Ivan woke up dumbfounded. First of all, he recovered 50% of his powers. When he exhausted his powers, in his opinion, it would take at least half a month for him to completely recover.
However, after waking up, not only did the injury on his chest not hurt as much, but even so, much of his powers recovered.
What was this?
In his mind appeared the strange books he read when he was in school before the apocalypse. For the male protagonist not to die, he must have a chance encounter. Did he have such an encounter in his sleep?
Subconsciously, Ivan raised his hand, and a ball of wind formed in the palm of his hand.
Then he sat up, and with a clang, something rolled off him and off the bed. Following the sound, Ivan’s eyes widened at what he saw.
Good heavens! Wind-type crystals!
Not one, but several! These crystals were all Level 2 crystals, equivalent to C-class power users.
Ivan quickly tore off his blanket and scrambled out of bed to pick up the crystals. His attention was caught by the metal box on the bedside table, and his body turned to stone.
What was he seeing?
A box of crystals, of all types! Almost all of them were Level 2.
Ivan picked up the metal box with trembling hands, rummaged around in one corner of the box, and uncovered three slightly larger ones, which were…Level 3 crystals.
Ivan’s breathing quickened.
There were not only hundreds of Level 2 crystals in the metal box but there were also three Level 3 crystals. What daringness was this?
Even if Ivan had pretty much-seen everything, he still turned weak-legged from this large amount of “wealth.”
He had survived for five years in the apocalypse. Most of the time he only got Level 1 crystals. The average zombie died without leaving a crystal, the lowest of which was a level 1 zombie.
Level 2 crystals weren’t as common. Zombies who evolved to Level 2 could summon zombies of a lower level, so when C-class power users encountered Level 2 zombies, the odds were particularly great.
For Ivan, as long as he didn’t encounter a large group of Level 2 zombies, he wouldn’t be in any danger. If he encountered a Level 3 zombie, the only option left to him was to run.
He and Miles fought for their lives to kill the injured Level 3 zombie and got a Level 3 crystal, which should have been a happy occasion, but it only led to Miles’ betrayal.
Now, seeing the three Level 3 crystals in the metal box, in his dazed stupor, Ivan felt the hint of irony.
Seeing how the metal box was painted a fluffy pink with cartoon patterns printed on it, he sucked in a breath as he realized the origins of this box of crystals.
Ivan’s heart was pounding. What would happen if he just left with this box of crystals?
Ivan couldn’t help but smile bitterly—what a tempting and avaricious wealth!
Especially for him who was now penniless—all his belongings were in the car; Miles had taken it all.
Especially for him now penniless – all his belongings are in the car, and Miles is all gone.
Ivan took a deep breath, put the cyan crystal in his hand back into the box, his gaze sweeping over the tempting Level 3 crystals, and then closed the metal lid.
He now understood why he had recovered over half of his strength after his sleep and even recovered 50% of his powers
Because he absorbed a large amount of Level 2 crystals, and it was the same elemental type as him.
Ivan’s chest vibrated and the hand holding the metal box trembled slightly.
After five years of the apocalypse, he was accustomed to the selfishness, hypocrisy, and indifference of human nature. It turned out…the world wasn’t as cold as he thought
Or perhaps…this was the purest form of kindness from a child.
Bang!
The noise outside jerked Ivan out of his thoughts. He quickly put down the metal box, opened the door and walked out. In the dim living room, a small figure squatted on the floor as her tiny hands reached out to pick up the broken shards of glass on the ground. Ivan’s eyelids jumped—what if the sharp glass cut her hand?
“Bambi.” Ivan unconsciously smiled and softened his voice.
Bambi jerked her head up in surprise, exclaiming, “Mister Ivan, you’re awake!”
Ivan walked over. Bambi twisted her little fingers, a little embarrassed to say, “I wanted to pour you a glass of water, but I broke the mug.”
Every once in a while, she would feed Ivan water with the cotton swab method. When she saw there wasn’t much water left in the mug, she took the mug to the living room to refill it, and accidentally dropped the mug on the floor.
Bambi was a little upset, but there were many cups at home, so she was just a little upset.
“It’s good the water didn’t get knocked over.” Bambi pointed to the remaining half-full bottle of water, and said like a little adult, “Cups can be broken but water cannot be wasted.”
After that, she continued to pick up the debris. If things were broken, they must be cleaned up promptly; otherwise, it was easy to prick yourself—the bottoms of Bambi’s feet knew it all too well.
“Let me do it.” Ivan pulled Bambi aside, and Bambi, who was also smart, ran to the bathroom and dragged the broom over.
Seeing how Bambi looked so familiar with doing these things, Ivan paused and asked, “How long have you been living alone?”
Bambi dragged over the broom that was much taller than her, thought about the question, and shook her head. “I don’t know.”
A flash of distress flashed through Ivan’s eyes, and without saying more on the subject, he took the broom from Bambi and cleaned up the mess as quickly as he could. Bambi stood next to him, hugging her teddy tightly, feeling a little happy—Mr. Ivan cleaned up much faster than her.
“Mr. Ivan, I soaked your clothes, but I can’t wash them,” Bambi said a little weakly. She subtly meant “Mister, hurry up and wash your clothes, so you can dry them and change out of Grandpa’s clothes.”
Ivan took a look at the bathroom basin and smiled. After spending several years in the apocalypse, most of the time once his clothes were dirty or ripped, he would go to a clothing store to find a new set to wear.
Food was hard to find, but clothes were easy to find.
Seeing his clothes soaked in the basin, a strange feeling of warmth welled up in his heart. Ivan instinctively wanted to raise his hand to pat little Bambi’s head, but he felt resistance, and then his hand was bounced back.
