TL: Moonlit
Lin Yue drove to Xia Jue’s house and hurriedly parked the car by the roadside before rushing to ring the doorbell.
It took a long time for the door to slowly open.
Lin Yue rushed inside and was surprised to see a robot. He had stayed at Xia Jue’s house for a week, but it was the first time he saw a robotic butler there.
He couldn’t help but take a closer look.
Once inside, he didn’t see Xia Jue anywhere. Lin Yue called out, but there was no response, and his worries grew.
He ran upstairs, intending to check on Xia Jue in his room.
As he turned the corner of the stairs, he saw Xia Jue sitting on the floor, with his legs twisted in an unnatural position. Lin Yue was startled and quickly ran up to him. “Xia Jue, are you okay?”
“I’m not doing very well. I’m sorry for calling you over; I couldn’t find anyone else.”
Xia Jue didn’t know how long he had endured here before finally being able to contact Lin Yue. His face was pale, and even his lips had lost their color.
Lin Yue reached out and hugged him around the waist, lifting him up. “I’ll take you to the hospital.”
He didn’t ask Xia Jue how he ended up in this state; right now, all he wanted was to make him feel better.
During the week they spent together, it was the first time he had seen Xia Jue reveal such a fragile side, which made him inexplicably feel a bit heartbroken.
As he helped Xia Jue into the car, Lin Yue looked at him, who remained silent. “Does it hurt a lot? Hang on; we’ll be there soon.”
Xia Jue raised his gaze and there was a hint of a smile in his purple eyes.
Lin Yue pursed his lips. “You can still smile at a time like this, so it can’t be that painful.”
“It hurts. I didn’t expect you to come.”
Xia Jue leaned slightly against the back of the seat, his voice somewhat hoarse, indicating that he was enduring the pain from the broken leg.
“How could I not come? You messaged me, and when I see that, I’ll come. Isn’t that what friends do?”
In Lin Yue’s understanding, nobody should ignore a friend’s plea for help.
In fact, even when a stranger is in difficulty and seeks help from another stranger, they are likely to receive assistance.
“You’re the first one.” Xia Jue’s abrupt remark made Lin Yue’s heart tighten involuntarily. He couldn’t help but recall what his manager had told him before, that Xia Jue was a reclusive and aloof person who rarely attended gatherings.
“Why would that be? Don’t you have any other friends? I believe that whoever you call for help would…” Lin Yue tried to reason.
“I don’t have any friends,” Xia Jue looked at him, a touch of melancholy in his smile. “You probably find it strange. The rumors about me outside are mostly true – that I’m introverted, cold, and difficult to get along with.”
“But why is it that when I’m with you, I don’t feel you’re introverted, cold, or difficult to get along with? My personal experience should be the most authentic, and I trust what I see and have experienced. You’re not the way people describe you. You… are good.”
As Lin Yue expressed his understanding of Xia Jue, he didn’t know how to convey his thoughts. He wasn’t sure if Xia Jue was showing his vulnerable side because of the injury. Overall, he didn’t like seeing this person lacking confidence.
Perhaps he had become accustomed to seeing Xia Jue’s confident and splendid side.
Xia Jue gently curved his lips. “So, in your eyes, I’m not that bad after all.”
“Of course, to be honest, I don’t have many friends either, and now you’re one of them.”
Lin Yue drove into the hospital gate and got out of the car. He wanted to carry Xia Jue, but his offer was rejected.
With Lin Yue’s support, Xia Jue got out of the car, his broken leg slightly bent.
A hospital attendant waiting by the entrance saw this and immediately brought over a wheelchair.
They went all the way to the orthopedics department. While Xia Jue underwent an examination, Lin Yue took care of the paperwork.
Along the way, he was recognized by several fans and had to sign autographs, finally managing to excuse himself by saying he was waiting for his friend.
When Lin Yue returned after completing the payment, Xia Jue’s leg had been treated, and they wheeled him into the hospital room.
Seeing Lin Yue, who was sweating, rushing back, Xia Jue apologized, “I’m sorry for troubling you today. Leave it here and go rest.”
Lin Yue waved his hand and sat on a chair. He noticed the water nearby, poured a glass, and drank it to catch his breath. “It’s not because of you. I was surrounded by fans downstairs just now, but luckily, I managed to get away. By the way, what did the doctor say? Is your condition serious?”
