GCCB Chapter 47

Throwing Up

The main street was just a wall’s distance away from them.

In the mornings, there was the occasional hollering of stand owners, the clamor of pedestrians and beast riders coming and going along could also be faintly heard. Just from this point alone, Dazhao City was definitely livelier than Dayan City was.

Those sounds full of life spread into the bedroom. Shu Yu woke up in a warm, comfortable, and reassuring embrace, and she had to take a moment to blink away the drowsiness.

They have been living here for a few days now. Peaceful days like these could easily make someone feel lethargic, she had certainly become lazier in the last few days.

Within the Clear Wilderness, Shu Yu spent basically almost every day going out and fighting against demonic beasts or other demonkin. But now her daily activities – aside from occasionally swinging her sword – consisted of cleaning the yard and tidying up their house with Fu Wang. It was so peaceful it could bring about a slight inexplicable uneasiness in someone’s heart for no apparent reason.

“Are you awake? Or do you wish you sleep longer?” Fu Wang, as always, woke up earlier than her, but he didn’t get up first even after waking up, he always waited for Shu Yu to wake up as well, and then he would hug her and cuddle and snuzzle for a bit more underneath their quilt. Only after doing that, would he get up.

As he shifted and got up, Shu Yu rolled underneath the quilt on her own for a bit. It wasn’t until Fu Wang washed up, went out, and returned with breakfast bought from a breakfast stall around the corner, that Shu Yu sluggishly got up and squatted over the porch to wash up.

Shu Yu had fallen in love with a snack called “Pihua1 皮花; the first letter means “Skin, skim of something” and the second means “Flower”, literally translated is skin flower. I searched it up, and it’s also “ginned cotton”, and some other type of flowers which I gave up on investigating. that was sold at a breakfast stall around the corner. It was because it tasted extremely like the tofu pudding she used to eat at her grandmother’s house; her granny only had to mix in some sugar, and she could devour two big bowls by herself. That’s why Fu Wang would get up early every day and go buy it for her, then she’d sit down to drink the pihua while Fu Wang combed through her hair.

In the secret realm of the Clear Wilderness, she could get away with a casual ponytail, but here, to the public they were newlywed husband and wife, so even if she wasn’t like He Su’er who loved dressing up and wearing different complex and beautiful looks every day, she still had to comb her hair properly. Shu Yu was forever a klutz when it came to this though. Anyway, it was also Fu Wang who used to comb her hair a year or so ago at the Tianfeng Manor, so this was now handed over to him.

When he combed her hair, every day he would use a new hairpin. Shu Yu looked at her vanity, its ever-increasing amount of jewelry as well as some makeup tools that she has never used. There was also the yard which was being renovated more and more beautifully by Fu Wang.

There was an indescribable feeling in her heart, as if they were really just husband and wife setting up their peaceful and comfortable life here.

Every day, they’d wake up to the noise of the city, the husband would help his wife comb her hair and then go out every day to heal the sick and sell medicine, while his wife stayed at home to do whatever she wished or to chat with friends and passerbys. Then at dusk, the two would return home, sit under the porch, and eat dinner together and talk about interesting things that happened during their day. Then they’d bathe together and cuddle to sleep, drifting off to a beautiful dream of growing old together.

Shu Yu: I can’t really believe I transmigrated into this inhuman world, I survived the dangerous and nerve-wracking first few months and then the hectic time spent fighting, fighting, fighting, and more fighting. After becoming a capable fighter, I’m somehow now starting to trek on the path of farming.

All in all, Shu Yu’s heart was slightly uneasy, always feeling that something would happen.

She also suspected that Fu Wang seemed to be hiding something from her.

As for whether or not to investigate what he is hiding… Forget it. Her mom once said, when two people sincerely wanted to spend their days together, then they shouldn’t overly pick at each other, it wasn’t all that fine to become clear about every little thing either. Of course, the main reason was still Shu Yu’s great trust in Fu Wang, that he would never do anything that would hurt her, no matter what he was hiding.

So, in that case, she would pamper him a little more in this regard, after all he had married her~

“Today I’m going out as well. If Shu Yu needs me then head towards that acacia tree to find me,” Fu Wang said – just as he did every day – and left home while carrying his medicine box.

Shu Yu swung her sword in the yard for a bit. She used no spiritual energy, but the sword’s breath still sliced down a few recently planted flowers. Shu Yu sadly touched those flowers; she put away her sword and found a vase to insert them.

