SL Chapter 4

Out of Necessity

Min Yang felt like things were getting out of control.

This wasn’t good.

The Alpha pressed his lips together, his brow furrowing unconsciously.

Over the past few days, Min Yang had tried countless times to finish the conversation that had been left incomplete, to say those words that would set clear boundaries between them. But every time he looked into the little stammerer’s clear, bright eyes, those words circled around his lips and then retreated again.

It was strange, but… he couldn’t seem to control it.

“Min-ge!” A friend called out, approaching from a distance.

Min Yang leaned against the railing halfway up the mountain, his dark jacket casually open.

“What’s up?” Min Yang asked.

“What are you thinking about? Up for a race?” The friend had it all planned out—it was just the right time to do a few laps and then make it to the evening gathering.

“Not going.” Min Yang declined without a second thought.

The friend was surprised, “You’re not going? I guess getting married really changes things. Now that you’ve got an Omega, you’ve forgotten about your bros, huh?”

Min Yang countered, “I don’t like him.”

The friend replied, “Then what’s the rush to go home for?”

Min Yang glanced at the time on his phone and coldly replied, “To cook.”

Min Yang explained, “The butler at home doesn’t know how to do much.”

Min Yang sighed, “I have no choice.”

The friend’s expression instantly became sympathetic. He patted the Alpha on the shoulder and finally just said, “Good luck!”

Min Yang nodded, thinking there was nothing about cooking that required luck. But what Min Yang didn’t know was that, from that day on, a new rumor began circulating in their circle—that the eldest son of the Min family was henpecked.

Whether he was henpecked or not is up for debate, but back at the villa, the little stammerer was standing there, exchanging puzzled looks with the butler.

Half an hour ago, Min Yang had returned.

The eldest young master of the Min family had come back with half a basket of carefully selected ingredients from an import supermarket, and the first thing he did upon returning was head into the kitchen.

“Brother… Brother Zhou, what’s… what’s wrong with Mr. Min?” The little stammerer tugged on the butler’s sleeve, wondering if he was seeing things.

The Beta butler was equally baffled. It wasn’t as if he couldn’t cook Chinese food at all—that was impossible.

After all, as a butler, he’d undergone professional training!

A butler could do it all: managing banquets, taking care of finances, even handling affairs discreetly. Cooking a Chinese meal? As long as the employer required it, there was nothing he couldn’t do!

But there was a kind of “incompetence” that stemmed from the employer saying you were “incompetent.”

The butler was just about to explain this to the little stammerer when he suddenly felt a sharp gaze on him. He looked up to meet the Alpha’s icy stare.

The butler: There’s killing intent!

The distance between them widened instantly. The next moment, the butler heard his employer’s voice, laced with coldness.

Min Yang: “Xiao Chen, have you taken Tutu for a walk?”

Upon hearing its name, Tutu, the Alaskan Malamute, jumped up excitedly, circling the sofa. Tutu needed two to three hours of exercise every day. The butler lowered his head and replied, “Tutu has already been for a walk today.”

Min Yang made an executive decision for Tutu: “It wants to go out for another walk.”

The butler: ???

Tutu: Woof woof?

Min Yang, being authoritarian, commanded, “Take it out for another two hours.”

After a moment of consideration, Min Yang added, “No, make it three hours.”

Finally, checking his watch, Min Yang firmly stated, “Don’t come back before nine.”

It was unclear whether these words were directed at the butler or the Alaskan Malamute.

In any case, the butler and Tutu left together. The living room returned to its quiet state, and in the semi-open kitchen, Min Yang lowered his head as the fresh aroma of radish and corn soup bubbled in the pot, with golden corn segments faintly visible in the broth.

It was warm, cozy, and… almost felt like a home.

But… the little stammerer wasn’t his lover, was he? Min Yang suddenly realized.

Right, the little stammerer… was a burden forced on him by his stepmother to humiliate him. Their relationship should have been marked by reluctance, with clear divisions between them at every turn.