“It’s just a fracture. As long as I rest for one or two months, it’ll be fine. It won’t affect the filming schedule, and I’ll hire someone to help out then.”
“No, even though it’s just a fracture, you should take your time to recover. There’s no rush in the next few months, and there are still arrangements to be made for locations and other things. It won’t delay much. You should focus on healing. By the way, are you hungry? I am. I’ll send a message to order some food to be delivered. Let’s ask the doctor if there are any dietary restrictions.”
“No, that’s troublesome.”
“Why are you suddenly being so polite? I thought after this incident, our relationship would improve a bit. Ah, but now I feel like you’ve become cold. Director Xia, I genuinely wanted to be friends with you, so please treat me better.”
After Lin Yue finished speaking, he gave Xia Jue a bright smile and then turned around to send a message to Ai Su Gourmet Restaurant for food delivery.
Unaware of Xia Jue’s hand clenching tightly on the blanket.
Lin Su had nothing much to do recently, so sometimes he would come to the restaurant to help Su Jin.
Ai Su Gourmet Restaurant offered delivery service for one hour at noon every day. Passing by the notification area, Lin Su decided to take an order.
Unexpectedly, the order was from Lin Yue.
When he heard that he was at the hospital, Lin Su was startled. “Third Brother, why are you at the hospital? Are you feeling unwell?”
Thinking about Lin Yue’s mental disorder, Lin Su’s heart tightened.
“Xiao Su?” Surprisingly, it was Lin Su who answered his message. Lin Yue immediately smiled and said, “It’s not me; it’s for a friend who broke his leg. I came to help. Why are you at the restaurant, Xiao Su?”
“I’m preparing to develop some new dishes. It’s for your friend, not for you, right?”
“If something happened to me, wouldn’t I tell you all? New dishes? Can I order some to taste?”
“Of course, leave your address, and I’ll have it sent over.”
“Alright.”
After finishing the call with Lin Su, Lin Yue returned to the room and saw Xia Jue sleeping.
When a man sleeps, he looks completely harmless. In fact, with Xia Jue’s conditions, even if he pursued acting, he would likely become quite popular.
It didn’t take long for Ai Su’s food to arrive, and Lin Yue kept Xia Jue’s portion aside without waking him up.
After filling his stomach, Lin Yue left a note and prepared to go back to pack his things and come back to accompany Xia Jue.
Given Xia Jue’s current condition, he definitely couldn’t be left alone. And knowing his personality, if he left, Xia Jue would handle everything by himself.
If the injury were somewhere else, it wouldn’t be as concerning, but a leg injury made it difficult to go anywhere.
He took out the clothes he had just sent home and picked a few more, along with some clean clothes for Xia Jue.
When Lin Yue rushed back to the hospital, Xia Jue was already awake. His originally calm purple eyes instantly lit up. “Why are you…”
“Why so surprised? Didn’t you see the note I left for you? Oh, you haven’t even had your meal. Aren’t you hungry?”
Lin Yue casually tossed his luggage onto the nearby bed. “I said, Director Xia, you can go a whole day without eating and not feel hungry? How can I be at ease leaving you alone here like this?”
He took out the food he had kept in the insulated box and set it on a small table.
Xia Jue reached for the chopsticks, looking at him. “You don’t have to…”
“What do you mean, ‘don’t have to’? I brought everything with me, and I even brought you a change of clothes. But to be honest, if it weren’t for your leg injury, I wouldn’t come to take care of you.” Lin Yue patted his shoulder and said, “Alright, alright, eat your meal, Xia Laoshi!”
Xia Jue tightened the chopsticks in his hand. “Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it. I’ll make the bed.”
As Xia Jue watched Lin Yue turn around to tidy the bed, a faint smile tugged at the corners of his lips.
Meanwhile, Lin Su came back from outside. On the way, he contacted Qin Yi and scheduled an appointment for tomorrow to repair his beast pattern.
William stood up and walked over to hug him. “What are you smiling about?”
“I made an appointment with female father Qin Yi for tomorrow to repair his beast pattern.”
William nodded. “I’ll accompany you.”
