[Could it be that I ate too many mushrooms for lunch today and now I’m hallucinating? God Du, how could he?]
[!!!]
[aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, I declare both of them to be locked1Locked together, chained. Basically, this person is shipping them together.!]
[awsl2Chinese slang for “That’s so cute”]
CP fans started to rejoice as Candy and Crane fans, who had finally reacted, started to control the comments.
[God Du is such a good national3This is a slang for “Most desirable” teammate!]
[God Du must have been impressed by Lin Jianghe’s resilient will, that’s why!]
[He’s not going to take away my little Crane, no dating, no dating!.]
Tao ge led the applause, Shen Zhizhi greeted the two with a wink, Guang Ling directly began to shout praises, Liu Jingjing also had a smile on her face, but a deep dash of cynicism was hidden under her eyes; why was his life so good? Why wasn’t she the person in the same group as God Du?!
If Lin Jianghe knew what she was thinking, he would have asked her: I understand all the reasoning, but big sister, do you know how to cook?
Amidst the applause, Lin Jianghe finally came back to his senses. Feeling his violently beating heart, he pursed his lips and finally made up his mind, wanting to say something, but the words quietly twisted by the time they reached his lips, and instead turned into a simple “Thank you, Brother Du.”
“We’re teammates,” Du Tang said, lowering his eyelids and turning his face away, as if he were saying it to someone else, but also as if he was saying it to himself.
“Hmm,” Lin Jianghe nodded his head vigorously while unconsciously looking away.
The atmosphere was a little awkward, but fortunately Tao ge spoke up in time to break the deadlock.
“Well, today’s competition is finally over, and now I’ll announce the results. Group B is first, Group D is second, Group A is third and Group C is fourth.”
When Zhang Tao finished his announcement, Du Tang and Lin Jianghe also returned to the initial platform and stood with the others.
“This is the end of this episode, thank you all for watching, we’ll see you next Saturday.”
[Brother Tao, see you next week!]
[Brother Tao no! Tao ge is so heartless, I don’t want it to end, I still want to watch more!]
[QWQ Looking forward to next week’s show.]
[Time flies, see you next week.]
[See you next week.]
[See you next week, man.]
[See you next week, man.]
[Is there something wrong upstairs? Will the guests be changed next week? Or is your male god actually Tao Ge?]
[?!!! Wow.]
After the show ended, the crowd said goodbye to each other and left by car.
As they were saying goodbye, Shen Zhizhi shared his WeChat username with Lin Jianghe, obviously admiring him as a junior.
Guang Ling also left his own contact information as well as that of his manager, inviting him to make a joint album with their company.
Liu Jingjing also left his contact details for Lin Jianghe with a kind face. Lin Jianghe looked at her with a smile that did not reach his eyes and secretly put her on the list of people to be wary of.
However, Du Tang did not say anything more to Lin Jianghe and turned around to leave.
Looking at Du Tang’s back, Lin Jianghe let out a sigh of relief for no reason.
Liu Jingjing gave Lin Jianghe a glance, and a touch of hidden complacency arose in her heart.
You thought you were so powerful, but didn’t god Du still ignore you?
After Liu Jingjing left, Lin Jianghe took a bus back to the Jinjiang company building with Tao ge and the staff on site.
By the time Lin Jianghe reached the company, Xiao Ai was already waiting at the entrance with an anxious face.
“Jiang He, Mr. Gu has something for you.”
“Okay, I’ll go over there now.”
Lin Jianghe nodded and gave Xiao Ai a smile before taking the lift and arriving at the door of Gu Changfeng’s office. He was about to knock on the door when Gu Changfeng’s voice suddenly came from inside the room.
“It’s Jiang He, right? There’s no need to knock, just come straight in.”
Gu Changfeng’s face was normal, and he was sitting on his office chair and gesturing for Lin Jianghe to feel free to take his seat. Lin Jianghe hesitated for a moment, but still sat on the seat he had sat on before, instead of the seat that Li Gui had sat on last time.
Gu Changfeng laughed lightly, but did not raise any objection, it was better for young people to be modest.
