T/N: Hey everyone! This novel has been one of my absolute favorites, and the previous translator did an incredible job translating it. But I noticed the extra chapters of Meng Yang and Luo Xiu’s journey didn’t get translated, so I decided to dive in and share them with you all. I hope you have as much fun reading these extras as I did! Have fun reading!
Seven year old Luo Junye stood in Luo Xiu’s study, awaiting his scolding. Luo Xiu was very strict in his children’s education. When criticism and punishment are needed, he never became soft hearted because of their young age. However, when the children did well, he also praised them.
In general, some people felt that when children are still young, reasoning with them was futile, and they shouldn’t be too harsh on them. They argued that children should retain their innocence and that their mistakes should be overlooked under the pretext of their age. However, when they grow older and become rebellious, they find that it was too late to correct their behavior
The simplest way to ruin a child’s future was to allow them to grow up with unrestricted freedom and happiness.
Although Luo Xiu was extremely busy, he never neglected his children’s education. He wanted them to learn self-discipline, proper social etiquette and manners and develop a strong will. He teaches them how to face setbacks with the right mindset and guides them to find solutions to their problems on their own.
“…Clever tricks can never surpass great knowledge. If you develop the habit of using clever tricks at a young age, the higher you climb, the harder you will fall.” Luo Xiu looked at Luo Junye and asked, “Do you understand everything I just said?”
“I understand completely, father.” Luo Junye replied, standing perfectly straight.
“Go apologize to your teachers, then redo all your exercise problems. Show them to me when you’re finished.” Luo Xiu said with a stern look.
“Yes.” Luo Junye answered and turned to leave. Being only seven years old, he couldn’t help but feel sad after being severely scolded by Luo Xiu as such he walked towards the door with his head down.
“Hold your head up!” Luo Xiu sharply said.
Luo Junye trembled, immediately straightened his back, and raised his head. Then he opened the door and went out.
He returned to his study, apologized to his two teachers, and then sat down to continue solving problems.
Meng Yang was in the flower room holding his almost two year old son while watching his four year old son solve the wooden puzzle box. He knew that Luo Junye had been called by Luo Xiu to be reprimanded for trying to be clever and deceiving his teachers. However, he did not intend to say anything about it. Every time a child made a mistake, Luo Xiu would discipline them, and Meng Yang would not participate, interrupt, or appear as he believed it was essential for children to learn to reflect on their mistakes.
Luo Junhan placed the final symbol in its correct position, and all four locks on the wooden box finally opened. He happily exclaimed, “Dad, look, I opened it again.”
“Amazing.” Meng Yang praised with a smile. “You took less time than last time. Junhan is getting smarter.”
Hearing Meng Yang’s praise, Luo Junhan happily smiled. He locked the box again and continued to solve it.
Meng Yang continued to watch him unlock it. The method to solve this box was different each time, it was specially designed to exercise children’s initiative and brainpower. Although Luo Junhan was only four years old, he had already opened it several times and this was a beginner’s puzzle box, typically suitable for children aged seven to ten.
Meng Yang pondered that Junye who was seven years old, had already outgrown this puzzle because he could already solve the most advanced ones with ease. That child was truly intelligent, so it was even more important to guide and educate him correctly.
Luo Xiu entered the flower room. Upon seeing him, Luo Junhan immediately stood up and called, “Father.”
Luo Xiu nodded, walked to Meng Yang’s side, and sat down.
“Go play outside. Dad wants to talk to father for a bit.” Meng Yang said with a smile to the child.
“Okay.” Luo Junhan dutifully responded, then turned and headed outside.
“Shu, shu…….1Meaning/Purpose: The baby is saying the word “树” which means tree instead of “叔” which means uncle.” Luo Junxu called out to Luo Xiu.
“Call him father.” Meng Yang quickly corrected. “Say, fa~ther.”
“Hu~qun.2Meaning/Purpose: So this is baby Junxu trying to say 父亲 – fùqīn – Fa-ther but what he actually says is 呼群 – hū qún – call group.” Luo Junxu called out.
Because Meng Yang called Luo Xiu “Uncle Luo”, this child also followed Meng Yang in calling him “Uncle Luo”. Neither the eldest nor the second had done so, and despite Meng Yang correcting him many times, he still didn’t change this habit. Now, Meng Yang didn’t even dare to call Luo Xiu “Uncle Luo” anymore.
Originally, Meng Yang only planned to have two children. This child was completely unexpected, but since he had already come, Meng Yang naturally decided to give birth to him, seeing it as fate ah.
