TGBOG Chapter 9

Writer's Block

[Discussion] I really can’t understand these authors’ thought processes. What are they thinking?!

0L: I’m following a cultivation novel where the protagonist (gong) loses his memory and forgets that he and the love interest (shou) were once a couple. Every time he meets the shou, he recalls parts of their past. Suspecting something is off, the gong decides to verify the memories. Here’s the backstory:

One memory involves the shou tending to a severely injured gong in the woods and roasting a rabbit, then sleeping in each other’s arms. To recreate this scene, the gong takes the shou to a forest where they roast a chicken. So far, so normal. But then, they start arguing about the best way to roast the chicken!

WTF, I’m here for the romance, not to watch a cooking competition!

Even more ridiculous, the gong confirms the memory’s authenticity because in the memory, he vomited after eating the shou’s roasted rabbit, and now he vomits after eating the shou’s roasted chicken too. It’s the same person’s cooking, so it must be real!

Me: ??????

And the author had the nerve to label today’s update as “sweet.” Is this sweet? Huh?! This is poison!

1L: Hahahahaha, OP, please decode it for me. I need to read this.

2L: …I don’t get the gong’s logic.

3L: Are elementary schoolers writing novels now? Skipping this one.

4L: Is this a comedy? And why are they roasting rabbits in a cultivation world? Shouldn’t they be eating immortal elixirs and drinking celestial nectar?

5L: 23333333 I know which novel this is. It wasn’t that bad when I read it, but OP’s description is hilarious. By the way, the gong had his spiritual roots destroyed, so it was a rough time.

6L: Hahahahaha, OP’s description is so funny. I’m tempted to read it now.

7L: “Guide to Conquering the Villain.” You’re welcome.

8L: Let me explain. Strictly speaking, the gong’s memories perfectly align while eating the roasted food, so he confirms it. In the end, the gong teases the shou, telling him not to let anyone else eat his cooking. The shou responds, “No one else has eaten it except you,” which is kinda sweet.

9L: So the real question is, how do you properly roast a chicken?

10L: Reply to 9L: Hahahahaha, hopefully, the author will tell us in future chapters.

11L: This seems fun. Is the novel good?

12L: Reply to 11L: Not to overpraise or bash it, but it’s decent. The writing style is a bit erratic, the plotline is very engaging, and the romance is slightly weak. However, the interactions between the gong and shou are compelling. There’s also a disposable character, so read if you don’t mind that.

13L: Reply to 11L: Go read it. I love the shou’s master, Lan Zhen. The author wrote a 10,000-word side story for him. Completely satisfying.

Tian Gai: [Screenshot]

Tian Gai: We’re getting roasted again. Is it really that funny? sad.jpg

Qin Hai: You almost ruined Shen An’s badass image.

Zhao Zhao: Hahaha, it’s fine. Since you wrote it, it doesn’t feel out of place.

Zhao Zhao: Besides, Foxy saved the day, didn’t he?

The latest chapter by Sleepy Fox gave Shen An and Duan Ruxing some sweet moments, making the readers swoon. Comments skyrocketed, and when Tian Gai logged in this morning, he was overwhelmed with readers’ love notes:

Bunny: So sweet and romantic. Keep it up, author!

CVS: Ahhhhhhh, Shen’s hand cramps but doesn’t move! So sweet!

Reading for Fun: So sweet.

Qingwu: Duan’s blushing ears are so cute!

O(∩_∩)O: Love it. I adore you, author! Muah!

Some girls even sent kisses, making Tian Gai insanely jealous.

Tian Gai: I really don’t get it. They just stood under a tree with their hands close together, and that’s sweet?

Tian Gai: BL readers are too hard to understand!

Zhao Zhao: Girls probably like the subtle hints, more room for imagination. Like Master Twelve’s chapter where they communicated through knocking on a door. That was also very popular.

Tian Gai: When it’s my turn, I’ll make them interact sweetly like crazy. I’ve found the feeling now. I refuse to believe otherwise!

While Tian Gai was fired up, Zhao Yijia was struggling. He had to update today, but he was stuck.

Writer’s block is like running out of gas on the highway—painful. And since this novel had no outline and was freeform, despite being a fun project, everyone took it seriously. Zhao Yijia didn’t want to just write filler.

He decided to clean the house to find some inspiration. Switching from mental to physical labor was relaxing. Walking and doing chores were common practices for Zhao Yijia when he was stuck. His activity soon caught Ye Luan’s attention, who was working in another room.

Ye Luan stood at the doorway, curious, “Didn’t you just clean yesterday?”

Zhao Yijia stopped and sighed, “I’m stuck. Doing something else to clear my mind.”

“Is it for that villain story?”

“Yeah.”

Ye Luan shook his head disapprovingly, “That story was meant to be fun. Don’t overthink it and stress yourself out.” He took the cloth from Zhao Yijia, saying, “Let’s brainstorm together.”

The current plotline of “Guide to Conquering the Villain” had Shen An becoming suspicious of everything, wary of the disposable character, and particularly attentive to Duan Ruxing. Their relationship was entering a vague stage.

Zhao Yijia was frustrated, “Foxy probably wants Shen An and Duan Ruxing to tackle a quest together, but I haven’t figured out how to write it.” A thrilling adventure in just one chapter seemed impossible, but writing a longer one all at once felt overwhelming.

Ye Luan asked, “Do you want them to go on an adventure together?”

Zhao Yijia nodded, “Yes.”

“Judging by the story’s pace, it needs a small climax—facing challenges together, uncovering some truths, and developing their relationship.”

“I have a somewhat novel idea, but it’s a bit messy.”

“Write it down first; we can refine it later.”

“But I’m worried I won’t tell it well—”

Ye Luan interrupted, “You will. The Zhao Yijia I know is the best storyteller in the world.”

His confidence left Zhao Yijia stunned, his cheeks heating up.

After a while, Zhao Yijia scratched his head, “The quest outline isn’t complete, and one chapter might not be enough.”

“Write what you can, and I’ll take over from there.”

“Really?”

“Trust me.”

Zhao Yijia suddenly felt incredibly relieved, brimming with inspiration. He organized his thoughts and looked at Ye Luan, his smile shy but charming, “Master Twelve, what should I do? Your praise makes me so happy!”

Ye Luan’s gaze softened, “Then let me give you another idea for the story.”

He gently pulled Zhao Yijia closer, and in his wide, startled eyes, Ye Luan hugged him tightly. The scent of Ye Luan—mint mixed with a faint fragrance—overwhelmed Zhao Yijia.

“Have Duan Ruxing ask Shen An what he’s doing.”

“…What… are you… doing?”

Ye Luan chuckled softly, closed his eyes briefly, and then opened them again:

“This is me, finding you.”
