Any kind of Boss · Devil · Fu Wang that bared its fangs and claws and tried to scare her was, in fact, a mere paper tiger1 纸老虎 Paper Tiger. The term refers to something or someone that claims or appears to be powerful, intimidating, or threatening but actually folds easily like wet paper. —- Shu Yu has finally come to this realization.
When she came out of her depressive episode, Shu Yu instantly reached enlightenment and realized that the Blackened Fu Wang, well, he cared about her too much. It was more than words could describe. However much he liked to pretend, in the end hadn’t he still been found out by her?
Well, Shu Yu was very happy.
She didn’t want to think about whether he still loved her or not, and she didn’t want to ponder on whether devils could love or not either. Fu Wang was willing to listen to her and restrain himself. Fu Wang was willing to turn into the half-demon form he didn’t even like, just like in the past. If this was not love, then what was love?
Fu Wang had done everything she asked for, he had given her all the feelings he was capable of, and that was enough.
What’s more, he even said he would bring her back to her home in the twenty-first century. Regardless if it was true or not, the fact that he willingly said it was something Shu Yu hadn’t even thought he would do at all. In the past, she had already known that Fu Wang cared about this subject a lot, so what else could she say about it now?
Sometimes, Shu Yu felt that Fu Wang had a clear grasp on what her feelings and thoughts were; he would do or say the correct thing just right every time, making her unable to even try and muster thoughts of escaping or even becoming bored. Even though she knew what he had done, knew that he had changed, the same heartache born in her heart was the same as the love she still held for him.
If what he said and did was out of his sincere feelings then of course, that would’ve been great, but if those were being presented before her after meticulous calculations, then he was truly terrifying, there was no one that could escape such an intricately-woven web. But thinking too much about it was useless. If he was that willing to make that much of an effort to coax and lie to her, then wasn’t that just another way of showing that he cared for her?
But…
Fu Wang really cared about her.
Shu Yu, who was walking on a huge street within the demon realm, looked at the large space left around her and the crowd squishing each other in other places. She observed their covert, sneaky glances and felt slightly awkward.
Many places over the street had portraits of her plastered on them, they were even painted extremely detailed and similar to her. It was clearly written that she was a person extremely valued by the Devil Lord, even the slightest scratch on her would enrage the Devil Lord—— what the hell was with this kind of description! Was it really okay to be so direct? Shu Yu felt like her embarrassment illness was going to act up.
Not to mention the gazes these people cast on her. These were demonkin that merely wanted to live out their lives, they didn’t hold any malice, it was more curiosity that they held as well as slight fear in their gaze, but this kind of gaze that said “Look at this crazy guy, she can actually stay by the Devil Lord’s side” was the thing that made someone feel awkward. It simply made her want to turn on her heel and head back to the Demonic Palace.
So again, why exactly had she said she wanted to go out shopping and sightseeing? Just look at it, there wasn’t really any difference between the current demon realm and Mengze from the past!
With everything said and done, it was Fu Wang’s fault for dragging her to bed all day long, if it wasn’t for the sake of preventing a normal conversation from descending into rolling around together, would she even have to resort to running to the crowded streets to find a meager peace?
And such an opportunity was also extremely rare!
Shu Yu looked at the small, white fox she was carrying, her heart was so itchy she couldn’t help but rub his ears. The little fox raised his head and glanced at her, and then he switched into a different position while laying in her arms. The way his paw pads pressed against her palms was ticklish. His tail swished lazily and then curled over her wrist as his eyes squinted comfortably into slits.
She had merely wanted to see how far Fu Wang was willing to go for her, so she had tried to ask something like “Turn into a fox and go shopping with me, because I want to hold you”, and as a result, Fu Wang really turned into a little fox and jumped into her arms.
Shu Yu had frozen for a moment, then she joyfully cuddled the warm, fluffy fox and went outside.
Then, they became the center of attention in the crowd. It’s not that they were surrounding her, it was more like those who walked by her subconsciously stole glances at her, and there was a vacuum of space around her. It was kind of stressful.
There was a portion of the gazes trained on the fox in Shu Yu’s arms.
No one could recognize this adorable, precious, cute little fox as the bold, rampant, berserker Devil Lord. In the eyes of all demonkin, the image of the Devil Lord was that of a violent, horrible, bloodthirsty madman. Their image of him was twisted as deep as their terror went. Such as some of them thinking he was three meters tall and with bull-like crimson eyes or a that he had a body that was like a mountain of iron scraps. It was impossible for them to link his image with this kind of harmless, adorable pet.
