Chapter 61
A faint scent of blood permeated the sea breeze, but fortunately, this wasn’t a factor that stimulated the mermaid’s senses.
However, being out of the water made the Siren particularly irritable, and the remnants of his rationality were on the brink of collapse. The increasingly dangerous aura was even clear to Xia Yi.
He had seen mermaids hunt before. Regardless of how fast swordfish or fierce sharks were, their speed of attack and evasion were far inferior to the Siren’s.
Size difference was not an issue; mermaids could accurately break the spine of their prey, causing instant death, preventing blood from clotting due to struggling.
Xia Yi couldn’t understand why the Siren was still dragging on, even though he had stopped struggling. His world was very simple, divided only into things he was willing to face and things he wasn’t.
If this were just a quirk instead of a personality trait, it might be said that he was stubborn and unwilling to change. But if it dictated his character and affected his logical thinking, it would be a disaster.
Regardless of how harmonious the environment he stayed in, even if the environment didn’t reject him, Xia Yi’s thoughts were always limited to himself—he was captivated by the Siren’s non-human appearance at first sight, finding those sea monsters interesting, even eliciting strange emotions as he slowly recalled, his fondness for the Siren was not purely innocent.
But all these deductions did not lead to the normal conclusion one would expect from a regular person. He had no intention of pursuing or probing what feelings the person he liked might have for him.
The crux of the problem was that Xia Yi lived only in his own world.
Of course, mermaids should seek out their own kind.
Was this line of thinking wrong?
Xia Yi wasn’t oblivious, but fundamentally, he cut off speculation about that direction from the source.
The Siren’s fingertips were now burning with pain, very wrong, and his eyes looked strange. Perhaps wild creatures were like this; humans thought they had established a deep friendship with them, but at some point, they would suddenly swallow you whole.
Xia Yi wasn’t unwilling to struggle; he simply couldn’t move.
The aircraft carrier was too high above the sea surface. He exerted all his strength, feeling his head throbbing, yet only a few splashes reached the deck, wetting his body but serving no purpose.
The Siren’s fingers slid from his back to his chest, pressing tightly against the position of his heart. Under these circumstances, it was strange that his heartbeat wasn’t faster.
Xia Yi closed his eyes.
He thought he would at least regret something, or regret dying so carelessly… but strangely, he didn’t.
The first thing that appeared in his consciousness was the Tarasa Goddess, truly a luxurious cruise ship. Disregarding the noise and dances behind him, he stood by the railing, gazing at the azure sea and sky.
Exhausted seabirds flew aimlessly, eventually plummeting into the sea, white waves instantly flipping—
Yes, that’s when he saw the silver fish tail, mistaking it for a large fish at the time.
Xia Yi trembled as he felt his waist and abdomen being touched. There was a slight sting in some places, but it wasn’t very noticeable. He suddenly opened his eyes, ignoring the shallow red marks scratched on his bare upper body, and stared directly at the Siren.
“Does Abiseth like drinking milk?”
This question came too abruptly, and the Siren had no response at all.
But it was the octopus, who had been trying hard to pretend it didn’t exist in the distance, who couldn’t resist speaking up: “What’s milk?”
“It’s white, a kind of liquid… no, a type of water, cold… the surroundings are all very cold and cool, and it tastes good.”
“Oh, that sounds nice!”
Abiseth floated slightly above the surface, its big eyes fixed on the aircraft carrier.
“I wonder if they have it on this ship?”
“The Tarasa Goddess… no, I mean the milk on the ship I jumped from. How did you drink it?”
Although two months had passed since the incident, Xia Yi’s memory of details would not be wrong on such matters.
Completely sealed refrigerators, disappearing fresh milk… that was probably the most incomprehensible thing that happened during the end-of-world crisis. If it was indeed the giant octopus who drank it, then it meant that Abiseth and the Siren had targeted that cruise ship very early on.
“Of course, through the ventilation ducts, inserting our tentacles…”
The octopus said matter-of-factly, but after waiting for half a day without hearing Xia Yi’s voice, it couldn’t help but feel curious.
“Xia Yi?”