“There’s one session left with Big Brother. After I finish repairing female father Qin Yi’s beast pattern, I’ll go for the final session with Big Brother. What do you think?”
“Whatever you arrange is fine.”
In the evening, Lin Su received another communication from Lin Yue, requesting to build connections with him and set up a monthly meal plan.
Lin Su raised an eyebrow playfully upon hearing Lin Yue describe the person as a “very good friend” over the communicator. “Third Brother, are you secretly dating someone behind our backs?”
Lin Yue was taken aback for a moment and then chuckled. “What are you thinking, little brother? It’s just a friend, but not that kind of friend. My friend is male, okay?”
Originally, Lin Su had just wanted to tease him and replied, “Fine, it’s a male friend. Sure, I’ll talk to female father Su Jin and arrange it for you.”
After ending the communication, Lin Su looked at William. “What kind of friend does Third Brother have? It seems like they have a really close relationship.”
William smiled and patted his head. “Perhaps they are just very good friends.”
“Yeah, you’re right.”
But for some reason, he still found it a bit strange.
The next morning, Lin Su and William went directly to Qin Yi’s place.
Qin Yi, who was already prepared, smiled when he saw them. “I knew you guys would arrive early today. Have you had breakfast?”
“Not yet. We came here specifically to mooch a meal from you.” Lin Su went over and hugged him, making Qin Yi’s face light up with a smile. He patted Lin Su gently and said, “Then let’s eat together.”
However, when they arrived at the dining table, they found out it was only the three of them. Lin En had gone to the military base early in the morning, Lin Te had moved out to live with Leng Tang after getting married, and both Lin Feng and Lin Yue didn’t return home.
Qin Yi also looked puzzled and said, “I don’t know what your second and third brothers are up to. Lin Yue came back in a hurry yesterday, took some clothes, and went out again, saying a friend needed help. As for your second brother, he hasn’t been home for two days since he said he was going to the Contract Beast Hall to have some fun with friends.”
Lin Su knew that Lin Feng was avoiding going home because of the incident where he was injured while saving Yan Qi. As for Lin Yue, he probably did have something to deal with.
After the meal, Qin Yi took Lin Su to the room that had been set up as the repair room, while William waited outside the door, showing consideration and not entering.
Lin Su sat down and watched Qin Yi change into loose-fitting clothes. An SS-grade beast pattern was on his back. Qin Yi lay down, “Xiao Su, take it easy. I don’t want you to work too hard.”
“I know, Female Father.”
An SS-grade beast pattern was one grade lower than SSS-grade. If he could repair more SS-grade beast patterns, he would ascend to level 4, and then he could help repair his big fox.
“Relax, Female Father. I’m going to begin.”
Little Green appeared from the spiritual domain and hopped onto Lin Su’s head. Green light emanated from Lin Su’s palm, and this time, Lin Su extended both his hands to cover Qin Yi’s back.
Soon, intricate and chaotic beast patterns appeared, transforming into threads of energy that were voraciously devoured.
The formidable power of the SS-grade left Lin Su feeling astonished. As expected, each grade from S and above was different.
Sweat soon beaded on his forehead as his energy was rapidly depleted, but Little Green restored it for him.
Lying on the bed, Qin Yi felt as if he was floating in a clear pool, experiencing a sense of freedom, ease, and comfort that was indescribable.
He couldn’t help but emit a soft moan of comfort.
As Little Green completed the final restoration of Lin Su’s energy, the little creature disappeared and returned to its dormant state in Lin Su’s spiritual domain.
In no time, Lin Su’s energy was once again depleted.
The green light vanished, and Lin Su slumped into a chair, while Qin Yi’s mind went blank, and he seemed somewhat dazed.
Lin Su ate some fruits to regain his strength and patiently waited for Qin Yi to regain his senses.
As the bamboo plants in the room disappeared one by one, Qin Yi finally regained consciousness. He blinked and immediately looked at Lin Su, who was sitting nearby with a pale complexion.
Seeing him come to his senses, Lins S stopped eating the fruits and smiled at him. “Female Father, how do you feel now?”
Qin Yi sat up. “I should be asking you how you’re doing. Are you very tired?”
Seeing Lin Su’s pale face, he felt distressed and gently stroked his head.
