With the New Year approaching, classmates and friends were busy with social exchanges. Chen Xu didn’t have any particularly close friends, except for Song Ming and Xu Ke, who could be considered good friends.
Just as Song Ming, who had been studying abroad, came back for the holidays, Xu Ke, ever so energetic, organized a gathering, claiming it was a good opportunity to catch up.
Chen Xu had no objections, and after discussing it with Ji Chunxiao, he went to have dinner, but when he returned home that evening, he was greeted with half-hearted kisses from an unhappy Ji Chunxiao.
Years had passed, yet Ji Chunxiao still harbored a strong animosity towards Song Ming.
Chen Xu found it a bit funny and somewhat helpless; there wasn’t even a hint of that sort of interest between him and Song Ming, and he didn’t understand what Ji Chunxiao was so worried about.
He curved his lips slightly and tapped Ji Chunxiao on the forehead, “Why are you so jealous?”
“I’m not.”
The young master wouldn’t admit it but held his wife even tighter.
Chen Xu always thought the childish act of “jealousy” was exclusive to Ji Chunxiao since he had never felt jealous over him.
It wasn’t that he didn’t care about his boyfriend; it was more that Ji Chunxiao was too self-aware. Among the difficult traits of the young masters, extreme fastidiousness included not even allowing others to get close, let alone being intimate.
Over the years, Chen Xu had never seen anyone other than family and himself get close to Ji Chunxiao.
There really wasn’t much room for jealousy.
Gradually, Chen Xu almost forgot that Ji Chunxiao was actually a very desirable person—young, handsome, and wealthy. Even if his temper was a bit poor, there were plenty of people who liked him.
Ji Chunxiao, who usually had no annual leave, was busier than ever in his first year after taking over the family business, working overtime even as the New Year approached.
Recently, he had a task to represent the company at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new business tower.
He had heard there was a good private restaurant nearby, so he planned to bring his wife along to dine there after the event.
Other businessmen attending the ribbon-cutting included Li San, a third son from the Li family, whom he had known since high school but never got close to.
Ji Chunxiao didn’t like Li San much, finding him too meddlesome.
At a previous New Year’s gathering, Li San, a bit drunk, insisted on clinging to him, saying he was lonely and wanted company, then looked at him with puppy eyes.
Ji Chunxiao frowned and distanced himself, “Don’t you have a wife? That’s pitiful. Luckily, I have one.”
Li San choked on his words, paused, and then switched topics to talk about work.
He had investigated and knew Ji Chunxiao’s boyfriend studied architecture, so they definitely didn’t have that in common.
There’s my angle!
He changed his expression to one of admiration, looking at Ji Chunxiao, “I heard you started involving yourself in the family business right from university? That’s amazing!”
Li San pleaded, “I’m not as outstanding as you, Ji Ge. I don’t know anything; could you spare some time to guide me?”
Ji Chunxiao’s brows furrowed even more at this, “You don’t know anything? Are you useless, then? No wonder you don’t have a wife.”
Li San forced a laugh: Ha… ha…
Somehow, the ribbon-cutting paired the two together, and Ji Chunxiao, disliking him, kept almost a meter of distance.
Only the photographer, thinking it didn’t look good for photos, managed to coax Ji Chunxiao to stand closer to Li San.
Standing on the stage, Li San followed Ji Chunxiao’s gaze downward and provocatively met Chen Xu’s eyes.
He intentionally stood closer to Ji Chunxiao, side-smiling and saying something with undisguised admiration in his eyes.
The two of them, among a group of middle-aged businessmen, dressed in matching suits, had a ridiculously compatible look.
Chen Xu frowned, his fists clenched at his sides, his expression cooling down.
As soon as the ribbon-cutting was over, he immediately went over and grabbed Ji Chunxiao’s hand.
“What’s wrong, wife?” Ji Chunxiao, happily led by the hand, looked down at Chen Xu, “Are you hungry? Shall we go eat now?”
Chen Xu looked up at him, then suddenly smiled, “Okay.”
Li San, ignored by the couple, was annoyed and deliberately came over to make his presence felt, “Going to eat? Let’s go together! Ji Ge and I are old acquaintances, you’re not that petty, are you?”
Chen Xu didn’t speak, just stared steadily at him, very aware that someone was trying to compete with him for Ji Chunxiao.
This feeling was unfamiliar and more unbearable than he had imagined.
His expression cooled further, and before he could speak, Ji Chunxiao, already displeased, cut in.
“Who’s an old acquaintance with you? I don’t dine with useless people.”
Calling my wife petty, are you sick, Li San?
An irritated Ji Chunxiao decided to keep his wife away from this man.
The private restaurant indeed lived up to its reputation, but Chen Xu seemed somewhat out of spirits all evening, showing little interest even in his favorite dishes, and remained quiet all the way home, only clinging to Ji Chunxiao more than usual.
Ji Chunxiao, a bit worried, cradled his face and kissed him, “What’s wrong, little Chen Xu? Why the long face?”
Chen Xu obediently wrapped his arms around Ji Chunxiao’s neck, their cheeks touching, and after a long while, he cautiously asked, “…Can you like only me, Ji Chunxiao, just me forever?”
Ji Chunxiao was taken aback, a bit flustered by the sudden doubt, wishing he could immediately swear his loyalty, “Of course!”
“Why would you ask that?” He kissed Chen Xu again, “Of course, I only love you, I belong only to you.”
From the moment he started projecting his feelings onto Chen Xu, he couldn’t pull them back, unable to share them with anyone else.
Chen Xu was Ji Chunxiao’s one and only, his alone.
Reassured by this promise, Chen Xu felt somewhat satisfied but still didn’t want to let go of Ji Chunxiao, especially clingy.
Ji Chunxiao was more than willing to indulge him, patiently kissing, waiting for his wife to adjust his mood.
Chen Xu, held tightly, suddenly understood why Ji Chunxiao always seemed to be jealousy making mountains out of molehills.
Because he cared.
The more you love, the more you mind even the slightest hint of someone else’s touch.
He felt the same about Ji Chunxiao, not wanting to share even a bit.
He buried himself deeper into Ji Chunxiao’s embrace, resting his head on his heart,
“Ji Chunxiao, I will also love you forever, belonging only to you.”
Possessiveness is a part of desire.
They would forever possess each other completely.
(Ji Chunxiao’s diary: January 19 – Wife was a bit jealous today. Although I love hearing her say she loves me and belongs to me after getting jealous, I hate anything that makes her unhappy! I’ve decided to start cultivating manly virtues from today, to be a worthy husband who never makes his wife jealous!)
