Chapter 24
Bambi was shocked. Why would a lady be calling her name?
Bambi naturally ran to the window to see who the person who called her name was and why the other lady knew her name.
But Bambi’s feet wouldn’t budge.
The little girl tried to charge forward. There was clearly nothing in front of her, but it felt like she was met by a transparent wall that she couldn’t pass through.
The little girl was puzzled and bumped her little head forward.
Then she seemed to understand something. She sounded happy as she whispered probingly, “Mister, is that you?”
Jellal, who blocked the little girl with his body, did not respond to her. He was carefully reading the instructions given by the System.
The basic laser gun was too heavy for Bambi, so even if he bought it, she couldn’t use it. He could try to force weapons from the real world into the game for Bambi, but Bambi would have to go face-to-face against all power users, of which the leader was a B-class power user.
Even if he was able to stuff the contraband over, did he really want Bambi to exchange fire with a group of power users with weapons?
The System prompted, [Ivan left earlier than expected after contracting the virus yesterday. He has now transformed into a Level 3 zombie. Do you want to summon him from nearby?]
[Attention! Ivan has become an uncontrollable high-level zombie.]
Faced with the option of whether to summon or not, Jellal chose to summon without hesitation while blocking the little one from running to the window.
“Bambi, I’m the girl from the supermarket the other day. I and the other mister are here to take you to the base…” The female voice sounded again. “Where are you? Come out. We’re going to take you back to the base, where there are a lot of kids like you.”
The words reached Bambi’s ears loud and clear, reminding her of the man and woman she met at the supermarket a few days earlier.
She remembered that the mister wanted to take her with him, but the lady didn’t want to, considering Bambi to be a burden. Bambi had heard the same tone many times, so it was easy for her to discern.
‘She didn’t want to take me then, so why is she willing to come back and take me several days later?’
Bambi cocked her little head to the side, seriously pondering on the strange behavior of the lady and mister.
Downstairs, outside the door of the apartment, the reinforced metal wall at the entrance of the apartment was too conspicuous and refused to open. It was locked from the inside. Janet couldn’t be certain that the little girl lived in this apartment, but the fact that there weren’t any zombies roaming around and it being locked made it suspicious.
So, Jane told Leo that Bambi might be living in this apartment, but before they broke in, they could use a simple test if the little girl was inside. A child wouldn’t know to be wary and would come out without a fight.
If she didn’t appear, it would not be too late to break in afterward.
Leo let Jane do her thing and did not forget to let his men scope around to look for the traces of the little girl.
Based on his judgment of Janet, this woman wouldn’t have lied to him. As long as the little girl was here, she would be found eventually.
As for Janet, she was like a panicked clown putting on a show for him. It was amusing.
Leo, sitting in the car, looked at Janet as if looking at a dead person.
So desperate to please him, praying that she would escape with her life, only for her hard work to be in vain…Just thinking about that picture made Leo’s body tremble with excitement and his eyes became more and more gloomy and sinister.
Janet lowered her megaphone and waited for a response.
However, half a minute passed, and there was nothing, but a lackey suddenly ran over from the other side. “Leo, I found something!”
The henchman was just the most ordinary power user, his face was pale, and he said, “A Level 3 undead beast that was scorched and split in two. I suspect it might have been killed yesterday.”
Leo’s face that trembled with excitement slowly froze, and his eyes rolled and stared at the lackey.
Janet also heard this, and her face instantly turned a little whiter.
A Level 3 undead beast was equivalent to a human B-class power user. To kill a Level 3 undead beast, the person must be at least a B-class power user. And Janet introduced that this is almost a dead city, where you couldn’t see a couple of zombies, much less an undead beast.
Leo got out of the car.
Janet’s cold sweat instantly wet the back of her clothes.
“Leo, when…when Jared and I passed by here, we didn’t encounter a single zombie, let alone the aura of a high-level undead beast…otherwise, how would we have left this place?”
Faced with Leo’s murderous appearance, Janet used her feminine wiles to appear as submissive as possible, while the gears in her brain turned wildly.
A Level 3 undead beast died nearby, indicating that at least one B-class power user killed it. If that little girl had been living nearby, there would be only two scenarios. One, she was eaten by the undead beast. Two, she was taken by the other power user.