Lin Jianghe spoke up in confusion, “How did Mr. Gu know that the person at the door was me?”
“You are the only person I have an appointment with today.”
Lin Jianghe nodded in understanding, “I wonder what Mr Gu asked me to come over for?”
“You have a superior vocal quality, have you ever thought of becoming a singer?”
When he decided to open his mouth to sing, Lin Jianghe had already guessed such an outcome, and the reason why his mobile phone hadn’t been called yet was entirely because he had changed his mobile phone number before, and not many people knew this number.
Looking at Gu Changfeng like this, and the telephone that had its line pulled out4I feel like this portion might be confusing to some, so I thought I’d clarify it. Since MC changed his phone number and not many people can contact him, they contacted GCF instead, and GCF had to pull out the line to disconnect the telephone to get some peace., he was afraid that he had already been contacted by many people.
“To be honest, I have thought about it, but I still prefer being a food anchor, I want ……”
“–More people to get pleasure from food!” As if anticipating something, Gu Changfeng picked up on his words.
“Do you know how many people have contacted me today? Do you know how much success you would achieve if you were a singer?”
Gu Changfeng looked at him coldly, and Lin Jianghe’s face showed determination as he met his gaze without fear.
“I know that already, Mr. Gu, you don’t need to persuade me anymore.”
Gu Changfeng suddenly laughed softly, the cold and solemn expression he had melted away like ice and snow. He nodded to Lin Jianghe and his attitude became much more cordial.
“Good, there aren’t many young people like you who stick to their ideals nowadays. Don’t worry, I’ll help you with the pressure from outside, you won’t have to worry about getting disturbed in your normal life.”
Lin Jianghe looked at Gu Changfeng suspiciously. He had thought that the two people would have to go back and forth and have a war of words before they could achieve their goal.
He had even prepared himself to become a singer while working as a food anchor. He had never expected Gu Changfeng to be such a person of character!
Gu Changfeng glanced at Lin Jianghe, whose gaze was a bit dull, and shook his head with a sigh, “To be honest, I envy and admire you for being determined to do what you want to do.”
“Whereas I can only do what my parents have planned for me.”
Lin Jianghe frowned, “Thank you, Mr Gu, for being willing to support me, but the company’s top brass might–,” he glanced worriedly at Gu Changfeng and stopped talking, “I don’t want to drag you down because of myself, Mr Gu.”
Gu Changfeng smiled faintly, his eyes taking on a bit of warmth, “There is no need to worry, I am actually the founder as well as the largest shareholder of Jinjiang Company.”
Lin Jianghe glanced at Gu Changfeng in surprise, yet there was some hesitation in his words, “So will this put pressure on the company?”
Although he had little interest in being a professional singer, he did not want to drag others down because of himself.
“Don’t worry, I’m actually the young proprietor of Hanxi Pictures and I will be going back to inherit the family business soon.”
Gu Changfeng gazed up to the sky at a forty-five degree angle, with a bright yet melancholic look in his eyes.
Lin Jianghe was speechless, looking at the sad-faced Gu Changfeng, his hands felt a little itchy.
Was this the legendary rich second generation5富二代 fù èr dài children of entrepreneurs who became wealthy under Deng Xiaoping’s economic reforms in the 1980s. A Korean equivalent would be chaebol. Basically, People you should aim to eat when you say ‘eat the rich’.? They really are terrible!
“Mr. Gu, if there’s nothing else, I’ll leave first.”
“Don’t rush off yet, I still have something to tell you. I’ve paired you with an agent, here’s his contact information.”
Gu Changfeng reached out and handed out a business card, “Also I’m only five years older than you, you can call me Brother Gu from now on, don’t call me Mr. Gu, you’re making me feel old.”
“Okay, Brother Gu.” Lin Jianghe answered obediently.
“There’s one more thing,” Gu Changfeng’s eyebrows revealed a bit of worry, “Du Tang is not a simple character, you shouldn’t be too concerned about his performance in the show.”
Du Tang was far from being as amiable as he seemed to be. He had helped many people over the years under the guise of promoting his juniors, but all those who had tried to go further with him had been rejected by him.