“I’m okay, just a bit tired, but Female Father, I gained a lot from this session. I feel great.”
He was just two SS-grade repairs away from ascending to level 4.
There was a knock on the door from outside, and Qin Yi smiled. “William must be anxious. Go and tell him.”
After their conversation, Qin Yi went inside to change his clothes. William looked at Lin Su’s pale face as he came out and touched him with concern. “Are you okay?”
Lin Su hugged his big fox, “Don’t worry, I’m completely fine.”
Qin Yi walked over, “William, take him to the room to rest.”
“Female Father, I really…”
“Listen to us.”
“Listen to us.”
Hearing both of them insist that he listens, Lin Su could only nod, “Okay, I’ll listen!”
Following William back to his room in the Lin family’s residence, although Lin Su didn’t feel tired, the frequent depletion of his energy took a toll on his stamina.
Lying on the bed and hugging William’s tail, Lin Su soon fell asleep.
Watching the sleeping little female beside him, William’s heart melted, and he gently reached out to stroke his hair. He dimmed the lights in the room.
—
After staying at Lin Te’s place for two days, Lin Feng had completely recovered.
Early that morning, Lin Feng went to the military headquarters with Lin Te.
The interrogation of the kidnappers had already concluded, and they confessed to the incidents of abducting Yan Qi.
The first kidnapping of Yan Qi was a coincidence.
The second kidnapping was premeditated.
As for the reasons, it was simply because after Lin Feng rescued Yan Qi and took him away, it led to the Empire issuing a wanted order for them.
Holding a grudge, they decided to kidnap Yan Qi, but they didn’t expect Lin Feng to appear midway.
After finishing the final record, Lin Feng came out and coincidentally met Yan Qi, who was also there to make a statement.
As soon as he saw him, Yan Qi walked over with a smile. “Lin Feng, are you alright?”
Lin Feng nodded. “I’m fine, how about you?”
“I’m also fine. My family is very grateful to you for what happened last time. They want to invite you to our home…”
“No need to be polite. If it weren’t for me calling you out that day, such a thing wouldn’t have happened. In fact, I ended up causing trouble for you. I should be the one apologizing.”
“Don’t think like that, Lin Feng. No one has the ability to foresee things, but the fact is that you saved me.”
Seeing the anxious expression on the little female’s face as he tried to explain, Lin Feng smiled and said, “Then let’s not be polite to each other. Are you going home now? Do you need me to escort you?”
“No, my big brother is waiting for me outside.”
“Okay, then. Let’s make plans to meet another day when we have time. I’ll leave now.”
Watching Lin Feng leave, Yan Qi bit his lip.
When Yan Shan saw Yan Qi coming out, he asked, “Why are you alone? Didn’t you meet Lin Feng?”
“I did. Lin Feng said there’s no need to be polite, so he declined.”
Yan Qi looked a bit desolate, and Yan Shan couldn’t help but feel a twinge of heartache at this inexplicable sight. “Well, if he doesn’t accept it, then let it be. Do you have any place you want to go? I have some free time today, so I can take you around.”
“Forget it. I want to go home.”
Yan Qi seemed uninterested in anything now, and there was an indescribable sense of discomfort in his heart, as if something was stuck there, unable to move up or down.
He couldn’t even explain the reason for it.
Yan Shan sighed and ruffled Yan Qi’s head. “Xiao Qi, is it because of Lin Feng?”
“No, brother, can you stop making wild guesses? There’s nothing between Lin Feng and me. To be honest, we’re not that close. He saved me twice, and I’m grateful to him, but it doesn’t mean I like him.”
After Yan Qi finished speaking, he directly opened the car door and got in, clearly not wanting to continue the conversation.
Yan Shan looked at him, feeling a slight sinking in his heart, but he didn’t press on with the topic.
After Lin Feng got in the car, he received a communication from Lin Te: “Are you heading back?”
“Yeah, I’ll be heading home directly in a while. Thanks for taking care of things for with Leng Tang these past two days.”
“Just know what you’re doing. If something like this happens again, think about the consequences.”
Clearly, Lin Te didn’t approve of Lin Feng’s heroic actions.
Lin Feng chuckled, “You’re free to criticize me. If you ever encounter something like this in the future, I hope you’ll be able to think the same way. But let’s hope neither of us ever has to face such situations again.”