Of course, Xia Yi couldn’t answer it. He trembled reflexively, his eyes wide with horror, his mind in chaos, all the deductions and memories from just now seemed to have disappeared.
What was the Siren doing?
Gripping his spine, chest, and waist, he understood that those were fatal weak points, but…?
“Shhh.”
The jeans, which had already been torn off behind, were now completely ruined. The fabric on the front of his legs had also been torn into pieces.
Then, a scalding sensation enveloped him, completely different from the sensation through the clothes. The Siren’s fingertips and palms had small scales, and when they touched him carelessly, the slightly rough abrasion and subtle pain felt like a strong electric current surged through his limbs and bones.
“What… what are you doing?”
Xia Yi forced himself to calm down. What he had just thought of was that the Tarasov Goddess encountered Abiseth and the Siren a day after setting sail.
The magnetic anomaly hadn’t appeared yet at that time. Why were the sea monsters following a cruise ship?
Were they treating the humans on the Tarasov Goddess as food?
Xia Yi struggled, his previously calm spiritual waves completely disturbed.
The uncertain emotions surged like turbulent waves, making his mental world particularly unstable. But amidst the Siren’s dark emotions, which were still rational, he leaned down and kissed deeply, his breath violent and dangerous, as if plundering Xia Yi’s breaths and gasps.
Although the awkward position had been released, the sensitive skin at the base of his thighs, after being touched, sent a paralyzing sensation even from his spine.
Xia Yi couldn’t break free; this situation was too bizarre.
He felt his consciousness being tightly enveloped, unable to see anything even when he opened his eyes. Everywhere was pitch black, and even the sound of the waves disappeared, leaving only the tranquility of his own breathing and the pounding of his heart.
“It’s just like this… Nothing exists, only what you can touch is the only truth.”
In a daze, the Siren’s voice seemed particularly clear, deeply imprinted in Xia Yi’s mind:
“You are mine… or, in human terms, I like you. Don’t leave me, or I would rather take you into the deep sea, let you suffocate and die in my arms, even if it’s just a corpse, I won’t let go — you are mine…”
As if the temperature from the Siren’s body had been transmitted, Xia Yi also felt suffocatingly hot, the scorching temperature unbearable.
There was no sea breeze, no waves, not even Abiseth’s previous sonar waves, all seemed to vanish and disappear, as if the whole world had disappeared, leaving only the overwhelming pleasure and unbearable sensation emanating from every sensitive part of the body, like a long torture.
Xia Yi tried hard to calm himself down, to understand what was going on.
There must be something wrong somewhere, he had to explain to the Siren!
He had such feelings, but wasn’t this wrong?
It was absolutely impossible… the Siren should be looking for its own kind, definitely not…
“Xia Yi, what did you say?”
After some overlap of their spiritual waves, slightly stronger thoughts would accurately be conveyed.
Xia Yi’s previous thought made the Siren, who had always been convinced that he would eventually lose Xia Yi, suddenly pause.
“You want… to find your own kind…”
“Not that.”
“…You should find your own kind…”
Xia Yi stubbornly held onto that one thought.
The sensations in his body grew increasingly pronounced, almost scattering his senses. His body involuntarily arched, as if every sensation had been ignited by the Siren’s fingertips.
Tingling and numbness gradually concentrated in the muscles of his groin, and a strange sensation suddenly shot up from his tailbone.
He finally understood what the Siren intended to do.
It was like that time on set when he dropped his script and had to go back to retrieve it, even though it was late at night. The busy crew was gathered, setting up indoor scenes.
He walked upstairs and entered the actors’ dressing room. As he opened the door, he froze.
The producer and a minor character from the show were naked and entangled on the couch.
The lights were on, and Xia Yi saw everything clearly, including their intimate connection. But he didn’t say anything, not even a gasp. He simply picked up the script from the table, turned around, and left, closing the door behind him.
It was his room, albeit temporary.
“You see, they say Xia Yi is no different from a dead person.”
As he closed the door, he heard mocking laughter. Xia Yi didn’t turn back, nor did he feel nauseous or uncomfortable.