She didn’t go out much these few days. Aside from having gone shopping with Fu Wang twice to buy some daily necessities, as well as visiting the neighbors in front of their house, she had never gone out alone. However, in the modern era, she already had been someone who liked to be a shut in and be alone; her parents often tried tricking her into going outside for some fresh air, though they would fail nine point five times out of ten.

For such a girl who was slightly afraid of strangers and wasn’t very good at communicating with others and liked to do things on her own, there was nothing wrong with this place. Moreover, there was also Fu Wang who was worried she’d get stuffy and would make a bunch of gadgets and toys for her.

Speaking of which, He Su’er always said that he was extremely possessive, but it was only now that Shu Yu was gradually understanding this. When it came to Fu Wang’s possessiveness, it only got stronger and stronger. However, he was very good at pretending —— there was a filling within the depths of that possessiveness, wrapped with a layer of sweetness that was very lovely and soft. If she swallowed it, she would only become slightly tipsy from its sweetness, but she wouldn’t be able to muster a single iota of rejection against it.

Previously at the Tianfeng Manor, when the relationship between the two had not yet morphed and was an honest and pure cooperative relationship, Fu Wang wouldn’t care too much about her showing interest in other things. Afterwards, as the atmosphere between them became ambiguous and eventually poked through that layer of paper —— When it was only the two of them it wasn’t obvious, but now after leaving the Clear Wilderness, going to a much bigger world, and starting to encounter more people, some of Fu Wang’s hidden desires became more visible.

He didn’t like it when she interacted with others, such as when he kept a close eye on her all the time – even He Su’er was a target of his anxiety and suspicion – and he disliked when she cast her gaze on other people or even other objects. But at the same time, he would suppress his urges and would only occasionally act to divert her focus so she would pay more attention to him; he hasn’t forced her to do anything, as if afraid that she would immediately flip out and break up with him if he ever demanded too much of her.

Every time Shu Yu mentioned she would stay at home, she noticed that Fu Wang’s mood would be happier. He didn’t want her interacting with others, yet he was afraid of being too obvious about it and making her unhappy, and often tentatively asked her if she felt bored staying home. Every day he would find new and interesting things and display them before her —— with a posture that tried to conceal his anxiety.

But why would Fu Wang feel so unsettled? He was clearly an outstanding person; she should be the one that was feeling insecure. Fu Wang was prone to overthinking, and Shu Yu wasn’t someone who knew to use her words very well, so she didn’t know how to bring up these small things she had managed to observe in silence and clear them out with him, so she could only go along with what he wished and make him happy.

Yet, yet, the more willing she behaved, the more conflicted Fu Wang became. Shu Yu watched him struggle, but she couldn’t understand what he seemed to be struggling with. Sometimes she really wanted to just shove him down and have her way with him, and then domineeringly and coolly tell him, “Do not overthink, you are the only man I desire.”

Unfortunately, she only dared to fantasize about that.

That’s how it basically went; clever men always liked to overthink things and ended up fooled by their own intelligence. Shu Yu – somewhat helplessly – thought that Fu Wang was indeed a fussy little succubus. If he had the guts then he should just come at her, why torment himself whenever he had free time? Didn’t he get tired of it?

Shu Yu wanted to spoil Fu Wang more and carefully thought of things she could do for him, but after looking around, she realized that things she could do were already done by Fu Wang, and the leftover things she didn’t know how to do could only be done by Fu Wang.

So really, what on earth was “Real All-Rounder Housewife” Fu Wang so uneasy about!

“Xiao Shu! I baked fresh snow fish pies! Come have a quick taste!” He Su’er entered the gate while holding a tray. Her voice could be heard before she even entered.

The steaming snow fish pies smelled wonderful, but once Shu Yu took a bite she couldn’t help choking and spitting it out, then she squatted to the side and kept dry heaving. This shocked He Su’er, who threw away her pies and hurriedly supported her and stammered, “What’s wrong, Xiao Shu? Are you alright?”

“I’m okay.” Shu Yu accepted the water that was passed over to her and rinsed her mouth. She looked a little apologetic. “I’m fine. Just now, I don’t know why but I suddenly had to throw up, and I even wasted a meat pie; it looked quite delicious, what a pity.”

“Who cares about the pie. Xiao Shu, you aren’t pregnant, are you?!” He Su’er suddenly thought of something, as her concerned expression turned into delight and she held Shu Yu’s arms to ask, “Have you been feeling tired lately? Not wanting to move much? And even feeling uneasy and sorrowful out of nowhere? Not having much of an appetite and not being able to eat some foods?”

