SL Chapter 6

No Need for Concern

While Tang Zhe was rinsing Min Yang’s hand under the water, he had already messaged the butler. With special permission, the butler and Tutu no longer had to be “voluntarily” walking until nine or ten o’clock and returned shortly with burn ointment.

Tang Zhe carefully applied the ointment, while Min Yang opened his mouth a few times as if to say something, only to stop each time, the lingering sweetness of grapefruit on his lips holding back his words.

“Hoo…” Tang Zhe, imitating how he used to comfort himself as a child, gently blew on Min Yang’s finger.

The Alpha’s fingertip trembled slightly.

Tang Zhe immediately grew anxious, “Mr… Mr. Min, does… does it still… still hurt?”

The butler, standing nearby, thought to himself that this was the wrong person to ask.

The butler had been with the Min family for a few years before Tang Zhe arrived. In his memory, Min Yang had been injured many times. The Min family’s business was vast and far from being as clean as it appeared on the surface. Especially in the chaotic years when the family was rife with infighting, Min Yang was constantly surrounded by wolves.

Min Yang’s stepmother had always sought to drive a wedge between him and his father, nearly forcing Min Yang to leave the family business altogether.

The scar on Min Yang’s brow was from that time.

Those people had made a firm decision to take Min Yang’s life. Despite his caution, he couldn’t anticipate every attack. The worst incident involved tampering with his car and enlisting another group, with intentions of killing him in cold blood.

When the butler found Min Yang, he had a gaping wound on his forehead and multiple fractures all over his body. Yet, even after lying in the hospital for over a month, the Alpha never once complained about the pain.

Tang Zhe, not hearing an answer from Min Yang, looked over in confusion, only to see the Alpha staring down, lost in thought.

Min Yang was simply deep in contemplation.

The burn on his finger was, to him, a minor injury—just a small burn, nothing significant. But what puzzled Min Yang was that his sense of touch seemed off, for example…

When he accidentally touched the edge of the scalding hot pot, he hadn’t felt much pain—perhaps because the contact was too brief. But just now, when the little stammerer had gently held his hand and breathed softly on it, Min Yang had felt his entire finger heat up, as if it were on fire.

Even his whole hand, where it was held, seemed to radiate warmth.

This was strange.

Min Yang was so absorbed in his thoughts that he didn’t hear Tang Zhe’s question. When he finally looked up and met Tang Zhe’s confused gaze, he snapped back to reality.

With a stern expression, Min Yang tried to hide the fleeting, subtle emotions that had crossed his mind, then pulled his hand away. He habitually rubbed his brow, his thumb tracing the scar that ran across his brow bone before resting at his temple.

—This was his subconscious action whenever he felt troubled.

Tang Zhe grew nervous again.

The little stammerer had noticed the scar on the Alpha’s brow long ago—it looked like a knife wound, close to the tail end of his brow. Though the scar wasn’t deep, it was dangerously close to his eye. Tang Zhe couldn’t bear to think what might have happened if the wound had been just a little lower.

Thinking about the complex and dangerous situation within the Min family, Tang Zhe’s eyes reddened slightly.

How much pain must Mr. Min have endured when he got that injury?

Tang Zhe raised his hand and gently touched the scar on Min Yang’s brow, feeling the slight roughness under his fingertips. “Mr… Mr. Min,”

Tang Zhe’s hands were small, well-proportioned, and pale, with soft fingertips, unlike Min Yang’s hands, which were roughened from years of combat training.

Tang Zhe’s touch was light, like the flutter of a butterfly that barely dared to land.

“Does… does your wound… hurt again?” Tang Zhe stammered, but he tried his best to convey his concern clearly.

The butterfly’s wings, however, stirred up a storm.

Min Yang reacted like a cat whose fur had been ruffled the wrong way, his voice cold as he turned his head away, “It doesn’t hurt, let go!”

Though his tone was fierce and unapproachable, if you listened closely, you could hear the tension underlying his voice.

Min Yang wanted to say that this wound was nothing. The burn, too, was insignificant.

He… didn’t need anyone’s careful care, nor did he need anyone’s concern. After all, no relationship lasts forever, and Min Yang didn’t believe anyone would care about another person without reason.

His connection with the little stammerer was only temporary, a forced arrangement due to circumstances beyond their control.

The only person he could truly rely on was himself, Min Yang reminded himself. Just like the scar on his brow—the people who had tampered with his car were dealt with, and anyone who tried to mess with him afterward hadn’t met a good end.

He was never a good person.

Min Yang gradually calmed down, the Alpha closing his eyes briefly. “Tang Zhe—”

Remember your place.

Before he could finish his sentence, he felt a warmth in his arms.

The Tang family didn’t like the little stammerer, and he wasn’t very good at comforting others. He had only heard in dramas that when someone was sad, a hug could help. Tang Zhe didn’t know if it would work, nor was he sure if Min Yang would appreciate it.

But it was all he knew how to do.

So, the little stammerer gathered his courage, trying to share his warmth with Min Yang.

In a soft but determined voice, the little stammerer said, “Mr… Mr. Min, don’t… don’t be afraid.”

I’m here, and I’ll stay with you.

Even though… I don’t know much, if someone tries to hurt you again, I can at least stand in front of you.
