SL Chapter 14

Standing Up for Him

When Tang Zhe said he would deal with it, he meant it. He grabbed the two men who had pinned Min Yang down and pulled them over.

“You… hello,” Tang Zhe greeted them politely. The two men, thinking Tang Zhe was easy to talk to, quickly began to plead their case.

“Mmm, mmm, mmm—” Unfortunately, with their mouths gagged by the black-clad mercenaries, all they could do was let out muffled groans.

Tang Zhe paused in his actions. “Do you… have something to say?”

The two men nodded their heads vigorously.

Tang Zhe seemed to consider this carefully, then nodded in agreement. “Al… alright, everyone… has the right… to defend themselves.”

The two men looked at Tang Zhe as if they had encountered a savior, nodding even more fervently.

Min Yang, standing behind Tang Zhe, darkened his expression.

The black-clad mercenary stepped forward and removed the gags from their mouths, allowing the two men to speak:

“This young gentleman, heaven and earth can testify, we only barely touched this gentleman,” one of the bald men said hurriedly, clearly aware of the situation after witnessing his two companions get sent flying. He was practically in tears as he clung to Tang Zhe’s pants. “We absolutely did not hurt this gentleman.”

The bald man thought to himself, besides, this gentleman is an Alpha, it’s not that easy to hurt him, right?

Tang Zhe turned to Min Yang.

Min Yang pursed his lips, holding his shoulder. “I was hurt.”

“It hurts,” Min Yang added nonchalantly.

Any hesitation Tang Zhe had instantly disappeared, as if he were an emperor swayed by a beloved concubine’s whisper.

A bone-crunching sound echoed through the room, followed by the bald man’s cry of pain.

“Invalid defense” Tang Zhe declared.

The bald man: …

Then what was the point of letting us defend ourselves?

Min Yang seemed satisfied, standing behind Tang Zhe. “Thank you.”

Tang Zhe nodded. He thought for a moment, then turned and took Min Yang’s hand. “Don’t… don’t be afraid.”

Tang Zhe reassured him, “I’ll protect you.”

Min Yang: “Alright.”

The bald man and the others: …

From that day on, Tang Zhe truly kept his promise. He protected Min Yang at every turn, even accompanying him to work. Tang Zhe was meticulous in everything he did, whether it was dealing with people sent by Min Cheng to cause trouble or taking care of Min Yang. At first, Min Yang wasn’t used to being protected, after all, he had been a strong Alpha for over twenty years and had never relied on anyone.

But the more he experienced it, the more he found that relying on Tang Zhe wasn’t bad at all.

Having someone to eat with, someone who left a light on for him during dark nights, someone who asked if he was hurt and stood in front of him, defending him—these were all new experiences for Min Yang.

And the person doing all this was an Omega. Thinking of the small Omega standing so determinedly in front of him stirred a strange emotion in Min Yang, like a bottle of soda shaken up, bubbling and sweet, making him feel slightly dizzy.

That evening, it started to rain.

The drizzle came down in light sheets, adding a damp chill to the air. After being secretly drugged by his brother, Min Yang had spent several days in a high fever, with his pheromones fluctuating wildly. It was only in the last couple of days that he had begun to recover, though he still occasionally experienced headaches.

Tang Zhe held Min Yang’s hand as they exited the company elevator, just in time to run into Min Cheng and his group heading upstairs.

Min Cheng, being a member of the Min family, hadn’t been punished severely after the incident. While Tang Zhe had his mercenaries deal with the fake “Tang family” bodyguards, he hadn’t done much to Min Cheng, aside from dislocating his bones a bit.

Min Yang’s people had later taken Min Cheng away, ostensibly to treat his injuries, but…

Tang Zhe glanced at Min Cheng, blinking in slight confusion. Was it just his imagination, or did Min Cheng’s injuries seem to have worsened? Min Cheng looked more disheveled, with stubble on his face and dark circles under his eyes, as if he had gone through something quite torturous.

Strange?

Though he wasn’t sure what had happened to Min Cheng, Tang Zhe instinctively stepped in front of Min Yang to shield him.

Tang Zhe whispered to Min Yang, “Don’t… don’t be afraid.”

Min Cheng, now close enough to hear, twitched at the corners of his mouth.

As the two groups passed each other, Tang Zhe couldn’t resist “checking in” on Min Cheng. “Your face—”

Min Cheng’s eyes narrowed. “Hmph.”

A cough came from behind them, and Tang Zhe noticed Min Cheng flinch slightly, as if in fear. Tang Zhe didn’t have time to think much about it, as he turned his attention to Min Yang, his tone concerned. “What… what’s wrong?”

Tang Zhe tightened his grip on Min Yang’s hand. “Did you… catch a cold?”

Min Yang wobbled slightly, bracing himself against the wall as if a gust of wind might knock him over. He frowned and replied, “Dizzy.”

Tang Zhe immediately forgot about questioning Min Cheng and let Min Yang rest his head on his shoulder. “Your body… body hasn’t fully recovered yet. Rest first.”

“I’ll take you… home.”