It’s not that no one has ever tried to play tricks on him, it’s just that none of these people came to any good. Du Tang, however, was still known as a great figure in the entertainment industry.
His own6Du Tang’s father had said that he was not a simple man. If he hadn’t seemed to have some scruples, that pair of mother and son would never have gotten away with it until now.
Lin Jianghe, however, did not know what was on Gu Changfeng’s mind. He felt a bit curious and wanted to learn more, but Gu Changfeng waved his hand and told him to leave.
Many years later, Gu Changfeng recalled the situation and hated himself for not saying more at that time just because he’d wanted to be prudent. As a result, his white and tender little brother was carried away by a big gray wolf.
……
On the other hand, Du Tang was sitting at the dining table, receiving teachings from his stepmother.
“You child, why didn’t you bring Xiao Lin back too?” Li Wenwen looked at Du Tang who was alone, her eyelashes slightly drooping. A hint of a sneer flashed beneath her eyes.
She originally saw that Du Tang and Lin Jianghe got along well in the show and thought she had accidentally found a soul mate for him. Unexpectedly, Du Tang still didn’t bring him home for dinner. It seemed that the two of them had an average relationship.
“Aunty7She’s referring to herself in third person. Also, She’s not called aunty cuz she’s really his aunt or smth, it’s just a way you refer to elder women (whether related or not) in asian countries. let you marry him because she heard he was a good boy. Aunty wanted you to have a companion and not always be alone ah. You’re so lively on TV, but how come you’re so quiet in your day-to-day life?”
“Everything on TV is an act.” Du Tang’s eyes flashed with a cold light and his face was expressionless.
How could he like the person she had arranged and brought back? Everything he did before was just a show.
The person she had arranged must be as good at disguise as she was, one could not jump in the same pit twice8jumping in a pit: falling into a trap. ML is saying he won’t fall to the same trap again..
“I don’t remember you being like this when you were a kid.” Li Wenwen continued.
“People do change.” Du Tang’s words seemed to contain deep meaning.
Li Wenwen paused for a moment, perhaps thinking of something from the past, and said nothing more.
Du Tang’s birth mother had bled too much while giving birth to him and had unfortunately passed away before she even had a chance to take a single look at him. When Du Tang was five years old, his father, Du Hai, married Li Wenwen, who had just graduated from university, in order to take care of his family.
When she first married into the Du family, Li Wenwen was very kind to him, treating him as if he were her own son, without a trace of selfishness, so Du Tang, who had lost his mother at a young age, finally experienced the love of a mother.
Unfortunately, people change. When Du Tang was nine years old, she became pregnant and gradually began to think for herself and her own son. Over the years, she had schemed against Du Tang many times, both explicitly and implicitly.
Du Tang was kind to her at the beginning and had been quite tolerant of her over the years. In her last life, she even took advantage of the last shred of intolerance that Du Tang had for her and killed him with her own hands.
In this new life, Du Tang felt that he was already an enemy to her and would not show her any mercy.
I have really, really started hating on the audience reactions. I wish they would just stfu.___*( ̄皿 ̄)/#____
I didn’t feel so irritated about them when I first read this story, and honestly, I normally find the audience comments to be pretty cute and entertaining (which is why I decided to choose a showbiz transmigration novel as one of the first stories to translate), but this is just ┻━┻ ︵ヽ(`Д´)ノ︵ ┻━┻
This might be due to the large amount of research I have to do on Chinese slangs, or maybe it’s because comments don’t need to follow basic grammar structure so authors just go gaga and let themselves go when they write it, which makes it a bit difficult for a novice like me to understand what they are trying to say. It might also be cuz these particular comments are really immature, childish and repetitive when you read them again and again. No matter the reason, I’ve decided to give more love, support and encouragement to the translators who translate showbiz novels. It’s certainly not as easy as I’d believed it to be.
Anyways, if you read my ranting till the end, I thank you for staying with me. The next update…. will probably be next week (unless I get possessed by a passionate showbiz webnovel translator, in which case, you’ll be in for a treat)
