations, humans were a strange race, stubborn, always caring about things that seem completely unimportant to merfolk; always troubled, and for inexplicable reasons, they betray love, still believing in their own righteousness.
This was also a kind of fickleness, more unpredictable than a storm. Or perhaps, human emotions were not meant to be seen, but to be felt. Humans often said indifferent words with perfect expressions, accepting something as if they’re eager to discard it immediately.
The Siren had never seen his kind, nor had he had close contact with humans.
He couldn’t judge from Xia Yi’s expression what he was thinking at all, especially since Xia Yi rarely spoke and rarely showed obvious changes in expression. This actually allowed the Siren to wholeheartedly feel Xia Yi’s emotional fluctuations.
However, he could only tell whether Xia Yi was happy or overwhelmed by negative emotions. Most of the time, the Siren had no idea what Xia Yi was thinking.
Xia Yi was different from other humans. His spiritual fluctuations were extremely calm, like the silent depths of the sea, pitch black, seemingly devoid of everything but actually containing countless things.
Like Fichaz, where almost all life is rejected, but when you swim in it, you’ll find it’s an extremely quiet and beautiful place— as if the world is only left with oneself, and oneself owns the entire ocean!
“…Aren’t you planning to send it back?”
Xia Yi looked at the approaching Siren, slightly tilting his neck to avoid the damp, silvery hair, trying to continue his earlier question.
But the Siren was taken aback:
“What?”
“If you don’t send it back, what if Abiseth eats it?”
“…Abiseth wouldn’t dare. It still wants the ship.”
Xia Yi paused, alright, maybe that’s the case. He should think along the straight-line thinking of the sea creatures:
“It’s still not fully grown, all alone, and can’t find its way back. What should we do in the future?”
The Siren finally understood where the problem lay. He grabbed Xia Yi’s neck, pulling him close, looking extremely displeased.
“Yes, I dragged it from the dolphin group. At that time, it thought I was hunting and trying to eat it, so it struggled and made a fuss…”
Dolphins were still united; even when they encounter sharks, they resist and expel them together. The Siren was able to drag this little dolphin purely because merfolk were so fast that the dolphins couldn’t catch up.
“But after I let it go not far from you, it turned around and ran away. I was even prepared to catch it a second time, but then…”
When the little dolphin saw Xia Yi, it didn’t care about the imminent danger of escaping for its life. It happily swam over to rescue him, and after Xia Yi woke up, it behaved as if they were already familiar, leading Xia Yi away.
The journey of successfully escaping after being kidnapped was indeed interesting and exciting!
At that time, the Siren was so angry that he crushed a crab with his bare hands.
“It knows the way back! It’s much smarter than you think. But it didn’t leave. Even when it saw Abiseth appear, although it ran away, it still hovered nearby. Do you know why?”
Xia Yi blinked in confusion.
The Siren leaned closer to his neck, wanting to bite it in anger, but he refrained, only gently rubbing Xia Yi’s ear with his teeth.
That area was sensitive for most people, and usually inaccessible, let alone being touched in such an ambiguous manner. Xia Yi shivered, quickly reaching out to try to push the Siren away, feeling unfamiliar and uneasy.
But the Siren refused to let go, tightening his grip on Xia Yi’s body, emitting a dangerous aura:
“It likes you—”
“That’s quite obvious!”
The Siren paused at Xia Yi’s response, his purple pupils deepening.
If he just lowered his head, he could accurately bite Xia Yi’s neck, a position that wouldn’t be fatal but could firmly control Xia Yi’s movements, and a foot below, it would be his spine.
His fishtail wrapped around Xia Yi’s right leg, his hands went from holding his waist to firmly pressing Xia Yi’s shoulders.
All of these actions were very natural, not even raising Xia Yi’s alertness.
“Do you know it likes you?”
The Siren’s voice became unusually intense, and Xia Yi felt a sudden pain in his temple, but he couldn’t figure out what was happening. He had slept enough during the day; why did he still feel so dizzy?
“Do you like it?”
The Siren’s voice sounded very distant to Xia Yi, but the familiar scent was right at his nose.
It was strange, yet it felt so natural. Xia Yi thought hazily, from the moment he saw the Siren on the deserted island, he was probably shocked by the existence of merfolk.
Approaching without any precautions was purely because of that deeply ingrained concept: aren’t merfolk the kind and beautiful creatures from fairy tales?
Of course, fairy tales were always meant for children.
Peter Pan, who never grows up, lives carefree without worries, and exists only in his own world, doesn’t exist.
The Siren was nothing like what Xia Yi had initially imagined, but there was a peculiar charm about him that gradually intoxicated people. It was a strange feeling, not about obtaining anything, but every time he recalled the faint silver figure in the seawater, even memories became beautiful.
Xia Yi felt he was wrong; humans were not the masters of this planet as they thought. The apocalypse was enough to teach everyone that lesson.
When humans see creatures they like, their subjective imagination was amusing and can be entertaining. It’s worth liking.
Like the cute little cat downstairs, arrogant and willful, humans keep it as a pet, but it only acknowledges its owner when it’s happy.
When it’s not, it just turns away or lies down, ignoring whoever spoils it.
Who is indulging whom, and who is playing whom?
These are all questions.
But what about that dolphin?
Dolphins are fond of approaching humans, and humans like them. This is very obvious.
“Perhaps… yes.”
Xia Yi’s arms were grabbed, unable to lift them. He leaned his head back, trying to clear his mind.