The crowd of demons merely felt that Shu Yu was indeed the Devil Lord’s favored person, after all, she even dared to openly carry a fox around.
One must know that ever since the disaster that occurred one thousand years ago, the Fox Clan had been wiped out of existence, the former Fox Clan’s territory still remained lifeless and barren to this day. Don’t even mention foxes, even some clans which had closer racial relations with them had also gone almost extinct. It’s been too many years since demons have seen any sign of a fox. The odds of seeing a fox was the same as the odds of seeing the Devil Lord, alright?
Shu Yu was oblivious to this. In front of their gazes, she hesitated slightly, but she still decided to head back. Next time they went out they would prepare some disguises beforehand. She didn’t expect that her portraits would be plastered all over the street, it caused everyone to know her face when going out.
But in the end, she didn’t even take two steps before hearing a loud noise coming down the streets. A group of bare-chested male demons arrived riding some demonic beasts. Dust kicked up in their path, frightening a wave of demonkin into retreating. The group of demons were also shouting, “The Great Rhinoceros of the southern demon clans is coming through, make way!”
They arrived in front of Shu Yu in a blink. Before Shu Yu could move away, the thick hooves of the three-meter tall demonic beast were about to fall on her, but suddenly the strange-looking demonic beast let out a shrill cry and abruptly skidded to a stop. Certain male demon riding on the demonic beast was unprepared, so he was thrown off the demonic beast and face planted on the ground, and he just happened to fall near Shu Yu’s feet.
With a large number of people having distanced themselves and giving Shu Yu a wide berth, she truthfully stood out too much. The man who had fallen off the demonic beast felt like he had lost face, his rough features were turning bright red from anger as he roared, “Who dares to stop me, the Great Rhinoceros!”
Shu Yu, the innocent onlooking crowd member: “… I didn’t stop you.” She didn’t do anything.
“Then why did this Great One’s mount suddenly go berserk! You’ve dared make this Great One lose face today, so leave your tiny life here!’ The rhinoceros guy had already started swinging his palm towards Shu Yu before he finished speaking.
After the merging of the demon realm with the human realm, it had become even larger than Mengze in the past. The land was vast, and demons were sparse. This rhinoceros guy lived far away. When he learnt of the return of the Devil Lord, he hurriedly gathered nice stuff and came to present them as gifts to show his allegiance.
Although he had known that the Devil Lord had issued word of a beloved pet that you could not – under any circumstance – mess with, Shu Yu’s portraits hadn’t spread that far yet, so this rhinoceros guy didn’t recognize her, otherwise he wouldn’t be shouting to kill them in this moment.
Shu Yu brought her Rainbow Carp with her. That’s why now, one of her hands squished the impatient paw pads of the little kit in her arms, and her other hand drew her sword out of its sheath and met with the pair of meaty palms of the rhinoceros demon. It stabbed right through the palms of the rhinoceros demon, who were known for having tough skins that sharp objects couldn’t pierce.
Shu Yu extracted her blade, splattering blood all over.
Very good, her skills hadn’t gotten rusty, the harsh practice with swordsmanship hadn’t gone to waste. The body that Fu Wang had created for her was simply amazing, she could feel that it was even more powerful than the body of Tianfeng Jinyu in the beginning!
After practicing swordplay for so long, she had finally found the chance to show it off. Moreover, now that she had become so strong, it would be a waste to not use her skills.
Shu Yu looked expressionless as she sheathed her blade, but she was slightly satisfied. The fox one-handedly being carried by her glanced at her again.
The rhinoceros guy was being supported by two underlings as he clutched his chest, grunting and panting heavily. Shu Yu had a good grasp on her control, that stab certainly wouldn’t kill him, he merely received a slight injury and wouldn’t be able to use his spirit energy for the time being.
“Remember from now on, don’t carelessly ride a demonic beast on the streets.” Saying this, Shu Yu made to leave while hugging her fox, but the rhinoceros man stopped her again.
“This Great One came to pay tribute to the Devil Lord. Having injured this Great One, you dare to just walk away like this? Aren’t you afraid of the Devil Lord raining punishment upon you!”
A tribute to Fu Wang? However when she heard the latter sentences, Shu Yu was stunned. This guy, he was too amazing at triggering flags, where did his face come from?2 哪里来的脸 Where did his face come from? Basically he’s too shameless. She looked at the “Fox” Fu Wang in her embrace, who had narrowed eyes, then she looked at the surrounding onlookers who had complicated expressions like her.