Ivan:”? “
He gave his hand a strange look, and after a moment, he met Bambi’s beautiful and clear doe eyes, thinking that it might have been Bambi using her powers unconsciously to protect her.
“Okay, I’ll wash it later. Thank you, Bambi.”
“You’re welcome,” Bambi said softly and then plucked up courage. “Mr. Ivan, can you help me cook some noodles?”
Bambi turned around and picked up the bag of instant noodles, large eyes gazing expectantly at Ivan. This was the first time she had asked a strange mister to help her, but she thought since Mr. Ivan asked her to help him, it was okay to ask Mr. Ivan to help her.
“Grandpa’s noodles are delicious, but I can’t reach the stove and cook them.”
Ivan asked, “How do you usually eat?”
Bambi pointed to the instant noodles and then to the water.
Ivan’s heart ached so badly; it was hard to imagine a girl of only a few years old living all alone.
He guessed that Bambi and her grandpa only had each other, but then something happened to her grandpa.
Moreover, from the various metal protection around the home, he concluded that Bambi’s grandpa was a metal-type power user—and a very strong; that box of crystals was the best proof.
Hence, they were able to settle here.
That’s why it’s possible to place here.
Although little Bambi possessed the most mysterious of powers, she was too young to control it and she had no way of asking for help and could only live alone.
Ivan took the bag of instant noodles and headed to the kitchen, only to see that there was a complete set of kitchenware. He imagined a scene of an old man busy in the kitchen and little Bambi bouncing around in his mind.
When he opened the kitchen cabinet, he was pleasantly surprised to find that there was rice inside.
And now, even Ivan was craving food. There was rice and a gas tank, which meant a normal hot meal. He hadn’t had a hot meal for such a long time, and he missed it very much.
Swallowing the saliva in his throat, he turned around to ask Bambi, “Bambi, do you want to eat rice?”
Bambi’s eyes lit up and she nodded vigorously. She only got to eat rice when Grandpa was still there; she couldn’t make it herself.
It’s been a long time since Bambi had eaten rice and she had nearly forgotten the taste of rice.
Then she thought of something pulled on the hem of Ivan’s clothes. Her large grape-like eyes seemed to be glowing as her hands gestured excitedly in the air, “I went to the supermarket yesterday. There were a lot of things still in it. They even had picked mustard!”
Pickled mustard with rice, was the perfect combination.
The reason why Bambi didn’t take the picked mustard yesterday was because the picked mustard was too salty. She would only be thirsty and drink more water after eating, and water was more precious than food. Bambi only had two small arms and legs; she couldn’t grab a lot of water she went out to stock up for water.
Dragging back the ten bottles of water yesterday was already the limit of Bambi’s physical strength.
Ivan never expected that there would be an unsearched supermarket nearby, and glanced at the watch on his wrist.
At four o’clock in the afternoon, the rain outside had stopped and the sun was out. Then feeling out the condition of his powers, there was no problem in going to the supermarket to find the picked mustard.
Turning his gaze, Ivan noticed the big apple on the table, but he didn’t question it. He just thought that the big apple was also brought back by Bambi from the supermarket, which showed there were still a lot of good things left there.
At the very least, he should go and improve little Bambi’s meals.
“Okay, let’s go to the supermarket!”
Bambi was nearly jumping with joy as she excitedly emptied her pockets.
Ivan was looking for a weapon. Remembering that his gun had fallen off him on the ground, he went to the balcony to look down, only to see the body of the zombies he had killed, but his gun was missing.
Ivan’s heart froze.
There could be two reasons why the gun was missing: it was picked up by a zombie or picked up by someone else.
Either way, his injuries haven’t healed completely, and he probably shouldn’t risk it at this time.
But seeing that Bambi had joyously moved the chair that was against the door and the water hanging from the doorknob and thinking how she hadn’t eaten hot food in so long, Ivan really couldn’t bear to dampen her mood.
After thinking about it, Ivan said, “Bambi, will you wait at home for me? I’ll go get it.”
“But you don’t know where it is,” Bambi said.
Ivan forgot of this little tidbit. He looked at the little girl for a few seconds, and in the end, he could only take Bambi out with him, making up his mind to protect her at all costs.
As soon as he walked out the door, Ivan was startled by the sealed metal wall upstairs, and then his face changed drastically. He picked up Bambi, sharply retreated inside, and shut the door.
His breathing was hard as cold sweat soaked his back. He didn’t even care that he pulled the wound on his chest.
There was a high-level zombie upstairs, and the aura of power was too high at least a Level 3, and maybe even Level 4!
Bambi: “?”
“Mr. Ivan, what’s wrong?” She was startled by the suddenness of Ivan’s actions.
Ivan swallowed the tightness in his throat and peered down at the little girl. “Bambi, have you been living here all this time with your grandpa?”
Bambi nodded.
“You know upstairs…” That kind of feeling of balancing on the thin line between life and death from being shrouded by a high-level zombie’s overbearing aura made Ivan’s scalp tingle. How did little Bambi and her grandpa live under the powerful aura of the high-level zombie?
Before he could finish his words, Bambi lowered her head sadly, and the waterworks started again. Bambi raised her little hand to wipe it away silently and whispered, “That’s Grandpa.”
Ivan:”…”
Ivan:”? “
Ivan:”! “
On Julius’s side, seeing Ivan pick up his baby girl, Julius’ face immediately darkened. He kept pulling at Ivan’s hand until his baby girl was free from Ivan’s clutches.
For the sake of this kid cooking for his baby girl, he’ll forgive him this time.
But when Ivan made his baby girl cry, Julius blew his top. When he saw how this kid was scared out of his wits by Hugh who was upstairs, Julius felt extremely pleased.
“If you dare have any crooked thoughts towards my baby girl, I will let out Hugh to bite you to death!”