The torn shirt hung like a piece of cloth, still clinging to his two arms.
Because of the movement, Xia Yi’s entire chest was exposed. As the sea breeze blew, a bone-chilling coldness immediately emerged, causing tiny bumps to appear on his skin.
“Siren?”
Xia Yi struggled again, reluctantly opening his eyes. He felt he should find some clothes to wear.
Or find a cabin, lie comfortably in bed; that would be the ultimate enjoyment. But what about the Siren? Can merfolk stay away from the seawater for long periods?
“Siren? Why are you so hot?”
Consciousness seemed to suddenly wake up from a daze. Xia Yi looked anxiously into the Siren’s eyes. They were no longer the same purple as before; they were deep, almost indigo, looking very wrong.
“Siren?”
Xia Yi, at a loss, reached out to touch the smooth back of the merman.
Wherever his touch reached, it was warm, definitely not the usual temperature of the Siren’s body!
“You… mmm!”
Before Xia Yi could say anything, he was kissed directly. The once cool tongue now felt scalding hot, causing Xia Yi to instinctively recoil. But then he was pressed down on the neck, feeling dizzy, and he fell heavily onto the deck.
Fortunately, the Siren’s arm was there, preventing him from hitting the back of his head.
But the feeling was still uncomfortable. The Siren was pressed tightly against him, making it impossible for Xia Yi to stand up, let alone push him away.
As his teeth were grazed against, the shivering sensation intensified, especially now that they were not in the sea.
Xia Yi’s vision darkened, and he found himself unable to breathe. It was only then that a faint sense of fear crept into his heart.
“Whoosh!”
The violent waves began to beat against the hull of the aircraft carrier, but for this massive vessel, it was nothing. Lying on the flight deck, they couldn’t even feel the vibrations.
Just as Xia Yi was on the verge of suffocation, the waves finally surged up, accurately drenching Xia Yi and the Siren.
It was like a lifesaving shower. Xia Yi struggled to regain consciousness, his vision still blurry.
He felt that the Siren’s abnormal behavior was due to being away from the seawater for too long. Just then, the Siren lifted his head slightly, and Xia Yi, without hesitation, gasped for air, his chest aching, especially with the Siren still pressing on it.
As the waves washed over them again, Xia Yi distinctly felt something wrong with the sensation on his legs.
The distinctly layered scales of the fishtail seemed to be off, or rather, they seemed to be separating. He felt a slight movement on both his left and right legs simultaneously, accompanied by the rough abrasion sensation from the scales.
“Siren?”
Sharp nails slid down Xia Yi’s back, pressing directly onto his waist. Because they were too sharp, a thin line of blood soon seeped through the skin, causing Xia Yi to shiver slightly, feeling the seawater washing over his legs.
Damp and torn jeans were ripped from the waist.
At the same time, Xia Yi felt a bite on his back, causing him to convulse in pain. Finally, he realized the Siren’s intent:
“Let… let go!”
The coccyx was the most sensitive spot, and the palms with tiny scales were rubbing against it, sending a strange and stimulating sensation coursing up his spine. The strength he had built up so laboriously suddenly dissipated, leaving Xia Yi feeling both frightened and puzzled.
The previously gentle spiritual fluctuations now showed signs of being shrouded in negative emotions, like a layer of black smoke spreading rapidly.
However, this would only further stimulate the mermaid’s temperament. It was the nature of the mermaid to feed on such emotions.
The Siren held Xia Yi firmly, struggling against his own instincts.
He couldn’t emit his song, couldn’t devour Xia Yi’s spiritual energy.
He didn’t want to kill Xia Yi! Not now, at least!
He wouldn’t do it until he had obtained, possessed, and confirmed his true hope!
Sweat dripped onto Xia Yi’s face as he stared at the Siren’s struggling expression for a long time. Pinned down on the deck, unable to move or lower his head, all he could see when he opened his eyes was the pitch-black sky.
Xia Yi’s rapid breathing gradually calmed down.
The Siren suddenly startled.
The intense emotions of fear and doubt emanating from Xia Yi’s spiritual energy had disappeared. So, when their eyes met, the heat from his body seemed to intensify.
“Are you going to eat me?”
Yes, Xia Yi hadn’t figured out the Siren’s abnormal behavior at all. He only smelled the scent of blood in the sea breeze.
His back was throbbing, and there were clear traces of blood on the Siren’s lips.
“Yes, you’re mine… just mine…”
The mermaid lowered his head, using his tongue to lick the blood flowing down Xia Yi’s arm, murmuring like a spell:
“Xia Yi… Xia Yi…”
Feeling uncomfortable from the hot fingers and tongue, Xia Yi could only try to regulate his breathing and turn his head slightly:
“Then be direct, use your fingers and aim at my throat…”
In bits and pieces, suffering silently, he would rather be swallowed whole by Abigail.
“I won’t kill you… I’m going to eat that dolphin…”
And with trembling voice that couldn’t even form complete sentences, Xia Yi realized that the infrasound did have its benefits. At least it could be useful when his voice failed:
“Why do you want to kill it?”
Why did the question return to that little creature again?
“You’re mine…”
The Siren repeated, the high temperature already causing chaos in his mind. Despite his intellect warning him that this was wrong, that many mermaids resorted to such measures due to unfulfilled desires, only to lose more in return, his body was more honest than his rationality.
The Siren’s first transformation had completely begun, and he couldn’t stop.
“You belong to me alone!”
Did the monster’s logic dictate that anything belonging to it should be devoured?