Confronted with such an ignorant, unfortunate person, she found herself at a loss of words. After a long pause, with a complicated expression, Shu Yu finally squeezed out two words, “I’m not.”
“You are publicly challenging the Devil Lord!” The rhinoceros guy’s eyes gleamed as he put the hat over her head3给她扣帽子put a hat over her. It’s the same as putting words in her mouth. and roared loudly, “To show such disrespect to the Devil Lord, you must harbor ill intentions! Also openly bringing a fox, it must be a remnant of the Fox Clan. Everyone, go forward and capture this traitorous demonkin for the Devil Lord!”
Just as he bellowed, another group quickly arrived here. Shu Yu recognized the person leading them, it was one of Fu Wang’s lackeys. First he glanced at the loudly yelling rhinoceros man, he waved his hand and had his subordinates restrain him and the row of followers behind him as well. Then, he came to Shu Yu and gave her a bow. “Lady Shu, have you been injured in any place?”
“No.”
The rhinoceros demon originally still shouting saw this and suddenly had a flash of realization and remembered a certain rumor. The Devil Lord had a woman he adored extremely. Her name was unknown, the only known information was that her surname Shu, that she adored wearing red clothes, and that she was inseparable from the Devil Lord.
Could it be, could it be that it was this person?!
Thinking this, the rhinoceros guy immediately felt incomparable terror. He had been marginalized by the other demon clans in the south and couldn’t live well, that’s why he ran so far to join the Devil Lord. Now, it was all over, even his own life wouldn’t be safe now!
No matter how much he regretted it or how afraid he was, Shu Yu didn’t know anything about that. This big brother that was standing in front of her, although he said Lady Shu with his mouth, it was clear he looked down on her, and his tone of voice was also rigid. “If Lady Shu has nothing of importance, it’s better if she does not casually go out, otherwise if anything happens and the Devil Lord seeks to place blame, even if Lady Shu is the beloved pet of the Devil Lord, she will also face consequences. That’s why, please return, Lady Shu.”
Shu Yu, who had been ready to go back, didn’t want to go back anymore. These people looked at her unkindly, and she looked at them even more unkindly, they were all just a bunch of violent brutes that murdered without measure.
Shu Yu raised the fox in her hands, her nose against his nose, and asked, “I am your pet?”
The fox’s ears twitched. His mouth seemed to be smiling. “You are not. If Xiao-Yu is unhappy, then I can kill him for you.”
The big brother was stunned when he heard the familiar voice of the Devil Lord come out of the fox’s mouth. Hearing this voice and then seeing the crimson color of those eyes, cold sweat drenched his back in a split second. He didn’t look rough or harsh anymore, shivering as he stuttered for forgiveness, “D-Devil Lord, have mercy, this subordinate knows his mistakes!”
The whole scene was dead silent. Then, short screams rose all around them. The crowd started running away, scattering everywhere, and three minutes later, only Shu Yu, the fox in her arms, and the big brother who almost couldn’t stand still and was still drenched in cold sweat were left.
The dumbfounded Shu Yu: Fu Wang’s name was no longer merely something meant to stop children from crying at night. Look at their terrified faces. What kind of horrible things did Fu Wang actually do back in the years?
“If you had known from the start that me coming out would cause these things, you should’ve warned me.”
“Why care about what others think?” Fu Wang curled in her embrace and licked her thumb.
Shu Yu was in a good mood again. She raised the little fox and smooched him, receiving a mouthful of fur in return.
The big brother standing to the side had already been scared to the point his teeth were showing and chattering, his expression was full of disbelief. The Devil Lord, that terrifying Devil Lord, had turned into a fox , and was obediently being held by someone?! Was he dreaming or had he already died?
Shu Yu ignored him. She simply walked around the empty streets while carrying Fox-Fu-Wang. Just in time, everyone had been frightened off, so she could prance around as she wished.
After that day, there emerged another new legend within the demon realm—— The Devil Lord’s woman was a demoness who killed without blinking. She killed one person for each step she took, drenching her white robes into a crimson red.
Shu Yu didn’t know how such a rumor started, but she didn’t care either. At least Fu Wang’s lackeys’ gazes on her had turned serious now.
But they didn’t dawdle long in the demon realm, not long after, Shu Yu left towards the human realm with Fu Wang again, because Fu Wang still had matters left unfinished.
