Ch. 12.2 Reluctant
The following day.
Haicheng, Dexin Hospital.
Today was the three-month anniversary of Haicheng’s Dexin Hospital, and it was also the day for them to receive the representatives of the largest local medical equipment company.
The hospital leaders waited at the entrance of the hospital early and greeted their important guests with a big smile.
“Welcome, welcome, welcome,” the Dean shook the hand of the person in-charge in front of him excitedly and said, “I humbly welcome you ladies and gentlemen!”
“We’ve long heard about the fame of Shimei Company, so when it was known that the headquarters wanted to choose a location in Haicheng, it was decided that we have to cooperate with the Shimei Company. Now, the time has finally come!”
The Dean brought people into the courtyard to visit, with a huge smile on his face.
“Shimei is now making a name for itself in the country, and it just so happens that so are we, Dexin Hospital. Although Dexin is a private hospital, we already have twelve branches across the country, and when we will work together, it’s definitely going to be a powerful combination!”
The head of the representatives from Shimei listened and nodded casually, smiling without saying a word.
As the group of people walked to the commemoration room, the Dean became even more excited, pointing to the wall right in the middle of the biggest award plate and said,
“Come, come, look, this is a commemoration of our cooperation with the Baoi 1This is a name, as I was not getting a correct English word for this, I kept it as it is. If any of might know a better word, do let me know in the comments, I’ll make the relevant changes. Public Welfare and Charity Foundation!”
Only then did the expression of the in-charge appeared to change a little, “Boai? That foundation in Ao Island?”
“That’s right, that’s right, it’s them.” The Dean was obviously very satisfied with the response and continued to speak eloquently.
“Boai has a program created specifically for patients who have organ transplants, funding their high medical expenses. This program is currently in talks with our Dexin, so regarding our hospital’s technology, you can completely rest assured, same going for our future development, it’s definitely quite long term!”
The Dean introduced their grandiose blueprint for a good amount of time, and while he was giving his generous speech, a person quietly came in through the back door.
Seeing that the Dean was still chatting, that person quietly pulled the sleeves of the Vice Dean present there.
The Vice Dean turned around and followed that person out to an empty room next to him.
“Vice Dean Qian, the child who had a physical examination yesterday is here.”
“Oh?” The Vice Dean’s eyes flashed with brilliance, “It’s the one surnamed Bai, right?”
“Right right.”
“Alright,” the Vice Dean waved his hand and said, “Instruct them to go and get ready, and when the person comes, just go and do the extraction.”
“Yes.” The man answered, “Still the same as yesterday?”
“No, get more today,” the Vice Dean thought for a moment and said, “Just fill the big bag.”
He raised his chin.
“Drain more, don’t be stingy, if the bag is filled, just go straight for another one, it’s not like it’s going to kill anyone.” 2I did not exactly get what the author wanted to express in the above two paragraphs. If anyone has read the raws and knows the actual meaning, please let me know in the comments, I’ll make the relevant changes.
“Yes!”
The man answered and was about to leave, when the Vice Dean suddenly had a change of thoughts and called the man back.
“Forget it, let them get ready, I’ll go do it myself.”
Because of the represetatives from the Shimei company, the crowd mostly gathered upstairs, causing the hospital’s first floor hall to looked a bit cold.
The place for blood extraction was not far from the lobby, so the Vice Dean arrived, the boy surnamed Bai had already arrived and was standing by the wall with his eyes downcast.
The Vice Dean lifted his eyes and surveyed the other party, secretly frowning in disgust.
He hated this kind of person with an unorthodox hairstyle, a run-of-the-mill 3Run of the mill is an adjective meaning “average” or “not outstanding in quality or rarity.” white boy, not a good thing at first glance.
The boy had waist-length hair, a few strands of which fell in front of his shoulders, smooth, long and cascading like water. Several female nurses who were originally busy preparing instruments, after seeing that boy they all involuntarily stopped their movements, openly as well as secretly sizing him up, quietly exchanging pleasantries and laughing, with reddened ears.
The Vice Dean realised it at a glance that one of the female nurses was the same one who had rejected his flowers twice, and immediately wrinkled his eyebrows even tighter and grunted heavily.
“Co-cough!”
Only then did the few people present collected their smiles and went about doing their business.
The Vice Dean raised his eyes and saw that the boy had heard the sound and looked over as well.
The boy himself was a bit gloomy, and when he looked at people, it made one feel even more uncomfortable with chills running down their backs.
However, the boy only looked at him for a second and withdrew his eyes when the Vice Dean looked over.
The Vice Dean knew that all such people were vain and were too scared to glance at him after a single glance from him, and inwardly despised them even more.
He reached for the medical test sheet and glanced at the rare type displayed on it, thinking to himself.
This man is only somewhat useful physically.
Extracting his blood is the only contribution he can make to the society.
“Xiao Zhang.”
The Vice Dean called out.
“Are the papers ready? Let’s start.”
One of the nurses placed the required certificate on the table, while another nurse took an alcohol swab and prepared to sterilize the boy.
In fact, someone else originally wanted to come forward to help roll up his cuffs, but was coldly avoided by the boy, so he had to awkwardly stand aside.
But when the boy rolled up his sleeves, revealing his pale arm, the few nurses present all sucked in a breath of air.
“Oh my god ……”
The Vice Dean heard their exclamations and frowned, “What’s all this noise about?”
