Two Tales for Qixi Festival

About Zodiac Signs

On the evening of the Qixi Festival, the streets were bustling with people. Vendors selling roses, balloons, and couple outfits were everywhere.

Amid the crowded and stifling throng, Chen Xu’s hand was firmly held by Ji Chunxiao beside him. As Chen Xu turned to ask if Ji Chunxiao wanted to buy anything, he noticed Ji Chunxiao’s gaze fixed on a small stall set up with crystal balls and tarot cards.

Thus, Chen Xu considerately asked, “Do you want to have a fortune told?”

“No!”

Ji Chunxiao immediately refused, his brows furrowing, vehemently rejecting the idea: “Wife, that’s all feudal superstition, I never believe in that stuff.”

He was about to pull Chen Xu away, clearly opposed to such fortune-telling stalls.

Chen Xu let himself be led, smiling slightly, suddenly remembering a long-past event.

It was a previous Qixi Festival in their last life when they had encountered a fortune teller who claimed they could predict zodiac compatibility.

Ji Chunxiao had scoffed at it, snorting dismissively, “Childish, I’m not interested.”

But when Chen Xu looked away for a few minutes, he found Ji Chunxiao squatting in front of the stall, seriously inquiring about the compatibility of Aquarius and Virgo.

Chen Xu was taken aback since he is a Virgo and Ji Chunxiao an Aquarius.

Though Ji Chunxiao had verbally expressed disinterest, there he was, secretly checking their compatibility.

The fortune teller pondered for a moment then told Ji Chunxiao that these two signs were incompatible, destined for a rocky relationship.

The fortune teller hadn’t finished speaking when Ji Chunxiao abruptly stood up, his face cold with anger, slapping some cash on the table, “Feudal superstition, stop misleading people!”

He clearly couldn’t take a joke.

Returning to Chen Xu’s side with a stern face, gripping Chen Xu’s hand tightly, unaware that Chen Xu had heard everything, he muttered, “I told you not to believe it, they just talk nonsense.”

Incompatible, my foot; he and Chen Xu were the most compatible in the world.

Since then, Ji Chunxiao briskly walked past any such fortune-telling stalls, not believing himself, nor allowing Chen Xu to believe.

This time, he wanted to pull Chen Xu away again, but Chen Xu didn’t budge and instead moved a few steps closer to the stall with the crystal ball.

Squatting down, Chen Xu asked with a smile:

“Could you tell us about the relationship aspect for Aquarius and Virgo?”

As soon as he finished speaking, Chen Xu felt Ji Chunxiao’s grip on his hand tighten. He smiled and gave the fortune teller a knowing look, secretly sliding an extra twenty yuan their way.

“Ah, the best match for Aquarius is definitely Virgo! Extremely compatible, truly made for each other, these two signs will have a great relationship!”

Hearing this, Chen Xu turned to look at Ji Chunxiao, seeing his eyes light up before he leaned closer to the fortune teller, “Really?”

The fortune teller scratched their head and smiled, “…Of course, it’s true.”

Ji Chunxiao was satisfied, visibly happy, and generously tipped the fortune teller, praising, “You’re really accurate.”

Chen Xu couldn’t help but tease him, “I thought you never believed in this stuff, calling it feudal superstition?”

Ji Chunxiao squeezed Chen Xu’s hand, “What superstition? The end of science is mysticism; you have to believe what you should.”

Noticing they weren’t being watched, he quickly kissed the corner of Chen Xu’s lips.

“I don’t care, wife, we are truly made for each other.”

The Current Chen Xu and the Past Ji Chunxiao

On the night of the Qixi Festival, Chen Xu had a strange dream where he returned to the previous life next to Ji Chunxiao.

Back then, Ji Chunxiao was still awkward, immature, and annoying, throwing a temper tantrum because Chen Xu was too busy with work to spend time with him.

The bad-tempered young master Ji sat on the sofa, coldly watching Chen Xu, expecting him to coax him as usual.

But the current Chen Xu didn’t indulge him anymore; without even a glance, he simply sat at the other end of the sofa and closed his eyes to rest.

The ignored Ji Chunxiao frowned in disbelief, his mind racing with thoughts like “Chen Xu doesn’t like him anymore,” “Chen Xu is annoyed with him,” “Chen Xu doesn’t love him anymore.” Ji Chunxiao panicked, but he couldn’t express himself properly, using anger to cover everything.

“Chen Xu!” he stood in front of Chen Xu, sternly and childishly demanding, “Don’t you like me anymore?”

Chen Xu still closed his eyes, lazily answering the drama-king young master, “I do.”

The affirmative response slightly eased the huge weight in Ji Chunxiao’s heart; he sighed in relief and started making unreasonable demands:

“But you haven’t come home for lunch for a week, you have to stay home with me today.”

Ji Chunxiao emphasized “must,” adding, “And you have to bake me a cupcake.”

Chen Xu blinked, looking up at him, neither confirming nor denying the cupcake request, but instead, he pointed to Ji Chunxiao’s chin to change the subject:

“I’m thirsty, get me a glass of water.”

Young master Ji paused, his earlier anger interrupted:

“…Oh.”

He touched the teapot on the table, poured a cup of warm floral tea, thought for a moment, then placed it next to Chen Xu’s hand.

Previously, Chen Xu wouldn’t have made such demands, and this new experience of being ordered around was quite novel for Ji Chunxiao, though it only applied if the one making demands was Chen Xu.

If someone else had asked him to do something, young master Ji would have found it unreasonable, but if it was Chen Xu, he would act like a little dog that fetches a stick thrown by its master, quickly bringing it back and circling Chen Xu, sneakily checking if Chen Xu was pleased.

Chen Xu sipped the floral tea lightly, curving his lips slightly, “I don’t want tea, get me some water.”

“…Alright.”

Ji Chunxiao, forgetting all about the cupcakes, reached to take Chen Xu’s cup, bending down so close that their proximity blurred the lines between reality and dream for the tired Chen Xu, who instinctively leaned in to kiss Ji Chunxiao’s cheek, softly thanking him with a “Thank you, hubby.”

Ji Chunxiao’s hand trembled, spilling tea all over the table.

His ears visibly reddened quickly, mouth opening as if to say something but unable to find the words, only able to internally scream:

Chen Xu actually called him hubby! How sudden, did he hear wrong?! No, it must be because his wife really loves him, probably already whispered it to herself eight hundred times, and this time it just slipped out!

In Ji Chunxiao’s mind, like a little dog running in circles, regardless, he was overjoyed.

Chen Xu, seeing him motionless for so long, opened his eyes in confusion, only to find Ji Chunxiao holding a half-filled cup of water, aimlessly wandering beside him.

At that moment, catching Chen Xu’s gaze, young master Ji suddenly snapped back from his reverie, halting in his tracks, words jumbled:

“Oh, you want the cup, I need to go wash the water first.”

Chen Xu laughed out loud, finding this Qixi Festival particularly amusing.