Lin Te also knew that some things were ingrained and not easily changed.
So, he didn’t continue with the topic and instead said, “Yan Qi came to make a statement today too. Did you two see each other?”
“We saw each other and exchanged a few words.”
Lin Te smiled, “What do you think of Yan Qi?”
Lin Feng raised an eyebrow, “What do you mean? Don’t tell me you think there’s something between him and me. Don’t tease.”
Upon hearing this, Lin Te understood that his younger brother wasn’t very open-minded. “Lin Feng, you’re not that young anymore. You should start thinking about some things and not focus solely on your research.”
“I know. Big brother, you also just recently found true love. Before that, you were always focused on work, right?”
Lin Te suddenly didn’t want to talk anymore. He wasn’t exactly the best example. He coughed lightly, “Alright, suit yourself. I don’t have the right to say anything.”
After ending the call with Lin Te, Lin Feng sat in the car, silent for a while, and then drove back home.
When Qin Yi saw him come in from outside, he said, “You’re back. There’s food in the pot.”
Lin Feng nodded. “Are you the only one at home?”
“Xiao Su and William are resting upstairs. Lin Yue hasn’t come back yet. Oh, by the way, is your friend alright?”
“Ah, it’s nothing,” Lin Feng quickly changed the topic when Qin Yi mentioned it. “I’m just hungry, let’s go eat.”
Qin Yi glanced at him, “Have you been in contact with the Yan family recently?”
Hearing the name “Yan,” Lin Feng’s heart trembled, “Ah, what’s the matter?”
“Just now, the Yan family patriarch sent a communication, expressing gratitude, and they want to invite us to the Ai Su Gourmet Restaurant. What’s going on?”
Lin Feng blinked, “Oh, it’s just that I helped Yan Qi with a small favor. They’re really too polite; I already said it wasn’t necessary.”
Qin Yi looked at him, his face expressionless.
However, just that look made Lin Feng nervous, “Cough… I… I made it up, I won’t continue the story!”
In an instant, Lin Feng understood everything. Qin Yi knew.
“I’m sorry, Female Father.” Lin Feng moved closer, apologizing pitifully. Qin Yi glared at him, “I’ve noticed that all of you are keeping secrets from me. Such a big matter, and you all kept it from me, message your male father and big brother, and ask them to come back for a meeting!”
Qin Yi had an air of ‘If you don’t behave well, you’re going to get it,’ and Lin Feng knew he was in trouble.
When Lin Su woke up, he found Lin Te at the head and Lin Yue at the tail, both kneeling in the center of the living room, holding a basin of water in their hands.
His male father, Lin En, stood on the side, silent.
Qin Yi sat on the sofa, “All of you, bring the water here. Sprinkle some on yourselves; tonight, no one’s going to sleep.”
Lin Su looked at William with suspicion, silently asking what was going on.
William chuckled and pulled him upstairs. “Lin Feng’s secret was found out. Your female father is giving them a lesson.”
Lin Su widened his eyes in shock, “Then doesn’t that make me an accomplice?”
William smiled and ruffled his hair, “Don’t worry, your female father won’t be hard on you.”
“But I feel a little guilty for my brothers,” Lin Su said and then quickly climbed back into bed, covering himself with the blanket. “Just pretend I’m still asleep. That way, I won’t know, and ignorance is bliss.”
William was amused by Lian Su’s actions and words; he couldn’t help but find his little partner so adorable!
“Okay, I’ll keep it a secret for you,” William replied.
Lin Su smiled and held William’s hand, saying, “Thanks for cooperating.”
Then, they couldn’t hold back their laughter, feeling that both of them were acting so childishly.
Facing Qin Yi’s anger, Lin En still felt timid, even though he didn’t have to accept the punishment of carrying water.
Qin Yi’s angry glares seemed to fly one after another, making him feel like he might as well kneel and carry water with the kids.
Lin Yue, holding the water, looked quite aggrieved. He had only come back to pick up something, but why did he have to run into this situation? What did he have to do with all of this? He didn’t even know about his second brother’s heroics or he’ll definitely tell their female father!
He felt so innocent!
He felt utterly wronged!