Even if the Luo family could afford to raise a hundred children, it wasn’t an easy task to educate and accompany each child. So Meng Yang was determined to ensure he didn’t get pregnant again.
Meng Yang turned his head and kissed Luo Xiu on the face and said, “You’ve worked hard, father.”
“Woo, woo…….” Luo Junxu saw it, pouted his lips and wanted a kiss too.
Meng Yang gave him a helpless look, thinking this child really wants to learn everything. Then he kissed him on his little face. Yet the child still pouted and whimpered. Meng Yang lifted the child up and had him kiss Luo Xiu on the face, smearing his face with saliva.
Meng Yang laughed and wiped the saliva off Luo Xiu’s face with his hand. When Luo Xiu was about to kiss him, he used his hand to block his mouth and said, “This little guy is like a little demon, imitating everything he sees us do. Let’s not let him see this.”
Luo Xiu turned the child around and handed him to Meng Yang. Afterwards, he covered the child’s eyes with one hand while supporting Meng Yang’s head with the other as he kissed him. The child, unable to see, turned his little head and made dissatisfied noises.
………………………………
Late at night, Meng Yang lay nestled in Luo Xiu’s embrace pretending to sleep. In actuality, he was actually wide awake, mentally calculating the time in his mind.
Meng Yang gently slipped out of Luo Xiu’s arms and then put on his coat and walked out. As soon as he got out of bed, Luo Xiu woke up, knowing what he was going to do he didn’t move or stop him.
Meng Yang walked to his eldest son’s door and pressed the doorbell outside.
Luo Junye had just finished showering and came out of the bathroom. When he reached the door, he saw that it was Meng Yang. He immediately opened the door and called out, “Dad.”
Meng Yang walked in, looked at Luo Junye, and asked, “Have you drank your milk?”
“I just drank milk a moment ago.” Luo Junye answered.
“Then go to bed early.” Meng Yang said, bending down and rubbing his eldest son’s handsome and tender face.
“Okay.” Luo Junye nodded, then turned and walked towards the bed.
Luo Junye lifted the blanket and got into bed. Meng Yang also walked to the bed, sat down, looked at him and said, “Don’t go to sleep feeling down. At your age, it’s normal to make mistakes. Your father has the responsibility to point out your mistakes and let you know how these mistakes will affect your life in the future. Both your father and I hope that no matter what you do in the future, whether you achieve anything or not, you must be smart. Because only with life’s knowledge can you more easily get the happiness you want.”
“I know.” Luo Junye said with a serious expression on his young face. “I know father is doing this for my own good.”
Meng Yang didn’t want to continue lecturing his son about life at such a late hour. He merely hoped that his precious son could get a good night’s sleep.
Meng Yang hugged Luo Junye, gently patting his back and said, “You’re a very smart and excellent child. Your father and I are very proud of you. Sleep well.”
After Luo Junye laid down and fell asleep, Meng Yang tucked him in and then got up and went out.
Luo Xiu was a very strict father, but Meng Yang never commented too much on Luo Xiu’s strictness because he believes that a strict upbringing is crucial for a child’s growth, but praise is also absolutely necessary. Children growing up in families like theirs would find it difficult to develop a sense of fear without strict discipline. Humans cannot live without a certain degree of fear but if they are only treated strictly without being praised, they will lack confidence and could easily develop extreme behaviors. Both Luo Xiu and Meng Yang were trying their best to fulfill their roles, one strict and serious, the other gentle and warm. Raising children was really not an easy task, but once you bring them into this world, you must shoulder this responsibility.
Although Luo Xiu and Meng Yang have decided to let their child choose whether or not to inherit the company in the future, they won’t simply hand over the company if the child wants it. The child must also have the ability to do so. After all, Luo Xiu was not just a father but also the head of the entire group. He was also responsible for those who have dedicated their youth, intelligence, and labor to the group.
Meng Yang returned to their room, laid down on the bed, snuggled into Luo Xiu’s arms, and closed his eyes to go to sleep.
“Is the child asleep?” Luo Xiu asked, holding Meng Yang.
“Yeah.” Meng Yang answered with a yawn and whispered, “He drank his milk, took a bath and has already gone to sleep.”
“Now can you rest easy?” Luo Xiu asked.
“What rest?” Meng Yang asked, feigning ignorance.
“There’s still something we need to do tonight. Weren’t you having trouble sleeping earlier?”
“I couldn’t sleep because I was worried about Junye not being able to sleep. It wasn’t because I was thinking about this that I couldn’t sleep…….” Meng Yang hugged Luo Xiu’s shoulder, and gradually, only the sound of heavy breathing remained.
