TBA Chapter 38

The Awkward Professor

Shen Mo hadn’t left his house for two whole days, and he certainly wasn’t planning to go out today. After confirming that Jiang Xiaosi had used a type of ink that, while simple, required a specific preparation process to remove, he gave up trying to get rid of the mark.

He sent out a few ghosts and shikigami to gather information and then began his healing process. Of course, that was when someone knocked on the door. When he opened it, he saw Xiao Tang standing there.

“What do you want?!” Shen Mo’s voice was even colder and more severe than usual, clearly showing that he was in a bad mood.

“P-Professor, are you feeling better?”

“I’m fine.” Shen Mo blocked the entrance as if he had no intention of letting him inside. Xiao Tang awkwardly smiled and tried to squeeze his way in, shivering from the cold wind outside.

“What do you want?”

Faced with Shen Mo’s sharp, piercing gaze in the living room, Xiao Tang swallowed nervously. The surrounding temperature seemed to drop to freezing levels. He thought to himself, ‘Didn’t we just go through life and death together? How could he turn hostile so quickly?’

Shen Mo couldn’t understand his muttering and sharply interrupted, “Speak up!”

Xiao Tang flinched.

“Well, Professor, I wanted to investigate Mei Residence, but it disappeared overnight, like it was wiped off the face of the earth. There’s no trace of it left.”

Xiao Tang was out of breath as he spoke.

Shen Mo had expected this. “What about the staff there?”

“They don’t know anything. They were all given a day off, and when they returned, the entire place was gone. Didn’t Kou Dan mention that they had an underground restaurant serving human meat? The police are questioning everyone, but I doubt they know nothing.”

“No need to question them. They were employing ghost chefs. With Mei Xin being so cautious, it won’t be easy to find any clues.”

“They say you can’t hide forever. I can’t believe such a large estate could just vanish into thin air.”

“The priority now is to strictly control the sale of type B blood. The blood banks must be tightly guarded.”

“That’s tough to prevent. If we push him too hard, he might start killing people directly. So many have already died.”

“He’s not fully formed yet and has suffered a major setback. Knowing that I’ve set a trap for him, he won’t be so reckless. We just need to buy some time until I recover and find Kou Dan.”

“Still no news about Kou Dan? The search teams haven’t found anything either.”

“Jiang Xiaosi seems to have some leads.”

“Professor? What’s that on your forehead?” Xiao Tang noticed a faint red mark and asked curiously.

Shen Mo swatted away Xiao Tang’s hand, which was reaching to move his hair aside, and turned to go upstairs.

“Goodbye.”

The door to Shen Mo’s study slammed shut. Xiao Tang rubbed the back of his hand, feeling aggrieved. He had come to check on Shen Mo’s condition out of concern, yet he was met with such coldness. And to think he had even brought medicine! Hmph, so he didn’t want to be seen because he hadn’t washed his face this morning?

Xiao Tang pulled a small bottle of Yunnan Baiyao from his pocket and set it on the table. Just then, his phone rang. Seeing who was calling, he frowned deeply. ‘Oh no, the Pink Lady.’ Did she really have to call him ten times a day to bother him?

He answered the phone as he left Shen Mo’s house. As he passed by the campus gate, he noticed a monk wearing a bamboo hat and couldn’t help but glance at him twice.

After a day of shopping, Jiang Xiaosi hesitated at the door for a long time before finally unlocking it and stepping inside. She was relieved to find that Shen Mo wasn’t home, but also felt a little disappointed.

Yesterday, she had been too impulsive and ended up taking advantage of him. Now, she felt a bit embarrassed to face him. She shyly recalled that sweet kiss and covered her mouth, giggling.

When Shen Mo returned home, he immediately sensed that something was off. Jiang Xiaosi happily peeked out of the kitchen, wearing an apron around her neck, her cheeks pink.

“Professor, you’re back!” But then she noticed someone behind Shen Mo—it was Master Yixiu.

“Master Yixiu, you’re here too? Please, sit down for dinner. I’m sorry I didn’t know you were coming, so all I made were meat dishes. You’ll have to make do with plain rice.”

“Amitabha.” Yixiu, with a dignified and serene expression, sat at the table, waiting for the meal.

Shen Mo glanced around and coldly asked, “Why did you change my incense?”

Jiang Xiaosi froze for a moment and quickly explained, “The Shenshen Incense isn’t good for your health if you smell it too much, so I…”

“Who said you could?”

Shen Mo’s cold interruption left Jiang Xiaosi feeling like a scolded child. “Should… should I change it back?”

“From now on, without my permission, don’t touch anything in my house!”

Shen Mo didn’t eat dinner and went straight to his study. Yixiu, watching Jiang Xiaosi stand there in a daze, tapped the table to remind her that he was waiting for his rice.

Jiang Xiaosi snapped back to reality and quickly served him. After a few bites, Yixiu said gently, “The day you get him to stop burning that incense will be the day you get what you want.”

“Master, do you know what I want?”

“Do you know what you want?” Yixiu countered.

Jiang Xiaosi remained silent.

“Shen Mo is stubborn and difficult, but his biggest weakness is his soft heart. Whether it’s an apology or something else, go and soothe him. You should know that right now, he’s just looking for an excuse to get angry with you.”

Jiang Xiaosi was confused. Was the professor just looking for reasons to be mad at her? Didn’t they just “bond” last night? Could he really be so petty and hold a grudge over something as small as a kiss? After all, a kiss doesn’t take away any part of him.

Determined, she ran upstairs. She knocked on the door, but there was no response, so she pushed it open and walked in.

“Get out.” Shen Mo’s lazy voice came from the bed, where he was leaning back with a book.

Jiang Xiaosi, undeterred, walked over and closely examined him. She noticed that the mark she had stamped on his forehead was completely gone.

Shen Mo, seeing her approach, remembered how she had pinned him down the night before and felt a chill run down his spine. He quickly got up from the bed and sat on a chair on the other side of the room.

“Professor, where’s my mark?”

“What mark?”

“The stamp I put on your forehead!”

The mention of the stamp made Shen Mo’s temper flare. “I gave you that stamp so you could use it properly, not to mess around!”

“I wasn’t messing around! I only stamp things that belong to me. I’ve stamped all my clothes, books, and even Little Pudding’s butt.”

Shen Mo’s mouth twitched in frustration. So she thought his forehead was the same as a dog’s butt?

“Hurry up and remove it!”

“Didn’t you already wipe it off?”

‘Wipe it off?’ No, he had just used a simple illusion.