The fact the food in the Central Supermarket was almost gone indicated that the power user who killed the undead beast had already left. As for whether the little girl was dead or had been taken away by the power user, in either case, it was apparent that the possibility of finding the little girl here was very small.
Of course, there was a third, very unlikely situation, that the girl not only did not die by the undead beast’s mouth, but also did not leave with the power user who killed the undead beast.
After analyzing the situation, Janet felt that if she didn’t come up with another plan, she would never be able to escape.
However, she had no opportunity to escape.
Leo’s men dragged the body of the undead ant beast over, telling them that no suspicious clues had been found other than this carcass.
Leo laughed twice, first glanced at the corpse of the undead beast on the ground twice, confirmed that it was indeed a Level 3 undead beast, and then he dropped his gaze to Janet, who was trembling and pale, and actually smiled at Janet.
Janet’s scalp went numb.
“You already knew that there was a Level 3 undead beast here. The food and the little girl were only your excuses. In reality, you were planning to kill me all along.” Leo approached Janet, the smile on his face getting bigger and bigger. “That’s a good idea. You’re really bold.”
“Roasting you won’t be enough. I’ve decided…”
Before he finished speaking, a roar that belonged to a zombie suddenly sounded from above the apartment. In addition, there was an aura that was unique to that of a high-level zombie that swept by like a violent wind.
Under this terrifying aura, Janet, who only awakened D-class powers, seemed to be weighed down by a mountain. Her knees bent, dropping onto the ground on her knees, and held her head as she sweated in pain.
Leo’s low-level lackeys had pretty much the same reaction as Janet.
Leo’s face became very ugly, his pupils contracted to the size of a needle tip, raised his head, and stared at the position above the third floor of the apartment. That’s where the roar and aura were coming from.
In an ordinary area, first was a Level 3 undead beast that had been killed and now a Level 4 zombie was hidden within the apartment.
Level 3 and Level 4 zombies corresponded to B-class power users. Power users and zombies at the same level didn’t have the same strength. A Level 4 zombie was equal to a B-class power user at his peak.
Leo had not yet reached the peak. That was to say, if he brashly went face to face with a Level 4 zombie, even if they outnumbered the zombie, Leo still didn’t dare take the risk.
……
“L…Leo, are…are we going to leave?” asked one of his lackeys in a shaky voice.
At this moment, there was a loud noise behind him. It turned out that an earth-type power user discovered there was a zombie in the distance that was running in this direction at a strange speed. The power user subconsciously activated his powers, throwing out a large wall of earth at the zombie.
“Shit! It’s a Level 3 zombie!”
The zombie was tall and imposing. As he ran, a ball of wind rolled up from the flat ground, gradually forming a small tornado. All the objects on both sides of the street were sucked into the tornado.
Meanwhile, the menacing roar of the zombie continued to be heard from the top of the apartment complex.
“God, two high-level zombies!” The horror behind the trembling voice couldn’t be suppressed.
They don’t dare to say here. If it was just one high-level zombie, it might have been fine. Leo even started to consider if they might instigate a fight. It wasn’t often that they encountered a Level 4 zombie. If they killed the zombie and got its crystal…
But now there was another Level 3 zombie coming up from behind. With enemies on both sides, they had no chance of winning.
While Leo’s subordinates did everything in their power to deal with the newly emerged zombie, Janet decided to make a gamble. Otherwise, if they made it out alive, Leo wouldn’t let her off.
So, Janet acted quickly. She gritted her teeth, threw away the horn in her hand, and prepared to use her powers to open the lock inside the metal wall. She wanted to hide in the apartment. There was a Level 4 zombie in the apartment, and a Level 3 zombie outside. As the saying goes, the most dangerous place was the safest.
However, how could Leo let the woman who duped him get away? When he got into the car, he also captured Janet.
The zombie got closer. The tornado following him swept towards the vehicle in a devastating state.
……
Bambi stretched out her little hand and touched the “thing” in front of her that was blocking her way. The various sounds coming from the window attracted the curiosity of the little girl so she couldn’t help but quietly move from the side to the window.
With a step of his long leg, Lord Jellal once again blocked the little one’s way.
Bambi was silent.
She was aggrieved.