“Except for the last part, everything else seems to fit.” After Shu Yu finished, she herself sucked in a cold intake of air. Could it really be… But she remembered Fu Wang saying that he couldn’t have children, so she definitely couldn’t be pregnant either! But these symptoms seemed more and more likely to be pregnancy, didn’t it?

In novels, normally when the Female Protagonist vomited, it was clearly a sign of pregnancy!

He Su’er regarded Shu Yu’s dumbfounded expression and smiled happily, as if she was the one having a child, and said happily, “Why are you just standing there you silly, quickly go back home and lie down. And your family’s Da Yu? I’ll go call for him so he can come back and take care of you.”

Shu Yu’s expression was still screaming ‘Where am I? Who am I? What do I do?’, as she dazedly said, “He’s by the big acacia tree in the northern street.”

He Su’er went hunting for him in a flurry of wind and fire. When she arrived at the northern street, with a glance she saw Xiao Shu’s feeble and refined Da Yu, who was sitting and wrapping medicine for someone and surrounded by a circle of demonkin. From afar, she hollered at him, “Da Yu, your Xiao Shu is pregnant, go home quickly!”

Fu Wang was in the middle of diagnosing someone’s illness as he effortlessly controlled the conversation and pried for information and his mind was flickering rapidly, when he suddenly heard a familiar voice yelling at him and even exclaiming that Shu Yu was pregnant.

Even someone like Fu Wang would become dumbfounded at this moment.

The medicinal pouch in his hand dropped on the ground with a pop, scattering the medicine inside all over the ground.

“What are you waiting for, hurry up and go back!” He Su’er thought to herself, No wonder they are husband and wife, their reactions to the news were exactly the same, both became so stupefied.

People around with faster reactions were already chattering their congratulations. Fu Wang was stunned for a moment before he came back to his senses, he gave a kind smile to the circle of demonkin, then he hefted his medicine box and followed He Su’er back home hurriedly.

.

.

.

He Su’er stood in the doorway and poked her head inside. After a while she finally saw Fu Wang coming out and asked, “Did she– is Xiao Shu pregnant?”

Fu Wang, however, shook his head. “She just came here for a few days and isn’t yet used to the local area, so she got a stomachache from eating.”

“Eh! How could it be!” He Su’er’s face was full of disappointment and some awkwardness. “Haha, I didn’t make sure of it and hyped you two for nothing, I’m really sorry.”

Fu Wang handled her with some more sentences and then sent her away.

He returned inside and started brewing medicine. His slightly lowered head made it impossible for anyone to see his expression.

Shu Yu was not pregnant, it was impossible for her to get pregnant, but of course it wasn’t something small like not being acclimated to the local foods, her body was in much worse condition than he had thought. If it wasn’t for this situation suddenly happening today, Fu Wang wouldn’t have known that Shu Yu’s body had already become so damaged from his devil qi.

Any demonkin who got together with a Devil would more or less become affected by devil qi. He had become a Devil not long ago after all, and Devils have not appeared for a long time, thus information related to them couldn’t be found and he could only rely on trial and error to figure things out, but this way some slips were more or less inevitable. Some time ago, he had vaguely realized that being intimate with Shu Yu was harmful to her body, so he started controlling himself; he didn’t let her notice and went on to seek a solution for this.

He thought that she was still fine, but today after carefully examining her, he realized that the devil qi inside Shu Yu was buried very deep. If he had not discovered this today, the consequences were unimaginable. She had the bloodline of the Gods, Gods and Devils were like water and fire, completely incompatible with each other. Fu Wang didn’t expect for his devil qi to become such a hidden hazard to Shu Yu’s body.

Fortunately, it hadn’t yet erupted, otherwise…

There was slight noise behind him. It was Shu Yu, who walked out of their bedroom.

She was covered in a long robe as she walked over and sat down next to Fu Wang. She leaned against his arm, and then whispered, “Actually, when He Su’er said that, in addition to being surprised, I was also a bit happy, too.”

Fu Wang’s body stiffened with a jerk. He slowly turned to look at Shu Yu, who was propping her cheeks, and then said in a stilted voice, “I am sorry, Xiao-Yu.”

“This isn’t your fault, what’s there to say sorry for.” Shu Yu assumed that his illness of placing all the blame on himself was acting up.

“It is my fault.” Fu Wang reached out and brought Shu Yu into his arms. He said softly, “But even if it is, I still will not let go.”

Shu Yu felt like she could combust to death.

He was such a fragile, overthinking, and sensitive little thing. How could he ever turn into that ghastly yandere BOSS in the original plot? Completely incomprehensible.