To him, it was just another thing in this circle that absolutely couldn’t be spoken of.
Later on, it seemed that the minor character became the lead in the next TV series and quickly gained fame.
To be honest, his acting was good, and he stole the scene with his looks. Xia Yi quickly realized that men with men were just like that, a realization he hadn’t come to terms with initially.
But even if he immediately had a nightmare, dreaming of rolling onto a bed with Li Shao, it wouldn’t have made Xia Yi so terrified and uncertain.
Wasn’t the lower half of a mermaid supposed to be a fish tail?
Xia Yi suddenly felt a chill. When he waved his hand, it felt like he had grabbed onto something.
Subconsciously, he clenched it tightly, feeling the cold metallic sensation. After fumbling around for a while, he realized it was the landing gear of an F22.
His back was burning, and the familiar scent permeated around his neck. This feeling of being in-between made Xia Yi attempt to struggle once again.
“Xia Yi, don’t you want to?”
“No… No, that’s not right, you should…”
When the sensations at the forefront of his body were brought to a peak but couldn’t be released, being asked if he wanted to stop was simply a joke.
Someone with Xia Yi’s temperament would curse in such a situation, but he couldn’t help but stubbornly repeat the words he had just spoken.
But before he could finish, he was interrupted by the Siren:
“I have no kin. Even if I encounter them, I will kill them, tear apart their fish tails, and silence them forever!”
This violently murderous sound wave made Xia Yi dizzy, and his head throbbed as if it were about to explode. Enormous waves rose on the sea, countless whirlpools appeared in the water, and Abiseth was tossed around in circles.
Was this an attempt to sink the ship?
Watching the terrifying waves, their impact on the aircraft carrier was minimal, just a slight rocking back and forth. Xia Yi didn’t feel it amidst his confused consciousness; he just held onto the metal framework in his hand.
When he felt the waves wash over him, the intense desire slightly diminished. But just then, a tearing pain suddenly struck.
Abiseth was about to swim over to help lift the ship, but suddenly all the water around him surged upward like it was boiling, instantly tossing him to the sea floor.
Deprived of buoyancy and the water necessary for survival, the octopus looked around stupidly, watching the bare sea floor and a group of fish that had been hiding in the sand, now floundering about.
Was it stranded? No, the water had flown away!
At the same time, a piercing and sharp infrasound made Abiseth reel back, writhing in agony, his tentacles twisting in pain.
Oh no, he would suffocate in the air!
The octopus frantically moved its body and tentacles, but to no avail.
All the water rushed back like a torrential downpour, as if a huge bucket of water had been dumped over their heads.
The aircraft carrier was hit hard, sinking slightly, and the F22 fighter aircraft locked in place by alloy chains also slid down slightly. This vibration almost caused Xia Yi, who had just recovered his breath, to faint again.
His fingers clenched tightly, and if it weren’t for the Siren’s arm supporting him from behind, he would probably have collapsed to the ground.
Aside from the scorching temperature, everything seemed to stand still, but there was an indescribable tingling sensation rushing up.
The waves poured down to the sea floor, still churning and tossing as Xia Yi breathed heavily.
“What happened? Such terrifying sound waves. Abiseth?”
The sea creatures were asking one after another, feeling as if they had choked on something while eating or had been abruptly awakened from sleep.
That kind of sound wave… was it emitted when on the brink of death?
But it didn’t seem like it… The sound wave didn’t just suddenly cut off; it was very intense.
How could it be close to death?
Moreover, where in the world could there be such terrifying creatures that could emit such painful and eerie psychic waves?
Faced with the recurring infrasound, the octopus completely ignored it. As soon as its body was enveloped in seawater, it immediately swam desperately into the depths of the sea.
Along the way, it saw a dolphin frantically jumping out of the sea trying to escape. Without hesitation, the octopus retracted its suckers, rolled up its tentacles, and wrapped up the little creature.
“Be good, don’t move. I won’t eat you; I’m taking you to safety. It’s too scary out here!”
Trembling, Abiseth used another tentacle to pat the dolphin’s panicked head as it struggled to bite.