He had just taken the needle in his hand and looked up to see it, but froze the second he saw it.
“What is this?”
The boy’s arm was covered in deep and shallow purple as well as reddish-brown bruises, which were quite shocking to see.
The Vice Dean’s movements with the needle paused, and in the next second, he heard a stern voice.
“Stop!”
The people present looked up in bewilderment, only to see that several uniformed police officers had entered the hospital at some point, and were staring at the Vice Dean’s movements in unison and warily.
“We received a report that someone here is suspected of forcing blood donations over a long period of time,” the Police Officer in the lead said, “Please cooperate with our investigation.”
The Vice Dean froze and blurted out, “Impossible!”
Several police officers didn’t say anything and swept a glance at the blood collection needle he was holding in his hand.
The needle was long and thick, and the tip of the needle was glowing with a cold light, becoming especially conspicuous.
“No …… this is not what you see!” The Vice Dean was busy putting the needle down as he said, “We’re just running a normal lab test here!”
Finally a policeman couldn’t help but speak up, “Blood collection for a lab test needs to be carried in such a large bag?”
“This Police Officer, you are wrong, what’s wrong with using a bag?”
The Vice Dean gradually stabilized his mind and spoke more and more aggressively.
“We are acting in a responsible attitude towards the patient, using a sufficient amount of samples to measure an accurate result, what’s wrong with that, is there anything wrong with that?”
The policeman still wanted to speak, but was stopped by the Police Officer in charge.
The Vice Dean saw this and became more and more aggressive with his justification.
“Arresting criminals is your police’s business, seeing patients is our doctor’s business, our jobs can’t be messed up, right, getting you, police officers to see the patients, can you do it?”
Both the sides were confronting each other when another commotion came from not far away.
“What’s going on here, what happened?”
It was the Dean and the others who were visiting upstairs with their people, who, hearing the noise, walked down together.
Seeing the police, the dean and the others also froze for a moment.
As the Vice Dean continued saying, “They said that the hospital is suspected of forced donations, isn’t that a no-brainer!”
The Dean also wrinkled his eyebrows, looked the policemen up and down, and said.
“Comrade Police Officers, is the information you received verified, you wouldn’t have come here without confirming it, right?”
“Look, we’re still receiving guests here, with you guys barging in like this, how much damage will this cost to our reputation!”
The Dean said, and smiled again towards the in-charge of the Shimei Company, indicating that absolutely none of it was true.
He was able to quickly change his face while facing different people, but in his heart, he was also harboring anger.
The police in this small place just don’t do their job well!
Before even verifying the truth, they already came here, making such a huge noise. This group of people are simply nothing good, not only do they not tell the hospital in advance or give them a tip regarding such information, but also dare to directly barge inside.
But the Dean was also an old player, his face was still smiling.
“Our Dexin is a national chain of well-known hospitals, headquarters situated in the capital city of Yancheng, with more than a dozen branch hospitals, and which hospital is not a local taxpayers? You police comrades, don’t just simply mess around.”
He said this with a smile, but the warning within was extraordinarily strong.
Just these people, how dare they cause Dexin to lose face?
Those policemen glanced at each other, and indeed did not continue to pick up the previous conversation.
The Vice President saw the situation, and his ego flaredbup even more.
“This is a false report, someone wants to intentionally plant evidence against us, and you guys, you didn’t even check the facts, and almost caused us to suffer a huge loss!”
The Vice Dean picked up the just-opened certificate sheet and flung it, the thick paper making a loud sound in the air.
“We check the certificates every time, these sheets are the proof, there are our Dexin’s special anti-counterfeiting dark patterns on them, it’s impossible to fake them even if you want to.”
He nodded at the dark pattern on the paper and glanced meaningfully at the boy standing in silence.
“Saying that we forced donations, can you get written proofs? Do you have it? There isn’t, is there ……”
The Vice Dean was going all out when he suddenly heard a low, cold voice.
“There is.”
The boy’s voice was not high, but it was that single word that attracted everyone’s attention.
Then they saw him take out a bunch of papers from his coat pocket, this time the paper making a soft sound.
It was exactly the same motion as when the Vice Dean had just flung the paper.
The slips of paper were placed on the table, and the boy casually took another compact money checking light pen and flipped the switch on. 4No idea where he got this pen from.
In full view of everyone, the violet light reflected the pattern on the note.
It was exactly the same as the special dark pattern that the Vice Dean had just flaunted.
There was silence all around for a split second.
The gazes of the crowd towards the Vice Dean and the Dean suddenly become somewhat odd.
The Vice Dean, however, could no longer care at all about the eyes that looked at him like a fool, as he looked incredulously at the boy and pointed at the other party.
“Impossible! This is definitely something that you forged!”
He was about to grab the paper in the boy’s hand in anger, but was directly stopped by the police.
“Forged what? You just said it’s impossible to forge!”
The police scolded, and the Captain had already taken the paper and started to look through it.
There were two policemen guarding the boy left and right to prevent him from being hurt by others, the boy’s cuffs were rolled back up, and a female police officer directly exclaimed in shock.
“Oh My God ……”
The boy’s arm was exposed to the public’s view, and the scarlet bruises on them were unusually conspicuous.
The most frightening thing was that there was more than one of that bruise.
Everyone couldn’t help but be stunned by it.
“This… how is this… so serious?”
“Because these blood collections have been done consecutively, with an interval of not even a month.”
